I agree with you completely. The way Marketing handles advertising for this game makes me feel like they are deliberately attempting to sabotage their own franchise.

p.s. I'm pointing out you shouldn't use bioware as an example because holding any game company to Bioware standards is ridiculous. Bioware can do no wrong.

Most games and expansions ramp up advertising well before that. Multiple interviews on as many sites as will have them. Banner ads all over the place(these should be going on for an MMO regardless of an expansion being near release or not). Taken a look at the The Old Republic website?

You hype stuff to make sales. Successful game companies and even terrible game companies do this because you want to draw attention to your product. You want people to constantly be in anticipation of what you are bringing. You want your game to be on the minds of potential customers all the time. You do not just sit on your *** and make a few website updates and then post a note about it on your own forums if you want to bring in sales.

Take a closer look at the game industry and how it works before you make statements like that. Bioware pushed Dragon Age so much that folks at Bluesnews and other gaming sites were talking about being sick of hearing about it.

The people on the forums aren't the ones who need to be reminded about COX...its all the other folks who haven't heard about it or who may not know enough about it to give it a try. Good grief...you realize that there are free to play MMOs that do more advertising than COX? That doesn't seem weird to you?
Please don't use swtor as an example. They honestly have no need to create any hype for that game, it's Bioware and StarWars. The Bioware brand itself sells the game.

However, paragon studios could certainly take some tips from swtors marketing department.

Having the same frame-buffer issue and after image problems described above on my 5770 so the issue hasn't been fixed live.

post-i12 the only time ujl ever ran a cold and a cold was ever seen in a vill ladder match was when we wanted to farm mm pets and had a storm that wanted frostworks.
Huh, may I see the build you have on your poison MM?

what teams have you pvped that have failed to spike your MM out of BG? Really like to know.

bringing a poison to a team match is like bringing 3 cold corruptors. gtfo.
MMs don't have the maneuverability cold corrs have. Minute your MM is out of BG he's going to be lolreked.

I'll wait for poison to be ported to corrs before I consider it in any teaming scenerio.

I love the o2 blast of storm, but self heals may be nice! Any advice would be appreciated.
If you are looking for a secondary with great parity with Dark go either Dark/Cold or Dark/Rad. They are both fantastic debuff and buff sets that compliment your primary and your debuffs and buffs will be greatly welcomed on any team.

It's great that you want to make a build that's more team oriented. I'd invite you to any of my speed runs with either of the above builds.

Edit: saw you made your decision already, hope you have fun with the dark/dark.

yah...completely disagree with this sentiment. Paragon city resembles more Metropolis city while the rogue isles resemble Gotham City. trust me the gargoyles, high gothic spires, Gothic cathedrals tiffany stained glass lend themselves more to the Rogue Isles than they ever did Paragon City. Gotham City is the very definition of a "City of Villains."

In fact I would REALLY like to see the Architecture of the two cities be dramaticly different. Paragon City should have the more modern minimalist style architectural design; this emphasizes the peoples hope for a new brighter future while the architecutral design of the rogue isles is more gloomy dark and antiquated.

storm is a situational set; works best in a dUmb in lab map situation.
poison works much better in a fiteclub match than it does teaming. If poison were ported to corrs I'd be singing a different tune, but currently I'd choose TA over poison on MMs, hell I'd choose TA over poison in a MM vs MM match too.
  12. I don't think composers are hired on as full-time workers so I doubt hey would "hire" him/her.

However, I would love if Paragon Studios commissioned a new Score for CoH.

The current score is terribly dated and I think developers seriously undermine the importance of the atmosphere a good score gives a game.

The whole "no dev team can beat the playerbase at the exploit game" is something that one day, I would really like to put to the test. The notion that in effect the farm exploiters are using the AE authors as human shields, and the devs can't get to them without going through the authors first, is a myth I would love to obliterate.
You're welcome to try. I won't bother telling you "I told you so" once the dust settles from the nerf fallout.

Unless AE rewards are handled "Much differently" (such as rewarding Arch creators instead of those running the archs) all the devs are accomplishing is further repressing the MA developer.
  14. Just a reminder guys, try and keep your posts to a paragraph in length. :P

    Dear David,

Most have expressed what I would love to see as far as art. (less blocky buildings if at all possible would be nice, give us more of a sense of vastness to the cities.)

    less like this:

Just wanted to chime in that this is one of the most productive and insightful threads i've ever seen a developer create.

Plus, you know the devs actually read the forums, right?

In any case, they didn't have a coherent plan to support the AE beyond simple technical improvements beyond beta, so they didn't have the allocated resources to deal with the problems that existed at the time. There's now an actual team within the development group now that is tasked with finding solutions to the problems with the AE: both Dr. Aeon and Black Scorpion have publicly self-identified with this group (its called the MAST team, actually: don't think I'm giving away any big secret there). They are actually, in fact, taking a more author-centric perspective on the AE and one of the meta-problems they are looking at is the issue of the disruptive nature of reactive patching to address exploits. Beyond that I can't comment on what specifically they are doing or when it might appear.
I find the fact that there's a development group tasked specificly for finding solutions to the AE exploit problems hilarious. What a waste of resources.

As long as AE has rewards worth exploiting, it will continue to be exploited. Farm exploiters are adaptable and smart. Smarter than the developers.

As such, why not 'force' the villain into a disguise? As soon as they enter a city zone of the wrong faction, they activate either a cloaking device or disguise. (Which supresses their powers.)

I'd lean towards the disguise, making them appear as civilian, cops, etc. The only trick, then, is travel powers. It's one thing for a villain to look just like a civilian or NPC...it's another for them to superspeed away.

The cloaking device would mean the villain would stay invisible...however this undermines Paragon/heroes, especially when the 'invisible' villain goes for a dance under Atlas, chatting all the time.

The OTHER option would be to 'force' them into a random new NPC form, a "Hero disguise." These would put the villain into one of many ultra-cheesy hero/costumes with corresponding cheesy names, ("Super Heroic," "Captain Clean" "H.U.G.S." "Miss Kindness," etc.) with correspondingly over-the top bio's when the villain is clicked for info. ("I love to save puppies! Your cash is safe with me!" "I stake out banks to make sure that no villain comes near them! Especially not <$villain'srealname!> ")
I've said it many times, I would <3 an event similar to the rikti event or zombie event where pve zones became warzones and villains could lead an assault against heroes if they breech the war walls...

Example: "villains are breeching the war walls. Civilians have 5 minutes to seek cover." WW would be a safe area, inside any building would be a safe area. The event would be timed and those 'arrested' villains would be sent back to a rogue isle hospital.

Unfortunately... this would be too much fun for the devs to ever make it a reality.
