What's funny is that what I said wouldn't even the right defense for that. Even with a quantum supercomputer from space that can keep this game above 60 FPS at all times with reasonable graphics settings, the actual lag (as opposed to frame rate loss) is server-side and cannot be alleviated by your computer specs at all. So if anyone needs to buy a better computer for high latency and packet loss issues, it's NCSoft.

Not that the typical frame rate is anything near acceptable in any of those activities, though.
  2. I'm really not looking forward to a zone with graphics like this. COH runs on one of the most poorly optimized graphical engines I've ever seen -- COV zones still make my framerate drop like a brick, and I bought a $2000+ i7 Sandy Bridge computer only four months ago. I don't think it'd be a good idea to throw new F2P players straight into a zone that will cripple their machines.

Fun fact: COH, without even any ultra mode settings on, but with stuff like world detail, character detail, and particle count maxed, runs worse than Crysis does on above-maximum settings (tweaked higher through console) on my computer. About the only thing that runs worse than that I've encountered is the trainwreck port of GTAIV.
  3. Would your group accept a character who is just interested in the fun and excitement of being a villain rather than in the money? I'd like to join but I'm wondering if my character concept won't fit in too well.
  4. This game has a whole ranch full of dead/dying ponies which are/were never cared for. PvP, AE, bases, gladiators (though nobody actually rode this one), inventions, power customization, the Shadow Shard, etc.

Unfortunately, only one pony can be taken care of at a time, and right now it's the pony wearing the Ascension Armor while galloping about in the Keyes Trial.
  5. Storm is my main set, so I'll make my one suggestion here.

The set is phenomenal in general PvE, but falls short against AVs. The reasons being:
    • AV immunity to knockdown or knockback. Knocking is one of the prime mitigation methods and is present in more powers than not in the powerset: Gale, Freezing Rain, Hurricane, Tornado, and Lightning Storm. Gale in particular is utterly useless against AVs since the knockback is the only thing it does aside from negligible damage. This also applies to the stuns in the set (Tornado/Thunderclap) -- impossible for a Storm to stack enough stun to overcome the purple triangles.
    • Lack of good debuffs against AVs. The best debuffs against AVs are -damage, -resistance, and -regen. The first two are exempt from the very high AV debuff resistance, and the last one, though resisted, usually is in high enough values to get -100%. Storm only has one of those debuffs: the -resistance. It is unique in that it has two sources of solid direct damage (Tornado/LS), but the damage they bring to the table pales in comparison to the total amount of HP prevented from regenerating by Kins, Rads, Colds, and Darks. In addition, the lack of -damage really hurts when you consider:
    • No (meaningful) buffing at all, plus the weakest ally heal in the game. O2 Boost's heal is far inferior to Heal Other, Soothe, Cauterize, hell, even Aid Other and the Peacebringer Heal (granted, not by much) are stronger. Of course, this is to balance the buffs it also gives. Unfortunately, only one of these buffs has any relevance in 99% of AV fights -- the stun protection, and then only for squishies. Sleeps are easily countered, end draining AVs is rare, and perception is utterly worthless. Combine this with the only defensive debuffs (Hurricane's tohit and FR/SS's -recharge) being resisted to hell and back, and you've got one of the weakest sets against AVs.
Since Storm's problems are only against AVs, I'd really only ask for one suggestion, as not to overpower it against everything else:

    -Regen in Tornado.

I can deal with it being not too great defensively as long it bring a massive offensive punch. -Regen plus the direct damage would make it a monstrous damage multiplier against AVs.
  6. Who I prioritize for Fortitude, in order:
    Blasters
    Scrappers
    Brutes
    Dominators
    Soldiers
    Corruptors
    Widows
    Stalkers
    Warshades
    Peacebringers
    Tankers
    Defenders
    Controllers
    Masterminds

Who I prioritize for Adrenaline Boost:
That guy who was just outside of range of the RAs
Tankers, if they're tanking something tough
    Dominators
    Blasters
    Scrappers
    etc.
  7. How I went on my Storm/Rad/Power, who I build to solo effectively and still team well.

Alpha: Musculature Core Paragon. I love squeezing out as much damage as possible on my Defender, and there are more than a few attacks I had (Neutrino Bolt, Lightning Storm) that benefitted well from procs and other slotting, such that I could make use of the damage enhancement. Plus, it's monstrous with resist debuffs and the Ion Core tree.

Judgment: Ion Core. Aside from being thematic, the chains reach quite a long way, making it an effective AOE even if the enemies have been spread out by Storm powers. I'd never even consider any other judgments for Storm characters.

Lore: Clockwork Core. I was pretty "ehh" about this choice, and honestly, if I would've known we were getting new pets so soon, I wouldn't have bothered with Lore at the time. I mainly picked them because they were all ranged, so all my knockback solo wouldn't hamper their ability to do damage.

Interface: Reactive Radial. I love damage, and Fire DOT is beautiful even with the nerf to it in Rain powers. I still have plenty of AOE to throw around to tag enemies with the DOTs.

Destiny: Clarion Core. One of the biggest no-brainers I've ever come across in this game. My game-long dream come true: actual, permanent mez protection for my Storm Defender, who has been my main since day one. I could hardly believe it when I read the power description. I'd say this power, more than any of the other incarnate powers, is what allows me to now solo +4/x8 without being reliant on inspirations. Now I never have to worry about Snowstorm and Hurricane being detoggled, and I can respec out of Acrobatics.
  8. One thing to note is that the spawn sizes scale with the number of people in your league, just like with team size in standard missions.

I've found that my chances are better with smaller leagues, since each additional member both increases the chances of having poor coordination, and increases the penalties of poor coordination with heavier reinforcements. The times I've seen raids hit the 9CU event horizon have been much greater in larger leagues.

Of course, this only applies to the PUGs. A manually assembled, coordinated team of players will certainly gain benefits from having larger leagues.
  9. The hardest part of these trials is other players. Every single failure I've had so far can be attributed to people not listening to directions.

As soon as people stop with the lone-wolf, "I can handle this myself" attitude pervasive in the rest of PvE, these trials will become easy, and even trivial once we get the additional level shifts.
  10. Going to building a new machine since the video card on my current rig died, and the rest of the hardware is showing its age. Since I'm currently unable to play the game, I'm looking to buy and build this week. Just wanted some suggestions as to which of these video cards would be better for this game when trying to shoot for high ultra mode settings, 200% world detail at 1920x1080. CoH is the main game I play by a large margin, so I'm more concerned with the performance of it than any other game.
  11. Seriously?

All of that writing should have just gone to an in-depth "Take revenge on Castle" arc, for all the good that's going to come from this post.

The devs have proven they will not ever listen to us. Just give up, it's a hopeless fight.

Broke as hell, but fun and fast.

    Game [censored] blows.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's a [censored] ton better than this game in its current state.

Not as good as this game pre-I13, but give it about a year and it'll rake this game over the coals.

  15. lolNDA, so can't give specifics.

I'll just say it's better than what we have here now.

is that game in beta yet?

Closed beta has been going on for quite some time.

    Open beta, not yet.

  20. Gotta love a two year old necropost for a bug which is still largely unresolved.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
But lets face it, MM damage sucks. It's their pets that do the real damage.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is no longer true. An MM with personal attacks in the new PvP is probably going to be doing around 55-60% of his total damage output themselves if they have the right patron (i.e. Leviathan).

It mainly has to do with the fact that pets got no damage increase whatsoever.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
only reason I moved this here is because any discussion of pvp in the other thread seems to be shunned by internet tough guy pvers

    [/ QUOTE ]

CoX, where the PvEers throw more insults than the PvPers.

Also, that change sounds like it'll turn Doms into the new Khelds, unless they make Domination a no-animation quick-recharge toggle.
  23. Now that FoN is fixed, I'm starting to wonder if /Thorns having Aim (and -Def, but not really that great) could make it a better contender to help counter high-def or high-tohit debuff builds.

I'd have to look at the animation times though, I'm not familiar with the set.

FoN + PB'ed Tactics certainly isn't cutting it on my Fire/Ice, especially since they nerfed PB too (which makes me wish I wasn't /Ice now).

There's the biggest hole in your so-called argument right there. "rewards proportionate to the risk" TF rewards were NEVER proportionate! A SO? Really? Wow! I could buy about 10 million of those. A crap recipe that I'll have to vendor? Yay! Just what I always wanted!

So....WHAT exactly do we get for these HARD TIME CONSUMING YOU BETTER COMMIT AND NOT HAVE A FAMILY EMERGENCY TF'S??? A reward "proportionate" to our efforts?

Tell you what Tony....when we get THAT, maybe anything you've said will have a LITTLE bit of merit. As it is, you're simply coming off as an uncaring buffoon. This is a GAME, and honestly ANYTHING that happens in real life that deserves your immediate attention is more important. PERIOD.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Wow. Hook, line, and sinker.

    Good trolling work there, Tony.

Oh, and to keep this post on-topic: I'm rather afraid of what the next redname post is going to say. Odds are it's not going to be anything which any of us want to hear on the matter.

But oh well. Cappy runs can still be done pretty quickly on a decent 4 man team. Not really the end of the world for anyone but people who want to run anything other than Katie or Cappy, lol.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
    - It was always intended for TFs to become 'impossible' if too many people quit (that's WHY you can't add more people: it's part of the challenge).

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Time to reintend.

I don't want the "challenge" of a TF to be discovering that the Defender in the group is 12 years old and has to go to bed. I don't want the "challenge" of a TF to be the Tanker saying his wife is getting mad at him and has to quit. I don't want the "challenge" of a TF to be a malevolent mapserver or ISP, especially one that's not on my end.

I want the challenge of a TF to be the TF itself.

If they want TFs to be viewed in this manner by players, they need to redo every TF/SF made before I7 to look more like LRSF/STF/LGTF, in which there are between four to seven missions, with each presenting a unique challenge that actually requires a balanced team to overcome.

Not this "string of 15 paper missions followed by some lame AV" crap.
