Ultra mode and the zone updates have shown that they can do that without making a new game. Ultra mode and the zone updates have also shown that there's a significant portion of the user base that's running the game on TI-86s and wouldn't be able to play a new game with newly high system requirements.

I have no idea if it was as successful as they projected, but Freedom has already significantly increased this game's revenue. In response to that they've been developing content for this game at a rate unlike any previous point in its existence. To repeat: why, then, would they dump a large amount of money into developing the same thing but with less content that fewer people could play in a now-more saturated market?
A fair question. I would agree that enough content is a huge danger in a new game.

But are you seriously suggesting once a game is made you are all done forever? no need to make new games again?

I guess pong was all we ever needed!

But, joking aside, reasons for COH2, in my opinion:

Graphics. I happen to like COH's graphics, but they are becoming dated.

Engine limitations. They can't really do destructable environments, and that is something a super hero game should have.

Freshness. Despite how much I love COH, the same thing over a long time loses its shine.
  2. I would guess that the reason they are not doing COH 2 is that whoever is paying for it thinks they have to use a particular genre to make more money. Fantasy or SciFI I would think.

Of course, they might just be excited over whatever this new Ip is, but I want COH2.

I have paid a monthly fee on two accounts for many years to support first cryptic, and now paragon. Even when I had no time to play I gladly paid monthly to give them more money to work with.

But I fear that if this 'new ip' is not my cup of tea I will have to move on, and it makes me sad.
  3. I know I am being overly negative, but it makes me sad that they are not doing COH2.

I especially can't get excited without knowing what the 'NewIP' is.

    *sigh* DC game is meh....

Marvel game is not going to let you create a character....blech

    I really want COH2.

True. So if Hawkeye ever did actually miss a shot with his bow....

He could just hold up a picture of Thor, Ironman, and Hulk and the enemy would flee in horror. If they are smart.

No disrespect to Captain America and Black Widow; they are great but just are not particularly scary.
  5. I was thinking to use snowstorm to keep my victims from moving away too quickly. I imagine an area immobilize is better but will snowstorm do the job?
  6. Thanks again!

I think I will try a Blueside Corrupter, Fire/Storm and Power Mastery looks good. I figure Assault would be good, and Hasten.

My experience with enhancements is oldschool SO's, so I will have to learn about how that all works now.
  7. Thanks!

I might go blueside then. I was leaning toward a Corruptor for the scourge ability, but what would be the argument for a Defender?

The high point for me was the portrayal of the Green Men, almost exactly as I had imagined them. I understand the director was primarily an animation guy, so I suppose this makes sense.

The low point was the performance of the actor who portrayed John Carter. Aside from his just being rather wooden, you know something's off when a character who proclaims himself a Virginian at every possible opportunity is the only character in a scene without a Southern accent. Again, with a director unused to working with live actors, this, too, makes sense.

A disappointing but extremely necessary point to make the movie work were the changes to the villains, Carter's transportation to Mars, and even Carter's backstory. I can't imagine a film audience, or even a literary audience, for that matter, accepting these things in the form Burroughs wrote them originally (villains as almost unnoticeable characters, totally unexplained, and being a mysteriously ageless soldier, respectively, for those who don't know the novels). Story conventions have just changed too much over the past century. I was disappointed to lose the original version here, but I thought the changes were handled well.

On the last point, (the literary) Carter's unexplained agelessness, my personal pet theory has always been that Carter is, in fact, the basis for the legends of the god Mars himself. Burroughs never gives any hint of having even thought of this, let alone written it into a story, but I still enjoy the idea. What do you think?
John Carter may in fact BE Mars. Your theory works very well.

In the books as I recall, John Carter remembers fighting in wars before the civil war, and that implies he is imortal.

John Carter is the very archetype of the eternal warrior, god of war; etc...

    It's a great explanation.
  9. Hello,

I recently had the urge to make a Rain of Fire Freezing Rain corruptor.

My questions are if the double rains are actually as good as they seem in my head or not. Fun factor is important here as well.

My other question is if there are places redside that are packed full of enemies like perez park on blueside?

    All advice welcome!

Take this with a grain of salt though since I grew up reading Burroughs and have probably read the mars series 10 times at least.

As a fan of the series though I have to say they did a wonderful job of adapting it.

    My thoughts exactly!

Any blaster primary with decent AoE can do the same in about 30 seconds but you face ALL the return fire.

Its a trade off of 4 times longer for near complete safety. With IOs and/or inspirations you can achieve near perfect safety with the second case and get the job done in 30 seconds.

No amount of IOs and inspirations can make devices do 1600 damage in 30 seconds because of recharge time, animation time, and interrupt time + Time Bomb's Delay.

Now if you look at all that correctly you can surmise that as long as you play ??/devices with a primary that has good AoE (like Fire) you can almost completely ignore your secondary. Which you can. You can play Fire/Devices and only ever use Web grenade which you have to take and Caltrops to keep the baddies out of melee range and do just fine.

I have a limited feel for devices after playing an energy/devices blaster and I tried very hard to make effective use of timebomb when teamed and it seemed impossible. Trip mine was not so bad.
If only there was a respec for powersets.

    So NOT CoH 2.

Now, I have to think twice about dumping any more of my money at the market, because despite the apparent wild success of CoH:Freedom, maybe I begin to wonder that not all of my money is going to support CoH, or even to help develop a game I'd want.

So until they come clean about their big secret project, or announce their intent to develop CoH 2, I'll be hard pressed to open my wallet any more.

    .
I agree. I am as loyal a fan of CoH as you will find, and I would be far more 'excited' about CoH2 than 'generic IP game'

Imagine CoH2 with updated graphics, more environmental destruction and interaction, more powers with as free a selection as is practical. Add in on my wish list more emotes, fancy powers like growth and shapechange, and epic power special effects.

I would pay them $30 a month for that.
  13. [QUOTE=Miladys_Knight;4146240]What if it took 3 days of set up time to insta-gib the zone? Still overpowered then?

No. Three days would make any power useless. I was not suggesting an increase on timb bombs setup time. Can you expain your point? I don't understand how it relates to what I posted. I am probably just being clueless. Not saying you are wrong, I just need clarification.

You make a good point; power creep can be adanger.

But....if Snipes are not doing enough damage in the first place, boosting the damage is a fix, not a power creep.

Personally? I like snipes just fine the way they are, long activation times and all (also a datamine point).
I love Snipes but the fact is they are not an efficient power pick at the current damage level. And that makes me cry.

No one is likely to use them as their only attack and stay permanently at a safe range as that would make leveling slower than ??/dev.

This. especially the damage increase. Not sure you even need the recharge increase.

In what perfect world is this useful? Something that does moderate aoe damage with the same recharge that can be used instantly would be 1 million times as useful.
If Time bomb Insta-gibbed the entire zone it would be overpowered.
My point being that the problem is the 'formula' used to balance powers.
Things like damage, area of effect, etc... are all 'balanced out'
But the formula is incomplete or inapplicable in some cases.
Time bomb would possibly be useful if it had a massive damage increase, or a huge epic area of effect or something.

Timb bomb is trapped in 'outdated formula land'

    That's my theory anyway
  18. Someone said CoH2

    I want it.
  19. For anyone that has not seen this early promo vidio for CoH waaay back at the beginning.

    I see your point.
  21. I will always be nostagic for the 'what could have been'

If my memory is any good, the Alpha version of CoH had no Archetypes, and you just picked any two powersets as primary secondary.

I assume that was changed because everyone would have taken Fireblast and Invulnerabilty

    But the idea was awesome.

That being said, I love how much proliferation has been done.
  22. Wouldn't replacing Rage with Buildup be fairly simple?

Or if Rage was 'too good' for a scrapper, just make rage a little weaker.

  24. This might sound silly, but I actually have a friend who says he will not return to CoH untill scrappers get super strength.
