Quote:It's degrees Celcius (°C), but it's just kelvin (K). Not degrees kelvin. The ° isn't used together with K. So the picture is correctYou see, that T-Shirt has always really annoyed me, because to any true Geek that's 15 degrees Kelvin...but I guess that's the problem with SI units that use the same letters for different things

I am keeping it in mind, thank you. Hence why I put it up there first. To make that clear.
Quote:I would think avoiding a lawsuit is worth it? When the legal department says jump, you have no other choice than to ask how high, gotta keep the game profitable afterall - for the owners, not the lawyers they hire. As for 'it never should have happened'.... well, that is sort of why this is a bug, right? Now, please go back and read your first sentence, especially the 'only human' part.
2) It's not like they hadn't ran into similar problems with the original profanity filter in the ae.
3) This isn't a 'bug'. A bug is an unexpected software glitch. This is an oversight, negligence, just plain not thinking things through.
And it never should've happened, or at least it should've been rolled back untill properly fixed. -
Quote:I like a lot of the things the devs are doing with the game and give them a lot of leeway on the things I like less and when they make mistakes (they're only human after all.)And I seem to recall a statement that 'fixing that list is harder than you'd think.' (One of the ustreams.)
But this is a major screw up which never should've happened. That list should never have gone on the live servers like this. The problems it causes far outway whatever problems it was supposed to fix.
And I don't even create AE missions, I just play them every once in a while. -

Kinda disappointed in contests that require registering an account with yet another website. I don't want their spam just to partake in their contests, and half of them make you jump through hoops not to be sent their spam by default. -
So I finally found the time to fiddle around with the steampunk pack. I really like the overal look and quality of this pack. I do have a number of issues with it though:
1. The faces. I can't say I really like them. The look fairly low texture to me, a definite step down form the awesome mutant booster faces. Also the lighting on them looks off, the shadowing looks weird to me. They just don't look natural overal.
2. Male classic steampunk jacket: The texture of the sleeves doesn't match that of the jacket at all. It really looks bad. You can't even get them to be the same colour.
3. The bowtie on the jacket should be removed or there should be a version without it. The bowtie clips horribly with the (imo superior) tie options under chest details.
4. Female hats: Can we have those corkscrew curls as a seperate hair option without the hat? please? please? please?
5. Female face detail 2: The choker. Why is it only available with standard faces :/ This really bugs me. At least make it available with 'masks + hair' and hats.
6. Gloves: A minor point, more a question really: All the costume parts get a victorian and a classic option, yet gloves only get 1 option (classic steampunk). Why that?
7. Clock belt: Can we have a version for this for the male and huge models?
8. Last but definitely not least: I WANT LONGCOATS FOR FEMALES!!!!11! Coats are NOT gender specific garments. They can be used for a whole range of concepts both within and far beyond the scope of steampunk, so they'd make a great addition. It bugged me that they weren't available for females in the magic pack. It bugs me a whole lot more this time. I don't care that it unbalances the male/female costume part ratio in the pack or whatever. I got several female toons who really would like a longcoat. -
Quote:The current bug has a fairly major effect on gameplay. The 'fixed' bug has an all in all rather minor effect on gameplay. And is temporary.Just replying to support this position. Amazing that so many people are OK with the implementation of a fix that is known to be bugged in a way that negatively affects players rather than sucking it up and delaying the patch until such time as the fix could be done properly.
I'm amazed that so many people take issue with this. Well, not really amazed. I fully expected it, since people are like that. But still. -
Quote:I couldn't agree with this more, if I was forced to.You're not gonna get a "costless" conversion from one "tier" of a crafting system into the same level of another "tier". if and when you DO get that, it's generally gated in some way, either by time, by some form of item, or by being a member of a certain "crafting guild" in many games. In the case of CoH, you can use the 18 hour shard/thread convert, and the like, but you don't get a "freebie" from one "tier" (alpha) to the next "tier" (the other slots). You're not being "ripped off" nor are you being "penalized". It's actually more of a nice bonus you're even being allowed to convert mats/tiers at all, many games do not allow this.

Quote:This post only goes to show your ignorance, because indeed "they weren't actual backpacks" as far as the costumes are concerned. Those things are all power effects. They just float near your back. They don't rescale with your avater, they're not colourable, they're not actual costume pieces, they're not a part of your character. And, yes, npc with backpacks are an entirely different thing as well.Holy crap you're right. I never thought of that before... I mean, I never realized that the Skyraider Jetpack, or the Zero-G Pack (which is just a Malta jetpack), or the Jingle Jet, or the GVE Jump Pack, weren't actual backpacks. It makes so much sense now. That makes all this totally fine.
>blink<
>blink<
... Yeah, not buying it.
I guarantee that more people wanted the kind of stuff we're getting with this pack than all the Incarnate crap they've been spewing at us lately. Make that a paid expansion and give us the costume options for free.
Actual costume pieces need an attachment point on the character skeleton, a different one for each category, and I believe they had run out of those (or very near to). So, yes extra work was required to make backpacks work.
The second part of your 'rebuttal' is so dumb I'm not even going to bother with it. -
Quote:Development time needs to be budgetted. Back packs have never been made before because extra work was required to make them available, and the time/budget for that was never there. Now they moved the development out of the regular issue development budget/time and towards that of this boosterpack. When are we going to get some of this stuff released that's available to everyone for no more than the cost of the subscription fee?
Don't get me wrong, I love every costume piece and bit of customization in this pack. By far it is the most extensive and well-done pack we've seen yet. However, it's filled with things that all the players have been requesting since the game went gold more than seven years ago. Making them pay extra for these things when they've already sunk hundreds and hundreds of dollars into the game just in subscription fees feels like a slap in the face. "Backpacks, you say? Dresses (sort of)? Yeah, we know you wanted these from day one. We know you've been paying us every month since then and have expected us to deliver them eventually. And guess what, now we have! But if you want to use it at all, you gotta pay even more! Ain't life grand?!" That's bad faith, guys. And you even upgrade face textures but don't replace the old ones? You're actually expecting people to pay for higher res maps of existing textures? What the heII is that?!
Microtransactions should be limited to niche stuff that wouldn't exist at all if it weren't for the microtransactions themselves, not the things everyone has always wanted and ought to be scheduled and budgeted for in normal game development.
These packs have been a testbed for new techologies from the very start. Combat auras, costume change emotes, ... have been introduced first with a booster pack and later made available with regular releases. The same thing will be the case with back packs and bump mapped faces.
Without boosterpacks this stuff might take ages to get here or not come at all. This is what the boosterpacks do for this game and what you buy with your money if you get them. -
Quote:Don't forget that a good chunck of those ebooks on amazon are the $1 self-published stuff that are only releases on ebook. Traditionel publishers still sell more of their paper copies than ebooks. This might of course change in the (near) future, but traditional publishing is far from dead yet, and I don't think it ever will be. Just as CDs, and even vinyl, are still being sold (to me for example).Very true, but I think given that Amazon are one of the biggest booksellers going, it's very indicative of which way the trend is going. Admittedly, Amazon are online, so it will be more likely for them to be selling e-books more as it's a downloadable format, bricks and mortar shops are less likely, but even my local Waterstones has an increasing e-book reader display all the time.
Sadly, it's likely to lead to the closure of more high street retail outlets
Personally I'm not all that enamoured with ebooks. Yes, it's practical, but I like reading paper books, I like how they feel, I like how they smell, I like how they look on my shelves.
Add to that that I'm not living in either the UK or US. Our local publishers and distributors are slow to jump on the ebook bandwagon. This wouldn't be that much of a problem for me since I try to read books in their original language and I read a lot of British and American fantasy/sci-fi. But of course because of all sorts of international copy right issues it's a real pita to get my hands on (legal) versions of foreign ebooks. Neither amazon uk or us, for example, sells ebooks to my country. Paper books are not a problem though ... -
Quote:It is. Read Black Scorpion's post in this thread. If this is WAI I will be very disappointed. While I can appreciate changes for the sake of balance, the above is like going from one extreme to the next.
The Incarnate stuff really does make my character feel epic. A change like this, not so much. A limit on npcs for proccing is fine, but 1? I hope that's a bug... -
Awesome patch.
All the Lambda changes are greatly appreciated. -
Quote:As long as they stick to costume packs, they won't for me.You are correct. Every time they release one of these they tick off more and more of their subscriber base. Everyone has their limits. One day they'll hit yours as well.

Anyway, awesome trailer for an awesome pack. First day purchase. -
Quote:It's not just 'not terrible'. If there really are 125k subscribers, that's pretty darn GOOD.My point was more to how sustainable it is.
If you split three million by 15, that gives you 200,000 accounts.
Now...chances are there AREN'T 200,000 accounts. I'd gauge it at closer 110,000 to 125,000, more or less and declining. That isn't terrible by any means, but you'd have to think they can't keep all these humans employed and new content coming out for free for an indefinite period.
Maybe F2P with bonuses isn't a bad idea?
Those numbers indicate total sales, not just subscribers. Lower sales might mean a drop in subscribers, but it also might mean just a drop in new copies of the game sold, while the subscribers remain perfectly stable (which wouldn't be that bad), or it might mean a smaller drop in both. We just don't know.
Something that people all seem to forget is that Paragon Studios doesn't just exist to support CoH the game. It exist to support CoH the franchise. I would be very surprised if there weren't at least well formed plans for furture products at this time, if they aren't already developing them/it. They way they have been building out the studio over the past years certainly seems an indication in that direction. Keeping CoH alive and releasing new content for it keeps the franchise alive and into the spotlight. Closing the game down would be a pretty horrible idea from that poin of view unless the game is bleeding money from every orifice. But considering all the new hires and obvious investment of time and resources into the game I don't consider that very likely. Even if CoH is operating at a reasonable loss, it can be considered as an investment into the franchise. -
Quote:I would like a sort of forming up zone for leagues, but I think the above issue is a much more important one.Actually, it would be more useful to remove the requirement that all members of the teams in the league be in the same zone to start the trial. The big selling point of the LFG queue was to allow people to queue for the trial wherever they happened to be. You were supposed to be able to while away your time in the market while waiting for the trial to start (and you can do this if you queue yourself solo -- you just have no guarantee of ever getting into a trial).
But in practice it doesn't work out that way, because if everyone queues separately you can't tell if you're forming a viable league. The end result is that everyone tries to form full 16- and 24-person leagues the same way they form 8-person teams. And that means it can take that much longer to form.
It's perfectly possible right now to form three 8-person teams in three different zones. If you queue them all at the same time one would assume that you'd all wind up in the same instance -- as long as there wasn't some extra single person sitting in the queue as well.
I'd rather see the devs fix this by providing tools for finding out who's building a league, and who's in the queue. It would also help if there was a dedicated channel for people looking for trials so that you didn't have all have to be physically all in the same location to find a league.
And could we finally fix the silly limitation of the team interface not knowing the AT of a character you've just invited to the team until they enter the same zone? I mean, you can look at the Search dialog and see what AT they are -- why doesn't the system know after they've accepted an invitation to the team? -
I don't care as much that it's OP vs mobs, but I do care that it gives certain powersets/powers a significant advantage over others. Anything that disturbs the balance between powersets is bad. Interface in rains really should be fixed.

Strange, I'd swear I've seen Lambda runs where all 10 or at least 9 acids have been used without one being taken in the courts.

Quote:With the global server thing going on and so I'd just like to warn people that noone actually does this on Union. Siege and Nightstar are always killed where they spawn. Just so you don't run into surprises should you decide to come over'n stuff.'Let Siege get close to Nightstar' means 'ATTACK NOW! BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!'
You might run into some of the others though ... especially the acids and 'hold fire on siege!' ones ... *sigh* -
What I appreciate about all this is the detailed explanation from Second Measure about what the point of all this is. Information helps understanding which helps to keep kneejerk reactions in check.

Welcome to the forums Tunnel Rat. I'm a fan of both your work and your ingame character.
Also:
Quote:This is one overwrought sentence. I almost died of asphyxiation reading it aloud! We've been sharing pretty exciting information with you about upcoming content through the previous issues of the Intrepid Informer and while this is definitely a great platform for that type of communication, we also wanted to be able to introduce you to members of the Paragon Team whom you wouldn't have heard a great deal about but who have nonetheless contributed in great lengths to making City of Heroes what it is today. -
This is really well done. I'm impressed by how 'professional' it looks.

It's an account name. Noone ever sees it. Why would you care? :/

Quote:I'll stay where I am. Maybe I'll create a character on Freedom or so, just to see what all the fuss is about. To the EU Union community:
After the merger, will you migrate, or start a new, a character on one of the NA servers? If so, which one will that be? I have heard that Freedom and Virtue are the two most popular ones; and Positron plays in Justice. But anyway, I am asking just out of interest to see where people will be ending up in.
