  1. I hate it when that happens - everything can seem to suddenly get very quiet.... *queue tumble weed*
  2. They have said there will rewards for those that stay 'loyal' to their original side but have not said what that reward is.

I can't find a link to where it says this, could anyone help me out?

I agree with DrMike that TPing/KBing straight down usually results in minimal movement of a spawn.

I also agree with Dr_Communist about corners and other blocking terrain is a Wormhole's good friend.

From my own personal experience I also find that aiming for the ceiling can help (its kind of the same as aiming for the ground while flying but backwards) but this can cause a bit of scatter.

Also you can learn to judge how far foes get KB after a bit of practice so you can learn to place your exit point so the mob ends up in the same place as before. Again this can cause a little scatter and isn't always an exact science (I know I still get it wrong after playing my Grav/Storm for two years!)

  5. I dont meen to bring a bit of downer on things after the great news from Avatea (I know it made me feel infinitely better after hearing we have been listened to) and some of the cool stories people have shared but has anyone noticed they haven't bothered putting the Issue 17 news on the http://eu.cityofheroes.com/en/ website, only the US one?

BTW - I am very happy about this issue
  7. Just got around to watching the trailers listed by fatalnova. First time I have seen them to and loved them. They gave me goosebumbs to BlueRaptor

What they have made me love to see (and would be a fun way of advertising) is to see a CGI cartoon of City of Heroes. But theres just dreaming.
  8. Since I read the announcement about I17 I have thought dopplegangers but we won't know for sure until we get more info.

But I was thinking if it was dopplegangers wouldn't it be interesting if they didn't just copy your power sets but also your set bonuses! Could make for some interesting fights!
  9. I saw that as well that we're not getting a box set. After we didn't get an Architect Edition I believed (I can't remember if I read this officially or not) we would be getting a box for the next time around.

I know it isn't 'necessary' but like some I like to collect the box sets, and it would be nice to have a version of the game that you can install from disc without having the download it.

Like I said in the other thread it kind of feels like they have given up advertising the game outside of North America.

I don't think Shadow Wail was asking if you can switch sides without GR but if you can still team with someone who has switched sides without GR. I would believe the answer to that would be a yes.

Edit - D'oh, beaten to it by Dark Quill

Depends on how long you're willing to wait. City of Villains was released as a stand alone game/expansion in October 2005, it wasn't until July 2008 when the two were merged and you didn't have to buy both to play both.

If you're willing to wait 3 years then maybe you will get Going Rogue for free. But you never know, City of Heroes 2 may be released by that time!

  14. I think it would have made things easier if they just said you can pre-order the basic or collectors edition at the beginning of March but these would only be digital copies.

Thinking about it I believe they have not allowed the pre-order collectors because there is a box set coming out and those details won't be finalised before the beginning of March.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

From the looks of it I will get the normal pre-order at the beginning of March for main account, and just upgrade that at the beginning of July and then buy a Collectors version for my second account when that comes out.

And I would like a new shiney box for Europe to - kind of feels like they have given up on advertising the game outside of North America

I have not played electric melee high enough to truly (fairly) judge it, but what I have seen from others I dont think it will be an issue.

    ....

If I was to play this build, I would take Weave as soon as I could fit it in. I based the above build on the OP's build. With my Ice/Stone, when I took Weave, it made a huge difference. However, this was a long time ago. It was before the the change to defense scaling and a long time before IO's came around. (back when Ice was da gimp and I wanted something that was rare and a challenge. I also had the fire/ice burninator...)

In short...Ice/Elec will be fine with Weave and Energy Absorption. With different IO bonus slotting, Weave is optional. Others will say it isnt needed to begin with... but opinions vary.
I totally agree with you about Fault, I have that on my Ice/Earth its mitigation is brilliant. I guess Im lacking some of the higher level experience with Ice/* and I forgot a lot of Fire attacks have a smashing component which you are protected against

I would say Weave definitely makes slotting a lot easier and opens up options for you in terms of other set bonuses (Accuracy, Recovery, Regen, Recharge etc), as you can hit the soft cap on S/L/E/NE without but the focus on the set bonuses is very specific. Personally I would aim to have if you can as it can make things easier.

But, from what my brain believes and has calculated.

It'd be a insanely fun farming machine.

I'd link you a build but i'm currently multi-tasking in my Inventor 10 Class. While in college, the district computers don't exactly look nicely upon me installing things.
I was playing around with an Ice/Electric build the other day on Mids after Ive been enjoying the two sets on different toons. Your build looks quite similar to what I came up with except I took Lightening Rod earlier (like Ice_Ember suggests) and took build up later. I also used Eradication in my AoEs for the Energy/Neg Energy defence.

I think the only disadvantage from Ice Armour is the almost complete lack of protection against Fire. There is virtually no defence against Fire and you don't get any resistance except through permafrost. I tried to fit in Permafrost on my toon for this reason and as mule for the Steadfast Protection Res/Def IO.

I guess I was posting the above when you posted LM. Thank you for your input. I may have to make more than one to see what I like the best .

Gravity is a set that I tried many times, but I couldn't get into it until I fairly recently got my Grav/Storm up to higher levels. While it has several hard-hitting powers (Propel in particular), it really isn't that fast because the powers are slow to animate. More importantly, it lacks in AoE control to keep you safe while you pound away on single targets. This is why I feel it goes well with Storm, which has several AoE protective powers like Snow Storm and Hurricane.

    ....

Mind has Confuse (same thing as Deceive), a really nice early attack chain of Dominate-Mesmirize-Levitate, and some AoE control in Mass Hypnosis, a sleep. Sleeps work well solo, but are far less useful on teams. So, Mind is a great set solo in low levels.
Gravity/Storm is a solid toon to solo with. My Grav/Storm 'troller was my second 50 and my first 50 'troller and he is good fun to play. As Local_Man says Gravity can lack some reliable AoE control but I find that Freezing Rain easily makes up for that (espcially as Crushing Field doesn't negate knockback) along with the other knockback powers from Storm. I will say my Grav/Storm can have a little difficulty against EBs but thats mainly an endurance issue as some of Storms stronger powers (Tornado, Lightening Storm and Hurricane to an extent) can be endurance draining if maintaining/resummoning them for a long time.

I would also agree with what Local_Man has says about Mind Control which has a nice mix of damage and control. I paired mine with Trick Arrow which provides some extra control along with a boost to damage from the -resistance powers and Oil Slick. My fav tactic while solo on my Mind/TA is to stealth sleep the mob which then allows me to use Disruption Arrow, Glue Arrow, Oil Slick and Fireball without being attacked.
  18. Some more from me:

    Underused -
The tunnels: This hazard zone (http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/The_Tunnels_of_the_Trolls) inside a hazard zone in the Hollows is never used. I didn't even know about it till recently.
Boomtown: A whole zone with not much going for it
Dark Astoria: The same as Boomtown
The Safeguard/Mayhem Heroes/Villains: Those named Heroes/Villains you encounter on the bank missions seem like they could be fleshed out a bit, maybe having story arcs involving them.
  19. Overused:

    * Longbow - particularly on redside. They seem to have a never ending supply of grunts for you slaughter!

    Underused:

    * Coralax - You see them around a bit more than previously, but outside Mako they don't seem to have much going for them
    * Igneous - Bar a handful of missions in the Hollows you don't see them again.
  20. I think everyone has pretty much answered your questions but one thing to consider is going Storm/Dark/Dark Defender. This has a rather nice combo of Dark Pit, Thunderclap and Oppressive Gloom. Dark Pit and Thunderclap will stun everything and Oppressive Gloom will keep them that way.
  21. Well seems like news is coming thick and fast at the moment after a little bit of a drought.

Double XP, Dual Pistols, GR vague release date and Issue 17 announced!

I agree with Zachary here. I know sometimes the EU servers can seem a little empty at first but generally I have never found less than 150 playing on Defiant (my home server) around peakish times. Generally things pick up from about 8pm (UK time) but it helps getting into an active SG and using the Defiant Events channel but unfortunately the Trial Restrictions won't allow this, the EU lounge or the Defiant/Union server boards can help you out there if you do decide to stay.

And if you are in the UK you can get a copy of the Good vs Evil edition from shops for less than £10 which will give a months full gameplay plus a few extra little goodies to help you along if you still did want to give it a go.

I did try a US trial account for a short while just to see the difference and I didn't have any connection issues or reduced speed.

Whats wrong with the 18 month - I love the Samurai Armour helmet pieces

And the 33?? I can't wait for this, having a permanent ranged temp power would make the early levels even easier!
