  1. Playing a kin/fire corruptor. Only level 37, so I have some time to figure it out, but....
At the moment I have 5 slotted Touch of the Nictus. But...I really don't like the set bonuses. I much prefer the bonuses of Numina's set. How much base accuracy from other bonuses (and the kismet) do I need to be accurate as much as with the Touch of the Nictus set?

Or, should I just forget about it, and use health as a set mule? I find myself in melee a fair amount, but am at range as well. I was thinking more of bonuses to types of damage, rather than positional.

    Here's my build so far...

Please tell me if this is fairly adequate, or do I need to go back to the drawing board?
  2. Thanks for the effort you went to.

    =3*(1-ATAN(3*0.33)*2/PI()*0.8)

In this equation, I am assuming that ATAN and PI are excel's ArcTangent and 3.14.

The first 3 and then the 3 inside the (3*.33) -- Those values stem from the total of my global recharge and the value of the enhanced recharge for the given power, if I understand you correctly.

Where I'm lost at is where the .8 comes from...that's a constant?

And, would anything ever go inside the parentheses after PI?
  3. Obviously, since Statesman has died, as well as Sister Psyche, they don't spawn anymore in RV. Sadly, I waited around too long to get them done as a villain - so I'll never get them.

My question is, did the folks that did earn them keep them, or did they change into whatever the equivalent badge is for clobbering Ms Liberty and Penelope Yin? (Oppressor and Interrogator)
  4. In PvE, I have 175%, or thereabouts (176.25%, I think) on my ill/rad.

In PvP, this number drops down to 105%. I know things are different - but if I have 205% in pve, what will I have in pvp?

Is there are chart? a ratio to follow?

How much recharge in a pvp zone do I need to have perma PA?

If I have PvP IOs that give recharge in a pvp zone, will me recharge still be nerfed in pvp zones?

It's a small wonder that people don't pvp that much when questions like these need to be answered - and answers are not found by talking to any of the npcs in the pvp zones.

I'd like to spend some inf and give pvp a fair shake - but until a build planner calculates this stuff, I'll be stabbing in the dark. Any advice or info? Thanks.

Dude - the way you rocked the house tonight with ugt, tpn and magi - if anyone gives you flack - you put them on global ignore.

I gotta hunch they will probably need you before you need them.

Don't know of anyone who explains stuff so a fella knows what's going on the way you do.

I can't argue with the premise that an experienced player will make almost any build look pretty good when they play. But, I guarantee you that despite my low post count, I know my way around CoH. I know what domination is supposed to do - that's not the part I don't get. What I don't get is why people build for it - because now that I have it, I'm not in the least bit impressed with it.

It was out of humility that I asked if I was missing something.

As for why I didn't have perma dom in that specific invasion, I did as suggested and went into a mission and found that I did have it. So, my only conclusion is that there was some server lag/latency or packet loss or some technical reason why my dom button didn't appear to be recharged.

So, please don't think you're dealing with a complete moron - I'm only unclear on why when I read about players building their doms they speak of perma-domination like it's as good as perma eclipse, or perma PA or perma Dull Pain. (and it's not even in the same boat as those)

I will confess to taking part in one msr at level 38 during 2xp weekend and then parking the toon for a couple of months until I decided to finish what I started with it. So, perhaps those 2 easy levels distorted my learning curve.

Thanks to the rest of you who answered my questions and shared your views.
  7. Ok, I admit it. I have gotten to level to with an elec/elec dom.

I looked through the boards, asked for some help, got some, and used a lot of merits to get a lot of converters to afford a very pricy build with a lot of recharge that supposed to give me "perma-dom".

I was at a nem invasion, and after a time, the dom bar filled, and I popped it - and then, it dropped - but dom wasn't ready yet. My global recharge is over 150%, and my understanding is 123% is perma-dom

    So, my questions are:

    1. Do nems have a -recharge to any of their attacks? I looked on my buff bar, and there were so many icons, it was hard to tell what was a buff and what might have been a debuff.
    2. For the sake of argument, let's say I do have "perma-dom" - aside from seeing the word "Domination" in orange, I don't see any extra damage being dished out. Some numbers could be covered up by the word domination. I also notice my end bar gets filled - which is reason enough to try to maintain "Domination". I also get that while in Domination status, I have a certain amount of kb protection, as well as mez protection.

While in that nem league, I got some buffs and was able to have permadom - but aside from that protection, I didn't notice anything else special about it. If I slotted more for end recovery and damage and less for recharge, would domination even be worth aiming for? After spending almost 4 billion on this toon, I'm ready to rip out the IOs and sell them because now that I supposedly have perma Dom, I really don't see anything special about it.

Here's my build. What am I missing?

  8. Yeah, open mouth, insert foot.

I'd had a 25% booster running from the previous play session and didn't see the icon for it in my buff bar.

Still - when I right clicked on it to find out maybe why it wasn't working, that's when I saw the bit about it working on a friendly target - which is not at all what I was expecting. I still think they should have described this in the store. It's not the first time I've bought one thing and found out I have something else.

Sorry for ranting, but it ticked me off and there's no csr to speak with about it.

Still, the caveat is a lesson well learned - before I spend any more points, I'll find out ahead of time what's up.
  9. The GM that visited me in game told me I should post about this here.

As you can tell from my join date, I'm not a savvy long term vet player. I joined up a bit before Freedom, and when freedom came out, because I didn't have that many characters, I went to premium and used an invention license.

Anyhow, I have a Dom, level 48 now. And I wanted to hit 50 today. I still might, but I went to the market and bought the 50% XP booster, the one on the bottom.

Well guess what folks! It won't work on my character. It will work on a "target friendly" character. So, I can give this boost to a teammate, but not my own character? This would be great for farmers who pl their alts, but it doesnt' do my character a bit of good!

What person is in charge of the in-game Paragon Market. I'd really like to know why they do things like this! How many people are going to buy this thing, thinking that they will get a 50% boost, only to find out, after they've spent the points that it won't?

You know, the freebies have the right idea. Drain the games resources, take up server space, irritate the vip with useless chatter in help, and run dfb until we all puke because when they get to 50 they haven't a clue about how to negotiate a pull as a blaster.....oops, that's a rant, there. Better stop that. /end rant

Seriously, now that I've gotten that off my chest, does anyone know the name of the person that places these things in the market, but doesn't let us get more info on it - how in the world am I supposed to know that the boost I bought was for some teammate?

Don't be impatient to hit 50 like me. Just do msrs and nem invasions. Don't spend your points on ANYTHING in the store unless you know ahead of time exactly what you're getting, because all sales are final. Even if you didn't get what you thought you paid for.

CoH - you really should rethink your return policy. I won't ever be buying anything, and I sure am glad I only went vip for 1 month instead of 3.
  10. I don't suppose anyone minds terriby - I'm a premium who buys the IO license - and I might go VIP soon.

Either way, I've looked high and low for an Earth/Cold Controller build, and I'm not having any luck.

My own build, after an MSR or two during 2xp weekend got well....unfocused.

Don't suppose anyone has a soft-capped defense build they could share?

(incidentally, posting here because I can't post in the right spot)

When I said they weren't too big on talent, I probably should have been more clear. It's worth mentioning that they are some of the nicest people I've ever come across in game. But, because they're so nice, they're not focused on getting the job done. They were more focused on conversation. At least, that was my experience.
If I want conversation, I can pick up the phone. I play to kill stuff to get stuff so I can kill stuff more easily.

And I certainly didn't team with the entire server. That was just my experience with several iTrials and tfs. I'm quite certain they have some great players.

And I do think it's important for everyone to try each server, play a toon to 20 or so, see how they like it.

If it's bad at 20, it isn't likely to get any better at 50. Again, just my opinion - last I checked, I couldn't sell it, so it's worthless.
  12. I tried Freedom - not long for a team invite, but man, overall some poor players, imo.

Virtue isn't bad, but I only played to level 16, maybe I didn't give them a fair look.

Champion has got talented players - but their global channels do very little chatter, it's like everyone likes everyone up to a point, because they dont' really get to know anyone through the channels.

On the opposite end, Liberty's global channels have enough chatter to kill a mood. Man, some of those dudes must not even play, just yak!
Seems like they have a lot of really good players (a couple of odd balls, too) and they all seem to be more than willing to stop what they're doing to help someone out. Lot of iTrials, and the MoUGTs on Sundays are almost a sure thing. (I'm premium now, so going off what I heard)

One dude gave me 100 million just because he could.
Another player gave me 500 million because I made a villain.

There are odd little contests on liberty for fair size inf prizes - hide and go seek, things like that.

Exalted has got a mix of experienced players and noobs. It just doesn't feel right to me.
Triumph is ...well, there's just not many there that I could see.
Pinnacle has some good folks, but not many of them.

Infinity has some nice people, but they don't seem too big on talent.

I guess overall, I like Liberty best.

I am sure some will disagree with parts of my post, but hey, they're only my opinion.
  13. Thanks for your fast responses!

I was aware I could slot out of the set. My build is a little flexible, but I need more slots, lol. I only have room to 5 slot most of my melee attacks. I saved a couple of slots by breaking the brute ATO set in half - and once I'm able to, I'll slap some catalysts on them.

But, try as I might, I can't seem to get all 4 attributes in the green. (and still keep the 4 kin combats for the nice def bonus. )

When I add the hecatomb acc/rec I get closer, but even boosted my endurance isn't in the green.

That's certainly acceptable - lol, what choice do I have? - but I can only use one hecatomb acc/rec.

I guess I'll just have to settle for the mako's acc/end/rech to still keep the bonus. Darn shame I can't use more than one set of ATOs - those things are great!
  14. Hi.
Before folks tell me this should be posted in the inventions forum, or some other place - for whatever reason, I'm not allowed to post there.

    I have a street justice/electric armor brute.

The sounds of some of these attacks certainly make me feel like I'm whiffing more often than not. Sometimes, I'll get a sweeping cross in and hear a nice crunch!
I have used the sentinal tool to upload my build into mids'.

Because I tend to set my difficulty at +4/8, accuracy is important to me.
I have the kismet accuracy unique. My understanding is that this works the same at level 10 as it does at level 50. (the IO in question is a level 10)
So, I'm looking at the kin combat set in mids. I thought I understood enhancement diversification. With SOs, it's a fairly simple concept. But, with IO sets, it seems far more complicated than it ought to be.(for me to understand it)

    Accuracy 22.94%
    Damage 85.45%
    Endurance 41.29%
    Recharge 41.29%

Those are the values that mids' shows me based on my toon being level 50 (although at the moment my character is level 46)

I have a slew of enhancement boosters to use. What I'd like to do, is add a 5th slot and somehow get all attributes to be boosted as much as I can without wasting any. (based on my character being level 50.)

Currently, I have two IO bonuses that increase my global accuracy by 9%.
With the kismet giving 6% ToHit and two sets of 9%(from the 4 lotgs I have in combat jump and weave), is mids' taking those bonuses into account?

Paragon Wiki has a lot of general information on the topic, but I can't seem to get my head around the math. Mids', though quite handy, seems to have a steep learning curve for me.

When I add an enhancement booster or two, sometimes the numbers turn yellow or red - which tell me that I'm boosting it too high.

Green seems to be the lowest threshold within some low percentage of acceptable waste.

Is there a way to get all attributes green? Or very close to it?

Why on earth didn't they make the set so that all attributes for a given IO set would already boost right up to the point before ED takes effect?

    Thanks.
