Ya, don't ever do this again please...

The only circumstance where instant lvling makes sense would be for PvP and that character would be relegated to Arena, raids and PvP zones.
If the developers ever did this, hopefully they would also institute a way for players to earn PvP credits to purchase IOs for that PvP character. Guild Wars has a similar PvP feature that the CoH developers should really take a loot at.
Hell, they should really look at how PvP is setup and zone raids are setup in that game.
Otherwise the purpose of lvling 1-50 in PvE is that its a time sink. -
A bit of a background and prelude to my question: I'm a perfectionist, selfish and obsessively independent.
I would like artwork of my character. However, given my personality I would not feel satisfied even given the option of commissioning the best artist to draw for me. So the only option I see is to try my own hand at drawing my character.
My questions are: Where do I start? what tips could you offer as I move forward with this project?
Keep in mind outside of scribbling flowers on my journals, stick figures on scrap pieces of paper and fixation with drawing eyes (When I do attempt to draw I always feel compelled to draw the eyes first and many times it's the only thing I will draw.) I have no real experience creating art.
thank you for any advice. -

Quote:I recently received a private message. The private message asked for me to lend 10 Billion Inf to the sender. The sender swore he would earn it back for me. After that, he stated he could make 5B in a week for me.
I expressed my lack of interest in such an exchange.
He sent me a reply asking if there was anything he could do for 3 Billion Inf. I have sent him a response that he could earn the money I have offered to commission some AE arcs. Also, out of the kindness of my own heart and general faith in the charity of my fellow forumites I have started this thread.
This is the "Help People" thread.
Here, players who need Inf help can ask for such help. Hopefully the sender of the private message will be able to find willing and able help in this thread. Feel free to speak up if you need Inf help.
I hope that someone will organize a fund for such endeavors. I am not willing to organize nor facilitate such a fund. However, I am willing to donate hundreds, perhaps even thousands of Inf to the cause.

I play CoV as if the Rogue Isles were Gotham City. Your heroes are vigilanties working outside the law.
You don't get that sort of gritty aesthetic appeal from paragon city. -
Quote:So your arguement is that the game would not benefit from new middleware, software, graphical engine? Sorry, not sure where you were going with this post.I think it behooves us all, to take a step back and appreciate what this game has to offer, viewing it as a Newb, rather than as Vets.
It's too easy to take all the little things, that are done SO well, for granted.
As above, the animations really ARE pretty damn awesome. When was the last time you really *watched* your character during a fight scene.
We're always focused on the baddie we're targeting, or to be targeted next, or the Health/End bars, or maintaining Situational Awareness of the "big picture" during a fight.
Go street sweep and really *watch* how fluidly and naturally your hero moves from one attack to the next. Watch how gracefully and precisely s/he Combat Jumps up onto a 3-inch-wide *railing* to target that next baddie.
Take a few minutes on your next commute and consider the "minute-to-learn-lifetime-to-master" aspects of gameplay.
Wanna jump in and blast stuff across the zone with an Energy Attack? No prior heroic experience necessary.
Wanna min/max your hero with purples and sets? Or Badge them to the n-th degree? That's in there too!
As with everything in life, it's all relative.
The game may not be P-E-R-F-E-C-T, but it's really pretty freakin' awesome, seen from a fresh, thoughtful perspective. -

I would really like to see the creation of a War Witch task force.
my questions for you all, what would you like to see included in a War Witch task force?
what stories come to mind for such task force?
I'm still quite shakey on game lore. Love to read others thoughts and ideas on what they would like to see as far as a War Witch TF and whether this would be a good or bad idea. -
Quote:At the end of the day i'm a realist, despite what lemur lad would like to paint me as.Subscriptions into the millions has nothing to do with how cutting-edge and awesome the various game systems happen to be. The 900 lb. Gorilla in the room with millions of subscribers, WoW, came out shortly after CoH and actually has a lower demand and performance design as far as things like graphics go.
Unless you code a new game every few years you're always going to be limited by old programming. i don't think there's any way a company could afford to rebuild their MMO every couple of years and not go under.
All that aside, i do agree with your sentiments. While a CoH2 would be cool, i'm still happy to continue playing CoH1, and i think Ultra Mode will make it as shiny as CO for the most part, and the animations of this game are still far better in my opinion. Hell, unless it's finally been fixed CO still doesn't even have ragdoll physics. The only thing that CO has that i'd like to see and doesn't seem to be currently possible in CoH is picking up and using environmental objects.
Would CoH be a 1mil pound gorilla? most likely not. It might actually spoil the sense of community we currently have.
Would I like more subscribers and a healthy scalable environment for the developers to work with..hell yes.
I don't like comparing this game to CO as I dislike CO very much. It looks like WoW to me and WoW is ugly. And I didn't care for the character creator either.
I'm hoping to be floored by GR's content and ultra mode (graphics upgrade?). But I'm also a skeptic. -
Quote:*shrugs* Not offended in the least. Thank you for allowing me to clear it up for you, before jumping to conclusions or biting my head off...Fair enough. Thanks for clearing it up for me. I apologize if my question offended in any way (Tokyo or FW).
Quote:But I think its working well enough for our purposes, at least to the extent that I would not want to see it abandoned in favor of building a new one from scratch, as OP suggested elsewhere. Especially since it is apparent that our Devs can still tweak it to get improvements, like the graphical upgrade in GR.
But, not everyone agrees with my sentiments it would seem. -
Quote:Then I rescend my use of horrible... they were limited by their knowledge, limited by their applications..limited by their hardware..limited by lack of foresight (can't really blame them for this. Who can see 6 years into the future as far as technology goes?) to me those are "horrible limitations."I realize that not all limitations are either malicious or ignorant, but I guess I might have been reading a "tone" into Tokyo's post that seemed to mean more than something that just happened because it's the nature of coding itself. Probably it was the use of the word "horrible". in the description of the limitations.
While I do not code myself, I know several people who do, including my husband. I have seen them tearing their hair out when coding doesn't work the first time and then they have to find another way, perhaps by adding a limitation or doing it a different way.
There is no tone to be read in my post. -
Quote:fear.Just curious, but these types of questions or points that are brought up about the engine and COH2 always get attacked. Why?
I see that a lot, especially from long time vets, not just this, but a lot of posts. That's all they are, posts. People on the forum asking questions or suggesting something. It's friendlier in game than on here, lol.
Just roll with the punches. -
Quote:If I go. I'll make sure to ask what new color hats they are adding, for you...Am I (and Eran) the only PvP'rs going to PAX? I ordered tickets way before the CoH bit was announced, but since it's of interest, I'll be at the panel and the Meet and Greet. I'm not going to be a jerk or anything but if there are any civilized questions in regards to PvP I'll be happy to bring them up.

Quote:Pft. Scan the portrait. Take it into (insert third-party photo manipulation software) and apply inner glow, multiple layers and filters. It may not BE acrylic paint on glass but if you can't tell the difference, who cares?!It's like saying:
Hey, that's a really nice water color painting on canvas you did there. But you know what? Acrylic paint on glass would be so much better. So, go head and hire some glaziers to create the glass, and pigmentists to create the whole spectrum of acrylic paints you need. Then, all you have to do, is transfer the painting onto the new medium... you know, by repainting the whole thing all over again, learning how to use acrylic paint on glass as masterfully as you used water color on canvas.

Quote:I share your opinion.I'm not sure if it's "impossible" per se, but it would certainly be impractical.
They'd have to basically re-do the entire game, changing all the animations and such over to the new engine. The game as it is now was designed with the current engine in mind, so changing over now would be a hassle.
However, who knows how scalable their system is. I've based most of my opinions off the idea that Cryptic placed horrible limitations in their coding which under-cuts the scalability with newer graphics, physics, rendering, software.
Maybe they're (paragon studios) hiding some programming geniuses in their basement head quarters.
I would be delighted to be wrong about the games scalability. -
Actually..even with a small amount of people redside raids tend to go fairly smoothly. Redsiders are just that good. d;D

Quote:I'm usually on later in the day 8est time. I try to run daily Speed ITFs, LGTFs. Let me know your global and I'll get you on a casual ITF run to level you up.Shucks I have no villian at 45 , oh well guess I better get my 40 villian to 45 before the weekend is up , lol
Welcome to the dark side. We have freshly baked cookies. d;D -
The first time I participated in Dr. Q, I crawled into a hot shower afterwards and cried in fetal position. That and my first TF experience had been a 4 hour positron TF with 8 members.
Sadly those experiences and a few other teaming incidences have colored my view of blueside.
I'd go with what Adeon Hawkwood had posted. Redside Sfs tend to go much more smoothly and in my experience are much more fun. -
Quote:I charge a fee, but it's off a basic 1:1 rate. (so I give 10:9 no matter which way you're going; 10:8 if I have to move inf onto the server in question.)
it's a carrier fee. Fullmens rude. But that's what makes him an ebil marketeer.
What server are you on by the way? -
Quote:Then why did you spend a large chunk of yesterday afternoon trying to argue they should make a sequel instead of continuing what they're doing?
Now you think it's pointless? Way to waffle.
I was pointing out the merits of starting from new. NOT that they should stop.
read and comprehend or just stop posting. Keep negative reping you're good at that.
Anyway, i'm done with this thread and I agree with Mod_08. -
Quote:I almost never invite any buffer AT without first quickly veting their build (if i'm not familiar with the individual). You had every right to kick the player but keep in mind you could have just as easily checked out her build BEFORE inviting them.ITF on Virtue. Many scrappers, some blasters, a tank, a controller and a FF defender.
First mission I notice a distinct lack of personal bubbles.
"Can we please have the team bubbles"
'Sorry, I don't have the small bubbles'
Do an Info on the L50 defender -- Personal Force Field, Dispersion Bubble, Force Bubble. That's it. The two team bubble powers completely absent.
'I like playing odd builds, this build can tank like anything when I'm solo ...'
It's a freaking TASK FORCE lady! Get your head out of your fundament and use the Dual Builds for a SOLO/PVP version and a TEAM version of your useless defender!
Had I been team leader, she would have been unceremoniously booted.
As it was, I was just along for the ride, and it was a very sloppy death-filled ride, let me tell you. We prevailed, it was 'okay', but it wasn't anything -like- the kind of Blaster Nirvana I thought I was enrolled in. :/
I did ask her if she also had a petless mastermind ...
Ex
here's a scenerio:
step 1: check build (or have a teammate check build)
step 2: If build is not team friendly then..
step 3:"Do you have a second build that is team oriented?"
step 4: if she doesn't, appologies and tell her you're letting her go.
