Someone said before about "shamelesly using celebrities". Seems like an interesting idea at least... Well, Nicholas Cage would be an obvious choice for something like that. Maybe Kevin Smith? Or even someone from the Comic industries, like the great Stan Lee (the old man had a webcomic sometime ago, not sure if it is still going...) or maybe Jim Lee? To get us known, maybe a computer geek like Ashton Kutcher? If he likes the game I bet he would tweet it... Who else could be seen as a geek celebrity that would enjoy this game of ours, any ideas? Now, get those guys a free copy of the game with one year subscription and let´s see what they think about it!

Now if we ever get real life ads with well known people... Either asks Lou Ferrigno, Lynda Carter or Adam West. Us real life geeks would appreciate it... ;-)

And now I just imagined a Commercial with Comic Book Guy from Simpsons... THAt would be hilarious. :-)
  2. Ok, here one side of the things I have not seen around...
What about those of us that are not NA or EU customers? You know, people might like to play this game even if they live in Australia, Brazil (like me) or South Africa. Hey, I wonder if we can surpass the censorship for it in China tha would be a BIG market... Think of all those people!

That said, and being sure it is not your area of expertise but hoping you can make it reach the right people, the guys at NCSOFT really should re-think the deal they have with Level Up Games. These are the guys that are supposed to be making your games known and played around these parts... Let me say they are NOT doing a good work. You know, I really want to spend my money wit your game but as an example the last Booster they have been selling here is the Cyborg one... Something should be done about that, don´t you think?

Now about the actual marketing of things... And probably being repetitive.
-Banner adds don´t seem to be such a hard thing to do. Evony and other trashy games do that as viral marketing for example. And I believe at least some of the people that play them spend money on them.
-HULU seems to be quite an unanimity in where to place a video around here... But maybe something like an official City of Heroes You Tube could also do the trick.
-Product placement in programs like Big Bang Theory (Nerds Unite!) seems to be a good line to follow... They´re seen in other parts of the world besides the US, think of that.
-You made your videos and they´re attracting people on You Tube? Now seem to be the time for a real TV commercial... But think cable. Cheaper and more specific audience. Place an add for City of Heroes in the middle of Ben 10 and you´ll get a lot of people bugging their parents (or maybe wives, lol) to get them into the game...
-In-game billboards... Hum, that was tried before but not well done. If the ads are made having in mind that they are in the City of Heroes world, not ours, they would not look odd. Like if they are in the Rogue Isles they HAVE to be dirty! If they are well done, and not the SAME in ALL boards I would actually keep them in game... And probably even go to Burger King or whatever in my lunch break.
-Real life merchandise. WE WANT IT. Really, how can you NOT use real products to get our money? If you need ideas that stuff from Mother Love was awesome... BTW: I want my awesome button! If you start selling City of Heroes products, think of a way for us foreigns to get our hands on them too please?
-Still on the real products... No more books or comics ever? Those helped players keep to the lore I think... I personally would pay for something like a City of Heroes Compendium to read about what I play, as an example.
-Comic books adds... Where do you think we originally came from? ´Nough said. Not needed to be in the two big ones either if those are off limits.
-Pen and paper RPG... Well, Champions came from one right? Maybe work something with Steve Jackson Games, I think they could use a GOOD scenario for playing with Supers in GURPS... Or maybe one of the smaller companies.
-Make the character costume creator into a freebie outside of the game... I know lots of people who would love to have a tool like that for the creations on fics or board games. And many would go to the game that gave them this.

Edit: Oh, and welcome into the asylum, man! Sorry, didn´t mean to be rude by forgetting that...
  3. Ok... I didn´t really had the patience to look for over 16 pages of posts, but here it is my 2 cents...

You´re EU players are luckier than us "south of the border" at least... You´re complaining that you don´t have a box? I would love even to be able to buy the online products without having to use an IP hiding tool!
I´m Brazilian and from what I know here and in any other South America country we have to buy our CoX products from a company called Level Up Games... And last I heard they were selling Cyborg Pack as the "newest stuff"!

I honestly believe that there is no such thing as "marketing" for CoX. If a friend of mine had not seen the GxE box in a Duty Free in the Airport I probably would have not heard of it until now. Yeah... Yet again, the "box in the shelf" was what brought me into this game.
I surely hope they not only release it as a box in the EU market but also allow players from other countries to have access to it somehow...

And again, sorry for an typose but English is not my main language...
  4. So, just came back from travel... Gonna check the suggestions and see what I can come out with, thanks. :-)

  6. [QUOTE=Mercator;2690207]Well, firstly. You picked the wrong AT. You'll want to go back to character creation, make sure you saved your awesome costume and delete the toon. Now. You want to pick Scrapper. [QUOTE]

I have Scrappers, thanks, I want a different feeling... Meaning I want to try a "Blapper".

Air Superiority? Really? Never used it in any of my toons... I´ll have to check it out then...
  7. So... I´m mostly a close encounter type of player. I faceplanted a lot while building up my main toon, a Rad/Rad defender (wich btw is now perma Hasten/AM and quite good at his function as support), because I hated to stay away of battle.
So, I have a Fire/Fire that I´m building to keep at a safe distance as a full Blaster type (gonna need help with him later...) but I have this Elec/Elec I really wanted to try to stick to close attacks... The guides on the main Thread are quite outdated, so I was wondering if anyone have tips for building an Elec/Elec Blapper?

And sorry for any typos or babling, quite late here and im already sleepy...
  8. Kismet changed to Phalanx... Thanks for the advice, I didn´t know it worked like that, thought it was a Global "alway on". Maybe I´ll place a LoTG Recharge speed in GA if I can get my hands in one, or maybe the Speed Boost from Gift...

Is AD good enough with 2 Membranes? Mid´s give me about 110sec recharge for a 120sec use, meaning it would be pretty much perma... With that slot free I could place one more in Tough and get Impervium Armor to 4 slots.

Quote post for another thread without acknowledge who posted it or where.

"Make a post that sounds like I might have some sort of inside info when I don't, and add to the end to confuse the matter more"

Another post even if the poster knows how to edit just to add to post count.

Abuse of the same/similar words with the excuse that the poster is not an English native speaker.

(Actually I was quoting Goliath Bird Eater in an actual "generic random rant" in General Discussions, it just sounded like something that should be here)

Edit for poor gramar, also with the excuse of English not being main language.

  11. So, did a little more tweaking in this... Changed power orders, and think that this is probably how I´ll keep them.
Traded the Epic Pool for Grant Cover and SJ... Two questions. Do you guys think I will have Endurance problems as it is (without CP/PP)? And the Kismet in GC will give ME or my Team the +6% in ACC?
Combat Jumping now has 2 Zephyrs.... More defence for me. :-) Is it in the right place? I mean, probably SJ would have more bennefits with the bonus, but the set would be lost in pretty much any exemp I make...
2 Steadfast in True Grit gives me 1,5% End/rec... Since I will have the global one I tought in plaving two of this. Not sure if it is worth it tough, since a Resistance Common would work better in the power (as it seems to be in Stamina with the Endurance Commons...)
3 Membranes in AD... Too much? I think I eventually will be able to get this build complete, but not sure if the extra Membrane is needed...

  12. So, I was wondering... Since it is such an specific type of damage and quite hard to achieve good numbers, is it worth to try making a tank against Psionics? If so, how to do that? Better to work more on Defence, Resistance or both?
  13. Hum... No messages after last post. Did I offend anyone? lol
Guess people are just busy with Beta to see this... Anyway, still checking out what to do with this build so... Probably taking CP/PP out of it and placing SJ back as the last power just for things like Master TFs...
  14. So, here´s the tweaked version... Still not totally happy with the end results, but here it is.
Anyway, changed a few powers (maybe not placing them in the best order), changed a few sets, changed a few procs... Even though it says "final" I´m not totally sure about anything, meaning that everything can be changed, so if you guys have any more suggestions I appreciate.
I dumped SuperJump, thinking in using Ninja Run and flight Temps. It fit well with the Story of him being without any "real" super powers, but with this build probably I´ll never get to do a Master as most of my travel powers would be Temp ones.
Placed Build Up in there... I like the bonus, and it can be activated every 30 seconds for a 10 seconds use, but not sure if it´s not overslotted. Or even necessary...
Conserve Power is kind of an "emergency" power, as I believe this build will not be that much of end draining, and is also necessary if I want to have Physical Perfection... But I´m not that sure I need any of them.
Ok, the soft Cap of the defence is 45%, but I wanted to be in the safe side... Both this one and the previous manage that, but as it restricted the slotting so harshly I´m still thinking exactly what to do...Still missing Grant Cover on this one.

And thank you all who helped. :-)

  15. Finduilas --> Well, thinking of it like you said I really messed up by skipping AD.
Hum... Grant Cover, really? Always thought of it as being one of the skipable ones... No way I´m letting Taunt go, even with Gauntlet sometimes Taunt is just needed for when the Squishies are on the run. I was actually considering dropping SJ now that I have Ninja Run, but travelling only with it is kind of boring... I´ll see what can be done. And sorry If it´s a dumb question, but what CP/PP means? English is not main language so at times I have difficulty figuring out abbreviations...
Agree that the Psi is useless, it´s just that I already have it with me so I tought in using it. Now I´ll probably save it for my future Psi Defense toon... ;-)
Suggestions of sets for damage? I kind of like how it goes with Mako but can consider other stuff...

Turbo_Starr --> Wow... 3 almost full sets of expensive Purples, 3 LotG + Recharge and some PvP Recipes. That´s some expensive build I can NOT afford. Liked the way you slotted Build Up tough, even if I don´t have it on my build... Gotta check your build better to see what I actually could use, thanks for sharing it tough. :-)

Now, if anyone else end up wanting to help, just let me put some lines to clarify... This guy was build with RP in mind, so I actually didn´t take the the time to think on the slotting earlier... Went most of my way with SOs and just now tought on how to improve it. I created him with a Natural/Magic concept in mind, him being a Real Medieval Knight and that way having very few "powers". I don´t have that much money to spen on him, around 300 mills, but probably gonna gather some more Influ/Merits before I finish him up.
Anyway, thanks for the help guys... And still open for suggestions. :-)
  16. So, it has come the time to IO my main Tank... He was conceived for RP reasons, but I DO want him to be at least able to do his job. Anyway, here´s the goal build at this time. Not even sure I´ll be able to buy all this... I´ve been told to try to tweak Conserve and Physical a lil´, but not sure how to that with the slot options I have. BTW, with this build I have almost 50% Defense in all positional defences, so I guess it will be able to hold the beating... :-) Any toughts?

  17. I hope that with Posi now working only with end-game stuff means there will be lots of stuff for 50´s to do, both in Going Rogue and in the original game... That said I surely doubt they would be making a new expansion ONLY for toons below lvl 20.
  18. Konshu had a nice idea with the recurring NPCs... I also like the idea of using our Gladiators for something more than Arena, as I myself was NEVER able to enter a Pet-Arena match and see what it is.. :-( But I must say nothing like this is necessary if you´re looking for a team, that can be found though chat most of the times.
Anyway there are SEVERAL balance issues to go through, plus the fact that have NPCs do all the work is incredbly boring...

    The Accolades

I´m trying to have all accolades on my main characters, but as it was said before some of them are quite boring to get for a third or fourth time... Even with the powers attached to them.
What I think could be changed is to shorten the recharge time of the click ones, so they become a litle more useful instead of just a small "show-off reward".

The winner of the second season played CoX at least... Heard he was co-founder of a SG. If anyone knows him can try to invite him for something like this... (not sure if he reads these forums)

No. NO BOOSTER. If it is added to the game it has to come a a regular update, like a new issue or even how they added the "walk" power. Something like this should not be placed on a booster.
  22. Well, we don´t even know how it will work in GR yet... Better wait an see.
  23. Since they´re gonna be ALTERNATIVES why not? :-)

  24. Or don´t drop anything. Just give the players the opportunity to choose between it and one of teh other powers.
