I'm looking for links to any news media coverage of the CoX shutdown, and the player response (petitions, rallies, etc)
Anything you have, please post them here.

Well this is a pickle... I have toons on other servers, but used all my unlocks on Virtue.

Lost connection to mapserver, logged back in, then when I click the server the game hangs on trying to load characters and then dumps me back to the login window.

Props from Zwill to the earlybirds:

Quote:Dunno if I'd call this fight music, but I might as well bring this up now. SOMEHOW, back in the beginning of '06 when I started playing my first serious character (spent a few months just experimenting with everything), I went looking for inspirational music to go with her. And somehow during this process, I stumbled upon Gamma Ray, a somewhat campy, classic metal band I'd somehow never heard of before. Well... just about every song I could find by them somehow fit the feel of the game for me. It was heavy and fast enough for fighting, but with a lot of hope, which made it perfect for superheroes in my opinion. And then the lyrics. Lots of repeating themes such as freedom, destiny, adventure, etc. Gamma Ray quickly became the centerpiece of my playlist for this game, and never really got taken off. With this music so ingrained into my memories of playing this game, it'll always serve as a way for me to look back and remember what it all felt like.I was waiting for someone to mention that one. Seems obvious.
I'd also put up this ditty.
Ready for more fight music.
A lot of the music just works for heroics in general. And a number of the songs from their "Somewhere Out in Space" album reminded me of the Kheldians.
Here's a sampling of some of my favorites.

Guardians of Mankind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvrAhc19YXI

And if I was going to pick a song for our current situation...

Globus - Wyatt Earth

Looking down at this barren land
Once known as home before
Destruction, all the world
It's an ending we have brought
The world we wrote a million times before
And what we allow to break this all down
The world we broke a million times before
What should have been stunned is now all struck dumb
Cities they fell, life's a choke
On bittersweet warnings took for a joke
Misspent days, spent in a haze
Pumped from our factories into our graves
They must know that they're so close to bringing nothing
So they show
They've brought success at bringing nothing
The world we wrote a million times before
And what we allow to break this all down
The world we broke a million times before
What should have been stunned is now all struck dumb
Struck dumb
Still looking down at this broken land
Once grass has turned to sand
Hindsight's broke, sky is smoke
We've passed this point of doubt
They must know that they're so close to bringing nothing
So they show they've brought success at bringing nothing
The world we wrote a million times before
And what we allow to break this all down
The world we broke a million times before
What should have been stunned is now all struck dumb
The world we wrote a million times before
And what we allow to break this all down
The world we broke a million times before
What should have been stunned is now all struck dumb

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the long road and on down the causeway
Do they still meet there by the cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
****
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river -
Quote:Pretty much exactly what I was thinking when Ironik said it was mostly wanted for the Rikti material. That kinda made me do a facepalm, because an alien invasion to introduce a new superhero franchise in film/TV, etc sounds like the kind of thing that you do because you're terribly desperate to think of something for your heroes to do. And that's assuming the film decided to use appropriate CoH superheroes at all as opposed to generic gritty gun-slinging action stars (who are all probably wearing black/leather) because some research study tells them that's what they need to maximize profit.THE BIZARRE: Some coked-up executive likes the general outline of the story (the Rikti Invasion) but has no interest in superheroes. He decides to do the film as a rip-off of modern alien invasion flicks like "Independence Day" or "Battle: Los Angeles". We end up with a well-funded and promoted Rikti Invasion movie that may be a blockbuster, but makes no mention whatsoever of superheroes or Paragon City. "Rikti" becomes a household word. Rikti dialect replaces l33t-speak on the Internets. "Directive: consumption of my: underpants, d00d-being."[/COLOR]
Not that I have a problem with the Rikti story or anything, but that as a film? Ehh... the alien invasion has been grossly overdone in the past 10 years, and nobody seems interested in giving it much of a unique spin. If they wanted to be different instead of doing the typical "Aliens come in cool ships, aliens start blowing everything up, humans think of a way to stop aliens" plotline, they'd be better off having the movie take place post-invasion. I think everything that happens involving the Rikti after the invasion has a lot more potential to be original than the invasion itself. -
That would still more or less require the server code to run it locally, which has already been confirmed that we are NOT getting.

I can't find it now, but I know I read something somewhere that suggested this was still being planned, and that was less than 12 months ago.
-
So what exactly is this? An interactive RP board? Brainstorming for an indie game?

So, I went to order 2 copies of Going Rogue. I had to call into Amazon because this was the first time I was trying to order more than one item and couldn't find a way to determine how many copies of something a vendor has in stock. So while the guy is talking to me, he asks me to add it to my cart so he could check on availability. And then immediately his voice changed and I thought he was going to tell me that my account was hacked, or they were out of copies.
As it turned out, the change in his tone was the sound of a CSR being transformed into an excited child. "Wow, this looks so cool, what is it?!" I was then stuck trying to give him the full story of everything that was going on in less time that it would take for a supervisor to get mad at him. -

Quote:Do we just have to click the rating button, or like it with the FB app?in addition to this which may get some tv airtime is this adult swim bump which a friend made for me last night
link is here: http://www.adultswim.com/bumps/elvnsword/savecoh.html
I clicked the rating button, it turned red, but that doesn't really give any indication of whether or not it's "confirmed." -
Quote:Same here. I even knew there was supposed to be a button and it was sort of hard to find. It's not AS bad, but it reminds me of going to download some open source app where the site runs entirely on ads and then you spend about 3 minutes trying to separate the true download button from the one that "helps clean up your PC."I actually missed that little green button on both of my trips to the site, and only realized it was there after reading this! For those running No-Script or something similar, please "temp allow all this page" and click the green! You will have to log in to do so.
EDIT: Phillygirl, where do you see the recommendations? I can see the number of views, but the area between views and shares--where it looks like recommendations should be--is blank for me...
A lot of people aren't keep on creating accounts on sites like that though, especially when it's something they'll never use again. It's just asking to get a ton of spam.
Fortunately for me, I have an email specifically for purposes like this. -
Somebody is already dabbling with an emulator dummy server, methinks.

Yeah, I know it was intended to be silly, particularly the very end, but hey, if the shoe fits... -
So is there a confirmation that gametime cards will work?
Overall, very annoyed how NC handled this. Just dropping the bomb on a random day with no forewarning at all.
When SOE found out SWG had to be closed, they worked their hearts out for the final months to get something cool to the players, and let them see what the future was intended to be.
But this... who knows how many would've bought VIP again even just for 2 months? Give the devs time to at least give the game a proper sendoff. Sheesh. -
Got a level 34, Blueside, (freedom, non-VIP account) looking for enhancements at my level, whether they be SO or not, and I can't find anyplace that is selling them. Everyplace I've been to that is listed as a magic store on the higher levels shows nothing for sale. The only stores I've found that sell magic enh's are in zones below my level.

Quote:Love what Computer Gaming World said about about CoH. "City of Heroes blows a super powered gust of fresh air into an increasingly stale sword-and-sorcery MMO world"Sort of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of...s#City_of_Hero
It actually had an offline character creator, which would be so awesome to have again.
Edit; so beaten.
And that was in 2004. Gee, how much the MMO landscape has changed since then... *rolleyes* -
If Mishii does have some kind of insider information, it's quite logical to assume that for legal reasons, she isn't allowed to say any more than she has. NDA's and things like that. Especially if the companies involved don't want one another to know that they're in the bidding.
But I agree with the pessimists. Assume there is no professional savior lurking in the shadows, and focus on independent efforts to save the City. -
Poking through the website, came across the Freedom page, and irony caused the word "Forever" to jump out at me.
