Quote:blah, JMS's run on Spidey was one of the best things to happen to that character in a LONG time. after dealing with the clone saga, MJ dying/not dying, Aunt May dying/not dying, and all the other crap it was awesome to see Peter back to his roots. the totem was interesting take on the concept and i dont understand why it gets bashed.Okay the totem thing. Just Bad-Dumb, start to finish.
The Iron Spidey thing. Wasn't a huge fan of it. However the whole setup for Stark locking up the armor and Peter sandbagging him by having back-doored the armor's controls? It was almost worth putting up with the whole subplot just to see Stark taken down a peg or three.
And while some people hated the unmasking. Three words describe it's crowning moment of awesome.
Jameson's Reaction Shot.
40+ years of pulling the web over JJJ's eyes. And he gets pimp-smacked with it ON NATIONAL TV!
as for Iron spidey, another good idea with decent execution. It's not like Stark hadn't built power suits for other heroes in the past, and having Tony and Peter together for a while was just damned awesome. JMS reinvigorated the character (and his sales) enough so that they actually cared enough to give him multiple titles again.
then watch as Joephisto pissed it and all the accumulated good will away with OMD. i came back to the book with JMS and i left when he did. what really gets me is how many writers, some of them i genuinely like and actually ARE talented, initially backed Joey Q on the "break up Peter and MJ" idea. now, not so many. -
Quote:what gets me here is that the "Road Home" comics they were putting out were actually really good. though it was a pain in the *** the first week and realizing that though they claim those were all one-shots, there was a definite order to read them in, otherwise you'd get lost pretty quickly.Yes waiting for ish 6 of Return of Bruce Wayne would have been a good idea.
dammit. -
dont think we have to worry about that horrid artwork infecting the Batman, Inc." works since none of those artists are scheduled to work on the upcoming Bat-Titles. (or at least, they aren't working on Batman, Inc., Dark Knight, or Batman & Robin) but after reading through that last part of Morrison's story in B&R #16, THAT'S how they're intro'ing the new batman era?
eech.
worse was seeing them blow Bruce's Return with no explanation, and of course, the last part of the Return of BW isn't out yet. so yeah, good going there guys. criminey. -
The problem wasn't that RIP was bad story. it was just convoluted and annoying, and one of those stories that feels like it was meant to be read more as one sitting or as a graphic novel than from month to month. was still torqued that they went out of their way during interviews to say "of course we're not killing Batman" during the story and then essentially do it during Final Crisis. I mean if you were going to gank the guy, i think it would've been better to do so BEFORE the ungodly huge crossover event, and then watch how the whole thing goes down without the Bat-god there to figure it out. but i digress...and often.
Countdown was trash. i went back and reread it, still trash. forget the multitude of pointless tie-ins, and yes, they were pointless. Countdown meandered from one story point to the next and while it had one or two bright spots during it's run, it got quickly bogged down in plots that were built up and then forgotten about almost immediately. Hell the "main plot" in hunting down Ray Palmer and then the multiversal jaunt was just frakking horrid, not to mention Kyle showing up during the crossover and spoiling some of the events from the Sinestro Corps War. Of course there was the conflict between Countdown and DoNG towards the end, and both of those were in conflict with the start of FC, despite being touted as lead-ins to the crossover. last up, was the sheer amount of executive meddling in this book. After 52 hit it off so well, but without DiDio screwing around with, he decided to take a more direct hand with this weekly book... and well... it shows.
Final. Crisis. i just.. ugh. i mean... how, how can a concept so simple as "Darkseid's dying, tries to both rule the multiverse and save his life, or take everything down with him" get so screwed up? my thoughts? having gone off his meds shortly before the end of RIP and raging at DiDio hosing him over by using/killing the New Gods, Morrison wrote Final Crisis. makes sense when it's done that way. the bright side of that mess? we got Rogue's Revenge and Legion of Three Worlds out of it. -
bold statement, but name recognition alone is going to guarantee that this thing is going to clear 100$ million regardless as to how good or bad it really is. no it won't rake in the same cash the others have, but it's still going to make enough to be VERY profitable.
-
of all the tings that could possibly break the internet, i think that's on the list.
-
that doesn't make the proposal any less awesome.

Quote:well, except gobs and gobs of money. but isn't that the primary reason to try and make ANY movie?Sadly I agree...there really is no reason to make this Spider-Man movie.
Quote:Even worse, as Sony owns the SM film rights there is no way we will even get a sniff of Spider-Man showing up in the Marvel Universe that is being built on the silver screen (Iron Man, Avengers, etc.). -
Quote:it's a llama thing. If I wrote a comic as epic as Batman's, after about 70 years, I'd just have a comic end with him shooting the Joker in the face with a magnum. A caption reads "And he never had problems again".
And then I'd just switch the focus over to a different character.
I love Batman, but the temptation to mess with everybody would be too much. -
Quote:not so much on the other side of the world. Both groups had to wait for clearance before being allowed to go after Black Adam after his rampage through China. Also Russia is notoriously unfriendly to outside supertypes, preferring to rely mostly on the Rocket Reds. So while i would expect some places to at least marginally accept a 'Batman' running around. (which, after the Batman around the world storyline, a lot of them already do.) There's going to (obviously) be friction quite often.Everywhere else he is considered the same as everyone else and everyone else is the JLA and JSA both of which have international top level clearance to do whatever they want pretty much
Though to be honest, the problem i have here isn't so much the idea of a Batman, Inc. But that this idea was tested and then utterly stalled in 'The Web', which ended it's run little more than a year ago. But hey, maybe Morrison can make a better run of it because he's a)more popular than the guy who first wrote the Web, and b)has way more editorial freedom to do whatever the hell he wants. -
Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben... YES!
Sally Field as Aunt May... eh, mebbe if she dyed her hair? -
ive never been overly fond of a lot of Morrison's work on the Bat-franchise, and the last few major storylines of his have been somewhat less than stellar. doesn't mean a couple of the concepts he's running with aren't worthwhile. while at the moment, the Silver/Bronze Age fanboys are running the show, DC isn't adverse to having a couple characters running around with the same name. (Green Lantern & Flash being the two most prominent examples) So i'm interested in seeing how long Bruce & Grayson will both be running around as Batman before Grayson gives up the cowl again. (because hey, fanbois want development, but HATE permanent change. hell, fanbois that don't even get the comics anymore ***** about it)
Morrison has been setting up the idea of a worldwide Batman network for a while now, and i want to see where he goes with it. With any luck, they'll have a better artist. Now, will this ruin the Bat-franchise? of course not. if this falls on it's face that ******* horribly, they can handwave it away within a couple months and everything will be back to fanboi quo. but who knows, this could be a worthwhile story with some staying power. -

opened the night with taking pics of my godson(4) and nephew(1 and 1/2), who'd both been dressed up as Superman before their respective parentals (and a few friends who used the two of them as an excuse...) took them out into the new neighborhood to do some T&T. then it was spending the night with family and friends celebrating Samhain remembering those who've gone on before us. it was a good night.
the costume party & debauchery ends up being delayed until Saturday since most of my friends have jobs that mean they end up working on Halloween (DJs, magicians, Rennies, etc.), so that gets delayed for a week. -
id probably still be using MHC pretty regularly, but ive cut back on buying so many back issues and just pick up trades, and i get a better deal on those from amazon or instock trades.
-
yeah, for quite a few years there MHC was my pretty much my sole source of comics. do remember quite a few months i think i dropped 20 or 30$ easy just on the cheap section.
-
before my current FLCS opened up, i was ordering pretty steadily from Mile High Comics. it's been a while since i last really dealt with them, but ive a couple buddies that still place orders with them. they're quick and have a huge selection. old or new stuff. so give them a look if you haven't already found someone else.

Quote:and that is why you fail. This is why Captain Marvel will always ALWAYS be better than Super Man
following on the heels of the New Krypton storyline, this has been a damn good story so far. definitely some of the strongest in a while, but i can see how some folks who're pretty much expecting a smashfest are disappointed. -
Quote:went to go and pick this up at my FLCS today during my weekly comic snag, damn thing sold out 3 or 4 hours after they opened the doors the day before. one of the owner's did manage to snag his own copy and was kind enough to let me take a flipthrough of it.Has anyone actually read this yet? I saw it in my local comic shop yesterday. But the price tag was hefty enough to discourage me from buying it without hearing some kind of review of it.
im gonna be ordering it from amazon now. just from the quick once over it looks good, very, very good. (and of course not one damn thing like the idiot Post wrote about.) -

there no words to properly describe the awesome... wait... maybe... nope. we need to invent new ones now.
Groovy. -
ill take many of the episodes of both Voyager and Enterprise over Abrahms' version of Trek. yeah, the ending of both series were craptacular. but there more than a handful of decent episodes during each season on both shows. for Nemesis, all i can say is that it wasn't that bad. it just wasn't that good.

Quote:in defense of the idea that there might've been a few releases that had a couple extra scenes, there was a prerelease booklet talking about Star Wars and in the original soundtrack album there were stock shots of the 'deleted scenes.'They were not in YOUR THEATER'S copy of the movie. They were pretty clearly in dozens of other theaters.
however, i think you people are just seeing things and are obviously pretty crazed.
