I wasn't here for the first year. I never knew the game existed. For that matter, I never even heard of an MMO prior to this one. I didn't even realize that there were going to be humans behind other characters in the game until I first arrived in Atlas.
All that aside, I got into badges, and before I left the game in '06, I was one of the leading badge getters, maybe 3rd place on the old Badge-Hunter site on my server. (Liberty)
There were some badges I had to accept that I just couldn't get. Bug Hunter - well, that one was just not likely going to drop in my lap, 5th column gladiator and 1st year anniversary badge.
Even though I don't have the badge, I fully understand why it would really reek if I was able to get it. The players that do have those are special. They chose to sign up for an unknown game. It could have been a gift, or it could have been something they chose to do, but that doesn't matter. They contributed some money in the early goings, and they are now an elite class. And this is really a good thing. When I see someone with one of those badges, I know that this player is one who understands that leveling up wasn't always this easy. They typically play very well because they've been playing for a long time. They know how to pull, other nifty tactics and can usually tell just from team make-up whether or not the team will succeed.
Sure, I'd like those badges, but if I just bought into this game today, even though I was only 8 when the game came out and couldn't have been expected to be able to play back then, and it's not my fault I couldn't afford 15 bucks a month, why on earth would I think I should be able to get those badges?
The only real fair way to award those badges retro-actively is to suffer through the many negatives that the beginning players suffered through. Initially, the game didn't even have badges. Imagine being a player from day 1, through Beta. All of a sudden, this whipper snapper who'd only signed up 11 months after release has badges and you don't!
Trust me, I do want those badges, but - at what price? I think it would damage the morale of a very important segment of the game population, and that's just not worth any price. -
May the good Lord bless you, Fitz. I'm almost always smiling after I read your posts.
As far as acting our age goes... I'm sad to say, if I did that, I'd be out doing something constructive instead of playing the game.
Camo raises a good point about zone caps and such. I guess for me, I just wish the folks looking to fill their tf would wait a few moments before trying to do so - again, that's just me. I'm an oddball about things sometimes. -
Thanks for passing that word on, Hazy. That gives me the motivation to get some sleep now rather than sleep through it.

Yes. As far as I can recall, there's supposed to be a raid tonight (1-21-11) at 9pm Eastern and Sunday at 9pm Eastern.
Who's leading, I couldn't say. But I'm sure someone will step up. -
Apparently, the community is already split. While I do enjoy the banter and teaming with a few of the folks on Liberty, there are some who challenge my enjoyment.
That's not to say I'm not a challenge to others, (in fact, I'm pretty sure I've cramped some play styles) but there just won't be "unity" on Liberty. Ever. I hate to say such things.
Let's say Liberty has 400 active players. If those same 400 players joined 1 global channel. Would the community be united? No. People using the same channel does not unite them.
Unity, in my opinion, is more about respect for the entire server's player base. For example, if I know there's an MSR happening this Friday night, being one who is in a union with the community, I don't try to start a CoP, Hami Raid, or even an ITF during the MSR. I head to RWZ and help. How many times have I seen an announcement on one of the global channels for a server event like Hami or MSR and the next line seen a comment that someone is looking for 4 more players for a task force. All on the same channel!
It is my opinion, that if everyone looked at Liberty like one giant SG/VG, then there would be more of a sense of unity. Treat the player that you don't know, or maybe the one you don't care for just like an SG friend, and that would go farther to create unity than a single global channel for badges, teaming and tfs. Take everyone off of /gignore. Friend everyone you come across. (until you run out of space. Max is 100 last time I checked.)
The purpose behind having one large channel instead of two or three or four smaller ones is that information about raids and such would be on a more widespread basis. Events that might only get 30 players to attend might get a few more.
So, please, chime in - what's your definition of "server unity"? -
We were passing this back and forth on LB earlier this week. I rolled the toon "General Dynamics" just to see if it was available. For you military folks, you should be familiar with the name.
Now, I'm off to delete him, lest he get generic'd for copyright infringement. -
That idea is too ridiculous to entertain. What was I thinking?
-
Ok, before we get complacent, when is the next raid?
I had a good bit of lag at the end - how close were we to blowing it, and have we tried to just blow through Hami without taking out any mitos - or is that idea just too ridiculous to entertain? -
-
In a word, no.
But, farming has slightly different meanings for different people.
If by farming, you mean doing the same missions over and over, sure, that's still being done.
If by farming you mean defeating all the Cim Traitors just for the extra chance at a shard or a purple recipe, sure - that happens too.
If by farming you mean the ceaseless broadcasting in Atlas "AE Mish team LFM, running +4/8 Monkeyz, PST", I never saw that anywhere except on Freedom. -
Well, the CoP is not my favorite event - but, if it will help anyone, I've got a raid portal in my base, and I can lead a team for this. My problem is my work schedule. Most of the times that many of you are available and willing, I'm either sleeping or working.
I could do one Monday night, 11:00 pm Eastern. (or later)
That's about the only time I can be sure I won't get called into work.
They only take an hour - and about an hour to form.
It can be challenging getting 24 people to gather in the same place at the same time, committed for an hour.
I do think it would be a good idea for everyone involved to get these three temp powers:
Rescuscitator (Ally)
Ring of light (the 8 day self res temp power from Pocket D)
Envenomed Dagger
I don't think there needs to be that much focus on "balancing" the teams, but there does need to be several debuffers. But, better to go with what works. -
I have just one question. Who's going to count the bullets? Don't let me find out it was only a 476,243 bullet ITF. 'Cause then yer gonna have to run it twice.

/begin rant
I must be missing something. I was thinking that a brute should be (damage dealing aside) a little less survivable than a tank, but more survivable than a scrapper.
Am I expecting too much from my Brute?
Is there some self-heal that I'm missing? I just don't understand why anyone would play a kin/shield brute - or /shield at all - the defense is about the same as a purple insp. The resist about the same as an orange insp.
I guess I can understand why Brutes are a "villain" AT. I sure don't feel heroic playing one.
What am I missing?
/end rant -
If I don't have a level 2 Peacebringer, I'm sure I could roll one and get it to level 2 without too much difficulty. Did I understand that you're doing this on Justice server? When?

I'm a bit late to the thread, but if you're still giving:
@ukase rex
Heroes of the Beach
Liberty
I didn't give to the Child's Play; the mention of it reminded me of Chucky and his bride...I gave to Operation Gratitude instead. -
Quote:80! Impressive. I've got 80 also on my main atm.I keep my base storage stocked with the stuff for +recharge, grant invis, +lethal res, and +smash res.
I also have 2 bins dedicated to prototype elements and access bypasses.
Other than these items, I burn salvage at the empowerment stations creating w/e I happen to have the salvage for and I market the rest for 1 inf if I need the room to fill up my base storage. YAY 80 salvage slots!
I was just saving all the salvage that any of my toons would get - and if I had more than 10 of any 1 item, I'd take 10 out, and sell it in the median range of what people were paying for it. There are many diverse views on the marketing of CoH, so I'll keep my trap shut.
I thank all of you for your words. -
A few months ago, when I returned to the game, I decided to get a second account to aid in getting my alts invited to my sg, and because I was running low on slots on my preferred server.
Then, because I found myself always running out of room for salvage, I decided to make a second SG to stash even more salvage.
Now, I have found that logging on the alt just to access a piece of salvage being more of a pain to me than it's worth. A friend in game said that they sold all the common and only stashed the rare salvage. That hadn't occurred to me prior, but now that it's in my head, I figured I would ask the rest of you how you handle your salvage.
So, might some of you share how you use your second accounts to your advantage regarding salvage?
Thanks. -
Quote:Heh, I was in the service as well. I'll never forget an exchange of words I had with the Senior Drill Sergeant:That's why the government has spent thousands of dollars to train me Ukase. Gotta have those sharp eyes in my line of work.
Now where did all the grass go that used to be outside??
Sgt.: Private! Do you have any college under your belt, brain?!!
Me(PFC): Why, yes. Yes I do.
Sgt.: Well, get a freakin' refund!
I was always 11 up and 3 down. :P -
I suspect that a server merge is highly unlikely in the near future. However, should it ever occur, I expect that whoever had the toon named first would get dibs.
For example - I'm a 30 month vet.
Another player might be a 60 month vet, but if my toon was created and named before his, I win.
I think that would be the fairest way to go. And the loser would get a free rename or possibly, a free server transfer and keep the old name on a different merged server. -
My opinion, which counts for little in this regard, is that once a name is taken on any server, it should no longer be available to anyone else except the original account holder that has that name.

Holy smoking guns, Geronimo! I never even saw the hands gripping the bars!
DW, that's good stuff. Don't you dare put this stuff solely in the art section, 'cause I'd never see it there. Typically, I might say something like, "Meh, interesting. Let's see what foolishness is going on in the global channel thread." But, I'm not even thinking about that when there's cool stuff like this to see. Please keep it up!
