Understandable. I would give you a hug if possible so here is the best I can give.

Annnnd, you are wrong. Just finally saying what's on my mind regarding certain posters. I am extremely sad the game is closing and made a light comment about where are those players that said the game would go on for a few more years. In typical forum fashion, those people that think they have some special relationship with the game took it entirely too seriously and just couldn't ignore it.
No, I do NOT want this game to go away but I would not mind if people such as Forbin Project did. -
Quote:I didn't say that. You implied it and incorrectly. I just said the game was closing and where were the guys that said it would last a few more years.Get over it. The game isn't shutting down because it failed. It's shutting down because NCSoft screwed up in other games, and it's easier to cut losses here than in those games.
You were wrong. Get over it. -
Quote:Yes, I have hate but it is just for people like you, not the game I've enjoyed and spent much money on for nearly 8 years. Keep trying that spin but the game is shutting down and not lasting a few more years as people like you predicted. No you are obviously wrong. The articles already out there that the losses they suffered are from their other games.
NCsoft may have more banking on Guild Wars 2 than once thought. The mega-publisher announced that its second quarter earnings were lower than expected; it posted a$6 million loss for the period.
Revenues were down 12% from last year to $130 million, of which a vast majority came from NCsoft's online titles. The company stated that it dipped into the red due to rising labor costs, an increased marketing budget for Blade & Soul's Korean launch, and the acquisition of Ntreev. Aion was also blamed for the company's financial woes, as revenues in that title sharply decreased due to fewer microtransaction sales.
BothLineage titles composed a great share of the company's revenues, with the first game producing 45% of sales and the sequel 13%.
NCsoft said that it is banking on Guild Wars 2 to produce a profitable third quarter, however.
Notice there is no mention of CoH losing them money.

But you haters have always believed what you wanted. Your antics have always been amusing here.
You were wrong. Get over it. -
Quote:OMG, stop. Really. It's shutting down and many have argued it would stay open for years more. Ugh, you guys are still impossible. If you decide on another MMO, please do not carry over this attitude. He isn't actually. NCSoft isn't cutting the game because it is losing money. I would guess that the costs associated with starting GW2 were enough that they want to cut something to make their books look better. And sadly for us they appear to be cutting Paragon Studios and COH.

Quote:Agree. Never have I invested soooo much time in a single venture, let alone a game. I will truly miss what I consider a virtual adventure of a life time. I have a hard time imagining I will be this devoted to any game in the future. You guys are without a doubt the best in the business! I can't tell you how sad I am for you. You don't deserve this. I want you to know that your efforts are more than appreciated, they are cherished.
City of Heroes has been a lifeline for me during some really rough times over the last 8 years. It's a place to play, unwind, argue with Math Smarties, and have fun. This game is the best of its kind. Good luck, and please post on your blogs, linkedIn pages and elsewhere where you wind up. If you're on the game, I'll know it's quality! -
Quote:Whatever. You are obviously WRONG!!!The game is healthy. NCSoft's cutting us because of losses in their other games.
Now, I get to say I'm really tired of hearing from people like you and will be glad to say so until this game closes. You are finally off ignore. Laughable that you are still trying to spin things.

This SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCKS!!!!
Damnit, where are all those posters that said the game was healthy and would last for years whenever a complaint about population came up. I want to have a word with all of you.
Edit(just because it feels so good): To NCSoft mostly but also all the jerkwad forum cartel(except Samuel who didn't blow it out of proportion but special attention goes out to Forbin Project, Scythus, TerraDraconis and Brillig) that responded to me in this thread. Hope you get the same psychotic treatment you gave others in your next game. I wish you well in life but misery in your next gaming venture.

My original friends left ages ago and also many years ago, I found that it was best to seriously curb my postings here since I don't say things players like either(even if it is a relatively tame critique of the game not a "this sucks" post). Just try to accept it as constructive criticism and ignore the overwhelming backlash against your idea. It is what you will typically get if you are not posting something positive. Take a break, forget about these forums(and the community here), come back and enjoy the in-game activities/discussions/etc. I find it a difference experience than here.Yes. Obviously. Believe me, I have heard the entire thread screaming at me to unsubscribe. (The apparent fact that I have no friends left in this game, or on these forums, is a separate discussion.)
...well, obviously nobody here cares, and nobody in Paragon Studio cares, and I'm losing the ability to care also, so it's just not important.
Unfortunately, I don't have much more to offer because I'm on the other side and thoroughly enjoy being Premium.
Edit: Good luck with this crowd. You will need it. I'm going back to in-game activities where I can play with players that don't have an agenda other than enjoying the game. Not sure why I expected anything different when posting here. Kudo to Aura Famiia for just expressing raw kreativity.
And for the OP to be soo completely wrong makes you wonder why forumites need to tell them over and over and over again how wrong they are. If it was that obvious they wouldn't need to say anything and this subject could safely be on the 5th page with no more views by now. Strange way of 'promoting' the opposite view.

Quote:I would tally it up if I had the desire to participate in those options. You're absolutely right about unlocking stuff as a premium means you always have it. If I could afford to buy enough points to unlock the whole shebang I probably would... but.... that's a great deal of points. I simply can't make such an up front investment. What I CAN do is subscribe and save up points and slowly but surely perma-unlock an item here or there that I already get with VIP or use those points on new stuff.
And even if I did unlock everything I'd still lose incarnate content, my base functionality which I value highly, and there's several costume bits that seem intrinsically tied to VIP and dont have a buyable option in the market (they aren't anything fancy or part of sets they just don't seem to be available on my 2nd account which is premium).
At the end of the day though... tally that total up... is the person who pays to unlock the whole shebang really getting more for less? -
And to add to all the "you've forgotten" comments, once you stop paying that $15/month, you LOSE all those items. Premium purchases last until the servers shut down. And no matter how long I subscribe, I will not get to keep all those extras. I would have to decide what items my 'free' points would keep unlocked permanently and given the discussion here, after purchasing powersets, you will inevitably lose those extra slots, costumes, arcs, etc. Or just keep paying.
But I'm of the mindset of don't buy it if you don't want it. As Remus pointed out, if you don't like the Incarnate system then Premium is the best option. For me, I'm spending less and getting the same fun as I always have.
To the OP, if you don't feel VIP, I think the solution is simple and should cost you less in the long run unless you have a serious case of alt-itis. As a premium player, I have little complaint about the value I'm currently getting. I was rewarded exceptionally for subscribing all those years and absolutely thrilled to hear about others paying beyond their subscription to get extras that took forever to release in the previous model. With that increased revenue, I worry less about how long the servers will be up and how long I get to enjoy this game.
Edit: And since this game is closing and this thread somehow made it back to the front page, some unfinished business.

I'm not too sure about all the Very Long recharges. How well can you mitigate these recharge times? Will it take a ton of rare IOs or will many of the powers sit unused every other mob due to recharge? What will provide the best synergy to the set? I'm thinking of going controller but am looking for some feedback first.

Quote:Yes, yes, yes...Draw lots of inspiration from the Tower Defense games, and basically having a path (that can't be built upon), but leaving space around it for defenses. This would also allow the possibility of having NPC invasions, where you basically have a stream of them trying to break into your base, having to depend on a combination of your defenses and SG players to hold them off / do something.
I would love to be a part of this and most likely to join a large super group instead of making solo SGs like I do now. Defending your home(from a PvE invasion) where much time and resources were dedicated and preparing for the next attack by gathering resources or building sounds like a good reason for a bunch of people to stay together long term. And if elements from a Tower defense like mobile game can make it in, so much the better. I had many hours of fun playing those.
And best of all for PS/NCSoft, it could open up many more items for sale on the market. -
Quote:Yes, I'm confused by Guy's comment as well. It's a zone event so you participate by being in the right area at the right time, e.g. Banners, correct?Yeah cuz all they do to add zone events is flip a switch. It's a pretty good indicator -something- is getting touched up to the zones if they're adding zone events.
I hope it is fun or at the very least has a good reward(maybe not as good as Summer event but close) since other zone events go unplayed(Monsters, burning buildings, troll rave, etc) except for the most populous servers. Maybe adding it to LFG would be nice, I don't know.
Regardless, I'm all for touching up the environments/zones so each place looks more active and something I want to participate in as opposed to my usual view of nice wallpaper I travel through going from mission to mission.
Looks like a solid issue to me and looking forward to playing it. -
I didn't know that. Were there any hints to what is coming in i25? Or is it just because it's the number 25 that you assume it is the 'big one'? Are they saving Bio and Radiation armor for that release?
Or maybe we get some new power pools. Hoping Sorcery is not it and they can fill some other gaps like gadgetry, experimental science or utility belt(give me bolas please) type set. -
Quote:This.I really like the 4 player team mechanic because it makes the LFG tool actually useful. You can throw 4 players together pretty easily, but trying to randomly form bigger teams for events like a DfB or other trial just doesn't work well. if you're lucky, someone forms a nearly complete team to run the event you want, but leaves a spot or two open for someone from the queue to drop in...
Quick, frantic pacing, fun and a great reward.I've never played one event so much. LFG tool made this event easier to participate in.
-
Ditto for me, including Pinnacle, Liberty, Protector, Triumph and Victory(especially villain-side in each case). Gratz to everyone that says differently in response to Eternal_Wilting but that hasn't been my experience for years. Virtue has kept me playing, otherwise I would be writing this game off as dead(just to me, not in general MMO terms).
-
I have to say over the past couple years, I have not experienced one iota of this easy teaming people speak of(Pinnacle, Victory, Triumph, Liberty). I've joined the channels, played during primetime and off-peak time(I'm PST), tried starting teams(with little success). I'm sorry but during primetime on Triumph and only 17 people red-side, no one is getting a team. Are you telling me there are 500 people on hide? Yesterday on Pinnacle, a Saturday around 12-1pm, 43 people blue-side. Did anyone want to play the new Summer Blockbuster when I used the LFG channel? No.
For years, I've had little luck on the lower population servers. Yes, they are called lower population servers for a reason and even the people that say they have no problem teaming are calling them that when saying things like "I prefer the lower population servers because I know everyone". I have never found it 'easy' to find a team whenever this subject came up. I would try the suggestions on this forum about global channels, start your own team, etc with little to no luck.
I look at these forums and the responses and just hope either there is some secret handshake you don't let others know, you just "get it" but that is only a very small percentage of the population, you're lying for whatever reason or you and the few people you play with are the only ones experiencing this 'easy' mode(last one being the most likely to me). We are all aware the forum posters are but a fraction of the playerbase and I hope your experiences are not representative of most other players on the lower population servers.
All that said, after failing to have teams available at practically anytime, do you know where I actually found them? Hard to imagine, I know, but I moved onto a server that was mostly yellow every day of the week...yes, Virtue. No global channel needed. I get random invites, broadcast/LFG/Help/etc channels are abuzz with people looking for teams. I can start practically any TF and within minutes have a full team. It's wonderful and I'm sorry I spread myself out earlier among so many servers. What did I see on Triumph yesterday? One guy asking for DFB and another asking for Magistrate, followed by "Anyone?" Anecodotal, but so is every post in this thread.
I was hoping for a thread like this because I DO want to move some of my characters. What is stopping me? I don't want to give up all my prestige and bases I've built. I would gladly move to Virtue in a heartbeat if the server transfers would allow for a transfer of everything. Unless cross-server teaming becomes a reality, I don't see some of my favorite characters playing much team content(my 50 crab on Protector, villain side is another one that has yet to play Summer Blockbuster). I don't want to throw all that time/effort I put towards bases out the window. So, yes, I want better features to allow me to move to a server where I don't have to worry about 'getting it' as so many here seem to do. I'm not going to apologize for my choices but just ask that you respect I am different than you and for whatever reason any advice you have provided me over the years did not result in the easy team mode the posters in this thread are enjoying.
Thanks for listening.
<and thanks dugfromearth for posing this question> -
Thanks everyone. I'm on my way to the Incarnate arcs.
-
Ok, I had wondered about that and completed that arc but still couldn't get access. The support ticket I had opened also suggested I try the contact directly, which I had already done yesterday and again, today. What I didn't know, Texas Justice just answered and I do not go to them directly. Thanks. You guys make better Support than NCSofts's own CS department.
