Probably the character I've set to +0/x8 the earlier is my Katana/Willpower Scrapper. I did so with her sometime in the mid 20's after leaving Praetoria. Divine Avalanche, stacked twice, helps very much with that.
My SS/Fire Brute, though she required a macro to fuel her constant need for a blue bar, pretty much requires far less hopping about, getting things into cones, and going "Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap!" when my defense isn't enough.
For Infernal Infested (said brute), standard procedure is: hop into mob, wait a few seconds, hit Fiery Embrace, hit Burn, kill minions, hit Footstomp, kill Lt's, use KO Blow on whatever is still left standing.
She essentially power-levelled herself to 50 after she got Burn. :P
But at the moment my Kat/Will doesn't even have any IO sets slotted. Though she does have a few of the uniques. And I don't yet have the slots to solve her endurance issues yet. -
Being fond of metal, I tend to give all my villains suitable themes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qCWa_BzBek
The Nothern Kings' cover of Radiohead's "Creep" for the spirit of a weather witch and necromancer possessing a young mage.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qCWa_BzBek
The Prowlers' cover of Ultravox's "The Voice" for a mind-controlling seudctress who had used an artifact to amplify her power to make a country think she was the heir to the throne of the kingdom, and the rightful princess was a rebel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVHawH0V6EQ
Sonata Arctica's "The Boy Who Wanted to Be a Real Puppet" for a warrior so filled with hate and rage that upon his death his spirit enchanted his very armor, and over time that the evil within has grown so strong that a mere splinter of the original suit added to a weapon or armor will animate it. And the overall big-bad of the campaign has taken advantage of this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbwdTtRHQAU
AFI's "Miseria Cantare" as a general theme for the dark cult that all of my 'area boss' type villains are a part of, drawing upon the power of the Goddess of the Void.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlb-0snyWWM
The music box portion of Dir En Grey's "Cage" for the aspect of the child-like Void goddess who is bound by the cult and is unable to control her power.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5DrW...eature=related
"Out of the Fire" by Type O Negative for my fire-themed warpriest.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Wh_WPX3iD4
For the role of "Evil Star God" Tristania's "Wormwood" comes to mind, a bit operatic, a bit orchestal, and very metal. Also has the requisite Ominous Latin Chanting that no true end-boss theme ought to be without.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNtYjTLcmDQ
And of course you can't have an Evil Robot God without me suggesting THE instrumental theme from a movie's Evil Robot God. Vince DiCola's "Unicron Medley" from Transformers: the Movie, the animated one from the 80's. -
I'm kind of curious what's going to go on with the server list merger. I have a friend who let a 5 year account on the EU servers lapse and get a new one on the NA side of things because all his friends played there.
He'd like to get his vet rewards and old characters back, but he's got a pile of new characters, some level pacted, as well as the Going Rogue expansion on his NA account also.
Though I know that there is more info coming on Monday/Tuesday, he and I would really like to know if something can be done about the situation. -
Saving up 30 Alignment Merits for a Gladiator proc seems silly, especially when you have Luck of the Gamble +7.5% Globals going for 200-250 million. You could get 15 of those for the cost of one Gladiator Defense.
-
I have a Widow/Fortunata, though she doesn't start out as non-human. With each costume slot I unlock for her, though, she seems to keep becoming more and more undead. At the moment she's got a very Ghost Widow-y look to her.
Odds are I'll be picking up a stealth proc to put in Sprint to give her the transparency to complete her journey into undeath. -
That's correct. They only have the patron powers open to them.
-
I think it adds an extra 35-45% worth of fire damage in the form of a proc-like effect to every primary and secondary damage dealing attack.
-
Probably my 'brightest' colored character
Pondering the meaning of naturally garish! And also sporting a Decepticon approved color scheme.
Not my own character, but just about the most hideous, brightly colored, garish costume I'd ever seen in CoV to that point. So I just HAD to take a photo to remember the moment.

Quote:Someplace to dump the several billion INF I have piling up, that's what. What is the end goal for the duo? I love my sets as much as the next Mids fan but Pyro is right ... with perma Soul Drain, perma Ice Storm(s) and a Blizzard every 45 seconds or so even without sets (at least at level 50 and with the Incarnate boost) what is the duo gaining for the expense of set IO's?
-
Urf. The NCSoft launcher has, three times, completely and utterly failed to update my CoH beta folder. It found Beta and Test okay, but then started to download the entire installs over again. And again. And again.
Every time my internet connection hiccups, the NC Launcher starts the downloads over again.
I went to bed, having it downloading the Beta, woke up and used the restroom, checked on it to see that the download had only 2 hours left (of the original 14), and went back to bed.
Upon awakening the Beta had NOT been installed, and was about 10 percent of the way through downloading the 4.3ish gigs worth of files. Again.
It doesn't seem to ever want to resume downloads, or retain its progress. -
Quote:Cheapening up the build does essentially nothing but take away from an end goal for the duo. :PI waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheapened up the build, and you still have everything perma that needs to be perma (hasten, AB, auras alternating) and capped defense and capped acc on +4s. The only set bonuses you would want are a few small recharges to push hasten into perma recharge levels, and it just takes 2 cheap sets. And a KB IO will cover mezz protection completely.
-
A friend and I are thinking of trying out a pair of matched Empathy/Ice defenders, for the most part due to the general broken-ness of Adrenalin Boost on one another at 32 making Perma-AB and Permahasten essentially there right out of the box.
And with Weave, Maneuvers, Combat Jumping, and Fortitude on one another, defenses are close to being soft capped. I probably made a few errors in slotting things, since I think that a few sets are needed to properly poke them over onto the soft cap.
I saw a mention somewhere that the sheer amount of +Recovery that this has means that it can overcome Blizzard's crash? Is that possible?
I have one slot left over because I didn't pay attention to the slot levels, I just stuck 'em in there until I had what looked like a goodly number of slots.
I just slotted for +rech in most things because I honestly couldn't think of anything that I ought to be slotting for. Just to make the auras, AB, and Soul Drain up more often.
Is there something else I ought to be doing? Anything I included that we really wouldn't need? Anything that we ought to have that I left out?

I was rather surprised last night, as a friend picked up the name Hexmage, and I got Blessed Agonies.

-
Recalling that Rise to the Challenge gives -3.75 % To-Hit, I ditched Hover from the build, since it's melee damage that one usually has to worry about. So I think I'm essentially soft-capped.
I also stuffed the Numina unique into Fast Healing, and the Regenerative Tissue unique into Health rather than the plain IO's.
Am curious if there is anything I'm slotting in a somewhat overkill-ish fashion that I would put a slot elsewhere and help out the build.

A friend has suggested taking Stealth instead of Hover. I've never taken the power and have no idea how much defense it provides, and how much remains when it is not active. Could it be used as a replacement for Hover to nudge me over into softcap territory?
-
Oh, I know you're not attacking it. I'm just pointing out that I can't thing of any pure Ranged/AoE smashing, and I'm used to having to a big gaping weakness to Psionics. Sorry if I came off as combatative.
-
I don't really build with anything resembling an optimum attack chain in mind. I just fire off what's up depending on the situation.
Problem with losing Char/Hover in favor of Physical Perfection/Focused accuracy is that I also lose out on the 2.5% Energy/Negative defense with the Basalisk set.
Smashing isn't a big concern, as best I can recall there are few, if any Ranged/AoE sources of Smashing damage. Most if it is going to be Melee, which is quite readily handled, as it's always paired up with Smashing/Lethal. So I have that capped already. And any Ranged smashing is going to typically be paired up with Energy.
Yes, Psionic is a bit of a hole. But 25% defense and 33% resistance to it is a heck of a lot better than the exactly nil that I have with my /Fire Brute and her Healing Flames. It's not like I'm going to head into PvP where I'll be butting up against potentially pure sources of Psi damage.
Main thing to watch out for are Carnival and Rikti bosses, which I do anyway.
The main source of -To-Hit that I know of are CoT ghosts and Arachnos Widows, I do believe. Because CoT dwells in hated cave maps, I avoid them while levelling a character. Typically I always have my "Last Chance to Hit" monitored, and it dips below 95 on so few occassions I just pop a Yellow or two.
The only other time it might be a problem is when some boss pops a Tier 9, and typically that's also accompanied by +Res that I'm not going to be able to overpower anyway. So typically I just wait that out since by that time I've usually gotten everything else in the spawn nice and dead.
Char is there to serve solely as a set mule, and for the slots I have, I'm not sure if I can get it back anyplace.
Good catch on the Eradication - Damage, as I think I misclicked there. -
Well, okay, I think I might've gone just a touch over the top. But then again I already have the most expensive pieces of the build sitting around (The LotG Globals Recharges).
I based this off a build Twilight Snow posted in another Kat/Will thread awhile back.
I have no idea how this will play, or if it's even decent and doing much of anything other than soaking up damage and going "Nyah, nyah! Can't hit me!"
I've heard that Katana is supposed to be somewhat decent damagewise and that Willpower is very survivable, made incredibly so with the softcap.
I've been playing my SS/Fire Farming brute for awhile and find myself a touch frustrated at her fragility. If I didn't have RotP on her, she'd be unplayable in PPD/Longbow missions.
I'd really like to ditch hover, since I'm terrible at steering while in flight. But that will take me down below the cap. How much will .3 or .6 below the cap make a difference?

A team of giant monster hunters and myself attempted to spawn Caleb last night. According to the wiki the spawn trigger is defeating 100 spectres during a certain span of the in game day.
So we started ghost hunting when the sun went up in game and continued until the moon was directly overhead. I know for a fact we killed more than 100 of the darned things. I took out at least ten or so of the large spawns that were only the ghosts on Thorn Isle.
But we got nothing. No announcement of his presence, no nothing.
Has anyone else had problems dragging that giant spook out to get his badge? -
I spent all morning hopping around Praetoria to grab the badges on my new badge character (one I can actually stand playing as opposed to my purpled out Spines/Regen who just seems so slow in comparison to my SS/Fire Brute) and managed to pick up everything (River Rat was a pain in the backside, as I ended up doing 3 laps around the three entire zones to try and find the two I was missing, which were the two in Neutropolis that don't have water beneath them). except two badges.
I've figured out that the Failed Experiments only show up in the zone event, or in missions.
But I'm having difficulty finding Seers. I saw two groups of 3 in Imperial City and that was pretty much it. I know they show up individually around Nova Praetoria's starting area, but I bet there is some area I missed where they show up with some regularity. -

Quote:I've had this happen to me two or three times tonight. I'm playing my SS/Fire brute, going along nice and happy, gotten the Longbow horde and the hated Lt's and their -Res grenades dead, and the rest of the mass with their -Def attacks, all I've got is a boss left, and my green bar is nice and happy being full, or close to it and then suddenly...
Longbow Warden pounds you for 343.02 points of smashing damage!
Longbow Warden pounds you for 406.93 points of energy damage!
Longbow Warden devastates you for a whopping 343.02 points of smashing damage.
Longbow Warden devastates you for a whopping 343.02 points of smashing damage.
BANG! I'm dead from full health, or next to it, out of absolutely nowhere.
I've got all my toggles on (with Tough, mind you) and a few Inspirations because I have no defense debuff protection, so I go overboard on munching purple and orange candy.
Are the Energy Melee Longbow Warden bosses supposed to be able to, essentially, one shot a Brute from 99%ish max HP?
