    2) An everything store with very high prices (say 20 or more X the sell value). This will put a ceiling on WW/BM prices because you could always go to the Super-Store. It would also counter the drop rate problem.

    3) Charge inf to use the Arena and AE. This will cause a sink for inf. (of course if the Devs don't fix AE or to some PvP this sink wont do much.)

    4) Allow people to turn off Inf to get more XP. This will also cause an inf sink. And it would please PL who want to get post level 20 or for that matter level 50.

    5) Allow people to buy levels with inf. (If you want to prevent them buying every level, allow the purchase of 1 level every 3 days like dropping a mission.) Again Inf sink and PL made happy.

    6) Bring back the random recipe roll at the end of TF. (Keep this as an option pick merits to buy recipes later or take the roll now). Then KHTF and Eden would bring more recipes in to the markets.

    7) allow us to Bribe contacts to open up their arcs if we haven't met them yet. (small inf sink but a QoL change)
How about as an alternative to number 2, we have player run stores? Minimum cost to open a store is 100million. Once players can see prices they can shop around because it brings in competition unlike the auction house.

It would be cool to use them like bases so along with monthly 'rent', they pay to decorate their store and just like WW, a percentage of the sale is paid as a fee(think credit card transaction fees for the merchant). I would also like to see a new UI where the store owners can pay influence to remain at the top of the list much like Google Adwords. To provide incentive for people to visit your store, i.e. to see all your wonderful decorations you paid good money for, you can charge a shipping fee if they buy it straight from the UI or no shipping fee if choose to enter the instance. I suppose this would have to be substantial to make it worth it to load into possibly many stores as you shop for the best deals.

It would be fun also if the owner could take over an NPC while they are logged in so you could chat/bargain/etc. Maybe even make this a part of SGs so when the leader is not on, someone with the proper permission can play the store owner.

Influence sinks that target the 'richest' players to please NCSoft and competition to please the players.

I guess one of the problems I see is the have/have not syndrome as I'm sure many players would complain this idea is too prohibitive to access for the majority of the players. So are bases to a degree and the game already consists of have/have nots considering the current prices for purples. But I will leave it up to the smarter people in this thread to point out additional negatives/positives since this is all I've got.
  2. It seems you want to avoid any advertising that does not properly target your intended audience. I do not what criteria such an audience needs to meet since I do have access to the same data as you do but I am going to assume that patrons of comic book stores fit.

I would then like to suggest setting up a retailer website for comic book shops in order for them to access promotions/content/advertising materials/etc. Besides a mass mailing to the retailers to alert them to the site, I would hope quarterly contests to win a free copy and/or free time to City of Heroes would be a relatively cheap way of advertising the game. I imagine the retailer doing something like an art contest, as a prize for some tournament or as a raffle in order to give these items away.

Let the comic shop owners throw their own mini-contests and advertise for you in exchange for a few free games and time cards to hand out once a quarter or however often you see fit. Use it in conjunction with Steam so you do not have to mail hundreds of copies so when it comes time to provide the freebie where an email of codes is all you need.

One hurdle though is how do you know if such retailers are actually throwing a contest or just signing up to hand out codes with no effort on their part. One, does it matter if you get some new subscribers? I don't know but I'm sure you would figure that part out. If it does matter though, then I would think sending in a picture showing a CoH display in their store would suffice(of course, you would need to provide the appropriate advertising material). Would a CoH display that stays in view for a week or two be better than advertising in comic books? Again, I don't know but I would hope it is substantially cheaper and would hit all the comic book geeks when they come to pick up their books instead of the limited amount of comics you chose to advertise in.

That's all I got as everyone else has covered the gamut of options pretty well. Thanks for posting and welcome to the forums.

    Farmers Adapt.

I like rewards more than the story so would I want to use a new search term to find the right AE mission(s) for me, such as "no allies"? I came back for a month and it looks like ticket bonuses took a huge hit. I rarely get anything above 300. I'm looking for more around 600. XP is not an issue since I'm using my 50s and I already found with the difficulty choices, I get more than adequate XP than compared to the past(I mainly solo). Right now I'm at +0/5 no bosses/no AVs and I really did not notice a significant jump in tickets when changing the equivalent hero option.
  4. I had my doubts but you guys were right. I downloaded the OpenGL 4.0 preview drivers and I can now alt-tab. Wooohooo. I was scared at first because it did the same thing as always, switch from Aero to Vista basic, but tried alt-tab anyways. Nice to see some progress.

And just for good measure, do this for CoHUpdater.exe, too.

That should hopefully fix it so Windows doesn't switch to a basic theme when running CoH.
This has always been unchecked for me and I am now running 10.3 drivers on my 5850, Vista 64 bit. I had also went to Themes to change it to "Windows Vista" but every time I start the game it still switches to Vista Basic. Still no alt-tab for me but I just run two monitors and make sure any apps or browsers are already running on the second monitor. Would still like to get it to work.

    Repurposed? Interesting...
Defend against PvE raids maybe? Do you remember Jack way back when saying base content design was a mistake and they should have concentrated more on its PvE aspect? Hopefully it was Posi that told him it was a mistake since any Jack ideas were as popular as the white stuff at the corner of a dry mouth. It would be really cool to have all those defense systems have a purpose.

    Exciting news all around.

Ultimately the same issues that CoH was criticised for when it launched exist today: repetitive maps, nothing really to do but combat and no real variety to the game. Some of the more interesting, more involving content appears in later updates, but it hasn't been pulled through to the earlier stages of the game - the very time when it is important to hit the new players and keep them interested.

The biggest problem with CoH/V is that it isn't releasing content that is attracting new players while also retaining the existing ones. It isn't growing in terms of active account terms. Sadly I don't think War Witch will be given the resources to turn that around and will have to come up with something inspired to likely hold steady when DCUO launches (assuming that SOE doesn't totally drop the ball... and given the amount of focus they put into learning from CoH/V, I don't think they will). Plus with Paragon Studios working on their next MMO, the focus of the studio will shift away from building CoH/V towards building the new title.

I'm waiting for GoRo to wow me, but the currently released info lacks features to get that excited about right now. Perhaps there will be a close-to-release info blitz, but that also runs the risk of those new features being buried by other news, so potential players don't hear about it.
Exactly how I feel and why I let my sub lapse longer and longer each time I take a break. I resubscribed for the month but don't expect to extend it beyond that. Good QoL features but for me personally, really nothing new to do. Same here in hoping GR brings more to the game than I've read so far.

(But when I do log in for a session, it is for a longer duration here than I do in CO. Been enjoying DDO more than anything right now.)

No matter how many Dev Choice or hall of Fame arcs you run...they will NEVER differentiate themselves from any other arc apart from text and odd power combinations for NPCs. You can't even give temp powers in them!

This is how I feel about MA as well.

Personally I'd like to see AE shut down for.. ahem... Maintenance during double XP.. I'd get a laugh at all the "you mean I need to go OUTSIDE??" comments.

I say that whenever my friends ask me to do something other than playing in front of the computer.

And no, I would not be angry if AE did not get 2XP.

The only reason this is exciting news, is because it means we can move on to issue 16 and Going Rogue now. Yay!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This.
  12. No, I did not ignore premise number 1. You incorrectly assumed from the beginning that was what I was talking about. I'm only asking for the OPTION to turn off email. i.e. RMTers still have a market for their emails.

    [ QUOTE ]
Why would they use tells if they couldn't use email? Well what do you expect them to do, exclaim "I am undone!" and go back to stitching soccer balls together for $.03 a day?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I didn't ask if they no longer had email. You proposed that RMTers were not reported/banned any differently whether they use emails or tells. Why would they give up? Not saying they would and this is not what I asked. They still have email but should be using tells as well given your interpretation of the issue.

I'm glad you said "probably". None of us know how they would behave but I do know I want this feature added. My thought is it would "probably" not be as bad as you say since it will be an optional feature.

    You also say:
"If we were given the option to turn email off, I suspect many would do it."

Doesn't that say this feature is highly desired by the majority? I'm assuming majority due to your worst-case scenario. At this point there is no other reason for the Devs not to implement beyond resources, priority, technical requirements, etc. So on the one case, the majority does not use the feature thus, using some of your words, the RMTers do not notice a large drop in revenue but in the other case, we have the majority of players requesting a feature(since we are assuming I am equating the majority of players using the feature to the majority of players 'requesting' a feature). Unless by "many" you only mean more than one and not the majority, in which case we are still back to the former case where RMTers do not notice a large drop in revenue. Do you want to clarify that comment more since I'm having to make assumptions of my own from the lack of information?
  13. So you are saying a person sending out 300 emails in the middle of the night can send 300 tells before they are banned?

Given your argument, why are we not seeing spammers use the /tells right now? If there is no difference in the time they are reported/banned then why avoid another avenue of marketing your product. Using your argument, it is just as attractive as email. They can hit just as large of the population as email, right?

Can you provide an explanation why they do not use tells now? Since they are not using tells now, can you also offer evidence they will return to them if we are given the option to turn off email?
  14. [ QUOTE ]
That breaks the honeypot. If the RMT's know that such a feature exist they will choose other vectors, such as broadcast or tells, to do their spamming. I'd rather have them confined to the email ghetto.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So you are advocating a reason for RMTers to stay? i.e. Let them continue to reach a larger market through the use of email because they can send a greater amount when few people are on as opposed to tells or broadcasts where they are reported in real time and more likely to be banned before they reach even half the people they do now.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Do what I do: Abandon the email function altogether, let it get 100% full with the spam mails and then leave it alone. Offline messages work just as well anyway if you need to send someone a note when he/she isn't around. Otherwise you'll be fighting a never-ending battle clearing the inbox, ignoring the spammers, getting your ignore list full and then eventually having to clear it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is what I do now. I do not use the email system and clicking the Spam button for months has done nothing. It was a pointless exercise. Unfortunately, from someone else's post I now know I have a long ways before my inbox becomes full(it is currently at 80 emails), if ever.

Sounds like a challenge to broadcast in all the zones and /unhide to see who can fill their inbox first. I wonder if their is a badge for it.
  16. I would like if we could get the option to skip a power and get enhancement slots instead. Even if you only get the option to do it one time per character.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
(qr) I'd a thousand times rather get useless spam email than for them to go back to using tells, going to broadcast, or any other means of communication we use that they're not in yet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not me, I'd rather catch them real-time. 5, 6 reports maybe before they are banned? Even if it is 20, that is better than let them reach 200 people when they mass email at 2am in the morning. That could end up frustrating them more. Also, I would think /hide would be more effective at that point.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
I'd rather have the ingame email than not.

Why? Because I have received one non-RMT email? No.

Because if you turn it off you will force the spammers to find other avenues. If you think the AE spam in Atlas is bad, wait until that turns into RMT'ers.

Yes they will; I've seen it in other games.

I agree the RMT email is annoying. I would dearly like to see a "delete all email as spam" button. That would be more useful than removing emails and forcing spammers to find a more direct route to annoy and interrupt gaming.

    [/ QUOTE ]

We are asking for the OPTION to turn if off not the obliteration of the system. Unless, you are saying once the spammers know the option exists they will find another avenue.

I don't know what it is but any time the disable option is brought up, people re-word it as if we are asking for the complete removal of email. I wish they would include that when refuting the argument so we know they understood what exactly we are and are not asking for.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
I've probably been part of at least a dozen separate threads in the suggestion forum regarding this issue, as well a few here, and in Player questions.

I gave up a long time ago. lol

On a side note, you can effectively reduce your own spam by using /hide so people can't use a simple /search to get your name. It may take a little time for the spam to dwindle down, but it does work. AND/OR, since you don't intend to use the email at all, you can ignore the little red letters and the notification in the chat of new mail.

If that doesn't work, change your UI color to almost match the red color, so you might not notice it as much.

If that doesn't work, print your UI and cut out the Email button and tape it onto the screen so it looks like it's always empty. haha

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would just like to point out my own personal experience with hide. It did not work. I have two characters that have been in hide for months. They only surfaced for a little while to get a team, started getting spam, went back to hide at end of that play session and have been getting spam ever since...despite my months of pressing that damn button.

I just ignore all emails now. I don't bother deleting them. If the devs do not want to provide the option to turn off email then they can store all the crappy spam. If I'm lucky my inbox will become full and the emails will start bouncing back. To me, it is pointless to continue reporting. It is a fact it does little to nothing to abate the stream of spam emails.

No no one wants to rehash yet another farming in the MA thread. It's already been done dozens of times.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hey, we have to farm our post counts SOMEHOW.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I need your secret then because I'm obviously behind the curve.

Also, I wasn't asking about farming. I was asking whether the reduction in XP in MA would have an adverse effect on its use. If that is in another thread then fine, say so and I will go search for it.

Edit: Regardless of how you felt about the thread, thank you Eisenzahn for responding as you did.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE RED LETTTERS!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unfortunately, they jump out just as much as typing in CAPS. That stupid red highlight screams out to my conditioned brain to click it every time I log in.

I had emailed support on the issue and after telling them I was going to ignore emails and stop reporting spammers they said it was the same thing as having the option to turn off email. I said not it is not, so I asked them for a way to turn off the red highlight and suppress the email System messages. They said they would pass on the suggestion to the development team.

They had originally mentioned some changes were coming to the system but did not specify if to email, chat, etc. Nor did they mention what type of changes. Do we get a filter such as a buddy list and all other emails are ignored? I don't know so I am hoping my inbox will "fill up" at some point because I am not sending the message I want to the RMTers. That message is "You've been targeting me since Issue 9, your marketing sucks because all you are doing is pissing me off. Please take me off your distribution lists because I am not a customer. And I am not a POTENTIAL customer either". I was hoping an option to turn off email would let me send the core of that message but I will have to use a different tactic now.
  22. No one wants to engage in a meaningful response to his comment?

If they did reduce XP in Mission Architect, what would be the ramifications? Would players scream and holler for a while, eventually get over it, mainly play the dev content and regulate MA as a nice minor feature to use from time to time? Or would it become as unused/unloved as Arena?
  23. As it is now, I have stopped clicking email just like I've stopped reporting spammers. I've been doing it for months like a good little robot and it has finally gotten through that I am accomplishing nothing as far as alleviating any of the spam I receive.

I agree. Just ignore email completely. If we are lucky the inbox will become full and emails will start bouncing back to the spammers.
