  1. You know, I gave it some thought, and really . . . what is evil?

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"
"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

    THAT.

The belief that one _knows_, and is therefore beyond reproach. And really, that's probably the line that I can't cross. Ergo, at this point in time, I can't think of any of my characters which cross that line either.
Even my main villainess, who is much like "Liz Bathory" (without the arcane angle) . . . even she is prepared to admit to being wrong. She doesn't like it, and it wounds her pride, and when her pride is wounded . . . people die; gruesomely, painfully, and offensively . . .
But she isn't so evil as to think herself beyond reproach.
  2. As someone who had 9 accounts at my worst, and am still at 5 right now, with over 170 characters on one server, with my highest hero and villain each at Level 44, all I have to say is:

    Have fun.

Ok, maybe I should say a little more. But really, that _is_ what is important here. If you enjoy playing new characters, don't hate yourself for it.

If you want to reach 50, well . . . first ask yourself a very important question: Why?
Is your reason a logical, personal, or emotional reason? Those would all be valid.
Are you being pressured by your peers? That isn't so valid. I mean, unless you play for THEIR enjoyment, and not your own.
Do you want an e-peen? . . . well, I don't want to force my morals on you, but I don't see that as valid reasoning. Besides, if that's really what's important to you, I think you should argue that your e-peen size is related to your total net levels gained, or total experience points, or something like that. "Win" the game by your own standards.
Is there a game content/mechanics reason? No valid at all. Join the war against flawed game design! Encourage the Devs to create content which can appeal to ALL players.

So, if we've come to establish that reaching 50 is, indeed, important to you:

    . . .

Well, um, you know, I think others have posted plenty of suggestions and whatnot.
    I suppose I could add: Find yourself a sugardaddy/mommy.
  3. Of my eighty-eight (approximate value) Villains on the Pinnacle server (of which I attempt to play at least semi-regularly), their "evil" varies quite a lot.
At worst, I have a character or two that wants to destroy/consume the entire universe. At "worst"/"best" (depending on your point of view), I have characters that have been coersed or otherwise forced in to 'villainy' . . .

The vast majority of my villain characters, though, would probably average out on the "rogue" end, at least from their own point of view. Some people, with narrower senses of morality may see that average as being further along the 'dark side' than reasonably understandable.

I usually see these kinds of thread as exercises in futility. A better question would be: "Can you define 'evil'?"

I don't _get_ the singular nature of the original post's questions, either. Are there really that many players who only have a single character?
  4. I got one, in French, on only one of my accounts. Seemed quite odd. I went to check that account, and there was no sign of Aion taint in it.
My original theory was that because the account originated in Quebec, that might explain it . . . but after seeing this thread, well, clearly it's not limited to French speaking communities.
  5. May this, the auspicious date of the anniversary of your birth, bring you m- . . .
Wait a minute. Is that a firefighter helmet?! Putting out flamewars on your birthday? Tsk! Someone else should be doing that.
  6. I shall have 'beat' the game the moment I am lead designer! Muwha-ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
  7. Lore-related questions? Please: See the Canon Fodder thread. There are a few still sitting in there that have gone unaddressed for quite some time.

Oh, and, of course, welcome aboard! Thanks for the fun content!
  8. I think minago summed up SOME of my feelings rather nicely. If this is meant to be the marketing material for new subscribers, I just have to go back to expressing my feelings that this video gives the impression that the Devs see themselves on the same pitiful par as Champions Online. Like an accomplished thespian comparing themself to an 'actor' in a beer commercial.

And while the (super) lumberjack thing was certainly funny, it seemed . . . off. The lumberjack is certainly interesting for a few reasons, but I don't know if it's necessarily going to appeal to all audiences. Or any audiences except for a couple rather narrowly focussed ones. Sure, if I hadn't heard of City of Heroes before, that would pique my interest . . . but you probably don't want to hear WHY.

Hopefully future videos in the series will offer some variety in character concepts, encouraging more varied creative minds to look in to the game, and also touch upon how much potential there really is to TELL YOUR OWN STORY. Calling it "a comic book that's been put in an MMO" actually seems detrimental to really calling attention to how amazing this game is.
  9. I would recommend making your post in one of the existing threads where the Devs are calling for such feedback.
Such as the "All Things Art" by David Nakayama ( http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219809 )
or Sexy J's costume request thread.
  10. Thanks for the alternative link, Zombie Man.

I mean no offense to Melissa Bianco, but what she says actually rubs me the wrong way a few times. Her opener, and the "next level" bit. I suppose I shan't have anything to complain about, though, if this draws in some good subscribers.
  11. I can't actually watch the video on facebook. I get a security error which closes down my browser. Is it any different from the accidentally leaked video?
  12. You didn't go all the way, did you? All of those end up just being mistakes. He literally FELL in to those so-called "plots" on more than one occasion . . . such as that time he fell in to the vat of Super Serum 23Xty-X!
Yes, I realize that a lot of the subtext insinuates that he had some sort of master plan, but the game-wide event that the Devs ran when they finally shut down the servers for CoX15 put all the theories to bed once and for all.

And don't even bring up CoX16! That's already been officially retcon'd from the canon. None of it happened. War Witch Junior made it abundantly clear in 2103 that whichever infinite number of monkeys they had hacking away on those infinite number of typewriters were properly euthanised before they could revolt and become the dominant species in the Mars colony.
  13. Look, it doesn't count as a plot when he bumbled in to them like an idiot. Plotting requires careful planning . . . or at least planning which is THOUGHT to be careful. Jenkins is as careful as . . . well, do I REALLY have to finish that analogy? Do I?!
  14. Ah, well, I would be quite happy if you went ahead and compiled that lore data and posted it in each of the pages. There's nothing saying that's not the way this Wiki's meant to be. It's just that the primary contributers haven't bothered.
Have at it! You're got my (emotional) support, Durak!
  15. WHICH Wiki are you looking at? The Wikia one is actually old and wrong, and their advertisements can even pose a security risk.
If you mean the CoHTitan, then I believe you may be interested in their sister-site, Ouroboros Portal.
  16. *bursts in to flames of horrid agony at LiquidX's words*
  17. Well, "famous mainstream" game is debatable, I'm afraid. I'm pretty sure HoM&M:III was a bigger, more mainstream hit. They're both certainly good games, but HoM&M:V was marred horribly by its coding. Suppose that's to be expected when you have a group of coders who are fluent in one language, writing code in a language which uses syntax from a different language.

As for the presumed raciness of the content in that game, you have to keep in mind which country the game was created, and the cultural norms there. I personally find it quite refreshing, and the flak it garnered was undue. In fact, I wish more studios (especially mainstream ones) would consider subdued content like that. The female heroes for the Haven race, for instance, were quite conservative in their garm, as would be appropriate.

Aaaaaaaand, as for the actual topic of discussion here: Better digitigrade legs would be nice, though personally not a huge priority for my gaming experience. I'd sooner like a little more variety in the mundane "costume" pieces prior to fixing up one of the most exotic pieces.
  18. Well, in the conservatives' favour, she WAS fully clothed. I've seen racier things happen on the street outside my apartment. Then again, I do live just down the block from the largest conglomerate of bars in my city . . .

And why isn't anyone objecting to the bar room brawl? I mean, a little sexual innuendo is something to get all up in arms over, but full on life-threatening violence isn't? Priorities, people!
  19. Yes, despite having what is likely the _exact same genetic code_, and therefore resulting in just as much as the same illegality of . . . "certain activities" from a biological standpoint . . . Statesmans isn't "related" to Dominatrix. Oh no. Not related to her, not any more than he's related to Primal Libby, at least.

    ROLEPLAY / GROUP COALITION
    TPI (Pinnacle)
    - A series of thematically defined Villain and Hero Groups on the Pinnacle Shard. Seven for each faction, each with an in-character rival Group. Predominantly GLBTTQQI-friendly.

    TPI Groups include:
    Red-side:
a militaristic mercenary group (extremist neutral/evil),
    Evil Masterminds (campy evil),
    Killer Pussykats (catboi/catgirl-evil),
    Women Scorned (vengeful neutral/evil),
    a demonic cult (destructive/chaotic evil),
a citizen-run nationalist defence group (not evil, just defending their home from terrorists like Longbow and Wyvern),
    and a ninja group (honourable/"honourable" "evil"/evil).

    Blue-side:
a home for undead, demonic, and "otherworldly" heroes (neutral/good),
a ragtag extradimensional mercenary group (neutral/"good"),
    a meta-powered veterinary clinic (neutral/good),
a scientific research and development firm (neutral/good),
    a witches' coven (chaotic good),
a loose grouping of heroes who are homeless or "down on their luck" (neutral/good),
and a monastic order (extremist orderly good).
  21. Heh, interesting. Generally I would agree with the tag that someone just added to this thread, but posts 165 and 167 are hard for me to refute.

Also: For anyone who read that particular comic, remember that Luminary actually has a neural network patterned off of a male hero, and a body patterned after his wife. First time I read it, I didn't know . . . but now it suddenly makes so much more sense.
  22. Why? To watch her pole dance. We've already gone over this, Brand.
  23. Another suggestion:
Allow players to moderate the issue. I don't know how much power this forum software would allow, but if some active forum users could be given a specialized mod-right, that might do the trick.
All Trial-Account posts will start invisible, and be listed on a digest (which is only accessible by those who have been given this responsibility). Then these selected users can sign off on which are advertisements. Three votes of a post being an advert will cause it not to be posted. Any message which doesn't receive any votes will be posted publically after a few hours.
Give a little warning message to all trial users that this function is in operation when they hit the "Submit Reply" or "Post Message" buttons.

A rather unwieldy solution, but it would at least reduce the official mods' workloads if the problem becomes severe enough to warrent.
  24. After noticing the tags in a recent unsolicited advertisement post for an Inf "trading" website, I realize we probably shouldn't be having the discussion on how to solve the problem in that thread. That post is just going to get mod-deleted (and hopefully soon).

So, let's see if we can't come up with some solutions to this problem.

The idea of having trial accounts restricted from posting normally sounds like it could be really frustrating for legitimate players on the trial accounts, and I believe that several of the "traders" actually have subscriptions anyway, so if they really want to, they could just post using those. It's true that the text filter for "profanity" can only do so much, but I think it might be better to have a forum Moderator whose job it is to add as many various permutations of these web addresses as possible to that profanity word list.
  25. Actually, there ARE unions in the Rogue Isles. The PTS in Cap au Diable, for instance, has unionized workers. It's likely, though, that their union involves a few super-powered backers who "have words" with the employers if anything is disagreeable for the workers. That is, so long as the employers don't just buy off said backers at a rate higher than what the employees pay them in dues.
