And Sundays are an absolute no go. I could probably get into the game. But after being up that long, I'd be totally and utterly fried. NOT exactly someone you want on a run where you need everyone alert and paying attention.
Reader's Digest version: Bummer, I can't go. Oh well, maybe next time.

What would you do?
I can only say what I do, which is play something else.

I have two accounts, but one of them gets far more incarnate playtime than the other. When I get a new level 50 on that one, I can cash in 39 astrals without much worry, run Remiel's arc, and do the weekly strike target to get my Alpha shift. The other account has far fewer level 50's, let alone incarnate-capable level 50's. When I've gained a new level 50 on that account that I want to run through the incarnate stuff, I choose to wait until they're Alpha shifted. That means I run them through a few task forces, gain some shards, maybe cash in the few spare astrals I have on the two 50's I have for that account. Sometimes this means that they can't run incarnate trials for a week or two. SO I DEAL WITH IT. If I only had one level 50 out of my entire roster, I'd bring it to trials, flat or shifted because that's all I'd have. And I suspect (dare I say know?) that the people arguing against Major T's point have MANY level 50's, some who are shifted, some who are not, and are not limited by this factor.

But because I have better options, and perhaps more importantly I am in no hurry, I wait until a toon is not only Alpha shifted, but fully IO slotted as well. Why? Because I have other characters I can play. I still regularly bring out my Rad/Sonic Defender, who is Tier 4'd more ways than I care to count, because a) he's the most useful character I have, and b) it earns me rewards I can probably use in the future for other slots. Just because a character is "done" earning the desired incarnate components for right now doesn't mean that gaining additional pieces is completely useless. Plus, by willing swapping to something (let's say an UG, for example) that is a major debuffer, +3, with Clarion, I know (not suspect, not theorize, KNOW) that I'm contributing directly towards the success of that trial far, far more than if I had stayed on a 50 +1 who hadn't even unlocked judgement and interface yet. Sure, the argument could be made that using the tier 1 and 2 versions of lore and destiny still function. And they do. But on every character I've run through incarnate trials (literally, I keep track of this stuff) by the time I get both Lore and Destiny unlocked, I have enough components (with some astral to thread breakdown conversion) to be Tier 3 across the board. I'm sure someone could pick that line out and complain about rare drops, but I usually end up with around 24 empyrean merits when the last slot unlocks, which is 3 rares, and even with the RNG hating you a lot, chances are you'll get at least one drop by then.

I don't claim to have a perfect solution that can work for everybody. But if I see a higher-tier trial forming and I'm on a 50+1, I swap. Every. Single. Time. Because it's the nice thing to do.
  4. Thanks everybody!

    I am now old.
  5. And it should be noted, we got two totally different crashes.

One crash was where we completed the BAF, and then the server crashed (related or not, we all lost stuff).

Another crash entirely happened in the middle of the Trial, where we were plodding along normally, and then got kicked back to the zone we started out from. And it wasn't due to failure.
  6. Just a reminder that this is today, in a little over 3 hours. Come on down if you want to have some fun!
  7. Greetings. Thought I'd throw this up for the heck of it. I'm hoping to do the Eden Trial this Sunday at 3 PM PST.

I'm hoping to bust this out because 1) it's a fun trial, and 2) my badging brute is forcing my hand. Since I was gone for several years, I missed the side-switching badge fest that I'm sure happened.

So anyway, that's that. If you're interested, post here, or just meet me at the spire on Sunday at 3.

Also, it should be noted that I, unfortunately, will be initially taking up 2 spots, as my brute is 50, with my 2nd account being the character within the level range who can actually start the Trial. Once underneath Eden, however, that acct will drop and my computer will be much happier for it. That is all. Express interest if you have some.

Great summary, a few points for when you do an update, CoV contacts' level ranges are a bit odd from my testing and the feedback I've gotten from people who use my site:

    - Mercy Island contacts' missions level range has been narrowed down to levels 1-8
    - In Port Oakes, Billie Heck appears to be level 6-10, not 5-10.
    - Cap au Diable: Krylov and Percey are set at 10-14, but Peter Themari will offer missions at level 15.

I'll change the Mercy Island contact stuff, but the rest....

I've received Billie Heck (and done missions) from him at level 5, so I know that's incorrect.

As for Krylov, Percy, and Themari, they're 10-15. Across my various characters I've done missions for all of them at 15, usually finishing them off (could have been the last part of an arc, but I'm just going to leave them at 10-15 anyway, since it fits logically with the level ranges for the rest of the contacts in-game).

    Notes/Updates:
    1. The Pirate badge, needed to unlock Veluta Lunata, has had it's requirements reduced from 50 to 10, as per the patch notes.

    2. Changed the level ranges on a couple contacts. Burke the Mercenary and Kalinda the Fortunata are actually available from 1-10 (thanks RedTomax! I love your site!). Similarly, it appears that Mongoose/Dr. Creed (who give missions at level 4) are also in the 1-10 range, so those 4 have their own category now. I have also been informed that Number 204 is actually a 40-50 contact, as people have gotten Venomous past 45 and 204 still opens up to them.

    3. Some level ranges (15-20, 35-40) look like they're incomplete, because most of the contacts in those ranges don't refer you to anyone. In reality those ranges are complete, those contacts simply don't refer you to anyone.

    4. Lorenz Ansaldo gives 2 badge missions, making a total of 3 for the 20-25 range. That's not a typo, that's just the way it is. This also means that 15-20 only has the one badge mission from Willy Wheeler.

    5. The 3 "dashed" contacts listed under the zone brokers are the 3 contacts you can get after doing Paper Missions+Mayhem in that level range.

    6. As of the time of this posting/writing, Regent Korol is bugged and is not introducing Mage-Hunter Zukhara like she's supposed to. To get this contact (and her badge mission) do Terrence Dobbs' missions and get Dr. Forrester as a contact. After a mission or two, Forrester will introduce Mage-Hunter Zukhara.

    7. Have fun!!
  10. Very interesting.....

Thanks for the info!! I'll have to update it later today.

Jeez, it's so time-consuming to piece this all together from various posts...

What DO we know about the upcoming releases (i8 and the box release)?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nothing that I'd trust as far as I could throw it.

Basically, we know NOTHING for certain. Even the stuff that we're "pretty sure" about (which is basically just that Warshades will come to CoV at some point in time) isn't 100% confirmed. Everybody glosses over the "we're looking at bringing Warshades to CoV" part of the quote...."We're looking at" doesn't mean "it's gonna happen."

So basically, we know nothing besides the fact that Issue 8 should come out this year, and there should be a Retail Box sometime next year.
  13. 1. The chick with the Flaming Broadsword in the Recluse Strike Force is Valkyrie, not Ms. Liberty. Liberty is still MA/Invuln.

    2. Mynx has somehow become Claws/SR, instead of the Claws/Regen and Claws/Invuln that I remember her being.

    3. The Final Word on Kheldians and merging:

Peacebringers don't involuntarily force themselves upon a host, they always ask permission (some difference in opinion from the comics if a PB is near-death, but in-game this holds true). Read Sunstorm's Bio sometime.

Warshades also ask permission before taking a host, because they're evil-gone-good.

Nictus, however, have no qualms about doing pretty much whatever the heck they want, and will take any host they want, at pretty much any time. There are numerous story arcs in CoH about people being abducted for implantation, and being weakened beforehand. This is because if the host's will is strong enough, they could reject the Nictus forcing it's way into their body and act of their own accord, instead of being slaves to the Nictus.

Nictus/Warshades have a shorter life-span that "normal" Kheldians (Peacebringers) due to the Scientific experimentation that was done to them. However, they can exist for long periods of time un-bonded to a host, in a Shadow Cyst Crystal. If you haven't ever run across one of these (CoH-only), it's an object, looks like one of those Green glowing Oranbega CoT crystals, except the Cyst is black, with Warshade-y colors swirling around it. If/when you get within aggro range (you don't have to shoot at it or anything, just get close enough) it spits out around 15-30 Unbound Nictus (if you've ever seen the pet Warshade's get, they look like that). And when the Crystal dies it has a bit of a "boom"....usually taking out everybody near it. The unbound Nictus can be stored within such a Cyst Crystal, waiting for the time when a host arrives.

Cyst Crystals have also been known to cause PuG's to kick the Kheldian from the team after 1 Cyst Crystal beats them all senseless multiple times in a row.

    4. As I recall from reading someone else's synopsis of the "Web of Arachnos" novel, Statesman is Magic Origin because he believed that his drink from the Well of the Furies/Fountain of Zeus was a magical thing, whereas Recluse is Science Origin because he believed it was radioactive water or something like that. I haven't read it myself, so I can't confirm or deny that, but I remember reading that from another post here on the forums a while back.
  14. Speaking of Lord Recluse...I knew I had some point to make about him and his powers, but I forgot it in my earlier post.

He is a Mastermind. His bio notwithstanding, there's a mission in the high-level CoV game where you get to fight Lord Relcuse himself, one on one.

At least, until you start winning and he summons a bunch of Bane Spiders to spank you hardcore.

    And they do, too.

    Purple inspirations ftw!!

But aside from that, he uses the energy melee-esque powers we've all seen in the cinematic trailers of him and Statesman duking it out.

So, just thought I'd confirm that he IS still a Mastermind, he just uses his abilities on a much broader scale these days, since he manages the entirety of Arachnos.
  15. This is pure speculation, but nobody's mentioned it in the entirety of this thread, and while not specifically related to upcoming Epic Archetypes, it has been touched upon briefly.

In that often-quoted Interview Positron gave (as well as his 2nd Anniversary address info) he mentions that you'll be teaming up against a "common foe." Thus far, the only common foe mentioned here has been the Coralax.....but there's 2 more much much much more likely candidates.

First off, the Rikti. They hate all humanity (because they don't know they're humans too, albeit severely mutated). More importantly, they're present in both games, to a rather large extent.

But far and away what I believe is a no-brainer for the "ultimate enemy" we face......Rularuu the Ravager.

You know, the guy who made the Shadow Shard, ripped apart the dimension....devourer of...well....everything? Makes Faathim/Lanaru/Ruladak look like wind-up toys? He's the closest thing to a universal threat (that could beat us all silly with his pinky finger) that the game world has at this time.

Sure, Coralax could be it, but they're contained to the CoV-side only at the moment, and really have no missions with just themselves as enemies. They spawn in missions in the Sharkhead SF, but that's it (Aside from Calystix popping up every now and again). Aside from that they just jump out of the water when you run by.

    Notes:
    1. Some level ranges (15-20, 35-40) look like they're incomplete, because most of the contacts in those ranges don't refer you to anyone. Those ranges are complete, those contacts simply don't refer you to anyone.

    2. Lorenz Ansaldo gives 2 badge missions, making a total of 3 for the 20-25 range. That's not a typo, that's just the way it is. This also means that 15-20 only has the one badge mission from Willy Wheeler.

    3. The 3 "dashed" contacts listed under the zone brokers are the 3 contacts you can get after doing Paper Missions+Mayhem in that level range.

    5. Enjoy!
  17. Also, it is important to note that it is rumored that Deathsurge and the Ghost of Scrapyard are spawnable, due to the frequency of which they're spotted.

However, I believe this is just indication that the devs have heard the cries of anguish from irritated badge-hunters and decreased the minimum spawn time on the CoV Giant Monsters.

That doesn't mean I'm saying they can't be spawned, but until I hear an official red-name Developer say "yes, they can be spawned" as opposed to what they're saying now, which is "Only Caleb can be forcefully spawned" then I'm sticking with the random spawning.

If anyone cares, we are now the second biggest, server specific CoX group on MySpace. Only Freedom outnumbers us, by a measly 12 members. Help our "low population" server stand out. Show the other servers that the reason that Protector is the most fun because of the community that is growing here. (That was motivational, wasn't it?)

It was! So motivational it makes me want to run right out and start a MySpace account!

But I am not going to.

    Ditto that, yo.

    One thing I'm wondering-

What count towards the fortunata badge? Only fortunata seers and mistresses? Or do Blood widows and night widows count, too?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I believe that anything with the word "Fortunata" in the name counts for the Fortunata Seer gladiator. I know I got mine in a mission after defeating a "normal" Fortunata. No seer or mistress in the name. Just Fortunata.

Also, as a general note, I've killed over 200 Crab Spider Longfangs and 200 Wolf Spider TacOps and a butt-load of Longbow Spec-Ops.....no gladiator. So I think all 3 take a LOT of kills. Or something that nobody's telling, some link to something else that nobody's found yet.
  20. Didn't see it mentioned in the thread, but for City of Villains the "Coralax Blue Hybrid" badge is currently working. Spent a while flying around Port Oakes killing ONLY Blue Coralax, got the badge after about 100 of them. Also, the Blue Ink Men count for the Serpent Red Ink Man gladiator in CoV too, not just in CoH.

Just thought you'd like to know.
  21. Positron, you're my hero.

Now, if only I had a city block to spare I could offer some personal relief......
  22. Scrapyard does indeed hit like a Mack truck goin' 90, but there's a very easy way to beat him.

    Level up.

Sounds simple enough, doesn't it. Well, it is. Once people get over level 30-ish all of those troublesome minions of his won't be able to hit us anymore with any significant damage. And then all we'll have to worry about is Scrapyard himself. Throw out some accuracy debuffs and Viola, you've got a dead ghost of Scrapyard.

The problem is that too many people think they can take him because of the Giant Monster damage scaling thing. He does indeed hit hard, but since his minions never stop coming there needs to be a way to neutralize them as well, or else they'll rip a new one just as fast as Scrapyard will.
