No hats and no collars? Not even 'Demonic Xmas Decoration" back pieces? I thought the whole point of redesigning an established NPC group was to open up their costume options to players.
We're now getting, well, if not the worst of both worlds, then the most mediocre. Was this worth sacrificing (ahem) the CoT's classic robed cultist look? -
Quote:Why not create forum headers along the lines suggested and have archetype subforums nested appropriately? The playstyles of the ATs are sufficiently different that merging them together will likely cause as much confusion for new players as dealing with Blue vs. Red AT counterparts.I don't particularly view it as pigeonholing, simply as...well...simplifying. There's a rather large amount of forums to sift through here on our boards, and to a new, or even veteran player who hasn't spent time on the forums, it's a bit confusing.

Quote:You'd probably have to spend a lot of time explaining that the title of the programme is "Inspector Spacetime" but the character is called "The Inspector".I wonder what would happen if I wore that to the LA Doctor Who Con next year....
Oh, and it has its own TV Tropes page now. -
Link fixed, and I threw in one to Community's official site. Thanks for the alerts.
(It's a Youtube clip, but unfortunately, that site is blocked from the network I'm on right now.) -
Normally, I don't have to worry about competition for names since apparently the ones I tend to chose aren't exactly in demand, but I am pleased that I got "Bonfire Knight" and "The Walking Shadow".

On last night's premiere of Community, Abed watched a clip of the best show he'd ever seen in his entire life.
"Blimey, Inspector, where have we wound up this time?"
"The question isn't where, Constable ... but when!"
There's already a t-shirt and numerous Tumblr posts.
While this programme isn't that well known in the US, it's been on British television since 1963. In fact, it became a huge mainstream success when it introduced the evil robotic Blogons (with their signature battle cry "Eradicate!"). My favorite aspect of the show was the creative way the producers came up with to replace actors in the starring role by explaining the new Inspector was really from a parallel timestream who switched over just when the old one was dying. -
Quote:I was referring specifically to the accumulated 400-point monthly stipend VIPers earned over the summer, the "free" point total. Anything purchased since Issue 21 Head Start is a separate matter. In previous threads about CoH Freedom, many players discussed whether they would wind up having to pay a lot more money on the Market despite the VIP stipend or if they'd be able to save up enough for regular purchases with their "free" points.i actually bought a bunch of extra points recently. Then this promotion came out. A small fraction of the points i currently have to get it.
If 600 points for a costume circa CoV 2007 is going to be the baseline, it looks like the former. Hopefully, the devs will learn from player reaction in this thread the way they did with the CoT revamp and make some concessions in the future. -
While most of the revamped CoT costume pieces are too rococo for my taste, I'd like the high collar. The game has far too few such pieces, and it would be useful in the creation of Ditko-esque designs.
The real question for this thread, however, is "How much would you pay for them?" -
Quote:ok its hard for me to choose to purchase something graphic when this is all I see.
So, overpriced, no image, and misleading description?
At the very least, it should be "Spectral Pirates", not "Pirate villain group", specifically, "Red Terror":
What should have been a fun promotional sale has been marred by sloppiness and cupidity. -
That badge's easiness makes sense as far as introducing new players to the defeat variety of badges. It was certainly better than the tedious "Isolator" badge from the obsolete and unmourned Blueside tutorial.
-
I've gone back to Mercy Island with a few lowbie villains that have been parked for ages, and I'm enjoying the revamp very much. At the very least, the sameness of "Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?" is over, and new opportunities for villainy abound.
The use of phased missions is particularly nice with the Arachnos vs. Longbow events. They're certainly preferable to sending new players on standard Kill 10 Rats or Talk to Mans, and I enjoy them more than instanced "behind the door" missions. Here's hoping that Fort Darwin won't be overwhelmed when the F2Pers arrive (today's patch will go some distance to avoiding that). -
In the meantime, player reaction to today's "Talk Like a Pirate Day" sale of the Ghost Pirate costume for 600 points has been, shall we say, disappointed.

Quote:Then by all means, ante up and start providing the details so we can actually have an informed discussion. Otherwise, your argument sounds exactly like those from the OS holy wars.Okay, I have a dose of reality for you. The reality is, I owned Macs for a decade before switching to a PC.
Quote:All you need to know is that my current Windows laptop works fantastic, cost half as much, has twice the power and does EVERYTHING I need.
In addition to Boot Camp, there are the virtualization programs Parallels and VMware Fusion for OS X. I wouldn't recommend them for running Ultramode CoH, but they're very helpful if you want to run the occasional Windows program but don't need to reboot into Boot Camp. -
Quote:This was long overdue. While I shed no tears for any (minor) inconvenience to farmers - though personally I'd prefer they stay in their AE missions as long as possible - I can't help but notice that this reduces only one part of the farming equation. Since among the rewards tickets can be redeemed for are recipes - which, coincidentally, are now sold on the official MTX Market - does this mean that Paragon is now trying to cut out the competition?Originally Posted by Freitag;3885834[BMission Architect[/B]
- Custom Critters within Mission Architect which are capable of self-revival will give no rewards when they are defeated for the second and subsequent times. The powers still contribute to the calculation of their custom XP values.

Quote:Indeed. I was lucky enough to get the Rikti costume in a PERC contest, but I couldn't justify 600 PP for it. Perhaps hardcore costume collectors might. The decent/fun looking stuff like the Rikti costume, Meat Doctor, Ring Mistress, Victoria and all the convention exclusives aren't even offered. I'd pay 400-600 for a couple of THOSE. The rest of these little cosmetic powers need to be priced at 100-200 points each if you ever wanna sell them in meaningful numbers.
The fact is, Paragon has already established the ceiling for an impulse purchase on its Market: It's 400 points, the amount that's the VIP monthly stipend, i.e. $5 (I believe this is also the minimum amount one can order from the Market, but I have to confirm that). By pricing on sale a costume code that would require even VIP players to spend money in a theoretical case, Paragon is making it clear that they do not believe being a VIP subscriber is enough in itself and that they expect all players, no matter what their status, to spend real money at the Market if they wish to take advantage of specials. What should be a textbook impulse purchase is now something that takes a moment of consideration before clicking the "buy" button.
At this rate, we'll see how quickly longtime VIP subscribers burn through their summer accumulation of Paragon Points. Once that happens, expect a lot more irritable posts about what 600 points gets players. -
600 doubloons? Fer naught but an All Hallows' Eve boon? Cursed be ye, Paragon Marketing department, ye greedy dogs!
Offer the Shoulder Parrot fer 80, and ye'll get my gold. -
I'm simply glad to have Praetorian content that isn't yet another bloody Incarnate Trial grind. That the First Ward is so atmospheric and well designed is better still.
Also, hooray for more GR day jobs! What does Tyrant have against them? -
How predictable that the naysers in such threads always lack in-depth experience with Macs, though there are those who switch back to Windows after some time with OS X. (Also, the biggest bargain-braggers among the Windows partisans never seem to mention the manufacturer when boasting of how little they paid.)
But to seconding what CuppaManga say, the MacBook is overqualified for just gaming, but if you want to do more computing, it's great. Some people play CoH successfully on the MacBook Air, which is a nice little machine but not suited for intensive general use (e.g. simultaneously running a suite of business and specialty software - it's not a substitute for a desktop machine).
And bear in mind, Apple's educational discounts for students are very nice. -
Thanks for all your help keeping the Mac community updated, Zwillinger.
(I would have replied sooner except after I was able to download the Mac client over the weekend, the new forum log-out bug hit me.) -
Expecting a one-to-one conversion of Galaxy City from the old map to the new tutorial surely wasn't too much. Even when Recluse took over Atlas Park for his Victory, the fundamental geography remained the same.
On top of launching this mismatched cityscape - surely no-one would have complained loudly if a brand new Ultramode zone replaced outbreak? - generic'ing and misaligning Galaxy Girl's statue is a downright disrespectful gesture toward the game's longstanding lore on the part of the devs. -
Why start with DRM-restricted sources when the venerable Project Gutenberg has been offering public domain electronic books for decades? They've kept up with the times and offer a variety of formats, including ones compatible with Android, iOS, and Kindle devices.
-
Quote:And that's subliminally the intended appeal in a nutshell. Recluse and Tyrant look just too eccentric and too fantastical to shout "comic book" to the wider audience, so Statesman has to face off against a nameless death's-head-cyber-robot sci-fi baddie with a BFG for an arm, 'cos that's what the kids today go crazy for in comic books.I invited a friend back, and their first comment upon loading the client was "Why is Statesman fighting War Machine?"
This choice of imagery is all the more disappointing compared with the dynamic new character studies of the signature heroes in the archetypes screen for the Freedom character creation section. The ones for BABs and Ghost Widow were particularly good. -
"Rest is for the weary, sleep is for the dead."
Thank you for all your community service. Looking forward to your rez, -
Your sympathy is appreciated, but it's no more a comfort that Windows players were missing out because of server outage than Mac players having such trouble with their client. Ideally, CoH players would be all in this together. As the situation stands, there's a troubling pattern developing in terms of Paragon delivering. Here's hoping for a smoother VIP head start once the launch is done.
