  1. I've done this NET framework reinstall once already so I want to make sure I'm getting this right. My computer currently has NET Framework 3.5. I tried following the directions last time and I just got 3.5 again. Do I need to uninstall that and purposely install 2.0? Does my program list need to say 2.0, not 3.5?

Also, just to make sure this is the right issue, I have Guild Wars on the NCSoft Launcher and I have no problems with that game.
  2. Nice. Is there anything I can do about that? Get in there and tinker with it?
  3. Here's the first part of my dxdiag. Let me know if the rest of it (DirectShow Filters)

  4. Yes to all that, except waiting for the little guy to quit dancing. I just ran it again and after 5 minutes he's still going. I assumed that because it said it would time out after 60 seconds it was done.

Edit: I waited and after a long time it stopped. Nothing on clipboard. Should I just do a normal dxdiag?
  5. I haven't been able to paste anything to notepad. I found out how to find clipboard in Vista - it's in Word -> Home -> Left hand side under paste. Nothing appears there when I run CoH Helper.

Although I reinstalled my .NET Framework I'm wondering if that's still the issue? I have 3.5 SP1 listed.
  6. Where is the clipboard? I have two windows, one is the main CoH Helper window with the "Forum Output" option, and the other is the "Loading System Info" one with the dancing alien. Neither gives me the option to go to a clipboard. The only time I get that option is when I hit details after the initial failure.
  7. Yes, that first part is from CoH Helper. After it says "Loading System Info. Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

If I hit continue it just runs and nothing happens. If I hit Details it shows me that log.

I followed instructions for .NET framework, and I have MSXL. I uninstalled both the launcher and the game and still the same error. I repaired multiple times.

    Not sure whats wrong.
  8. I'm getting an error when trying to run the game from the launcher. LoadLibrary with error 126: The specified module could not be found.

As suggested by who will soon be my hero, Aggelakis, I ran CoH Helper and then HiJack This. Here are the logs:

    Help!
  9. Multiple repairs. Still the error 126 message.
  10. Nice, trying that now.
  11. New problem. It's all downloaded, but when I hit Play Now it crashes with the message:

"The game failed to start on the last attempt.

Current system requirements are blah blah (stuff about graphics cards. My card is new and updated).

Would you like to try the game's safe mode?"

    I click Yes.

    Then it says:

    "Error

LoadLibrary with error 126: The specified module could not be found."

    Suggestions?
  12. LATEST EDIT: New problem! See latest post.

EDIT: I fixed it! Just deleted all the launcher folders and retried in different locations. Downloading now. Booya.

I just decided to get back in for old times sake, but am having trouble downloading the game. Here is the error message I get:

    Error Code: 5 (RepairPatchNotFound):
There is not a repair patch for version : '1.6.6.0'.
The patch servers are most likely in the process of being updated.
Please try again in a few minutes.

Once the NCSoft patcher is up then it gives me this message:
The install information could not be loaded. Please try again in a few minutes.

    Suggestions?

    With IO’s:

    lvl 25 Titanium Coating: Res/End
    lvl 45 common: Resx2
    --------------------
    20% End, 61% Res (56% w/ED).

    [/ QUOTE ]

That adds up to be 53% resistance doesn't it? A lvl 30 Titanium Coating: Res/End is 13% res, 21% end.

What does that 3% mean in loss of total resistance?
  14. How does this jump jet compare to the jump jet you get in CoV mayhem missions? Totally different?
  15. One of the best guides I have ever read. You gave your opinions and advice yet remained objective enough by providing other points of view and data to allow others to make their own decisions.

Fabulous. What is the step above a guide? This "guide" deserves it's own category.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Yes during the start of the battle you should single out the boss. But when your team starts taking damage you should have the common sense not to stay target locked and peel for them. What is so hard to understand?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The concept itself is not hard to understand. Your description of the concept in your guide could be hard to understand, especially for a beginning tanker.

Don't be offended, I am just offering a suggestion that you could do a little editting to make this more understandable to a noob. When I read it I could see a beginning tanker saying to himself, "Wait he says to concentrate on the Boss, but then he says NOT to get fixated?"

    It was just a suggestion.

Maybe a rewording is needed. If you are constantly switching targets as you suggest you aren't concentrating on the boss. Maybe you could say, "Always keep your eye on the boss, even when switching targets." Or "Concentrate on the Boss until you have his undivided attention, then switch your focus to getting all the other baddies to hate you too by cycling through targets."

And I do agree with you about switching targets. A scrapper might be a better assist target, because they are allowed/supposed to get scrapper-lock and should be killing bosses. But IMO a tank needs to be switching targets often in order to make sure he has all the baddies attention. Auras work great, but aren't infallible.
  17. It seems backwards to me. If the worry is neutralizing an AV by forcing him to attack an easily kept standing tank, then isn't the "one button push taunt" the wrong way to deal with that worry?! All you have to do is groan and wiggle your fingers! Might as make a "I win!" macro: /macro I Win! "local Die Sucka!$$powexec_name taunt"

It should have something to do with gauntlet building magnitude. Maybe a bit like fury for brutes. That would make it more realistic, prevent easily neutralizing AVs, and allow all tanks to do their jobs. That is of course just off the top of my head, but it still sounds better than the current hoopty method.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
    Concentrate on that Boss.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]
DO NOT get fixated on one target for the entire battle.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I could see how people would find this confusing.
  19. How about Ice Patch from Ice Melee? Does it have a taunt effect?

Also, someone said the other day that if you heal a tanker they lose some of their aggro. This isn't true is it? I have a feeling they are confusing us with WoW.

Edit: Forgot. How about the lowbie attack you get which varies by origin? Does it have a taunt effect too?
  20. Thanks for such a quick reply. You da man.
  21. Thank you for this guide, I am thinking of going the scary route of not taking a travel power, and it really helps.

I am thinking of going swift, hurdle, quickness and of course sprint. From what I gathered in this guide it is best to slot hurdle first, then sprint, for pure travel purposes. My only question is regarding this quote:

    [ QUOTE ]
Jumping in CoH doesn't follow the laws of physics, so it may not stack well with Sprint or Swift. You may want to actually avoid them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am a bit confused. Do you mean that having swift and sprint on while jumping could slow you down?

I could understand avoiding swift because of a tight build, but why wouldn't you turn on sprint?

Are you saying that while jumping for travel swift and sprint do not add to your overall speed?
  22. I made a post earlier in the player questions forum about the current wussiness of the respec missions (Faulty builds necessitating an easier mission makes this a poor example, I understand). But in general, screw that! Give us some impossible missions! A room filled with so many baddies you look at it and laugh. "That is absolutley, outrageously ridiculus!", you say. Ideally, based on teamwork and skill, independant of powerbuilds, maybe one team in 50 can beat it. Excellent!!

We are privileged to operate within a system that allows such a mission to exist without any camping or itemization. Pure bragging rights, a feeling of accomplishment, and maybe some righteous xp are the rewards. Bragging rights and feeling of accomplishment?... Yes, I understand this may sound silly and machismo, but hey, we are playing in a world OF silliness and machismo. We should embrace it, perhaps?

How does this relate to the OP's statement? However the challenge is assigned, 3 +0 minion cons, or 3 +3 cons, a hero should be given the opportunity (and encouraged to reach for that opportunity) to rise above the average and blow the status quo out of the water. Average expectations? Maybe it is beneficial to give me limits. I will feel heroic when I breach those limits.

It's 4am, I feel I may be drifting from the point, and worry that I am stating (or overlooking) the obvious... I can only hope this post makes a fraction of the sense it was designed to... That is my caveat.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
It is time to stop worrying about balance for a while, to stop worrying about someone being slightly overpowered. it is time to bring in some of the classic feeling of this game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree. Who cares about stupid minions? You're not supposed to care about them, they're minions! Give me some stories. Give me crazy NPCs that are involved in missions. Give me more AVs and elite bosses. Give me story archs that give me loads of xp and eliminate the feeling of the grind.

TFs are one thing, but in my opinion are often too long, people can't always commit that kind of time.

    [ QUOTE ]
the grind comes from the lack of new toys from lvl 32 on(mostly, worse for some sets then others). it comes from no new paths openiing for your fleshed out hero build, no new style of missions, no different type of challenge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree here too. In my experience it begins to take a lot longer to level around mid 30's, with not a whole lot to look forward to. I have been around since the beginning, and never gotten to 50. Why? Because it starts to feel like a chore.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Why would I want someone in my group who sucks my endurance every time they use a power?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because they are using that end to make the group arrest faster and/or stay alive, and probably using it more efficiently than you.
With an RA (or its cousin AM) in the group who cares? They may have their own version of RA...
