Most Psychiatrists are quacks who invent disorders to justify their own existence. They then prescribe drugs to 'treat' a chemical imbalance in a person's brain that they say is there even though they haven't tested it and have no idea what the drugs will do. -
Quote:Whether you like it or not it was designed as an expansion from the get go, since it was built on top of CoH's foundation. CoV was not built from the ground up like CoH was, it was additional content of the same game. Not, it wasn't. It was marketed as a standalone game that existing City of Heroes players didn't have to pay a second subscription for. This was true from everything Positron ever said, and if you check out the PlayNC store now (or whenever it comes back online), you'll see that City of Villains is still being sold separately as a standalone which does not require City of Heroes. The mere fact that we had A TON of CoV-only players speaks for itself.
Quote:I don't know what your definition of "piss-poor" is, but it's obvious you've been playing other MMOs a little too much, whereas a lot of us are here because we don't WANT those other MMOs. I could have been playing World of Warcraft or Lineage II or Champions Online, if it weren't for the fact that these games AND their expansions suck. I have even now put more hours IN JUST GOING ROGUE than I have put in almost any other MMO I've played. That ought to tell you something.
I'm glad it doesn't have end game, myself. -
2. 3. and 4. more than counteract 1., in addition to your past posts on these forums when the FF is compared to any other support set as underperforming. I also notice you sidestepped coming out and just admitting it.

Quote:Apparently you're incapable of reading the very post that you quote, as I said that I had played Lineage II and it is by far the worst MMO of the many I have played.I take it you've never played WoW. Or EVE. Or pratically any other MMO under the sun (barring CoX, from my experiences)
The guy is a blatant, real life troll. Its been proven that games can be addictive. What did he expect? That a magical pixie would come out and give him treats and cookies for...something? Seriously, the idiocy of the 'victim' is on galactic levels. -
Quote:Some of these lawsuits are justified against NCSoft, as is the case with Richard Garriot v. NCSoft. Why is it that is always seems NCSoft gets the most /facepalm worthy lawsuits?
In this case it sounds like the guy may or may not have been gold selling, but was wronged regardless by NCSoft and is taking it out on NCSoft in legal fees. Since the subject at hand is Lineage II, I wholeheartedly agree that it deserves to burn and support this suit as ridiculous as it is in hopes that it does. Lineage II is a game of nothing but mindless grinds against constantly respawning world trash in hopes you can get more gold to be able to grind harder mobs, assuming someone doesn't gank you and steal the gear you spent half a year acquiring in less than a minutes time. -
Quote:It wasn't a stand-alone game. It was marketed as an expansion and by all MMO standards was an expansion since it was still using the same system CoH was. If CoV had absolutely nothing linked system wise to CoH then it would be consider a stand-alone game.CoV was a stand-alone game - that's why it had to have enough things like new ATs and power sets to make it work - GR is an expansion to be plugged into the existing game, so it doens't need the same amount of stuff as CoV needed - which is why it's cheaper than CoV too
Maybe you don't play other MMOs but this is a piss poor quality retail expansion in relation to the rest of the MMO genre. -

EDIT: My thoughts will change the moment Westley gets off his high horse and admits FF isn't perfect, you know like he hasn't done in years of worshiping the set. -
I have to agree with the OP, as cool as the praetoria stuff is the whole expansion is underwhelming. All the praetoria content doesn't work with Ouroboros, so those that only play their 50s feel like they paid for half or less of a game. CoV was a better expansion, since it had twice as much content and 5 new ATs (not just 4 powersets). GR feels like something they released 6 months too early.

Quote:well the key problems with Force Bubble are that it's lackluster for a Tier 9 power slot and it's range is too dang big for a repel power, making it cumbersome and often counter productive.I'm fond of Force Bubble in its current iteration. It costs a heavy amount of End and can serve as a panic button or pseud-herding tool. Certainly though, it does have its negatives and this game really isn't friendly to hardcore repel/KB for various reasons (player dislike, teams not adapting, mobs getting stuck in walls/geometry, just too 'different').

Quote:main issues I have sonic are: Sonic Siphon isn't an AoE, Sonic Dispersion probably be a better power if it traded status protection for some regen (leaving status to Clarity), and Sonic Repulsion being utterly retarded of a power.I dont know how much help Forcefield really needs (not that I wouldnt be happy to see something go it's way), but Sonic Resonance is downright BAD!! Maybe at level 50 and IOed out it turns into something really nice, but I could not get thru the 20s on that powerset. I would rather solo an Empath !

What Umbral said. They've completely removed and replaced powers in the past that were widely considered redundant or underperforming, as is the case with Energize replacing Conserve Power when the set already had Power Sink yet lacked a heal. he could easily look at FF and say, "well Force Bubble and Repulsion Field in the same set is kind of redundant." The reason we haven't seen anything looked at is because support sets tend to get listed after everything else on Castle's todo list, mainly because they are more complex (see castle's frustration with Oil Slick Arrow).
-
The key and source problem with FF is that it lacks variety, specifically it lacks -dmg/+res/+recharge/-recharge/+dmg/-Res/-Def/+tohit/-tohit effects, pet AoE soft control (ice slick for example), and non-phase hard controls (like any ST hold/stun/confuse/fear).
Why does it lack so much? The culprits are Repulsion Field, Force Bubble, Detention Field, Force Bolt, and Repulsion Bomb and how they redundant in addition to requiring too much user input (IE: positioning, animation time, situational awareness, etc.). The redundancy of the over-protectiveness of the set hurts the set mid to late game when other sets have bloomed and are stacking a variety of effects in addition to +Def, where as FF only gets more knockback effects on top of knockback effects. If FF had at least one late blooming power that was at least somewhat offensive, the defense/KB redundancy wouldn't be an issue.
It also doesn't help that none of the FF KD/KB effects are fire-and-forget type powers like Sleet and many trap abilities. Instead they require more work on the player's part with situational/spacial awareness in regards to abilities and position without any greater results to justify the work. Case in point, spamming Repulsion Bomb is less effective than casting Ice slick one time, you trade a good amount of animation time and endurance for the same or less of a result. If Repulsion Field and Force Bubble weren't player centered toggles and weren't as previously stated redundant in effect, this wouldn't be as big of an issue.
Narrowing it down, if you get rid of or dramatically change either or both Repulsion Field or Force bubble to be offensive in someway and more fire-and-forget, then FF wouldn't feel as underwhelming compared to every other support set mid-late game. -
Quote:I haven't experienced anything overly difficult yet on my lvl 11 elec/elec dom and 13 elec/kin tanker. Heck I haven't even died or come close to dying yet, which is surprising for a dom.Looks like I'm going to be in the minority on this but I enjoy soloing in Praetoria. To me the content was challenging but not insurmountable. I have felt this was a nice change from the rest of the game where the devs made everything far too easy and as a result boring.
I do however respect the opinions of those who aren't pleased, and I hope you don't give up on this. -
Quote:Power Buildup effects the -Special component of Benumb raising it from -74.5% to the cap of -90%. Combined with increase in duration in Freeze Ray, this is the main reason to pick up PBU on a Cold, the dmg and tohit is just fluff.Power Build up is just another clicky like aim that I'll forget to use. Let me put it this way, I have three doms and on none of them do I use domination during every mission. Aim and powerbuild up? compared to domination what chance do they have to be remembered. Hell the only reason haste works is because it's on autofire.
Also reiterate take Ice Blast, skip frost breath and BFR. BFR has ungodly long animation and crap damage, and does both of those jobs poorly compared to the rest of the set. Frost Breath has similarly long animation and weak damage, but those searching for more AoE, it's not bad, but not considered important to the set.
as for your problem with autofire from the Macro guide:
Quote:Power Use Made Easy
Multiple Powers on Autofire
auto1.txt
numpad8 "+forward$$powexecname hasten$$bindloadfile c:\kb\auto2.txt"
auto2.txt
numpad8 "+forward$$powexecname dull pain$$bindloadfile c:\kb:auto1.txt"
Pressing the key to move forward also activates a power. The second press of that key moves forward, activates a different power and reloads the first bind. It is reccommended that if you do intend to use your powers this way, turn down your sound to avoid the recharging sound. -

Empathy being the obvious (IMO boring) choice, but the appeal of that set is actually the buffs not the heals. Although Empathy will probably lose appeal after GR comes out since /Pain corruptor is simply more fun to play with and just as effective as a empathy/ defender.
Kinetics, Dark, and Rad have a good heal AoE each but again all defender sets are more about buffing/debuffing than about healing. -
Sorry but if you are seriously PvPing, then you're already at HP cap or close enough to it to not even matter. Sure, Frostworks has it's uses on "Fail" pvp teams but that doesn't mean by any stretch that the power doesn't suck. Cold shields have better use in PvP than FW, and that's pretty pathetic on FW part considering how much +Def sucks in PvP.

Quote:Freeze Ray will solve your problems then. Grab it, Slot it, and use it as part of your ST chain.I can pretty much confirm this. =) But it's not the alpha
I personally use Infrigidate -> Freeze Ray -> BIB -> I. Bolt -> I. Blast -> Freeze Ray -> BIB -> etc. as my attack chain. I generally only use Sleet + Ice Storm on 4 or more targets or really tough targets, and Heat Loss only for keeping my bar filled all the time. Soloed my Cold/Ice defender from 1 to 50 using Freeze Ray and Blasts almost exclusively and it was a breeze.
Ancillary shields are nice, but honestly I only really get a good use out of them in teams and when I up my difficulty slider up solo. -
I think Gavine's problem with soloing is the lack of Freeze Ray and/or use of Line of Sight when opening with Sleet + Ice Storm.

Quote:Read the title of the thread. You are, of course, aware that your statement there was not a categorical truth, correct? There are debuffs that have some of those same advantages. [Surveilance], for instance doesn't alert mobs, so is similar to applying a buff to a teammate. Also, what does mez have to do with it? There are many debuffs that are on click powers, and so won't be "turned off" by the player being mezzed.
-
buffs are naturally better than debuffs on three counts; they are active prior to any attacks, they are active even through mez, and they aren't effected by the purple patch.
although when debuffs are active both sets are equal in most situations. As the enemy con goes higher though debuffs start to slack some compare to buffs in strength, but not by a lot. -
Cold Domination guide in sig for cold powers.
as for Rad, Neutrino Bolt and X-Ray Beam will be your bread and butter for ST until you get Cosmic Burst (some like using the snipe for ST chains but I personally find it too annoying and end intensive). Pick up Irradiate at some point early since it's your best AoE and a great debuff AoE, and if you still want more AoEness Electron Haze works fine but is purely optional. Try to slot Neutrino Bolt with Achille's Heel proc and any damage procs ASAP.

Quote:Demon Summoning isn't overpowered. You stack any MM/Corr/VEAT/Defender/controller and you're going to have an overpowered team. It's just the nature of having force multiplying buffs capping out, not the fault of individual sets.Demon summoning is overpowered as it stands, and just about everyone but the devs seems to know it.
Due to this more people than usual are running to play demon summoning hoping that the devs dont catch on. That combined with the fact its a new shiny means theres gonna be a fair amount of cattle ranchers for a while to come yet.
Try running a cave with 8x demon summoners... its no fun trust me
