Actually thats not true.
Wolf Spiders use guns for the majority of their powers, Bane and Crab Spiders don't.
We have no idea what happens when branching takes place, do powers simply evolve? Do you have to respec to your new path? Presumably old powers will no longer be available (or not all of them will) Meaning that we have only seen a small fraction of the VEAT powers... -
The problems I have with your build Luke:
The shields are massively overslotted, 4 slots should be enough to pretty much cap the resistance, the rest are just wasted
Disruption Field doesn't need any extra slots, the end you are saving with each endred is tiny compared to if you slotted your attacks more effectively
Stamina really benefits from a performance shifter +end
Clarity doesn't need any extra slots
Sonic Cage isn't really an effective power for PvE. If your team gets in trouble with a sonic def, then its a really bad team
Shockwave, you say its just for force feedback. In order to be effective you need to spam it. If you spam it your team will hate you. Lose it, get Howl instead. Treat Howl as an AOE res debuff.
The epic is obviously a matter of choice but I didn't think that power build up effected the res buffs.
It is possible to get much more recovery through sets, which is what I'd go for. -
Just asking for an IO build isn't really specific enough. Really people want to know what you want out of the build. More damage, more recharge, more health, more recovery, status protection, PVE, PVP, Farming, etc etc. And the other important factor is how much money you are prepared to spend.

As Max said, the self rez in WP is skippable. Out of the other powers the ones that can be delayed the longest are fast healing and Strength of will (in fact if you are going to be duoing with a sonic defender then strength of will wouldn't really be needed except in really dire circumstances.

Depending on the levels of others and team needs I could fetch any of Icetek L35 Ice/Strom Troller, Ice Boxer L34 Ice/EM Tank, Combat Wombat L39 Claws/reg Scrapper.

I learned TP self since lvl14, to master it when i reach Granite. This way you can focus on other set bonus's such as recovery, regen but more important recharge.
Outside that, even with a non-granite build, i would still take the power, if its only for a panic button. (Try battlemaiden without a backup from the team with that set).

The reason I have never had a stone tank is because of easy mode granite tanking. however I've decided to make a stone/axe tank without the use of granite. Just would like thoughts/experiences etc of anyone else who has tried/thought about trying/thinks I am mad etc. Advice welcome as I don't really know either set that well.

thats nigh on identical to my original BS/SR build Cynic, except I used Gift of The Ancients in the Autos instead of Serendipitys, I am also toying with going travel powerless on mine though.

I find an Achilles Heel chance for -res works nicely in slash.

Stone melee is very end heavy, Fiery Aura is very end heavy, if you can get over those 2 hurdles it should work well together as fire needs some extra mitigation.
important points with fire are Healing flames needs to be taken and slotted asap, and you have no kb or immob protection, the jumping set can provide the answer for both of these (acrobatics and combat jumping). -
For much less inf you could have something along these lines
(those sets giving hp pluses are pretty pointless on a tank with dull pain)
