Quote:Hmm. Thanks. I think I read some reviews on that Asus one. I hear it has a lot of good value for the price. Basically the best you can get for that price range.Well in that case ... well there are these four. All are Intel quad cores with the fastest laptop GPUs from either ATI or nVidia, 7200RPM drives and at least 4GB of memory.
I do know that a few people here have the Asus one. -
Quote:Well I am looking to get a decent gaming laptop. I'd like it to be able to handle CoH with many ultra settings on.I paid $500 for my laptop, which I play CoH on, altho with the water effects off. Here's one able to handle it with the water effects on, for under $900:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834157298
I also wouldn't mind it being able to handle a few other games I am playing like New Vegas. -
Hey Hey
I am looking to buy a gaming laptop. Almost all my experience lies in desktops however. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I can't spend more than 1600 or so.
I am hoping to find something that can at least run CoH at good settings and be gaming capable for other things as well.
Is it impossible at that price? -
Yeah, just did it last night. Blew through it even on high difficulty. A very fun TF. I wish all TFs only required 3 or 4 to start like CoV. Nice TF though. However EDITED FOR SPOILERS used a lot in I17.
-
Is it possible to beat this TF with only four?
-
Are the missions in both parts of the new Positron TF new? Or are they just the exact same ones from the first one, just rehashed?
I am curious because I was thinking about doing part 1 tonight if it was actually new. -

Crossfire or SLI does actual very little to boost frame rates:
This might help you:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...lock,2625.html - crossfire provides depth to play games at reasonable framerates at high resolution.
If you play them at a lower resolution a single card is more than adequate. -
If I crossfired two of them together, would it provide a notable improvement?

Quote:I more or less built the same rig you had. Although I got the XFX 5830 card. I ended up with the i7 920 and a more expensive asus board. You rang.
Currently not excited by nVidia's offerings. They are still charging a premium for PhysX support. Add to that the fact the GTX 4xx line are horrible power hogs, that they have a huge gap in their lineup between the GTX 260 and the GTX 470, in both price and performance (GTX 465 is supposedly on it's way), it makes the basic HD 5850 a best buy anyway you slice it.
CPU wise I agree with you. Intel simply has the fastest CPUs on the market. The i5-750 quad performs almost as well as AMD's top offerings and most of Intel's older socket 775 quads. And that's the low end i5/i7 quad, they only get better from there.
I am rather surprised at the lack of performance I get though.
I have a computer with a GTX 260 and much older parts but it seems to run just as fast. -
Quote:Oh, nice. Do the 10.5s fix a lot of issues?First: go back to 10.1. 10.2 and 10.3 have issues with Ultra Mode.
Second: if you can't install 10.4 on the HD 5830, FILE A BUG REPORT: http://www.amd.com/us/CatalystCrewSurvey

Also: 10.5 is out now. http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx -
Thats right. I do have FSAA on. I'll have to try without it. Unfortunately, I can't even update the drivers. If I use the newest ATI drivers, my graphics card doesn't get detected at all and I can't run any games with it.
I had to keep downgrading until I got to the 10.2 drivers. They were the only ones that would work. -
Using an HD 5830 ATI card, if I turn on ANY ambient occlusion at all, I get little black boxes around objects, especially those far from view. I need to keep it disabled at all times. I also get some rather funky effects in water.
Another strange thing is that whenever I update settings, even to ones that my computer can easily run, the game drops down to 1-2 FPS until I restart, then runs fine.
Anyone run into something similar or have an idea? -
My computer can't handle I17 Ultra Mode, at least the ambient occlusion aspect of it. If I turn it on even on the lowest, my FPS drops by 25-30. I was wondering what I should replace on my system to make the most difference. Relevent parts in my system now are...

So what is slowing down my system the most? Thanks in advance for anyone who takes the time to answer. I appreciate it.
Also for anyone who replied to my other post about building a rig, I should have said that was actually for a friend of mine. I am trying to avoid replacing my whole rig if I can. -
Quote:I guess I've always leaned towards Nvidia because I had bad experiences with some old ATI cards of mine. I haven't used any since my ATI X850. It also had a lot of issues with CoH at the time, which was the majority of what I played. That and I've been using a GTX 260 and love it. Best bang for my buck I've ever had and no issues. You rang.

Do you really recommend going ATI as well? I am torn between spending the money on an I7 capable MB, and the ensuing cost of DDR3 ram and all that, instead of just getting a Core 2 Quad or something. -
I have 1300 dollars to build a new gaming rig and since there are more than a few tech experts here, I thought I'd ask if anyone had any advice.
I am leaning towards Nvidia graphics card and intel cpu. I only need to build the basic core system. I already have all the peripherals and monitor and all that. I already have 2 systems in mind built in wish list on Newegg but I wanted to get some advice here as well. -
While your at it. All those enemies with attacks that do damage, they kind of hurt. Think you could remove them and give them foam bats instead?
Thanks!
(Vote NO for enemies being nerfed to the point of providing no challenge) -

Here's an idea I like. You have to option of setting base raids to schedule or anytime. The catch is that the number of base raiders at an anytime raid can only be less than or equal to the number of base defenders online at the time. So if there's only 1 member of the SG online, only 1 attacker is allowed in the base, and a tell is sent to the defender, wherever he is that his base is being raided and to come at once, ( with a click box that will automatically teleport him to the base wherever he is.)
Doesn't matter if the raider is level 50 and the defender is level 10, that's the chance you take when you set it to anytime.

I like it! -
Wow, talk about giving us all the raw data straight out, eh Statesmen?
Its a little hard to anylize, but one thing I noticed is that you used spines as your primary for all of them. Its easy to see why it took so many minions to take them out, assuming you are attacking. Seeing as how Spines wreck minions with ease.
It seems that regen isnt that overpowered to me, compared to the other secondaries. Poor Dark Armor is still dead last! -

Still confused about one point: if (for example) you've got a three person team, each person on the team is 400' away from each other person, and person X defeats a bad guy -- does person X get "solo XP" or XP for being on a 3 person team?
[/ QUOTE ]
He'd get XP with the 3 person team multiplier...BUT that XP would still be divided appropriately between each teammate. The others, however, wouldn't receive their shares.
[/ QUOTE ]
So if your soloing some enemies while you wait for your team, or for whatever reason are killing enemies in a seperate area while in a team. You'll get your exp divided up but it wont go anywhere, just detract from your share. Okkaaaay. -
Yep, Striga is easily one of the best zones in the entire game. I didnt even use travel powers get to my missions in that zone. I would prefer to run through and enjoy all the craziness thats in the zone. battling my way forward.
Unfortunetely, Striga came too late for my main, but all my alts enjoyed it! -
I disagree with the boss changes since they were pathetically easy before. It was nice actually having a challenge sometimes. Granted, I am a scrapper so I am sure this is better for all the weaker classes.
