  1. I would have kicked you too. Force bubble is nothing but an annoyance for melee ATs. Even if he was an awful tank, you using force bubble only it made it that much harder for him to tank in the first place.

Maneuvers has a much higher Def bonus for defenders than tankers, It's a relevant advantage that tankers simply don't have. Making the entire team minus the defender have better defense (ranged/melee/aoe > only s/l/nrg/neg) than an ice tanker is pretty significant already to include the defender in the buff though is overpowering since it completely devalues the entire point of the Tanker AT. This isn't even including the numerous debuffs and controls that come with the Cold dom set that are superior in every way to the rest of the Ice Armor set.

Keeps debuffs easier to balance with buffs that way.

Also, isn't game-breaking the purpose of buffs and debuffs? I don't know what a "non-broken" game looks like, but I suspect it looks a lot like tanks drawing aggro, dps doing dps, and healers racing their hps versus the incoming dps all day. (Ooh, there's that level 54 boss farm again.)
If defenders had immunity to purple patch, we would have lvl 10 Rad/* defenders debuffing lvl 20 mobs by Tohit/Defense by 31.3% instead of 3.13%, resistance by 30% instead of 3%, and damage by 25% instead of 2.5%. Such a situation is game-breaking since it makes support set stacking 10 times more powerful than it already is and devalues the ATs without support sets.

If two defenders and a blaster don't constitute broken now, I don't think defenders with all buffs self-beneficial would be broken either.
Here is that problem with that logic...

    Ice Tanker total defense:
    Frozen/Glacial Armor = 26.5% Nrg/Neg/S/L
    Energy Absorption at 10 hit cap = 9.36% Nrg/Neg/S/L/Fire/Cold
    Wet Ice = 1% Nrg/Neg/S/L/Fire/Cold
    TOTAL = 36.86% SELF ONLY

    Cold Defender total defense:
    Ice/Glacial Shield = 23.4% Nrg/Neg/S/L/ranged/melee/aoe
    Arctic Fog = 7.8% ranged/melee/aoe
    Maneuvers = 5.46% ALL
TOTAL = 36.66% TO ENTIRE TEAM

Such a change would have to result in SEVERELY nerfing down ally only buffs or risk the complete death of all Melee ATs.

    Benumb

the damage value is different on the foe because of Purple Patch modifiers that effect every power in the game. This means you're not going to get the -50% on anything that cons higher than +0.

You're really being overly vague here. All the -special effects are still working just fine on foes like Ghost Widow. Keep in mind that Benumb/PB -/+special has always only effected powers on npcs not their inherent status protection/resistances.

This could be implemented in a minor way by saying 5% of all Defender attack damage is unresistable. Or this could be implemented from a more wrath-of-god viewpoint by saying 5% of the damage of the Defender's attack is converted into a mitigation-scheme-agnostic max-health-reduction for 120 seconds, (like how the Vanguard's Curse of Weariness power reduces max end). These numbers are certainly tunable; they could even be tied into the Defender's current Vigilance bonus.

Certainly this kind of mechanic doesn't sound all that 'defendery' in story terms, but on the other hand guardian angels have been known to go avenging from time to time.
The problem with that is that most enemies don't have any damage or debuff mitigation to bypass and when they do it's usually incredibly minor such as 10% resist to one damage type.

It's a nice idea, but it wouldn't work out in practice at all. Only way I could forsee this working is if you gave them immunity to the purple patch on debuffs but that would be too game-breaking of an ability and probably isn't even remotely doable.

*sigh* Really people, defenders are for the patient and the min maxer, preferably both.

Also, as for Going Rogue killing defenders. Not going to happen, I love defenders but can never seem to enjoy a corruptor. Im sure I cant be the only person with that problem.
Your assessment is absolutely flawed if you haven't fully played both Defenders and Corruptors. For instance, my Ice/cold corr deals more damage and supports the team better than my Cold/Ice defender. Same could be said about my Rad/Rad corr and Rad/Rad defender and dark/dark corr and dark/dark defender.

The reason for this is because the damage loss going from Def -> Corr is significantly more than the support gain going from Corr -> Def. Since Damage naturally acts as a form of damage mitigation, the extreme damage deficiency for defenders makes them weaker at supporting the team than corruptors. This becomes even more apparent the more support ATs are added to the team.

Also the FotM trends in this game have always shifted to either easy to solo builds and/or farming builds. This is why you see more scrappers than tankers and more controllers than defenders. Given the choices between corr and def, the majority is going to shift for corruptors because of the earlier attacks and the ability to farm rapidly.

No one is saying there will be zero defenders when we say GR is going to kill defenders, we're talking majorities. Such as 9 corruptors for every 1 defender kind of majority.

  10. In the beginning I avoided this forum completely until Quake's little megaman minis actually tricked me to enter this forum and I've been trapped here ever since.
  11. Those animations that are currently shared with Super Strength could easily get the same options that have been confirmed for Super Strength.

I dont think Power Boost will do you any good. I'd pick up Leviathan Mastery for Hibernate.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Power Boost effects Benumb's -Special bringing it from -55.875% to -90% (the -special cap, actually raised to -99.833% before cap).

Power Boost also effects the -Def in Sleet and Infrigidate, as well as boost the hold duration of freeze ray and the -ToHit in bitter ice blast. It also increases the -End/+End aspects of Heat Loss. It also increases the -SPD component on all slows. It also boosts Tactics, Manuevers, Aim(Tohit only) and Vengeance by a significant amount.

Arctic Fog, Ice Shield, Glacial Shield, and Frostworks are the only Ice/cold powers that have absolutely no benefit from Power Boost.
  13. Guys it really shouldn't matter what support primary you take, if the damage is way too low on every blast set that isn't Sonic Blast then the base damage needs to be increased. By the way saying Defender damage is fine as is, is saying Ice Melee for tankers is fine as is since both are 20% less than what other tanker melee sets do.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
There's also Scirocco for Power Sink.

    [/ QUOTE ]
if you need power sink on a Ice/Cold Corr, then you're doing something terribly wrong.
  15. I would say Ghost widow for Power Boost or Mako for hibernate. The +Res shields favor cold more than black scorpions Def shield because the +Res stacks with arctic fogs where as the +Def does not.

    New Forms?

    Never going to happen.

Development is focused on making new sets for normal ATs and new EATs. Not going back and adding powers to EATs or any normal AT set for that matter.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
You said it yourself, "Solo a Kheld if you want a challenge", I'd change the "or" to an "and" and complete your quote: "and a nasty headache"... because quite frankly, Kheldians are demanding and you have to pay attention and the slacking room isn't very big, if at all... but what's wrong with have one AT that's actually a bit of a challenge?!

By the way... I find VEATs very challenging... to my patience. I get too antsy when I play them because they seem too boring for me, so I started a new Widow last night, here's hoping she lasts and doesn't get deleted.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Khelds really aren't a challenge to play. Try playing a solo defender, now there is a true test of patience with their awful damage.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Black Scorpion has an +Defense Armor and it is probably your best bet. With so many VEATs running around, you can reach the soft cap with good teaming.

The others are just ... well, just worth for the unique animations

    [/ QUOTE ]
Black Scorp's shield isn't positional like arctic fog, so it doesn't stack with what cold brings.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
what is the new deal these days? i dunno if i should roll a Rad/Rad Def, A Controller of some type or a DDD...any suggestions?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    - Dark/* has the heaviest -dmg/-tohit debuffs but lacks a debuff variety compared to other sets in favor of controls.
    - Cold/* has the heaviest -recharge debuffs and best single target debuffing.
    - Rad/* has all that variety but no specialized debuff, certainly not bad if you're going to stack it with other support sets but lacks the same impact by itself.
    - TA/* best offensive debuff set because of Oil Slick Arrow, Disruption Arrow, and Acid Arrow. The downside is that the damage mitigation powers really aren't that amazing compared to other sets.
    - Sonic/* doesn't have a whole a lot of strength on it's own and lacks a lot of variety, but shines pretty well when another support set is helping out. Also it is highly unlikely a team will ever reach the cap for -res debuffs.
-Storm/* similar to cold but trades buffs for knockdown + -Tohit and more AoE control.
    - Kin/* you're honestly better off rolling a controller since there is hardly much of a difference going from controller and defender here.
