Quote:I'm lazy. It's only 2 trades or emails of 999,999,999. And this way they're both the same price even though I think Glad Armors are usually a bit more expensive. I am expecting the prices in general to go down as more people farm, or the farms get bigger. But for now, I'm offering a bargain.
So you're not too lazy to farm up hundreds of PVP IO's, but you're too lazy to sort through the piles of Infamy you get for them? TopDoc works in mysterious ways. -
Quote:I guess this just comes down to differing experiences, and bad luck in terms of league makeup. I've been on leagues that struggled and failed, but only once during the end boss fight. I've found that most leagues who make it past all the Warwalkers will make it through the end fight... Maybe the problem lies with people not paying attention to the "confused" notification and refraining from using Judgement or AOE's during the end phase? Really, only single target attacks should be used, and they should be focused on the AV, even with ample Clarions being thrown about. .. At least in my opinion.Just staggering Clarions doesn't quite cover it IMO. I have played this trial 7 times. Succeeded twice, failed 5 times. Every league had several people with Clarion. That final fight is just awful, easily the worst experience I've had in a video game in years due to the ridiculous Confusion mechanic. The first time I played it my team beat it in less than a minute. But every time after that has been hell. One of the two wins happened with 2 minutes left on the timer and only because my Brute, who didn't actually die, suicided so she could go to the hospital to buy Break Frees. While I won't tell other people they should avoid it completely, I know I will. There's a lightsaber game and one that rhymes with thrift that made a few extra dollars because of how much I despise this trial.
IMO the UG boss is a low point for City of Heroes, and possibly even MMOs in general.
Quote:I have only rarely been killed by pink circles of death.
The psychic "ping" attacks Penny and Mother use on the other hand have taken me down dozens of times, and as far as I can tell, that has nothing to do with paying attention. Either you have the HP and buffs on the team to survive them and they are easy to ignore, or you don't and you die over and over. -

Doc: Out of curiosity, is this your generosity shining through or are you projecting that ~2 billion per IO (Gladiator, Shield Wall 3%) will be stabilizing, around the 2b mark, in the near future?

I guess I have to look at Mortimer's build now so he stops sending me tells asking me about it. >.>
Instead of giving you a specific/extensive rundown I'm just going to show you the changes I would make and what I would do with the extra slots, because I'm too lazy to type out a drawn-out response right now.
Just some notes, if you want a high defense build and you're willing to spend this much... In my opinion, you should either softcap s/l defense or hit 32.5% on s/l/e/n. Microcosm said recently that he had success building for 32.5 melee/ranged but I personally feel it's more viable to build the 4 common types to the 32.5 mark.
That being said, since you focused solely on s/l I got that up to 45%. If it were me, I would take Dwarf on an s/l Softcapped build (purely for the free set mule powers) because you end up freeing up power choices. So, here are the changes I'd make to the last build you posted:
Code:Take Agility Core Paragon and you should be pretty good to go. I wouldn't personally run this build, but you might find it works for you. I'm showing 47% s/l defense with incarnates on but it should be closer to 45% in game if you use level 25 LOTG recharge speeds (I know I do.)| Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build | |-------------------------------------------------------------------| |MxDz;1537;692;1384;HEX;| |78DA65946B4F13511086CF760FD69672B35CCAADD022504A5B5A40E285842844130| |42D20FAC9900516688240281735C66B4CBC91287CE083FE067F917F4121FA03EA74| |DF97BAB19B6C9EB333F3CE9933B3BBD38F2702DF6FBD1A5346F5F8BA95CF2F3CB0B| |6F36BD6B2ED9D5BCAD91B4BB62A5E5EB93BCE3C0B775756EC8D7C6ECF4ECD3F5ADC| |B6D6176E8872275CF24FD8FFF9AFEF6E5BCA9FDDDC5C4FCD6DD9F672C0594ED9D65| |66E63B5CA79B8995B5DDB91A79A33D7B22DD9725B2A245B27E47E1D50BC0A4A1D0B| |7AB5DA2DDA0CC766A82659B46BE509817BE233E0D3C6A0E9C49F0B1B60043C1F25B| |BC07DD198D078CC31D164B40AEC2B87D54FC1B71253813A2A2A121EF892606D8A1C| |002FA4C9047245A58F5ED6EBED47BE7AB2517C3EEEED6B30E0AB071B6BC177B277A| |573E082AEBC8CDC8D57C0D055F21AD8320A3E114D15F356316F0BF3B631AF217BD7| |E04C664D561015DF0C189E25E7C00F92AF0EB1BAAE077B847BC1CE18D947C6418FE| |40F327F90F923CC1F61FE08F33F93FC0D4A3B736E3880BE4EF44D3C4313CF30C0DA| |0778968FA26B665DCD93D075DD26A7C869F0E21DF093685AA9691DA46F881C067B2| |E9123E073D1B4A316D53E2290520FC4D6C177A2639CF16360EF29F99BFC03F69D80| |2F441BC54C5594EFC24BB175C366768F16F73055DF19191327DF4B6C8C7BC7D8DB3| |87B1B676F13EC6D3288F7301902DF88B69F73E9FF8C3E26BE908760F2080CCA0C52| |8835525FA5F6A0F4FE1BA8C597E67CD29C4F8673C9704E3FFDA5EF511949D47EF2C| |FE631EE23CE3F4FCE80BFDCBA1874A76EDD31FA1838043347609B2EFD2F4CC5BE78| |D817CDBE68F6A5D38975FA5D886BD77FA620974A9759326596A132CB709965D26DF| |9812AA774E90F269F3F6C594D53F1C48ED2572BFF25580AF7C4EBA3D717413FB27E| |47EFF81FBAD6966BBDE85ACFCAC798E1FA2F62F7D416| |-------------------------------------------------------------------|

Quote:The quantums can be a bit of a pain at first, yeah. I suggest that you take nova as quickly as possible, play actively (move around a lot) and gun them down as quickly as you can. As you level up you'll notice them becoming less and less of a threat, until eventually you don't even notice they're there.Hey,
I've started playing this game around Christmas and find it's a great game. I've upgraded to VIP and tried a Warshade.
I found that any time I encounter a group with a Quantum, it's multiple trips to the hospital.
I'm only level 4, but I looked at the Paragon Wiki and it doesn't seem Warshades get much more to combat these guys. They're specifically designed to make my life miserable.
Am I missing something? I often only get 2-3 shots in before I'm at the hospital. I'm only level 6 now, and not looking forward to level 10+.
I've got a Brute, Scrapper, Blaster and Widow and none are such a PITA to play. -
Quote:I'm on my phone so no access to Mids. However, I am curious on your thoughts regarding your choice of 'tough'. I typically make this a choice on many of my builds but with eclipse I've questioned its overall usefulness.
1. To get Weave
2. To one-slot with a steadfast KB/3%/Gladiator's Armor IO
3. To run with Gravity Shield against single targets
To name a few reasons why I've taken it on builds. -
Quote:Yeah, Incandescence and Absorption don't work in forms. As for why, not sure. Probably a balance issue since both forms come with their own inherent Energy and Negative Energy Resistance.
It's funny that in *that* sense, they acknowledge that Kheldians don't need any more resistance.. And yet now they're releasing the AT specific Kheldian set, where the unique grants resistance to Human Form and 2 of the set bonuses are resistance bonuses. I mean, hello. This is a purple set. Anyone who can afford to purple their Kheldian (and very many who can't) doesn't need any more resistance. Our AT set is a waste and an abomination. </rabble> -
Quote:Wow thats bad
Katie tfs + speed itfs were run nearly all the time way before itrials even went onto beta . . . . . . .
To the OP, only advice i can give is ask beforehand if its a speed run or not. Also worth to ask what server you on as i believe there is a server which does mostly speed tfs of everything? Well thats what i heard anyway
Personally i like to kill most things, get more drops
My advice to the OP is: If you want the ITF to be challenging, solo it. It'll certainly change your perspective on the "morality" (for lack of better words) of getting through things as quickly as possible when you can. -

Quote:Yeah, you definitely need at least a few people with Clarion to counteract the end fight confusion, but it doesn't take any excessive planning or reflex playing- Just stagger the clarions.Success or failure of Underground depends almost entirely on power gaming your way around a Mag 20 Confusion aura cast by the end boss. I won't call it difficult or challenging, because if you can do that it really isn't. But I won't give it up a thumbs up either, because on some leagues the only way to win is to purposely fall on your sword so you can go to the hospital for more inspirations mid fight. For this reason, for me personally, it's the worst boss encounter I've experienced in a video game in years. Good news (maybe) is the reason for this is mainly the cheezy Confusion, and many leagues build pre-form themselves to get around it (in theory, I've been on several that failed anyway).
Quote:MOM and TPN are the kind of thing I played two or three times and don't feel a desire to touch again for a long time. Play them if you want to try them, but I HIGHLY recommend being level 53 first, especially for MOM. I've had runs where I didn't die one time and others with back to back dying. It's the latter that left an impression on me. Try if you want, but play it a few times before forming an opinion. My first few runs of MO in particular were so easy I thought the trial was simple, but the trial opened a can of auto-hit on me and I got to see the miserable side of it too. YMMV. -
I just hoard them infinitely until I can get a PVP IO. I also used them for the fancy, shiny armor.

Quote:mostly explained in the title, but this trial would be the hardest of the hard. upon completion, you would get a Rare or Very Rare incarnate component. You would fight your way to the well for answers as to what the coming storm is (or something similar)(or just to gain a hint more knowledge/power, but not so much that it would tie you to the well). You would fight echoes of guardians that once served the well, and ultimately the wells previous champion(s).
The information you gain from completion could be a cutscene showing a battle to protect a different well before battalion consumed it or through time-travel a previous well could be restored (or give battalion a reason to come after our well)(reason being that we defeated them at some point and they want revenge by consuming our well).
This sounds a lot like the Mender Ramiel arc, except with a different ending. We already tried to find the well, but we couldn't. -
Quote:I have trouble understanding this perspective. The first thing I always want to point out is that when I hear points like this being made, it makes me think someone has an alternate dimension version of COH where Incarnate content dictates that you MUST BE ON TEAMS AT ALL TIMES!Stick a sock in it. Your argument was dead before the game was even released. It was being touted then as being a solo and casual friendly game that didn't require you to team up with others.
Nothing in the phrase MMO denotes that teaming is required. Massively Multiplayer Online. Nope. no terms meaning "you must team". Only terms that indicate that there are other people online in the same world environment I'm in.
I talk to other players while I'm playing. Sometimes I'll stand in a mission doing nothing but talking for quite a while.
I can participate in Rikti Ship Raids, Hamidon Raids, Zombie Invasions, Rikti Invasions and similar without being on a team.
iTrials do not allow me to participate if I am not teamed.
I mean, look at anything in the game. If you want the WST badges/merits, you need to be on a team. If you want Task Force badges/merits/Synthetic HamiO's from Statesman and LR, you need to be on a team. If you're fresh out of vet specs and you don't want to blow any cash, you need to be on a team for a respec trial... The list goes on and on.
My point is that none of these things require anyone to always be teaming at all times, or any more often than they would like to be, really. The same could be said for Incarnate Trials. And the great thing about all of this stuff is that you can do it all if and when you feel like it.
I guess I just don't understand the outrage, like it's a completely unique concept that's totally unheard of and against the direction of the game. Certain things require teaming... And the Incarnate gate is even being lifted in Issue 22. I guess I just don't understand the source of the complaints in the first place, and I definitely don't understand why it's still being mentioned when the next update is giving you what you want. -
Quote:Right, I got that, but this implication made me uncomfortable:Read it again -- he said he used them ON TEST over and over. So he was duping them to Test toons and using them, when PvP was occurring on Test back in the day.
Quote:And if you wanted to you could eat them at anytime. They are in the 200 mill area but they actually do something. -
Quote:And would essentially lock out anyone who can't run or stand these trials.
And what are you using as a point of comparison? Incarnate trials aren't required. They're how you get your Incarnate powers, though. If you don't enjoy the content you're welcome to not have the powers, obviously... But even with that being said, we know Dark Astoria is coming. I just can't find any motive whatsoever for you making this statement... Unless you didn't even read enough of my post to see where I mentioned Dark Astoria. If that's the case, I suggest you recheck it. -
Oh I thought you meant the inherent when you said "the auto power." Meh, that power provides a very insignificant amount of resistance that neither of my Kheldians have any use for anyways so I guess I just never noticed.
Unrelated: Turn off your pop help, you're giving me an "oh god I just made a new character and now there's tuns of crap I have to do" anxiety attack!I didn't want to experience that again until I get to make a Dark/Dark Dominator.

Quote:I think my suggestion that you quoted would alleviate your "new currency" fear. To me, it's pretty simple: Don't let the Incarnate XP for the new slots to be purchasable with threads, inf, or anything else. Make it be "earned" by doing MoM, TPN, Underground, and future additions like normal XP is. This would mean no need for a new currency, because people would still be required to play the content to unlock the slots in the first place. Those who were still working on Alpha/Interface/etc. would unlock and slot them up as they do now, and even stockpile for new slots if they wish, by doing BAF/Lambda/Keyes, but they'd still have to do the newer trials to unlock the new slots...Ahhh see you have hit on my biggest fear. I have more than 20 characters I am pushing through the incarnate system and all but one are +3 on any trial. While a number of them have nothing but t4s in all powers and are semi-retired until something new arrives, trial or powers, I am rapidly approaching the stage you describe. I have characters that have nothing but t4s and already have 4 very rares, 4 or more rares and assorted others components along with a lot of astrals and emps.
I wasn't particularly happy when we finally got destiny, lore, justice and interface and discovered all the salvage my characters had stored was practicaly useless aside from converting from shards to threads. They are taking such a long time releasing the next set of powers I am almost certain we will, once again, find ourselves forced to start mining some NEW form of salvage to open them... Otherwise many players will have some powers open to t3 or even t4 in no time.
This game is getting entirely too many forms of currency etc as is without another set of components and salvage we have to farm to open and slot the next range of incarnates.
Of course there will also be Dark Astoria, but I think the XP gain ratio soloing Dark Astoria missions should be the same ratio to soloing newspaper missions VS. doing an ITF on a team in respect to the rate at which XP is earned during trials.
I would love to see the Devs put this idea to use, because it ultimately gives everyone something they want. Devs want people to run newer trials more. Players don't want a new currency. Bam, potential solution. -
We're all beating the game, Kheldian style.

Quote:That hasn't been my experience entirely. I was playing my Brute on Virtue the week TPN and MoM came out, and I was able to play and succeed at both trials consecutively almost every day for that week.BAF is basically the easiest Trial, expect to see 9001 BAF teams and an occasional Speed Lambda.
Keyes is no longer hard, some of the kiddies are giving it a try now. I've been recently running it alot on my Stalker, since it's the one time in a team setting that Stalkers can almost feel like a real AT.
UG requires heavy coordination. Let me repeat that: Coordination. From CoX players. Write this one off for eternity, it's pretty much impossible.
I have never seen a MoM team. It is probably more difficult than sleeping, hence why nobody does it.
I've been on one TPN team, and haven't seen many more. The biggest complaint I have is that the story writers and programmers seriously dropped the ball by having Citizens to amazing damage to f***ing INCARNATES. TPN takes your game-world immersion and pile-drives it into the concrete. Also it requires people t not use AoE around Citizens, which is like asking a chimpanzee not to throw poo at you.
So in conclusion? Enjoy your BArFs and LAMes, because nobody does anything else, and probably never will until Paragon Studios invents a system which plays the game for you.
I think a big problem is that people bring out their "best" characters who need the badges when the new trials first come out, and after that there's no more incentive for many to run them.
That being said, I was on a successful MoM trial on Freedom earlier tonight, I saw two Master of Underground runs forming in the last two days, and tonight we also managed to succeed at the requirements for almost all of the badges for TPN (in a PUG, mind you) before the client crashed, kicked everyone out of the game, and locked our characters for about 10 minutes.
Anyways, moral of the story is that the new trials do get run, they are very engaging and interesting, and they're not at all difficult once people get used to them. Unfortunately, BAF and LAM have just been played so many times by now that everyone has them memorized, and there's no incentive to do the new trials for the majority of players-- The casual types who don't stockpile Emp Merits or collect Master Badges. Why would they do something new and potentially challenging when they can stick with what they know and not miss out on anything? -
I got the chance to explode some bad guys with AlienOne the other day, and let me tell you the guy knows what he's doing.
I can now officially endorse him.

Kheldian Fridays not going on tour would be like if Nirvana never left Seattle. Such a waste of potential.

Quote:He'll transfer it to Virtue and roll a new WS here to participate in Kheld fridays. History repeats itself.
Haha, nah, but I did roll a new Warshade on Protector, I'll probably just set it out with cheap rare IO's if/when it gets to 50, unless Stone decides to take KF's on tour (which I still think is an awesome idea.)
And yeah I really enjoy Virtue a lot but my Warshade is currently located in a top secret dimension.I will miss you Zaloopa. You are a good pal.

Well, everyone knows that. Not just for GM response, but whenever you want to get people to pay attention to you on the internet. Pretending the letter "u" is a word also helps a lot.
