Again everyone talking about a REASON to buy the superpacks where I see the developers with a horridly stupid idea for purchasable content, break out the items to be purchased individually and you'll get most of the VIPs to buy them all. This way? Only for people who have the excess money and points, I want to save my points for a costume pack or a cool power and typically buy an extra 1200 points every other month to keep buying the cool packs they put out. Simply put, I'm going to look at those with the pack as foolish.
They are making plenty of money with the market now, make some teams that just do costumes and pump those out like a heart attack and fire your team coming up with new ways to spend points on worthless things. We all know you make more from people buying items in-game like unslotters that take no amount of coding once intitally made but that's cheap, we know it and we don't want that crap. I have enough respecs from veteran I can takes SETS off of toons, that and I don't respec before 50, the devs forget there are MANY types of players, I'm not an RPer but I know they're behind me on these comments as most of them are only there FOR THE LOOK.
Think of it this way, imagine I get lucky, get everything I wanted in say 10 packs, even the black wolf. Now you, you want them too and you buy 10 packs, get a few not all, buy more or buy 96 packs and STILL not get the wolf, as someone said. I'd feel cheated. From CHANCE the cost of new content can GREATLY vary, not fair in my eyes. Probably the reason I've been in the forums more lately, the game is becoming boring (I spend more time in the costume designer) and costume gambling didn't make it more fun. We do the same repetitive clicking and a better player usually means more time spent on the toon, it's not a skill game AT ALL but still fun for the social aspect. These moronic gimmicks, are just that and now I'm talking to my family of VIPs about turning off our accounts due to this, the start of more crap. Sorry CoH, you don't deserve VIPs if you treat them this way, I'm looking at other MMOs... -
Been loving the costume stuff lately and this new set isn't half bad but the way you're making us get them, I'm sorry but I don't want to waste money on the worthless stuff (to a player like me) and having my wife with an account too and we own everything so far as far as costume packs, extra powers etc, this will be our first pass until it's avail outright.
Feels like a kick in the teeth, no one was buying that stuff on the market but a very small few so you work out a pack to force us to buy them if we want more costume options. Had planned on buying more points but not for this, and lately been a real decline in our numbers, my wife suggesting turning off our VIP and she's NEVER suggested that before...
You guys need to quit the "gimmicks" you're making us uneasy -
ok jumped in my Master account, you can make more, I don't see the delete button, might be something that was removed or moved to the Support realm. I do see people on other sites through google talking about it in the master but can't seem to locate it myself.
-
Only way I could think of would be to straight up ask Support since the toons are probably lvl 1. I'm almost sure you can have multiple Free Accounts tied to your VIP account, there should be a way on the NCsoft site (when logged in as a master) to delete the free one I thought... then you could just recreate

Think of it this way, players with endless funds would basically be able to buy a travel power instead of wasting it with a power selection. This would mean for any player who can afford it, Fly would be worthless. Ninja Run and Beast Run do help but are no comparison for superspeed; the Steam Pack runs out after 30 seconds and without hover, you can't travel on a vertical plane easily.
The Rocket Board is a STRICT travel where it gives you great control and speed while not allowing you to attack. I applaud this power since it's available lvl 2, I do the tutorial (the new one is awesome) and right after I'm on a rocket board able to keep up with my higher lvl friends!
Yes it IS possible to make the Rocket Board a power where a character CAN attack while on, they've mentioned this, and apart from the obvious balance issues, the amount of animation to turn the "Power Slide" stance (used on the Rocket Board) into the starting stance for each power of the game, is worth more to Paragon than 600 Measly Points. I'm hoping they drop it to 400 points so someone can get it with their first month of points without being crazy like me and buying more points =) -
Quote:I must disagree with this suggestion and posting up repetitious posts is worthless. SGs are not cross server, they can share a chat channel but unless they changed how large SGs can be, the new forum setup makes more sense. Make a SG? post in the corresponding server forum that the SG exists and maybe in your forum signature includes all your SGs and locations. I run about 9 SGs on Triumph, Union, Virtue and Freedom and each one needs recruitment, but I wouldn't collectively recruit for the lot of them, especially on the forums of the game. Honestly, SG related stuff is better matched for your OWN website/forum not here. This time last year, I was speaking with theOcho about this change and how Repeat Offenders and other multi-server groups, would be handled or what options we would have.
So what do you recommend multi-server groups do in regards to SG recruitment? Posting up duplicate threads on the various server seems like a lot of repetition and if I'm not mistaken, is against the forum rules.
With forums the way they are, unless you get a post to your thread, it will get buried pretty quick. Less than a 10th of the players in CoH ever say a word in the forums and as SG recruitment is dying on the forums, they want to consolidate the subforums as they have too many. Best way to recruit? play the game. -
FYI to all, if you feel premium players are getting screwed let's think, they could not have access at all for not playing the way it was... least this way you can log in to keep your SG last login more "fresh". You can log in and check things out, even low level stuff is still fun, lots of toons I could make and not even notice my VIP wasn't there. LOT'S of people like to role play in COH and don't even level their toons. This new system lets people unlock things like costumes and auras when their interest in the game isn't in level 50s.
I just saw a girl come back with 36mo vet, and her highest toon was a 35, because she's a role-player.
I think the only "pain" this system will make is for VIP, NOT premium players as we now have to check who we're teaming with for certain TFs etc. as someone without IOs could prove less than helpful.
Seems to me premium works more like 1. Let the old subscribers log in 2. make them envious of their friends 3. they just WANT the sub again to be the beefy toon they once were
Only issue I see with Paragon Studios is with global channels, this is I feel the biggest issue as everyone needs to be in chat so when they see the "BAF forming" for the millionth time they decide they want a sub to join in! -
Quote:I have a hard time believing you work in the software industry if you can't see the difference between a server being actively played on 24/7 vs a new version of your product you probably had weeks if not months to develop and test the new version for I'd guess under 1000 users.I work in a software house that provides 24/7 service to the paper industry. If we screwed up a live publish like this, people would be fired over it.
Let me say I know a player in-game that had some additional issues with powers and rewards from i21 (greyed powers) and she spent at least an extra hour in petitioning and being available in game for a "dev" to help. She didn't whine or complain and ended up getting her 6th costume slot for free, had she complained like you? I doubt she'd have seen anything =)
I for one feel closer to the devs of CoH than any other game out there and would rather continue with a day of downtime each week. The streams are fun and make us all laugh, it's just a game, one we get to help test. Want a game without issues? Try one that doesn't add new content, I hear they don't need to do updates often.
Devs, doing a great job, despite all the unrealistic people out there. Working in the gaming industry is one thing, but on a MMO where you run the servers too?
Remember, Left 4 Dead may update and be ready to play, but it takes more than half the server population a day or MORE to notice and update and patch up. I bet most of you complaining about downtime have something you could do for someone. Look at the downtime as good for you =) -
Players! Remember this was expected with the new Freedom version and sometimes doing a backup > shutdown > upgrade > restore > dry run, can take a LONG time. And with some of the crazy people in CoH, like me if I had the money, the bonus they no doubt got from people spending $300+ this month might have forced the devs to upgrade earlier than expected.
This is still kinda a beta really it's just live for the paying people and I REALLY wanted this version but I expected TONS of downtime since running a 7 year old MMO isn't a small amount of data, especially with all the altoholics (me again) out there.
Granted maybe some people are upset with all this new stuff with the downtime, but really it's gotten me to pick up the area around my desk and was it needed!
Keep up the work devs, seeing long down time, to me, means work is getting done and I see my money being used. -
If you buy a subscription after tomorrow you will have access, they simply write it in such a way that a good portion of the "not sure" users will make sure to have an active subscription for day one use. If your subscription ends, so will VIP, you will need to have a paid account to have access during the "Head Start".
If YOU want a head start (on the download time):
1. Install the Beta [ http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=232906 ]
Once the servers are down for maintenance tomorrow
2. Uninstall (via the launcher) regular CoH leaving the beta folder/installation
3. Copy the Beta folder on your hard drive to the same location, rename it something you'll remember, I use plain old "CoH"
4. Use the launcher to install but look for the bottom left button "Customize", need to use this to find the folder you just copied. Say yes to prompts warning about existing files.
5. Wait for the launcher to complete
Up to you if you want to uninstall the Beta (I see it's in the launcher so looks like it would be easier to install that it used to, in the Launcher on the left it should be under "Not Installed" called "COH Subscriber Beta")
Remember the times are approximate so we may be looking at more or less hours really, this is a huge update, things will go wrong.
*We so need a web CoH costume designer so we can do something while the game is down =) -
-
Freedom and Virtue are up! and triumph is the only one "down" we're screwed
-
the "Unknown" status reminds me of Micro$oft's timer on a file transfer, there's info there, but it isn't helping anyone.
-
So you're saying we need to hijack this thread back to something CoHish? Freedom and Justice are now unknown... that work?
-
Hey the training room just popped "Up"
^^ beat me to it, Coon is always watching... -
Probably their offspring =)
