As a side note I wanted to ask this while the subject is still up, with the MA issue, does anyone know what way we will be using to edit, will it be akin to the base editor or something similar?, I only ask this as I have a good grasp on the game but I know there are many many players out there who have a higher related knowledge on the subject than myself.
I know the majority of it will be speculation but would be nice to know if it is related to the base editor style or not. -
I wouldnt be able to say on which side of the pond is more susceptable to the ol' ignore function as I havnt perused the US side as yet, but from my own experience (and as I have stated previously im waaay to optimistic with people) I will only use the ignore function as a supreme last measure.
My main reason for this is twofold, firstly I would rather hope that if it is a pester/constant insult I would prefer to try and reason with the perseon, let them know this isnt that kind of community etc etc..and secondly because im really not going to take an insult in-game as a personal slant to myself...there are times when you have to step back and separate the fact you are interacting via a screen/keyboard and a lot of cables
I just think the whole thing comes down to personal reasoning, and how short your fuse is
(edit, anyone know if I can get a RL ignore function to deal with the missus' nagging?)

Very true Shadowe, I was one of the original posters in this thread who did say that I was unhappy with the possibility of it being stand alone, even though from a personal point of view MA will keep me happier than a pig you-know-what for months on end.
Although in all honesty I was one of the peeps who took his quote as a definate finality, not even stopping to re read it ...
So considering MA was penned in for i13 originally, and they dropped it to add certain aspects the player base weere asking for showed a great response on the devs behalf.
I would however have replied saying how I misread but then the pyramid of doom erupted and I gave up
But to echo your sentiments, in all honesty I would - like yourself be dismayed if that was the only thing, but seeing as how issues change even in the open beta (see the roll back on APP/PPP additional powers for that) nothing is ever final so I think I will stop getting twitchy and adopt the old tried and tested "sit on my hands and wait" approach -

IMO, the only TFs that dont work are Positron and Synapse. (and Citadel a bit, but least it can be done relatively fast)
Positron because it's long, boring and stupidly hard with an inexperienced team as has been said above. The bad thing is, the TF isnt hard as in challenging. It's hard as in annoying.
Synapse because it's just boring and can take quite long. It isnt annoying though.
And Citadel, very easy TF but it's also very dull because it's basically the same mish over and over and over again. Defeat council in cave bunker. 100 times over. Blah.
[/ QUOTE ]
Any of the Shard TFs work?
I mean they're long and boring but do they give bang for buck?
[/ QUOTE ]
They are fun if you can get past the mind numbing hunts at the start, I for one like the SS enemies and the SS itself is a nice zone, but the fact that if you dont have fly the zone is a nightmare to traverse leading to multiple rezoning back to FB Zulu
Thank god however for the fact that next issue they are adding a temp jetpack to be available for purchase in the zone
But when it comes to the end fights I found the bosses are quite cool, sarah Moores is one of the silly long ones but the last mission has a great atmosphere, you find yourself running through a seemingly endless cavern where the mist is so thick you cant see the walls either side and so many times you find yourself blundering into giant mobs of overseers, a great end to what is otherwise a diabolically long TF -
I think the issue here is down to one thing, regardless of the fact that there have - in the past - been issues that pertained to one area of the game alone the simple fact remains, this game, as I said earlier, is made of a wide player base so even though people like myself are excited about i14 and the content it brings there must be however something no matter how minute, to appease the other player aspects.
Now I know that there will never be full satisfaction across the board regarding issues/content etc...there never is but to focus on one area and assuming everyone will love it seems a little short sighted.
As I stated I for one am excited and will make full use of the issue but I do feel for those who do not wish to and will have to wait for another 3-6 months for something to look forwards to... -

Not from the description you gave:[ QUOTE ]
Red names have admitted it could use a look at (it's actually two TFs they welded together when they found the early game's mission system couldn't support follow-on TFs), but as with many things it's a question of finding the time.
[/ QUOTE ]
A beginning TF should not be double length and (from what I remember from previous discussions) boring as a week in Cleethorpes in January.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey I object to that! Cleethorpes is a fun place to go in....omg what am I saying?? no your right
Seriously though I do believe that although I wouldnt like to see Posi being scrapped, some kind of amendment to it would be good as that TF fills me with dread every time I go for the TFC badge - but tbh thats mainly due to the fact I end up running with a 50 that when I lose all my powers I end up crying like baby
But on an objective note with the new merit system tf's such as posi and the sstf's will be more susceptable to runs over the usual eden/katie/itf ...swings and roundabouts I suppose. -

That is cracking - literally laughed out loud (and got funny looks from my co workers), never heard of that before (praise google), but now that tale completely overshadows anything that we ever found funny, damn Eric and his gazebo -
Ever had one of those RP moments that made you laugh out loud...cringe at your own ineptitude...or just end up becoming legendary as one of those "remember when?...."
Although im very much unknown in paragon id like to start the ball rolling with some non CoX related moments from my days at the nationals/deadlands etc though it would be interesting to see what epic moments have happened over the years
(from deadlands)
In the middle of the plains of Texas, there's a little farm. The posse have come here to rest for the night. They've been given food, shelter, warmth and hospitality. There is nothing wrong, no signs on the wind, no evil lurking.
Dashwood : "This feels wrong, let's kill them all"
Jack : "What about the priest? He won't like us doing that"
Dashwood : "We'll just have to knock him out first and blame the farmer"
Deep in the dungeon, they're stranded without weapons. Over the course of 5 hours they've managed to gain posession of one pistol and a halberd. The last thing they killed drops a sword.
Dashwood : "I'm taking the sword"
Hartford : "No, I killed the thing, I get the sword"
Dashwood : "You've got the gun"
Hartford : "With only two bullets!"
Dashwood : "It's still a gun"
Hartford : "You've got the halberd"
Dashwood : "And I'm taking the sword"
Hartford : "No, it's my sword, I claimed it"
Repeat ad nauseam for at least an hour. Then the posse moves on into the next room. Which is the Armoury. With many swords.
Vic : "Go cause a distraction"
Jonah : "OK..."
So Jonah then tromps to the other end of the train.
Jonah : "Everybody put your hands in the air, this is a robbery!"
"You must be the dumbest son of a (bleep) on earth" said Wild Bill Hickok
Rick : "How much is the lady of leisure?"
Jon [GM] : "Ten Dollars"
Rick : "Pricey, I like it. Can I roll for Performin'?"
Jon : "If you must"
Rick : "Woo, 19! Can I get a dollar back?"
And one from another random session between some friends which had me in stitches
Jon : "It's a whirlpool, Gareth"
Gareth : "Yeah, I'm seeing what it does"
Jon : "It's a WHIRLPOOL, Gareth"
Gareth : "Yes, And?.... Oh. I just died"
Jon : "Yes, it's a whirlpool, Gareth"
Anyhoo, you get the idea, as I said im not that known here in paragon on the RP side so id like to see what moments have stuck in your collective minds
(edit - transcripts taken from my old nationals boss' website from the best moments) -

You sure have. If you really can't make a character that isn't uber-to-the-max in some way, shape, or form, then you probably shouldn't be worrying about roleplaying in an environment like GG. It works best when one or two characters can't ruin everyone's plots by one-upping everyone, and we already have enough of those as it is.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree totally..the backstory for war is just that, just some back story, its hard to socialize with a toon that essentially is awaiting his bosses to attempt the end of the world so he can try and stop it, bit of a party pooper imho
Hence why im trying to stick to stryke (my gobby Dr Aeon hating blapper) or Rockcrete (ex malta agent with a penchant for russkie speak and rambling about his war stories - true style war vet with nothing else to do but run his mouth) as they are a little easier to place at GG than a herald of the apocalypse, tho he is available for buisiness functions

The student nationals is always fun too even if our tiny team will never win anything
[/ QUOTE ]
I used to go to the nationals, though my friend runs our team he was petrified when we won and he had to host it
But I have to say the nationals for me are more about the horrendous booze up than the games itself, I cant believe I placed in the "supers" catagory when most of my gaming was spent trying to stop the hangover from exploding my frail and weak mind -

Thanks for the voice of reason FFM, aye london mate I personally am very excited about this but I do see your point, hence the agreement..there needs to be a wider spread across the board for those such as yourself who wont be taking part in the mission creator so that leaves you with six months or more with no new content for yourself, so I am actually on your side -
I agree with the comments on certain characters persona's not befitting certain places such as GG, and therein lies my problem...aside from a few toons such as Rock or my gobby main - Stryke my other toon I spent time on a decent backstory is my all round PvP/badgehunter/TF runner/RP Warscythe but seeing as he is a Herald for the four biblical riders of the apocalypse who has grown a brain and now is following his own unknown agenda with the "alphas2 of paragon, it seems a little...off ..if he is socializing around GG with everyone or grabbing a drink in PD, (why cant i make toons that have less complicated and non orwellian-shakesperian dramatic themes
) so I have made a rod for my own back it seems.
Anyway apologies for derailing this thread
But ty for the comments -

Matt Miller: Mission Architect is a strong enough feature that it can, and should, stand on itÂ’s own for an issue. We are very excited to see what the players come up with!

What a load of [censored], what about the people that aint interested in the mission architect? Of which there are many.
What they skip an issue do they?
Issue 13 unlucky for plenty.
Issue 14 unlucky for the rest.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now whereas I for one am totally stoked about the onset of being able to create my own storylines/arcs etc...especially since they have said you can put in your own created npc's this is looking to be a very good issue, but that isnt the point here, I am referring to londoner and carnies posts which have valid points, there needs to be some additional content to appease the people who will not (by choice) take up the player created mission aspect.
Now I understand the that these issues are given free etc etc but (and I am trying to be objective here) the player base for this game is varied across the board from RP'rs to badgehunters to pvp'rs etc so there needs to be attention to those aspects and not just one.
So even though I agree in extent on Posi's point that the issue is chock full of amazing content (that I for one cannot wait for), it resides around one area of the game that may not appeal to everyone...come on Posi share the love mate -
Going back on topic to the original post, I know im a little slow in replying but ahh well...
I personally find the subject of RP as a hobby not something to feel "ashamed" or "embarrased" about, but then again most of my childhood was spent in drama schools/agencies etc so acting the fool to the public was second nature, then some friends introduced me to RP while i was at uni, surprisingly half of them were my rugby team mates (well 3 of them) one of them a lumbering 6 ft behemoth from the scrum who was surprisingly adept at playing a plethora of wacky characters.
Now this was at first a shock to me but goes to show that the social view of rp'ers are of a geeky group of trenchcoat wearing LARP addicts is way way off, I enjoy RP when I can, and my mates who dont have a laugh about it when we are out at the weekend...and considering half of them chat endlessly on the topics of big brother - xfactor gives me cause to deride them in turn
So no I dont have a problem with RP, and my life suffers not for the admittance of it
On a side note though I must admit that RP in this game is difficult for me to get into, and I mean this in no derisory way to the community, but it seems very closed, and I mean that the RP community know each other inside out and it feels tough for me to get into it (nights at GG / PD etc...) I feel like I am just standing around listening in on convos that are between old old friends and i'd be rude to interrupt ...that is daft I know as in sessions with mates I have no problem with being the git who butts in peoples discussions/actions
Maybe its also to do with the fact that I blend my time in game between being a badge hooer, PVP speccing my scrapper, co running our SG and so when the time comes for me to relax at GG I feel as though I dont belong...so I end up standing around awaiting an opportunity to immerse into the discussions but when the conversations are very closed and on first name terms between friends I feel to be rude to cut in so I end up logging and going to the pub
I hope that no one has taken umbridge to those comments as I am an advocate of the CoX community as a whole I just wanted to add that as an extra to the original topic.
((god my missus is right, I dont half ramble))

Also a feature i would really like to see would be the ability to move the logo around the selected area, this should technically be possible in the current engine although I have no clue to how much work it would need.
For Jacket parts, maybe instead of the small logos you can have on the chest area we could have it on the back a lot bigger?
[/ QUOTE ]
I concur with raven on the workload issue though godknows what i would give for back emblem placing on jackets and such a-la warriors etc, plus the ability to place logos/emblems on your pets would be very welcome....but knowing the extensive work to put these into place I will just wistfully dream of the day I can put a bullseye on the back of my toon and call him Barn Door -
Im not disagreeing with Necro at all, as I stated he has a good base knowledge on the subject and has stated facts regarding the issue rather than just meandering assumptions on implementation ease (which i know is where ravens ire comes from)
And I believe that Raven and others were not disputing the facts ...its only the general argument that some people think everything is easy as hell to put into play which isnt an issue on this thread
So when someone has done some groundwork in research on the subject matter - as the OP clearly has, that is when I stated at the bottom that I wholeheartedly back it/sign it/spank it...whatever -

It seems like a relatively small amount of work for a fairly large outcome

I disagree, on the second part, but there you go.
[ QUOTE ]
But if we don't suggest ideas because they aren't guaranteed to be instantly doable in the engine, this section of the boards would be a bit dull.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't object to suggestions due to them being hard or undoable. I object to people stating that it would be simple when they don't know. Why bother writing it down?
[/ QUOTE ]
Although I agree with the sentiment of raven due to the community in general having assumptions over whether something is easy or not, we however, cannot berate them for lack of knowledge, some people are misinformed yes and it may cause ire to those who have more knowledge in programming/coding etc but this is what it is...a suggestion forum.
Maybe Raven should run a class on how to stop using the term "how hard can it be" im sure he has a small apoplexy every time he reads those words
I mean this in the nicest way btw im not looking to rock the boat
And in reply to the OP (who seems to have a good base knowledge) if...and I say if..it was implementable as I see it could be, yes there would be man hours involved... and with them working on i13/14 I wouldnt expect any kind of implementation until after but as it stands I would support this wholeheartedly
But then again I am by choice a cossie hooer -

Heh sliding slightly off topic from the OP but in the same area as this ^ ...was not too long ago when myself, some sg buddies, Dusty and Tsumi were on an LGTF when lo and behold, after months of blissfully quiet emails, got a tell from a toon very stupidly calling himself Ga Gora (oh you know where this is going) doing the usual sales spin of RL money for inf .... I truly despise these methods and feel sorry for those who get suckered into the scam.
As i previously posted I like to see myself as an optimist when it comes to people but it saddens me that people still try and lure the more gullible of us into these cons, all I can say is thank god for /ignore -
In general I like to think of myself as an optimist, when it comes to people especially in this game over other well known mmo's as I have always been a staunch supporter of the amazing community we have overall, but there are occasions when I bang my head on the keyboard in frustration, and nine times out of ten its two areas;
PvP players...while on the whole here are a freindly bunch... a little competitive yes but still nice chaps - though there are occasions where the atmosphere in a pvp zone can collapse into a midless frenzy of abuse, my best advice to folks in these situations is just to stop replying, the more you react to peoples bait the worse it can get.
Farmers, again mostly a friendly bunch and while not my cup of tea - each to their own on how to play the game but i do object to the fact that if I reply politely to a blind inv or a tell saying "fill now" etc, I occasionally get multiple abusive replies such as "ill remember next time you selfish (delete expletive)" or "f*** you then".
Now while on the whole these are incredibly rare I feel the need to point out that these stand out, and in a strange way that is a good thing....
For if I couldnt recall certain situations such as these it would mean they are a regular occurance, which thankfully due to the mass community being accomodating and friendly, its the reason im still here... -
Giant amorphous blob threatens the safety of paragon?? not on my watch sunshine, you have the services of my two mains Zero - Warscythe or Stryke, many more but these two are the best options.
Send me a pm in game bud lemme know what you need, i can run a full team tbh, theres most of my sg that will be up for this so just keep me updated. -
Heh dont worry about you "causing" me to get moaned at, its something i do every day, im becoming a master at the art of slacking, but i read it last night and have to say its an enjoyable read, yes in parts its description heavy and this is by no means a knockdown just a constructive criticism, however i do lean towards enjoying more heavy reading, i despise some "famous" writers who seem to feel that by thinning out the narrative will be more accomodating, its nice to get lost in someones view of a world they have created.
So in all im not going to nitpick something i found enjoyable on the whole, and besides Leigh covered most points i would have mentioned....just keep up the good work Abz, looking forwards to more installments -

Was chatting with Damz in Atlas after a particuliarly good session of Zombie Gutting and the topic of this thread came up! In passing conversation we likened having these "Signature characters" of Union in a story arc together, kind of like a player made freedom phalanx...
was wondering if we could get something together story wise for mission architect, for submission as a group perhaps?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well id be up for helping with this, not that i compare myself to the freedom phalanx, i wouldnt lower myself to their level(egotistical ...me?...never)
But seriously if Tsumi/Damz require any assistance rallying these peeps together or putting some kind of plan into place then ill be willing to help (for a fee of course)
This is a good idea though, since the people mentioned have a wealth of experience/knowledge from all the different aspects the game offers
