  1. I was trying to cover all the blaster secondary powersets. I already had a recently made Archery/Dark corruptor and I just made AR/Traps. One of my blasters is now DP/Dark. So I am set.

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  2. Thanks. I may go ahead and take taunt at 38 instead of gfs. But I apprreciate the response.

    Lewis
  3. I wish the sun would stay off. Or that I could pay 800 points to always get halloween foes from doors for characters of any level.

    Lewis
  4. Actually I think I have changed my mind. I think I may drop Greater Fire Sword. I hate to, but if I can live with my attack chain at level 36-37, then I will take taunt instead and slot perfect zingers to retain the recharge. That will give me a spare slot since I will only need 4 slots (iirc) to hit the 5%.

    Thanks,

    Lewis

  5. Thanks for the additional replies.

I wont drop any of the fire swords. I made the character specifically because I wanted all 3 fire sword powers. I have played a /Fire tanker before (invuln/fire to 50) and I am fine with all of them. I tried to qualify my original post because I figured someone would tell me to drop greater fire sword. I would love to drop boxing, but oh well. I would consider dropping scorch, despite the fact that it is pretty nice, but as a tanker, I cant.

As for health bonuses, I wasnt even aware I was slotting any. In which sets? I wasnt really trying to minmax, other than softcapping and recharge. If there are some duplicate hit point bonuses, rest assured that I was not even slotting for 1, much less 5 or more. I probably picked some stuff because it was all pretty and/or symmetrical or harmonious in Mids' planner.

I do see the point about taunt. I do like taunt. I always try to take it. But I feel foolish skipping hibernate. Maybe I should just skip Fireball ..... Nah.

Anyway, I guess I will just decide at level 32.

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  6. Well, I kinda wanted the nudge towards global recharge from my Fire Blast.

Hmm. Well, I have quite a few levels yet before I have to decide, I suppose. I'm level 5.

    Lewis
  7. Thanks for the reply. That's the way I was leaning. I just wasn't sure if there was a compelling reason to lean the other way.

  8. All,

I am planning an Ice/Fire tanker, and I have a build I like, but I can't decide whether to go with Taunt or Hibernate.

Now, I think I've heard people say that its good to have both, because you can activate Taunt, Hibernate, and very often still have aggro (from Taunt) when you come out of Hibernate mode. However, I am happy with my build and I don't have the luxury of both. I want to keep all my other powers and attacks. I am also not likely to be doing any hardcore tanking on my character. I just like the power-sets. I'll be soloing or playing on small & medium teams with friends.

So with that in mind .... Taunt vs. Hibernate?

    Thanks,

    Lewis

P.S. Here is the build for reference.

  9. OK, the deed is done. I have made the following choices. All but the last have been made:

    Rad/Fire ... Cosmic Strike
    DP/Dark ... Worm Slayer
    Energy/Dev ... Beta Strike
    Fire/Electric ... Wild Magic
    Sonic/Mental ... Slender Siren
    Psy/Energy ... (not made yet)

Thanks for the suggestions. Some advice I took, some I didn't, but I appreciate everyone taking time to reply.

  10. All,

After thinking about the options and the comments here, this is where I am at.

I want to do Rad/Fire for sure and DualPistol/Dark. So those are set.

I dont want Assault Rifle, Archery, Beam Weapons, Ice or Electric as a primary. I just made an archery/dark medusa and a beam/time bounty hunter recently. I already have ice/ice at 50. I am planning assaultRifle/traps soon. Electric blast is a set I dont want to repeat (i have a level 50 dark/elec defender). I also want to avoid primary repeats within this project.

That leaves me with the secondaries of elec, energy, devices and mental. My available primaries are (based on the above paragraph) energy blast, fire blast, psychic blast, and sonic blast.

Any suggestions on pairings for the remainder?

I see fire/mm recommended often. I could do that. But sonic/mm tempts me by being different, and sonic/electric feels thematic. I want to avoid fire/dev and fire/energy since I did those long ago (and deleted during ED or GDN). I want to avoid psi/dev since I have a traps/psi defender. Also, I want to avoid matching primary and secondary at this point.

I like the idea of Energy/Devices just for wackiness. Psy/energy seems like it would look cool as a combo visually. Fire/elec also seems juicy visually. Fire/mm or Sonic/mm seem interesting. I dunno.

Any advice on (fire, psy, son, energy) / (elec, energy, mental, devices)? I may or may not follow any specific advice, but I want to listen to suggestions in the hopes that they are convincing.
  11. Yeah, energy/fire is rough. I used to have one back in the day. He was modeled conceptually after the cosmic minions of a well known planet eater, what with all the cosmic energy and cosmic weapons. I always wish I had stuck with him.

Maybe I should just go with all the blasters I used to have that I deleted. When ED came along, I got irritated snd deleted lots of characters. I had energy/fire, fire/energy, and elec/devices. Heh. I cant remember what I paired with electric. So I could perhaps do rad/elec and dp/dark. Tho in a way I kinda wanted to make AR/traps and DP/Storm, so I might not make either of those sets as blasters.

Anyway, again, I will probably delay making any until early-mid november. Here is to hoping they let us buy a 5th page lf characters someday. Across my 3 accounts I only have 14 slots left (tho I have placeholdet slots for all the other AT proliferations I want and for new powersets that are coming). So this project would eat a big chunk of that.

Ah well. Thanks for all the responses!

    Lewis
  12. Autumnal sounds kinda dumb. I feel like there are already so many ways to combine fire and ice as a Dominator already. Ice/fire/fire, ice/fire/ice, fire/fire/ice, fire/ice/ice. Now dual wielding fire and ice looks neat. And since control sets are my thing, I will feel obligated to make one. But wow. Blah. Hate the name.

But even if I hate the set, I will buy it to support the game.

    Lewis
  13. Thanks for the replies everyone. I will think about the different synergies suggested and pick out a few combos. I prob wont pick until after Halloween event is over but I will do so after that.

Holy wow! I would pay $10 for that. Of course, I am a terrible negotiator. But I want this now! I am already dreading the slog of crossing over some characters for powers.

  15. Yeah I hate this so much.

My friends and I stopped running tips in Atlas because its a pain. Which is too bad because its fun otherwise in Atlas these days with all the free players. I would love to check out costumes and chat in local but that stupid grey team bug (or feature?) is awful. We went back to PI.

    SJ/Stone Brute

So now that some time has passed, how are all of your streetJustice/stone brutes working?

Any updates? I am considering one.

    Lewis
  17. I just made SR/MA, simply because I had a concept of an urban street monk who is calm, cool and collected in a fight (i.e a Tanker).

I am also considering Ice/Fire, since I dont have an ice tank, and I have thought about making ice/fire many times in the past but never did.

    Lewis
  18. UnicyclePeon

    So...Ice Armor

Yeah, I am tempted by ice/fire. I've come close to making one several times. And in a way I almost want to suck it up and make my ice/SS for the 4th or 5th time. But at least in the case of ice/SS, I know that the very second Brutes get Ice armor, I would delete and reroll as SS/Ice. Or if scrappers got both a modified SS and they got ice armor, I might do that.

But the ice/fire tank could be the way to go. I do love that fire melee for tankers offers Combustion.

Thanks for the replies, hope my questions fell somewhat within the scope of the OP ... in that I have a high interest in Ice armor.

    Lewis
  19. All,

Against my better judgement I have decided to at least have characters with every non-VEAT/HEAT powerset in the game (Veats and Heats are too thematically locked to the lore, and I hate them). I dont have to get these characters to 50 but I would like to have experience with all the powersets to some degree. AT doesnt specifically matter.

When looking at what I lacked, I realized that I lack ice armor, ice melee, stone armor, ninja blade, ninjitsu, assault rifle, dual pistols, and ... every blaster secondary other than /Ice (I have a level 50 Ice/Ice blaster).

So if I decide to take the train to crazyville and make the "rest" of the characters I "need" then I believe I will need to have six blasters. At least I believe there are seven blaster secondaries. Other than Ice, which I have, I see fire, elec, energy, dark, mental, and devices. Have I missed any secondaries?

    So, I see 3 approaches:

    1) do themed pairs. Fire/fire. Elec/elec. Dark/dark. Psy/mental. Energy/energy. DP/devices.

    2) min-max. In this case, I want your opinions on which primaries are "best" for whatever reason. Primary repeats are ok, even if you say "fire for all because its uber".

    3) Make Ice/ my "thing". This is my favored option since I have done this with other ATs. I have every permutation of fire control, as an example. So in this case, I would make ice/fire, ice/elec, ice/energy, ice/dark, ice/mental and ice/devices.

So, got any suggestions for me? Well other than "get a life"?

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  20. UnicyclePeon

    So...Ice Armor

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate them.

I have to think about it. I really just want to hold out hope for ice armor and ice melee for brutes. I would do SS/IceArmor and IceMelee/SR probably.

I also discovered/remembered I deleted my old level 50 fire/ice tanker so I "need" an Ice Melee character too but I had already got a shield/ice tanker to 33 or so but found the tanker speed just a bit slow. So I "should" do ice/ice tanker but it would drive me nuts I am guessing.

Just gotta hope for proliferation. Or else to ice/stjustice.

    Lewis
  21. UnicyclePeon

    So...Ice Armor

What is a good secondary to pair with Ice Armor?

In the past I got Ice/SS up to level 40 a few times but I hated the old Rage crash, and hated the new one more. Still do. So I deleted a level 35-40 Ice/SS tanker at least 3 times. Later I got used to the Rage crash and so now I am sure I *could* do Ice/SS again, but I am kinda holding out hope that Brutes will get Ice Armor. I have become accustomed to Brute damage, and conceptually he should have been a Brute all along.

But that leaves me realizing I dont have an Ice Armor character. So I am wondering about a good sevondary for it that has good damage other than Super Strength.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  22. I like Ice/Ice. Decent single target, decent AoE, holds for exotic sitiations, knockdown patches and slows for safety. Can be range capped. Has one of the more intriguing nukes. Very versatile.

    Lewis
  23. UnicyclePeon

    Nasty build

For me, it is also Spines/Dark. Does nasty things to your eyes, nasty things to the bad guys, and nasty things to your endurance bar.

    Nasty.

    Lewis
  24. I have a level 50 Illusion/Empathy character who makes a great all around teaming character who has good heals and decent buffs. Illusion has some great tools for keeping the party safe and for allowing you to heal others in relative safety.

I suspect that an Illusion/Thermal controller would be even better.

But as others have said, Thermal, Empathy snd Pain are good sets for it.
