IO Sets at lower levels

Hi all,

I've recently started a DM/FA Brute, and I was wondering if it was worth my time and inf to bother with IO sets at the lower levels?

It seems that I'm going to out-level enhancements fast enough that dropping semi-expensive IO Sets into my powers wouldn't be a good idea until I'm 50. Do people actually bother using the yellow IO Sets? Do they cost little enough that it would be the same thing as buying SOs or standard IOs for the same levels? Should I even bother with standard IOs until late game (40+) and just stick with SOs, then go to IOs/IO Sets?

If there's a guide written about IO sets and outfitting toons with them I'll be happy with a url, I just haven't been able to find one.

Thanks in advance!

I almost exclusively slot the yellow sets while I am leveling. They are cheap, effective, and the salvage is cheap to boot (except recently when the uncommon salvage has been selling for 500k).

Focus Smite =)

Don't try to get set bonuses, most cheap sets are cheap because the bonuses are crap. Just slot your powers, so that you don't need to slot again in 4 levels. Once they are slotted, you can keep the enhancements in until 50.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

What level do you start slotting the sets? From reading over the brute guides, it seems like the focus is different for the 1-20 game (acc/endredux) vs. the mid to upper (start dropping endredux in favor of dmg). Do you hold off on the sets until you're in your 20s?

What happens now, post I19, that Stamina is an inherent? Is focusing on endredux still the way to go at early levels? That's what I've done (since I don't know any better) and so far through 14 I've only had my shield drop once.

If the opinion is that, yes even with inherent stamina at 2 (which I'm not going to slot until 19 or 21 anyway), I should be slotting acc/endredux, it seems like I should wait until 20s to bother with sets (around SO level). It seems like this would also ensure that the bonuses from the sets won't be too terribly low.

I slot at lvl 25. Depending on what I can find, the IO lvs that I use are between 19-28. For powers that I get at lvl 30 and higher, I slot with lvl 20-40 IOs to keep cost down. The higher the IO, the more it cost to craft. Also, there's a transition at a certain level where the IO needs a rare salvage to craft. For example:
Scirocco's Dervish: Accuracy/Damage
Lv 25 - need Heads Up Display which costs about 10000 inf
Lv 26 - need Impervium which costs about 2.5 - 3 million inf

If you craft a set of Sciro @ Lv 26+, the rare salvage cost is 3 mil x 6 = 18 mil.
Assuming a rare salvage cost of 50000 for Lv 25 Sciro, cost is 50000 x 6 = 300000.

Sadly, due to the monkey farms, lv 20-40 recipes and salvage are short in supply because AE drops tickets, not recipe or salvage. So there's not enough folks at level 20-40 putting up their recipe and salvage drops for sale.

An alternative to sets is common IOs. In some cases, it's actually cheaper to buy them from the market than to make it yourself. I think the commons are listed under Crafted->Other. Slot lvl 25 or 30 ones and you should be good to go! Good luck!

Traditionally I start slotting at 7. I specifically aim for the ones that give recovery bonuses. But now that I get stamina for free I don't really care and can go for anything that works.

I have found that you don't want to buy the crafted ones, they're all going for ludicrous amounts. I hate to say it, but the buyers aren't being helpful, I've been listed everything I craft level 20 and lower for either 48k or 69k crafted and they're moving for like 500k to 1m. Anyway, the recipes move for under 10k.

My recommendation is to sell all your salvage on the market for 1 inf, vendor your recipes and TOs. Craft any recipes that you can actually slot. You should be able to afford nearly any recipe you want and if you can't afford the salvage wait for it to drop while you play or run an AE mission and roll it with tickets.

I really appreciate having bonuses that don't expire in the middle of a mission when I level up.

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

I start shopping for IOs to frankenslot in the late teens/early 20s, there isn't much available to buy at really low levels.

Many brute attacks have secondary effects i.e. KB, disorient, -tohit, taunt etc. Most of those sets are dirt cheap and have 1 or 2 IOs that are enhance useful attributes. I'm unlikely to slot my attacks for taunt but the Perfect Zinger acc/rech IO costs a tenth of the same thing from a melee set.
