So in the beta thread that is a catch-all for many powers changes (such as DP animation times, spines tweaks, etc.) a lot of discussion is bouncing around dual pistols and it's needs, since many see it's animation speedups not keeping pace with other sets gaining in snipe-power and/or useful-nukes.

    It's touched off another wave of dual pistols suggestions, they're all in there. (yeah, even the "take out the gun tossy in air, please!" cries.) Some ammo swap suggestions too. Seems to be a sore spot for dual-pistols players, might have to do with the perception that the melee gimmicks (street fighting, staff fighting, titan weapons) don't suck by comparison.

    As far as DP and it's "need," I personally think it'd be cool if swap ammo provided debuffs/effects, that no other blasters have access to (or rarely).

    Don't make one do more damage than another. Make us pick between things that are really hard to compare in effectiveness.

    I thought the -damage one was a unique blast set debuff. Maybe another ammo type reduces enemy run speed only, and more strongly than ice blast does, since it would not be increasing attack recharge? One ammo type handing out KB is also defensive in nature, but is it too prevalent in other blast sets to be considered interesting?

    What would an interesting defense-enhancing debuff be for incendiary, though? -to hit? *ah, these brightly exploding bullets are blinding me!*
    xx-%chance to proc a mag 2, xx-second hold on them? *cough, ah, these explodey bullets feel like when farm/kins use char on me!*
    Stacking make-special-last-longer? *ah, these tracers exploding on me are lighting me up, and all their holds/stuns/confuse/etc. are lasting longer on me!*

    I feel like properly-balanced choices like -dam, -to hit, -run speed, KB, without any offering increased damage, would be the kind of thing everyone could debate forever on, with no clear victor (and thus, a developer victory.)

    Spitballin', but maybe swap ammo shouldn't be handing out defensive stuff, but offensive stuff instead? (You'd hardly guess that now, though, seeing as how new blast sets keep getting handed heals like candy at halloween...) But if all ammos just boosted damage-dealin', what would they do?

    Maybe lethals do a DoT (bleeding), toxi does -resist, incendy is a chance to proc an xx-damage fire hit to primary attacks, and icy causes xx-damage every xx-distance the afflicted enemy runs? *ah, my joints are froze, it hurts to run, but I must!*
    Maybe one of the ammos, instead of that stuff up there, does that -max HP gimmick in one of those incarnate powers I never take? (so I can't remember which it is?)
    (Not going to suggest -def, since I have the impression that it's pretty negligible in the overall scheme of things damage-wise for several reasons.)

    My ramblings anyway. I dunno, is there anyone that thinks swap ammo is fine as-is from an intentions standpoint, if not a numbers view? In it's current form it does let the user decide whether to enhance survivability or offense...
  3. For an earlier reply, was standing at the tailor. I originally thought it might be something to do with the tailoring UI, but when it did the same thing when all I did was stand there, then turn on superjump and make a couple of leaps, figured not it.

    There was a bit of time where I tried things before the thread had replies, and honestly it all confuses me.

    Firstly, when "it" happens, I can tell that when it doesn't crash to an error screen, but instead freezes and eventually goes to a black screen, it's trying to do what I tell it to. Like, ctrl-alt-del. If I wait long enough, I'll see it lay down the blue & green colors like it's trying to put down the screen where you choose task manager or whatnot. Just that after 5 minutes, it's chugging so slowly that it still hasn't been able to do that, mouse pointer takes 30 seconds to move a few pixels over, that kinda thing.

    The part that bugs me is I've found that there's some value of time where, if I turn on the PC and dont use it for a while, when I come back I'll be able to boot up CoH and it'll run fine. It's really a pain to to check this kind of thing, but so far it's less than 15 minutes, but more than 5 minutes. Trying to run CoH less than 5 min. after startup gets me the above problems.

    I even discovered that if I play an MP3 on loop using windows media player within that 5 min window, my PC will do the same stuff half the time.

    The last bit of info I have is that for the second time in the last 5 or 6 weeks, while running netflix (which I use almost every day) my screen went black for 3 or 4 seconds, then came back and I had the little word bubble that said "your graphics device stopped working, and has recovered" (or words really close to that)

  6. after about 5 minutes in game, the program freezes making it impossible to do anything on my computer. either i reset it or wait another 5 or 6 minutes, after which it says "city of heroes has stopped responding."

    i've updated a lot of things, but nothing's working.

  7. For the part of the discussion hovering on how bad snipes are in general, I reminisce an idea I had years ago.

    I thought it'd be neat if sniper attack were a mode, like a toggle. The blaster gains XX damage, XX accy, maybe other things, like XX rech, XX end redux or XX range, and also gains full unremovable immobilization. Off-toggle it to remove the buffs/immob, put sniper-mode in recharge cycle.

    The idea was that all blasters have significant prowess at ranged damage dealing, and if one stopped moving, "set" themselves, they'd gain damage dealing buffs of some sort. Kinda how a sniper in a hide, or a soldier braced on cover, is more deadly/precise than the jogging, running, auto/burst shooter. Thought some variation in the animations vs. attack set might be neat, (like assault rifle takes a kneeling firing position, maybe fire blast takes a karate horse-stance, etc). Don't know how to address the snipe-less attack sets definitively. Maybe make the corollary-to-snipe attacks, such as piercing rounds, bitter freeze ray, etc better?

    Sigh, stuff of daydreams.
  8. I combined a few things playing my DP/dev:

    - /dev brings targetting drone, slotted it up.
    - took spiritual alpha for additional recharge.
    - DP attacks qualify for a heck of a lot of different damage procs.
    - the first two items left my normal slotting goal numbers easy enough to put three damage procs in the targeted AoE, the purple damage proc in executioner's (I have always liked putting 3 dam/rng HOs in the tier 3 shortys) and two damage procs in everything else. (I don't use piercing)

    So, I never have to put away the pistols vice aid self or judgenuke, I have 130% recharge on hail of bullets, and I just keep watching for damage procs going off, almost like scrappers keep watching for crit. I have fun playing it, anyway.

    Going musculature and overslotting damage on all fronts may be fun for you too.

  10. I keep seeing other posters' names in orange vice the usual white, and they all say "VIP" for their... rank? title? down underneth the avatar pic.

    So, I've been subbed to the game since one month after original release. Made a first post on the forums in... 2006? 7? can't remember specifically. My game account plays as a VIP, I even have characters runnin' around on Exalted.

    So, why is my name/title in chopped-liver, freebie white?

  11. Just got home from work. Yesterday was a nightmare trying to play a BAF. Everybody else on the full trial sufferred too. When we barely succeeded after multiple AV rezzes, oh, tons, TONS of uncommons/commons/10threads. Is this happening to anyone else on virtue?

    Is it still downgraded? (since nothing about the trials/rewards was fixed, and lag got worse, downgraded is the most applicable descriptor)

    Should I bother trying to find/start a BAF?

    Have the devs even acknowledged a problem to attempt to fix? The dev tracker shows little.
  12. What the HELL did you do to the BAF, devs?!

    The server side lag is five times worse now!

    The temps you said would work are in a worse state now than when they were just locked all the time!

    Uncommons are *still* the only things dropping after a Lambda and 3 BAFs for me!

    Please, please, please roll this one back, it's so bad in BAF even after turning off all group buffs/numbers that night/seige are constantly rezzing due purely to lag! Horrid!

    New laptop

    I had the same thing happen to me on my new laptop. I searched around here some, and somebody described something similar that went away after they downloaded graphics drivers, so that's what I did.

    Game runs fine, except that despite being an Nvidia card with all the ageia physx stuff, the game still doesn't recognize it as such and leaves the option greyed out.

    in the next couple of weeks, all characters will be moved out, and I was thinking someone might want a base of their own. The name of the SG is kinda limiting, but hey, I didn't create it, I inherited it from a MIA player.

    If we come to an agreement, you would become the sole player in the SG, because currently my last character on Freedom is the only member in it. I'd hand the base over to you, making you the super-leader, and I may even stay logged long enough to help invite a few more of your characters if you wanted to stack it with several alts. After that, my last character would be gone as well, leaving your character(s) in sole possession.

    I anticipate having all the enhancements/salvage out that I wish to keep in one or two weeks, so this isn't going to be a super-fast turnaround.

    If you're interested in acquiring this base, let me know what you could exchange for it, and we can start PMs if you'd rather communicate that way after an initial notice of interest.

    Resources on Virtue would have slightly more weight in consideration.

    Well, I think I'd better get plannin' on using some Radeon cards sometime soon. Wouldn't be fair to never try them after I've found out as much as I have on them.

    If you have time for a quick answer, I guess my last question is: are the 5870s worth waiting for (any idea how long a wait we're talking about here?) or should I tell the computer builders to stick in four current high-end Radeon cards?

    My current plans are to use a fairly-good vid card in the new compy to tide me over to the next big thing, but if the current high-end crossfire stuff is good enough. . . I guess I'm asking for an opinion.

    So, is crossfire/SLI talking about one card with two chips on it? Or is that talking about two video cards, no matter how many chips per card? Maybe I'm not understanding correctly what GPU means, specifically.

    If I get a vid card that has two chips, will CoX use them? or will it only use one of the chips?

    Does Pentium i7 950 work well with radeon cards?

    I've had the impression, over some years, that Radeon cards suffer from teh suk when it comes to drivers. Complaints of messed up ones, and never any updates. Is that the way it is now, with the current high end cards? How do you think it will be for the ones you mentioned coming out soon?

    I am having a new computer made soon, and I am considering my options for video cards in the immediate future, and in the near future after that.

    What I'm wondering is, does running CoX benefit, or use the benefit, of multi-GPU video cards? I've heard that some games, if you had something like a GeForce 295, (I think that one has two chips in it?) some games only use one of them. Something about SLI? I'm not sure how to use that acronym.

    Anyway, just wanting to make a good decision for my next vid card, and when Nvidia comes out with DX11 cards, I want to be able to pick a good vid card (or two?) at that time.

    Thanks for any info y'all can share about how this game uses hardware like vid cards.

    The common place

    (( I'm just guessing here, but I think that this opening is *too* open. There's no way to tell if this is going to be sci-fi, fantasy, magical, a dire situation needing help, or just a buncha standing around talking. It's not like you need to be super-specific, listing a threat or villain in multiple-paragraph-snoooozing-boring fashion, but just a little something so that we can get a sense of what this RP's "flavor" is going to be would help others make up their mind and decide if they want to jump on-board. ))

    (( I try to figure out what the "flavor" of each RP thread is, and when I do, I decide if I want in or not. If I can't really determine what the heck the thread's trying to be, then I stay away from it. The reason is that I don't want to RP for a while, and then later say "I'm done here, it's not really my thing." Yes, I understand that these things can be done nicely, tactfully, etc, but even using the most fluffy and care-bear of ways to say it, I would still find it an unenjoyable task. ))

    (( So, help us figure out what this one's gonna feel like. Specifics aren't needed, just ambience. Those of us that want to post in a _________ setting will come on back. ))
  21. I think Blaster: Psychic blast: Psi dart has a graphic effect that is in the wrong spot.

    All of the other psy blast powers have the effects that play near the character's head being in a position that is just in front of the face or forehead, like this Blaster: Psychic blast: Mental blast power here:


    However, Blaster: Psychic blast: Psi dart is now playing those effects behind and through the head, as if the effect had a new origin-point that is too far back:




    This is visible in-game in the character creator, tailors, and in normal gameplay fighting NPC's.
  22. I think the cyborg general's shoulders for female body types are hooked onto the wrong part of the body. Not visible when the character is standing upright, but as soon as a stance change occurs, it's fairly obvious. I colored the arms and shoulders way outta whack to help illustrate.
