@Nalrok: Yeah I've gone ahead and swapped Gloom for ST
@ Void: Thanks for the suggestions! I had forgotten about KC giving Defense bonuses, and I'll take a look into whether they'll fit in without killing my +Rchg (I've built this toon for +Rchg as much as possible).
If I can afford Abs. Amazement I'll definitely pick it up. I spent a good portion of my time over the last 4 days of tweaking this build thinking "man, if I could only afford a purple set"How do you define "cheap"? I have one toon that has 150 mil. Most of my other toons with any significant levels (yay alt-itis!!!) are only in the 10-20 mil range.
I already have a Numina's and a Miracle in Health, and since I use Siphon Life every chance it's up I figured it would do just as well there, but it can be moved
How exactly does the regen tissue proc work? I thought it was a "proc 120" meaning that once you activate the power it checks every 10 sec for an activation for the next 2 minutes. If that's how it works, then there's really no need to move it (although it couldn't hurt anything if I did).
I set up Consume the way I did to get the Acc/Rchg/Def set bonuses, on a suggestion from galadiman. DC is, as of now, 5-slotted with Efficacy Adapters, but I could drop one from there for RotP if I needed to do so for Abs. Amazement (and I'd have to scavenge for 2 other slots, but it would be worth it!). -
Thanks Salty!
I went back and forth between Gloom and Soul Tentacles, and ultimately settled on ST based on the fact that 1) it's an AoE power, and 2) I get better set bonuses with it than I do from Gloom (ST has +Acc and +Rchg).
However, now that I'm looking at it again, with the increases to +Acc from galadiman's suggestions, I could drop ST and pick up Gloom, still maintain the same level of +Rchg, and only lose a bit of +Acc, but still have more than the original build.
I'll give it a look, thanks! And I'll look over your build and see if there's anything different that I can do. Expensive isn't going to work for me though, since playtime and Inf are limited. -
With the build in the initial post, the Global bonuses to Acc bring the Acc up to 155.7 from 90, but that's changed a bit taking Galadiman's suggestions into account.
This is the other build that I came up with that focuses a bit more on Def without sacrificing much, based on Galadiman's suggestions above. I've also incorporated the changes to RotP you suggested in your latest post.
This is the build I'm most happy with "on paper", but I don't know how it will play, so I'd like some input on this as well. If this build is flawed compared to the first one I'd like to know why:

Quote:Thanks Nalrok. Believe it or not, I did just that after looking at it some more. It's my best +End power, so I thought it should be used that way. And I dropped it down to 5 slots since I didn't need the 6th and moved it over to Hover to get the 10% Regen bonus from the LotG set.I myself wouldn't put Obliteration into Dark Consumption; you don't need that to be an attack. I'd put in a set of Efficacy Adaptor.
Do you see any other "issues" with the primary, since you've got such good familiarity with DM/ ? -
Quote:Interesting! That keeps the +Rchg the same and ups the S/L Def by 5.4% to 21.8%, and also raises the Melee Def by 11.1% to 29.3%. The Recovery drops off a bit, as does the Regen, but with 2 +End powers the Recovery shouldn't be an issue. The Regen difference is only 1 HP/sec, which means it takes 14 extra sec to go from 0 - 100% health.A few quick hits: I would slot Obliterations in Dark Consumption and Consume as well as Blazing Aura. And Soul Drain.
If you can find the slots, 6 in each gets you huge +Def. Also, with Burn, makes you a PBAOE nightmare.
Where to get slots? Some candidates: Hasten, Stamina, RotP, Soul tentacles, One of the 3(?) KB Prot IOs, Weave. I opted out of Shadow Maul, and I took Air Sup instead (some mitigation) and stayed out of DN.
Thanks galadiman, there's something to consider here. -

Hi all,
I've been reading guides, playing in Mids, and I don't know if there's anything else I can do with this toon to tweak it. This build is lvl 35 on live, and it's going really well. I'm interested in seeing if I've made any glaring errors so far in this final build - is there something I should/shouldn't take, slots out of place, etc. Any advice at all is welcome! Since it's a /FA, I set it up for +Rchg and +Regen and tried to get as much defense as I could without gimping the build.
EDIT: Updated build in post #9, based on suggestions to that point. Comments on that build, or (even better) pros/cons with respect to this first build appreciated!!
Thanks in advance.

Can you post your current build? It would help so that folks know what you're doing now and can suggest improvements.

I can take a stab at some of your questions, but I'm by no means an expert (I've got plenty of questions myself on my DM/FA brute):
As far as the Defense and Resistance questions go, I'm fairly clueless. It's one of the things I'm having trouble with myself. Not sure how much you know about Def vs Res, but Defense prevents an enemy from hitting you at all (so with 50% Def to Melee, for example, any melee attack made against you has a 50% less chance of hitting you). Resistance lets them hit you, but it mitigates the amount of damage you take (so with 50% Resistance to Smashing damage, any Smashing type damage will hit for 1/2 of it's inital value). I'm sure there's a LOT more to it than that, but that's about the extent of my knowledge.
From looking at Nalroth's guide, it looks like /DA is a Resistance-based set, which is the same as /FA. From what I've read about /FA, most people will go with a +Rchg/+HP/+Regen build, because trying to get Def to the S/L softcap on a Res based set is almost impossible without gimping the build. It can be done, but you wind up giving away damage, endred, rech, acc, etc. in order to get it.
I've been aiming for 15-20% Def from Set Bonuses and as high a Recharge as I can get, which would also include trying to fit in Stamina into the build to help the +Rchg.
The good thing about your power pools is that both DM and DA have heals. DM has Siphon Life, which is nice for topping off your health, and DA has Dark Consumption, which is apparently the best heal in the game from what I've read.
Based on all that, it seems you may be better off going for a +Rchg build and using your Darkest Night toggle to keep from getting hit. I'm planning on the Soul APP myself just to get DN so that I can do this as well.
As for the attacks: You could do a character copy over to the test server, do the respec on the test server, and try the build out there. That will let you decide if making the changes you're indicating will be viable or not for your playstyle.
End/Toggles: I've read somewhere that you should aim for as close to 1/sec end use and at least a 1/sec differential between recovery and useage. You're only looking at a 0.6/sec differential as of now - it seems your toggles don't have hardly any EndRedux in them at all if you're using 2.2 end/sec. I think that's going to be an issue, but again the test server respec could give you a better idea.
I hope this helps! -
This is a guide by Nalrok_AthZim on the D/D/D Brute:

I'm sure he'll come in and offer any other advice, but that should get you started. -
Thanks for the insight into the "buying" aspect of the more expensive sets Ryougi. I'm a far cry from a "power" player, as I'm only able to play 5 hrs a week or so, and it makes me try to come up with "cheaper" ways to do the same thing.
So here's the build I came up with. I've tweaked it about a dozen times so far, including stuff from this post.

I've managed to squeeze out 73.75% +Rchg for permaDom. My biggest concern doing this is that I've used a substandard set (Basilisk's Gaze) to get there. Getting a purple set would alleviate that, but again I don't know how feasible it is going to be for me to get a purple set.
From the other side of the coin, is this even something to worry about? Is there really going to be that much difference in effectiveness between Basilisk and Lockdown/GW's Embrace? BG caps at level 30, but on paper the differences just don't look that great, so I may just be worrying for nothing.
I was planning on either a Kismet 6% Acc or a Karma Knock* Protection for the hole in CJ at 43. I'm not sure if either are necessary for the build, but that was my plan. I can always move that slot elsewhere if it would do more good.
Thanks all! -
Quote:Thanks Muon, I hadn't considered just using a GW and Neuronic proc in VG alongside a 4-slot Basilisk for the +rech. I'm most definitely not one to spend a ton of inf, I'd prefer to do it w/o purples if I can do so without gimping the build. I'll post the build in a separate thread so that I don't detract from Ryougi's request. As for affording purples, dunno. Like I said, I don't know what the prices are these days, so that was more along the lines of a theoretical suggestion if you can swing it. If you don't care about getting damage out of VG, then you can just as easily do Basilisk's (or even frankenslotting) plus a lockdown proc (a dom certainly doesn't need the damage as much as, say, a controller would).
About squeezing as much recharge as possible, it's hard to tell without seeing a build, and I'm not really the right person to ask anyway as I prefer cheaper builds myself. If you post your current build, you might be able to get advice from some of the power builders here in the dom forum, though. -
Quote:I'm also leveling an Earth/Fire (24 now) and I'm wondering how I can afford the purples - they're ungodly expensive. As of now, I'm using Basilisk's Gaze in VG because that's the only way I can figure out how to get enough +Rech to get to permaDom because the purples are ridiculous to get a hold of. I'd love to know if I'm missing something because putting the procs in VG seems like a great idea, but I can't squeeze in enough +Rech elsewhere (even with taking Combat Jumping and Hover for LOTG slots) to be able to do it.Due to some quirks of the way the power works, volcanic gasses works especially well with hold set procs, giving them many more chances to go off per use than most powers. Thus, once you get to 50, I would try the following slotting, if you can afford it: Unbreakable constraint hold/rech, acc/hold/rech, proc, lockdown end/hold/rech, proc, ghost widow or neuronic shutdown proc. I haven't looked recently, but if the purple proc is too expensive you could substitute whichever of the ghost widow/neuronic shutdown procs you're not already using. This gives you more than enough acc, hold, and rech, along with three very nice procs that will be going off a lot over the whole duration of the power. (Before 50 you can just replace the purples with equivalents from the lower level sets, see how you like it.)
Would it be "bad form" to post my build here? I don't want to usurp Ryougi's thread.
Also, the pet Resistance procs - are those from the Expedient Reinforcement and Sovreign Right sets? -
I made an Earth/Fire a few days ago. A bit painful in the 8-14 range, but I think that happens with most toons. About to hit 20 in Praetoria (Those Ghouls are a #&*%@%!!!), and the Earthquake/Quicksand combo is not letting anything touch me. Then it's all about the BURN!
Really enjoying this toon so far. I made a Grav/Ice when I first started (ah, blissful ignorance, how I adore thee!!) and this toon looks to be so much more. -
Quote:I almost exclusively slot the yellow sets while I am leveling. They are cheap, effective, and the salvage is cheap to boot (except recently when the uncommon salvage has been selling for 500k).
Focus Smite =)
Don't try to get set bonuses, most cheap sets are cheap because the bonuses are crap. Just slot your powers, so that you don't need to slot again in 4 levels. Once they are slotted, you can keep the enhancements in until 50.
What level do you start slotting the sets? From reading over the brute guides, it seems like the focus is different for the 1-20 game (acc/endredux) vs. the mid to upper (start dropping endredux in favor of dmg). Do you hold off on the sets until you're in your 20s?
What happens now, post I19, that Stamina is an inherent? Is focusing on endredux still the way to go at early levels? That's what I've done (since I don't know any better) and so far through 14 I've only had my shield drop once.
If the opinion is that, yes even with inherent stamina at 2 (which I'm not going to slot until 19 or 21 anyway), I should be slotting acc/endredux, it seems like I should wait until 20s to bother with sets (around SO level). It seems like this would also ensure that the bonuses from the sets won't be too terribly low. -
Hi all,
I've recently started a DM/FA Brute, and I was wondering if it was worth my time and inf to bother with IO sets at the lower levels?
It seems that I'm going to out-level enhancements fast enough that dropping semi-expensive IO Sets into my powers wouldn't be a good idea until I'm 50. Do people actually bother using the yellow IO Sets? Do they cost little enough that it would be the same thing as buying SOs or standard IOs for the same levels? Should I even bother with standard IOs until late game (40+) and just stick with SOs, then go to IOs/IO Sets?
If there's a guide written about IO sets and outfitting toons with them I'll be happy with a url, I just haven't been able to find one.
Thanks in advance!

ok thanks Oldeb. I logged back out and in again, and still not working. The code in the link you gave is the same as what's in my bind. I even tried typing in
/e flypose2
directly to the chat window and that's not working either. very strange. -
Hi all!
Returning after taking a rather long break from the game, and my bind for fly poses isn't working. Did they take them out of the game?
Thanks in advance,
vel -
Trying this now, I'll update when I find out more.
-
No firewall Grim - I disabled it during installation and the run. I have Comodo internet security firewall/antivirus installed, but I remember from my old desktop install that the firewall causes problems during the game startup, so I turned it off.
Is there an easy way to move the game, or do I have to waste another hour + reinstalling from scratch? -

Hey all,
I just put together a new PC, and I've run into trouble logging in. My old XP based laptop logs in fine, so it has to be the new computer setup.
Everything installs fine, but I keep getting the "can't connect to login server" message. I'm not getting an error, I just can't connect.
I'm guessing I have a problem with a driver or possibly a config file somewhere. This is my first new computer in about 5 years, and the technology is almost over my head, so anyone who can help out I would appreciate it.
Here's my hardware specs:
Intel i7 2.66 GHz
MSI x58 Platinum MoBo
2 GeForce 260s in SLI
6Gb RAM
Windows 64-bit Ultimate
Soundblaster card (X-Fi Fatality)
The Nvidia drivers are updated to the latest version on Nvidia's site and I have installed SP2 for Vista.
Thanks in advance! -
Ebon, what difficulty do you normally run your missions on?
