the real question would be, what are you missing by taking these? now if you were forced to take pools powers and miss out on something else, then i could see your issue, but having to use two extra powers that are, for all intents and purposes, free...... dude, sounds like a bad case of self importance to me, as you are in essence, whining about nothing....

Sometimes I wonder if studio execs get a finished movie, realize it's crud and just toss millions into advertising hoping to recoup their investment in the first week or two before word gets around the the movie is horrible.

wow, the amount of nerd rage for being confronted with a leisure time activity whilst pursuing other leisure time activities is just mind boggling. i mean if the advertising really bugs you that much, why don't you just rant about the folks doing the advertising? or better yet, rant at your favorite leisure time activity manufacturer/retailer for exposing you to said advertising. or, and i know this sounds crazy, you just ignore it, like the multitudes of advertising we are exposed to every day and we have all learned to tune out.............

ya know what? forget that logic stuff, DOWN WITH SUPER 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Classic 80s superhero stuff.
I think the classic superhero costume pieces need an update badly.

    this X 1000000000!!!!!
the older "generic" costume bits are showing their age, and could use a nice going over, with some simple additions.

but if they are going for an 80's booster, lets not forget the obligatory boy george head, and the hair style from the guy from the cure....what's his name? meh, don't care, but we would definitely need his hair!
  7. i just want the "fx in pvp only" option for Kheld forms, i'll take the pluses and minuses of the forms, just don't change the look. it would allow for a more "true to form" power armor toon. shields, blasts, melee, all there, just without the giant squid and lobster.
  8. might i suggest adding KM to your guide?
this combo, on a brute, single handedly solved my altitis problem.
i am not a game mechanics/numbers kinda guy, too much like doing work in my leisure time, so i have no idea how the numbers add up, but i never run out of end, my recharge is ridiculous, and my res to energy and psi for the late game is freaken impressive, not to mention that -end is laughable for an ElecA. not sure how much KM actually added to this toon, but i know he was a heck of a good time every time i logged on, and i enjoyed the animations and sounds of KM.

ummmmmmmmmmm, soooo you made a Pixie and didn't tell us what AT/powersets you used????

My add-on: In Nova transform the lower half of the toon to the "tentacles," and in Dwarf, transform the hands into the "crab claws," and in the case of Dwarf Flare, turn the lower portion of legs into the Dwarf legs.

but that would require alternate animations, which is more work. not that i think it's a bad idea, i kinda like it, but my suggestion would; 1. fix my issues with Khelds, and 2. require no new animations, as all the attacks from those two forms could use existing animations.

i just can't get past the floating squid thing..... it kills my #&%$ game, man
heck, i don't even know if the calls for kheld buffs are legit, i can't make it to level 20 on a Kheld
  11. i would like to disable the transformations on Khelds.....

i like the other forms powers (and weaknesses) but it's soooo limiting for character concept. i usually don't want to be a squid or a lobster, if i could have the same powers, without the look of the other forms, that would be great. you would still "transform", still gain the pluses and minuses of the "form", but you would still look like your human form. this would work well with the "fx in pvp only" option. not sure if anybody would agree on this with me, but it has kept me from playing a kheld for the last 4 years.
  12. Aett, i would say anything Rad, the Rad emission set is kinda grainy/smokey and passes well for "dust" type effects, i've used myself for the same thing. i just colored the emission set a sparkly blue, and brightened up the rad blasts to look like light blasts/stereotypical magic energy, hover works well with this, the rad emish animations work with the whole throwing dust concept..... it just worked for me. and as an added bonus, you provide other players with a rad/rad corr or def to have on the team, never a bad thing!

  14. Better off Ted- only two seasons, travesty it was canceled.
Dead like me - Showtime series, three seasons i think, plus a two hour movie.
Pushing daisies - same writer as dead like me
    Wonderfalls - also same writer

i re watch all of these, all are intelligent comdey, witty fast paced banter, i think it goes over most folks heads, think that's why they don't do so well......
  15. malfunctioning? why of course i am, i always got the feeling that steampunk type devices were marginally reliable at best and needed constant tinkering, and add steam venting from the contraptions to my "gameplan" when first designing them, and it all works perfectly.

thanks for all the help everyone. i believe i will go DM/DA (though that may change) when the booster comes out. here's hoping i can shut off some of the armor effects in the cc. thanks for the guide Des, good stuff there, think i will go with CoF over OG and stack the fears, fears have always been one of my favorites in this game, maybe i'll even pick up the presence pool for some more fear if i have the power slots available.

i have always preferred res sets to def sets for my melee's, have become quite adept at making the most out of FA, and just ran a brute up to 50 with ElA, which was surprisingly easy considering the lambasting i've seen ElA take on these forums sometimes. seeing as how DA is even more frowned upon by some, i take this as a challenge and look forward to dinging 50 with my steam powered juggernaut!
  16. ok, so here's a request for the lowdown on Dark Armor, i have been playing this game for over 7 years and have yet to actually roll and play a DA character.

i have a concept toon waiting for the steampunk pack, and due to seeing another wonderfully created toon in game who recolored DA to look like sand/sandstorms, i'm hoping i can do the same kinda thing and emulate steam. but i have no idea what paires well with it, what works with it's strengths, what mitigates it's weaknesses, etc, etc...

i'm not looking for reasons not to play it, i'm kinda dedicated at this point to seeing a DA toon all the way thru, so if you really hate DA, i respect that, but i'm gonna try it any way

so DA vets, let me know what your experiences are, what your recommendations are, what you think are the pluses and minuses are, and........well everything else, i know, i'm not asking much here. i was thinking maybe elec melee or claws, or something i can justify with a steampunk themed toon. i don't care too much about a leet toon or anything, just something i can comfortably solo, as i d that alot.

looking forward to all your opinions and if you think it would work better as a brute then a scrapper, then let me know that too, maybe even a stalker, but i want to avoid a tank, i've done plenty of those.

    thanks in advance!!!
  17. ok, wish i had that "magic bullet" idea for you, but i don't. what i CAN say is that, keep trying man, keep trying. i've been playing since april 2007, and until 3 weeks ago, i had 1 lvl 50.......ONE!!!!, and i had just about every slot on every server filled with a toon somewhere in the 20's. i know your pain, it wasn't that i didn't like the toons, i loved alot of them (some of them were absolute garbage.....but not everything is a winner, right) but i just couldn't seem to really get any steam going to get a toon thru the slow middle levels. but, my new tonn, who is happily on his way to the top tier alpha slot right now, and i didn't deviate from playing him, i am amazed at how easy it was to run this guy thru the game and get to 50.

so, some folks will tell you that the AT is important, "find something that plays the way you want to play", but i think it's more specific then that, i think power sets, and how they play are just as important. my new main is a KM/ELA brute, and i think it may be the bestest toon ever, which is why i sailed thru leveling. but was also helped me was the amount of stuff to do now on your journey to 50 allows you to only have to focus on the stuff you REALLY REALLY want to do. quick 1-20 in Praetoria, once out start tips, 5 a day if you can, start running the WST and getting the other TF's, for the TF commander accolade, or whatever then run the arcs you really like, i made a point of hitting striga, croatoa, and some other arcs that i really like. i was 50 before i knew it and was done with the stuff i wanted to do. i actually haven't completed the TF commander acc, stupid synapse TF keeps alluding me :/

so, first, find an AT that you like, then figure out what about that style YOU like, then pick power sets that work with your likes. the Kinetic Melee set was new, had cool animations, i liked the sounds, and it fit a concept i had (by the way, the best help for backstory and concept is having years of roleplaying behind you), i took electric armor cuz it fit the concept, had end management, had a heal, i prefer res sets, and well darn it, i just like electric sets for superheroes in general. i built this guy for end, recharge, and non-stop bruting, and it worked well. i don't know if it was a "smart" build, what anyone else would recommend, or any of that, but it works for me, it works GREAT for me, i run thru x4 spawns without ever having to take a breather, and i can knock out the 5 tips a night in an hour or less. so all in all, this guy is exactly what i needed in this game, there IS a toon out there for you, you just got to find him/her.
  18. i have had FIOS for about three years, my speeds are great. i run speed test once a month and my dl speeds never run under 27mbps, upload speeds never drop below 20mbps. i have no lag problems when i'm on CoX, my brother is playing black ops online, wife and nephew watching netflix. i can't say enough good things about FIOS, just get it, you can thank us later

still, despite the chance he's a grizzled in-game vet, new to the forums is new to the forums, and ambiguously worded taunting on his first post is probably not the best idea. one reason i "clicked" with this game so fast, and for so long is the great community, nice vets in game that answered every dumb question i had, would randomly drop lvl50 enhancers on me so i could sell 'em, 'n friendly and helpful forum goers, who explained "dead horse" issues to me when i thought i had just come up with a blockbuster of an idea. the poster apologized, said he didn't mean it to sound that way, so the OP doesn't feel like he being blasted for being new, all's well that ends well.

FIRST, i know you are new, and want to be a bit unique, but the color of your text is not working. hard to read and kinda annoying. not an attack, just a critique, most of us have done it as well and learned the hard way. so stick to regular old text, the older portion of the readers on these forums won't have to get all super geezer on your @$$

second, cars and motorcycles..... engine won't support it currently, that's the official answer. i may disagree with that statement, but only academically. it is probably way too much work to justify the time. it has been asked for numerous times, and every time we get the same response. so i wouldn't hold my breath on these.

third (good news portion), jetpacks!!!!!!!!! asked for almost weekly, and with the addition of the backpack in the steampunk booster, it looks like jetpacks may be right around the corner (in a technical aspect, not a time aspect, who knows when we will get em).

the rest, i love the idea of the flying carpet, flying tech discs, and......well...... ok I don't like the broom, but i wouldn't begrudge it to anyone else. i think these would be relatively easy to pull off as a simple fly emote, as opposed to a variant of the power. we could push for some love in the emote department in specific regards to travel powers, like the fly emotes we got a couple years ago.

oh, and welcome to the forums, hope you stick around for a bit.
  23. RULES! my good boy, RULES!!!!

so, let me differ from some of the opinions here when i say that the "fan" groups of these two genres quite often have a large amount of overlap, and are, in essence, the same group.
the SUBJECT is what differs. let me 'splain, you take a fan base of relatively nerdy (intelligent, and socially inept to various degrees) guys (the female fans of both genres rarely argue over these things) and you pit their great loves against one another. For Fantasy we will assume the vast majority of it is D&D based, as it usually is, or if it isn't, is equated back to it's closest counterpart in D&D, and therefore it has RULES, it has stats, it has HP and attacks and armor class, and defined spells and abilities that have numeric values, and limits and restrictions. Now, in superdom, we have arbitrary values, which vary by generation of that hero, which writer is currently writing, and which bad guy he is currently fighting, and for the most part, don't exist as stats for us. YES, i know there were and are superhero roleplaying games (FASERIP FOR LIFE BABY!!!!!!!) but, that was never really used as canon, and none of the games REALLY captured the granular detail that D&D did.

so, superhero arguments are opinion vs opinion, D&D most likely is "rules lawyer vs rules lawyer" (and if you ever played D&D for more then 10 minutes in a group larger then just yourself, you HAVE met a rules lawyer, every group has one). D&D gives us a definitive answer to what we can only speculate on in comics...... well, it's all make believe, but lets not bring that into this discussion.
