  1. I'm not really going to be much help here, but I'll respond anyway since nobody else has yet.

The recovery disc will most likely set up the same partition structure as it has now, I've only seen a few high end laptops that come with recovery disks that allow you to specify the layout of the partitions. They typically are just a series of warning screens that then copy the structure as set up by the factory.

The free partitioning utility I'd normally recommend to expand your C drive (GParted) seems to be having issues right now with NTFS, and I've not used any others lately to confidently recommend one. Hopefully someone else will see this and know one that's not having issues.

Edit: Link to an older version without the issues stated above, if you burn it to CD and boot from it, you should be able to do what you want. http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpar...Files/0.4.6-1/
  2. They are all pretty pointless, but if you want one that does more than follow and cross it's arms, take the clockwork pet... He at least randomly emotes.

But really, even the clockwork pet gets boring after a week... I don't think many of my alts still have the non-combat pet on their tray anymore. If I had to pick a favorite, it'd be the clockwork. Seeing it do the /e chicken emote for the first time was priceless.

    Thoughts?
Sounds to me like the monitor doesn't like to run outside of it's native resolution. I'd say you have three choices:
1: change resolutions till you find one it likes, you'll probably end up with something distorted/stretched though.
    2: Upgrade your video card
3: Switch back to the old monitor.
  4. Sounds like your video card just doesn't have the oomph to power the higher resolution you picked.

In-game, choose a lower resolution at the same aspect ratio and see if that fixes you up.

Rename CohUpdater.exe, UAC is triggering off the "updater" in the name. Or launch the game by bypassing the updater altogether, and running the updater only on patch days.

Running the 32bit RC on my laptop, all programs installed on a non-OS partition and CoH runs fine. I also dual boot XP Pro on the same machine and see no real performance difference between the two in-game.

Could be a 64bit thing, a buddy of mine experienced something similar, he never did figure out what caused it, but a reinstall of win7 mysteriously fixed it.

    billing question

Never mind, I'm too slow, hehe
  8. Rolled a new alt, took it through outbreak and several missions afterwards, but my little Mek Man only shifted between several idle emotes. Either he can't do emotes like the Clockwork can, or was too camera shy.

Wonder if it's just a matter of them already having many emotes in the wild, Clockwork are always doing something in zone spawns... digging, building, sapping power transformers, ect.
  9. I think you are right. I guess I finally used all the charges on it and called the contact, because I don't have the temp power anymore, but I'm almost 100% positive that was the name of it.
  10. I remember getting a similar temp power, it's from a low level arc, a Defeat x Lost mission if I recall correctly, something about analyzing Lost. I remember having fun using it randomly on PUGs as a conversation starter a couple years back.

I'll be damned if I can remember the name of the power in question though, or explain how it ended up in an AE arc.

I might still have it on that alt, I rarely ever use up all my charges on cool little gizmos like that. Maybe the name of the power will help solve your mystery.
  11. Hmmm... That'd be strange if true. Unless maybe they were testing to see if anyone would notice before upgrading the rest. The juggle electricity emote the clockwork uses was probably added with/after the magic booster.

If the Clockwork emotes, the Mek Man should as well, since they probably share the same skeleton. I'll see if I can't coax the little guy into posing for the camera for us and report back later.
  12. Caught him in action a few times, he's hard to pin down. Many of his emotes don't loop, so if I wasn't quick on the printscreen, I'd miss it.

Great timing on this one, I'd just pulled one spawn from a group of 3 and hid around the corner, only to witness him doing the chicken emote. Taunting them or me, I'm not so sure.

    Dancing

I had a number of other captures, but they didn't turn out well enough to post. During the two missions I ran, he also did Wait, cracked his knuckles, and what I thought before to be Plot, but turned out to be his hands on the side of his mouth, like the kid in the Home Alone movie.

Many of them aren't subtle either, can't believe I didn't notice it before. Then again, I rarely claim the non-combat pets. Thinking it must be newish, don't remember them doing it out of the gate when they were fresh and everyone was summoning them.
  13. I guess I should have mentioned it doesn't happen consistently on every spawn, just randomly now and again. I'll see if I can't get a screen shot or three of the little bugger doing his thing, assuming he's cooperative.

He doesn't seem to do the emotes for very long, though. I noticed 3 emotes that mission, the one dance and two plotting, and the times he was plotting he'd switch back to the standard idle pose before the fight ended.
  14. Today while I was soloing on my lowbie Brute, I jumped into a group of Longbow and was amazed to see my little clockwork buddy dancing while he waited. The next spawn I jumped into, it looked like maybe he was using the plot emote, but couldn't quite tell since he's so small, and there were too many things left to punch to take carefull notice of it.

Is this behavior new to them, or have they always done this from the beginning and I was just too busy to notice it?

I think Double Fusion just walked away from us. Theres a game on the PS3 that caused a mini uproar over ads being introduced to loading screens that had their name mentioned several times.

Like any good advertising company, they had to piss people off by extending loading times to fit the oversize ads they put in, just to make extra sure people noticed them. The ads have since since been limited to fit within the normal load times of the game though, I believe.

Can't remember the name of the game, but I wanna say one of the Wipeout sequels.

    Edit:

The game was Wipeout HD. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/so...wipeout-advert

Link also includes a side by side comparison of load times for the curious.

They'd also likely pay for another 60 months without the offer. A lifetime sub at this point in the game's life would be financial suicide, or so expensive it'd be more economical to pay monthly.

No, the offer for Champions is only good till the end of the month, I believe, and will likely never be offered in that game again either. It's an incentive to get players quickly, and get a bunch of money back to further development. It's pretty much a reward for those willing to roll the dice and invest a semi large chunk of cash on an unproven product.

Offering something like that 5 years on would probably be greatly detrimental to the game at this point, all the long term players would immediately jump on it and start putting the pinch on the devs later as their income started to dry up.
  18. 33 year old male, most of my surviving characters are female, and most of my newly created alts are female.

When I first started the game over 4 years ago, most of my characters were male, and over time new alts underwent a shift from mostly male, to a 50/50 split, to now mostly female. I can't explain the shift myself, I just tend to delete my female alts less often and just started making more of them.

Of my surviving characters, 6 are male and 15 female.

Is there a work-around for this problem?
Not really. Lately the developers have attempted to consolidate the tailor into something a little easier to use, they've created new categories and moved items between them.

What you are seeing is the game not being able to find the items on your costume in the location it used to be in, and giving you a generic piece in it's place. Reset works if it can find the old piece in the new location, but that doesn't always work.

I have many characters like this myself, I took screenshots of them and then recreated them as close as possible. I wouldn't rely on the save costume feature alone for long term, I still write down the pieces by hand to ensure I can fix any more changes to the tailor with the least amount of digging.

You should have a stockpile of free tokens to compensate for all the changes, and you can choose to pay with one of those instead of paying with influence.

.\ is a shortcut to the root coh folder as well.

/bindloadfile .\mybind.txt would load mybind.txt from the c:\program files\city of heroes folder (or wherever you installed it)

    or even /bindloadfile .\subfolder\mybind.txt

Sounds interesting. If it has a plugin like NoScript, and isn't adding bloat with each patch like FF has been, I'd be interested in trying it out. Got a link handy?

The problems experienced above are unfortunate, but to be expected. I've been perfectly satisfied with how the RC has run on my machines, but I'll agree it's not ready for the masses. It's close, and obviously MS agrees since it hits retail in Oct.

There seems to be a lot of venom on both sides, which is silly. It's pre-release, there's bound to be issues... Can this thread die now?

You must have had some driver issues, which is unfortunate. Win7 is the first Windows OS I will willingly upgrade to as soon as it's available.

I don't believe so. I remember one of the old dev written "news articles" where the city council wanted to tear them down because they were not needed since the rikti threat was gone. I think it was supposed to be a teaser, but it was badly timed... by the time it was posted, the issue where the Rikti returned had already gone to the test server and ruined it.

I think that the devs really had no intention of removing the war walls, it was meant to forward the story and got obliterated by really bad timing.
