You just got yourself some positive Rep, Wuigly Squigly!

Something else to keep in mind, I think, is the matter of themes and the expectations of other players. While I know a lot of people call this nonsense or an imaginary issue, it _does_ affect other players. We already have numerous players telling others "You're doing it wrong" for chosing to play their characters in particular ways. And No. It isn't as simple as just ignoring such people, for numerous reasons both social and personal (although the latter clearly depends on the individual).
City of Heroes / City of Villains uses Archetypes. They have roles. There isnt a rule saying you need to play within that role, but the Archetypes are designed towards fulfilling those roles.
For example: While I will agree that the current change to Vigilance is the wrong way to go, I think our reasons for stating that differ, Strato. I think increasing the Damage of the Defender is giving the wrong message. "Damage is the only viable option. Everything needs to be about Damage."
The Defender Archetype offers some extremely varied Powers in their Primaries, some of which are damage dealers, but most of which are not. I believe that even while solo, a Defender can rely on their Primary Powers to help them significantly. Certainly some are team- or ally-only, but in my experience Ive gotten further as Defenders thanks to Buffs, Debuffs, and Heals while solo than I do as a Blaster with all their potent Damage, or even Corruptors. Clearly, others mileage varies, significantly.
While the entire Issue 17 edition of Vigilance situation seems to present evidence to the contrary (which has kept me rather baffled with Castle's change since Closed Beta), the Devs also have to 'balance' the game while keeping themes in mind. Why don't we see Defenders getting their Damage Modifier raised? Well, I'd like to think it's because the Devs are trying to keep Defenders true to their theme. It probably doesn't factor in as much as I hope it would, but it is something else that I'm sure the Devs contemplate before making changes. -
Ends at 10pm EST? Looks like I'll be able to squeeze in a half hour, after work. Damn this society and the requirement of having money to legally purchase food and shelter! Oh, and a computer and internet, since those are clearly necessities too.
Happy Seven Minus Oneth birthday, City of Heroes!
Oh, and that banner image? I got two of my characters in it, heh. Granted, only their heads are visible, due to the text covering most of them up. Felt good being a part of that, even if it was a little bit of a fuster cluck with how many times players were specifically told that performing certain emotes were not acceptable. -
Sockpuppet - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sockpuppet_(Internet)
A sockpuppet is an online identity used for purposes of deception within an online community. In its earliest usage, a sockpuppet was a false identity through which a member of an Internet community speaks with or about himself or herself, pretending to be a different person, like a ventriloquist manipulating a hand puppet.
The poster before you is a sockpuppet, but whose? Make you accusation and present your reasons!
No ill-will intended, this is just meant to be a silly little game. If you actually have proof that someone is using a "sockpuppet," you may wish to direct the attention of a forum moderator to said user(s).
So, to start us off, based on a recent exchange ( http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...32#post2812232 ):
Arcanaville is Castle's sockpuppet! -
I don't know, David Nakayama. Maybe you should set someone aside right now and have them start work on Huge Females for some future date. An hour or two a day from their regular schedule, if that's do-able. It would take a long time, sure, but at least it would be getting done. Also, all future costume content could be made with the Huge Female model in mind, so that one diligent worker wouldn't have to recreate those pieces when they got around to them.
Is that not feasible? Still not considered worthwhile? -
Are the representations of the Banished Pantheon Deities in the City of Heroes Comic series accurate to the game canon?
Additionally, if at all possible (in private or public) could you please let me know how accurate my educated guesses on their powers are?
Lughebu - Illusion Control to represent his cunning and controlling nature.
Ninjitsu for Hide, Blinding Powder, Smoke Flash, and the improved survival (not to meantion that Assassin Strike Criticals from Blind and Spectral Wounds are DEADLY!).
I would also like to give him Teleport.
Ullutay - Plant Control (although I'd like to restyle it all as Bones and goop, instead of vines and leaves).
Mental Manipulation to represent his deception and give him access to World of Confusion.
Tomdala - Gravity Control (although I'd like to alter it so instead of propelling random objects, he propels /himself/, and make all his abilities melee-range).
Willpower chosen since it seemed to offer the best protection against Psionics, seeing as Sister Psyche's blast didn't really do much to him in the comic.
M'Teru - Sword (although it should be a spear).
Super Strength. I was going for an all-out raging monster in this case, and wanted to give him suitably monstrous damage output.
Rambetu - Electric Melee (although I'd want to use Claws and give them an Energy damage type along with the Lethal, and add Endurance Drain).
Super Reflexes as she appears to be quite agile and fast.
She also has Flight.
I also had an idea for a special gimmick for each of the Deities which would make them considerably more challenging. But why spoil the surprise in the public? If you do send me a private message, Manticore, I'd be happy to reply with this proposal.
Thanks for this opportunity! Great threads so far! -

Daemodand is a precog! FLEE! -

Oh thank you!!!
. . . well, for the first half, at least. Hmm . . . -
Steelclaw has finally earned those thread tags* in my eyes with:
"Q: So the marketing department is satisfied to just sit around in the dark rather than shed some light on things?
"A: How did you get hold of our marketing strategy?!"
* except the Lughebu one. -
Congratulations and all the best!
Hope your future endeavours are rewarding ones! -
I'm all for more Natural options in power sets. Corruptors also need some other sort of Natural-appropriate secondary set, but for now:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=209585
That thread has some other suggestions on the Self Defense/Martial Manipulation.
Another alternative name could be something Teakwondo (maybe not technically accurate, as some players want Martial Arts' powers accurately named and animated, but has a little more pizzazz to it than 'Self Defense' or 'Martial Manipulation'). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taekwondo
As for Build Up and Focus Chi? Ya, 99% sure they're the same thing in all ways except name and visual effects. -
Please excuse the boring names.
Defensive Kick 1 Melee, Minor DMG(Smash), Foe Knockback
Crippling Axe Kick 2 Melee, Moderate DMG(Smash), Foe Immobilize, -SPD, -Fly
Focus Chi 4 Self +DMG, +To-Hit
Smoke Grenade 10 Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe -Perception, -To-Hit
Focus Spirit 16 Self End Discount
Cobra Strike 20 Melee, Minor DMG(Smash), Foe Disorient
Dragon's Tail 28 PBAoE, Moderate DMG(Smash), Foe Knockdown
Eagle's Claw 35 Melee, Superior DMG(Smash), Foe Disorient, +Special
Hundred Palms/Defensive Dance 38 PBAoE, Moderate DMG(Smash), Foe Disorient, Self +DEF(ALL)
The first power would be a weak version of Crane Kick, simulating Power Thrust.
Crippling Axe Kick would be offered early, although that doesn't really address the range concern.
Focus Chi would also be offered early simply as personal preference.
Smoke Grenade might be a little out of place thematically, and it might also be inappropriate with the Tier 9 power.
Focus Spirit would just be a renamed Conserve Power.
Cobra Strike is awesome. Compared to Stun, though, it might animate to quickly.
Dragon Tail to provide a little PBAoE damage, and also some mitigation in the form of Knockdown. Maybe it could be renamed and changed to Knockback.
Eagle's Claw should probably be renamed, but functionally it would work much like Total Focus.
Hundred Palms is inspired by Hail of Bullets. Something dramatic and fast, lots of footwork and palms to chins. Essentially Cobra Strike + Hail of Bullets. The Defense bonus would only last for as long as the animation runs. -
69 months on main account,
66 months on second account,
48 months on third and fourth accounts,
24 months on fifth account,
12 months on three or four more accounts for other players,
2 Pre-Order box sets of City of Villains,
7 Good Versus Evil Packs,
4 or 5 Wedding packs,
4 or 5 Cyborg packs,
4 or 5 Magic packs,
2 or 3 Mac/Architect Edition packs,
1 Science! pack,
and at least one Going Rogue Pre-Order as soon as I can.
All values are approximates, but close.
I may have forgotten purchases (original post I had forgotten the Good Versus Evil pack).
Someone want to crunch the numbers for me? -
Ah yes, Samuel. King's Row was the place. I remember the first time I saw Rogue Robots, Devouring Earth, Sky Raiders, and Nemesis enemies: All happened in that zone where there were no stores. Heh, and when the rescued civilians would run in that endless loop trying to get in to the sewer door near the Tram.
Coming to King's Row now . . . it's strange. It still looks the same, mostly, but it feels so different. King's Row was a magical place when I first started playing. The kind of magic that nothing else has come close to capturing again. -
Instead of starting another new one of these threads, I thought I'd take a look down Memory Lane. With Feature Update Issue 17 just around the corner and offering some changes such as Epic Archetypes at level 20, and Going Rogue coming Soon, it was hard for me not to reminisce.
I remember the good old days when Devouring Earth Eminators had no expiry. You could fly around Terra Volta Island in Independence Port or around east edge of the Talos Island zone and see gardens of glowing, pulsing trees, mushrooms, crystals, and stones. -
Oh craban! How we miss thee!
. . .
um . . .
. . . anyone got craban's email, by chance? -
As it's been said again and again in this thread, I just have to agree:
Reaching level 50 doesn't take hard work, just time and/or friends. I have multiple accounts, and over 100 characters on just one server. I like making new characters. That's fun for me. This change means more fun for me, and that makes me happy.
I always felt that Epic Archetypes should be unlocked by completing a Strike/Task Force.
ie: You break a non-descript (insert:Archetype_name_here) out of (insert:complex_prison-type_enemy-filled_base_here) and as a reward, you get the option to play as that Archetype.
To add to the whole "rewards for hard work" thing, they could even potentially make said Task/Strike Force solo-only. -
http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/new...and_going.html
I was reading along, hum tee tum . . . until . . .
"Epic Archetypes now available at level 20"
. . .
My jaw dropped.
THANK YOU! Oh, how I've waited for (something like) this! Coming up to six years I've had an account, and the only place I got to try Epic Archetypes were on the Test Server with the help of a level 50 bump.
I am immensely pleased with this announcement. -
Ahem. Well then! I see this place, though clearly buried under some Rubble is still in existence. Perhaps we can dust it off, add a few sprinklers, and throw a party?

I need that Accolade on my secondary main villain. -

JENKINS HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED!
You see? His grave has been blasted open and it's empty (except for a curiously large number of pickles). Put up the "Have you seen this villain" posters! Get his photo on milk cartons! We must locate our "beloved" punching bag! -
* sits down at the table *
Who would like to say "Grace"?
