Well, warshade builds are easy to mess up and hard to play.
I can immagine lots of peeps mess it up or don't think about how to play. I've had some pretty stupid warshades in my team i can tell ya that.
However, when one comes along that has a good build and does know how to play it... cheats i tell ya, CHEATS!
edit: oh yeh, welcome to a world of sillyness Stormdancer, flying squids and stomping lobsters await you! -
That's the build I was referring to in my first post
Thanks for the reply though! -

Karma's don't work too good in PvP, Acro's better still.
A Celerity or similar is basically Stealth, so it's incredibly usefull, though I don't think that+Hide+Stealth would quite get you to the cap at 50.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmmz, that means the leaping pool + invisi is worth going for then?
Anyone have experience on a stalker without haste to still get hurdle / leap ? Does the stalker "need" haste to be effective? -
Hey there,
I'm building a stalker atm for some lame pvp when I get him up there. He's EM/ninja, and i've been using the following build as inspiration for my guy.
http://boards.cityofvillains.com/sho...Number=5887557
With the new IO's, and certain unique enhancements in particular, it seems there are a couple of possibilities. But I do have a couple of uncertainties which a couple of u guys might know.
1st - The knockback/knockup protection unique enhancement (from karma set - def based enhancement), does this make acrobatics obsolete? Or is the value of protection less? If so, superspeed seems a viable option, saving 2 slots and a full powerpool. Vertical is made by teleport.
2nd - The unique stealth enhancement (from all travelpowerpool enhancements) seems to make invisible from the concealment pool obsolute for the stealth-perception armsrace. This way both invisible and phase shift could be dropped saving 2 slots.
together that would be 4 slots and a powerpool saved -> FITNESS! for both stamina (and therefore less endurance slotting) and unsupressed movement.
My question is though, are those 2 enhancements as good as acrobatics and invisibility or not? (I've read the invisible enhancement gives 319 stealth, combined with the power stealth that should cap stealth no?).
And also how does the general build including my thoughts sound:
Per level (zone) it would basically come down to:
25: superspeed + teleport (and tpfoe) + stealth + standard skills (no ninja reflexes)
30: added -> ET + swift/hurdle
38: added -> TF + Kuji-In Retsu(aka godmode) + Blinding powder(this or stamina - your thoughts?)
50: added -> mace blast + web cocoon + stamina (this or blinding powder, see one line up) + undefined power. For the last power I was thinking of caltrops (could work nicely with tpfoe?) but is open for suggestions
Soooooooo this is it:

I dont have a big problem holding scrappers, brutes and tanks with my ill troller, just run hasten, all u need
[/ QUOTE ]
I run hasten, and on 3 characters it worked perfectly - blinding flash + spectral terror kept them down np. But the 4th just broke out of it in no time on a couple occasions.
For instance I got tp-ed out of the hospital by the guy and actually got a blinding flash in before he could do something, but again - BF and gank me. Silly me hadn't stacked bf's in my inventory, so basically I was screwed at that point and just started to wonder if the hold+deceive+fear stacked - which it didn't... now i know
Oh, and I did notice a huge increase in people since I9 in BB. It's especially funny with my stalker, big groups are np for him. bu - tp - stun - placate - as - run like hell being chased by 5 guys -
Sounds like fun. If it's on union i'll be there!
-
Ah, that does explain why he busted out of the hold/fear etc so easily. It doesn't make illusion a very good set for stacking then. One hold, one deceive one fear instead of multiples of one. (spectral terror does keep firing fear effectively stacking it i gues
)
Also, deceive does sound really helpfull in teambattles or when the guy has minions. It sounds less effective in a 1-1 situation.
thanks alot for the replies ppl.
oh, and as a closing statement; I had my pvp "devirgination" last night, after which i posted this thread. It was great fun, I really don't understand why people bash pvp, nothing better then people hopping from buildingstops in spandex blasting eachother imo.
-
Thanks for that explanation - deceive is staying in
and the reason for the bf story was that I had someone on hold + fear + deceive, I heard some noises and boom, he was holding fearing etc. me. I just didn't bring that many bf's so basically i was screwed. I just kinda felt that holds have absolutely no use if someone can just pop bf's... -
sooooooo, deceive is useless for pvp? Or did i get that wrong?
-
Hey everyone,
I have a couple of general questions about pvp
- What does deceive(illusion) do in pvp?
- Does stacking holds help ? (as in hold + fear + confuse(if that does anything). Because it seems people can just pop a couple of BF's and not be worried about holds at all.
In other words: can you smash the BF effect with enough hold stacking?
- Which zones have the most people, most seem near empty most of the time (bloody bay the worst it seems)
tnx alot in advance,
Tim -
thanks for all the tips. This should get me a long way

7 ill/rads... and 7 fire/rads... lemmy think
7 spectral terrors
7 phantasm's

56 pets going at it. The team who wins is probably the one that doesn't lag out. Should be a sight though -
Nope, there's not. 3 slot health for healing, or just 1?

Thanks for the quick reply. Edited it to the build below:
Few questions again. With this build i'm running a little low on slots.
Which of the following has priority?
- slotting permafrost
- slotting combat jumping
- slotting hibernate for heal
- slotting SS for speed
- slotting SJ for jump
(The SS / SJ don't need slotting do they?)
The one thing that kinda bugs me with the build this way is that I have no SJ till 49, meaning I don't have it in 3 zones
- is crappy vertical a big problem here? I can immagine some mufftart fly-shooting me which I can't do a damn thing about. If so; which skill can be taken later in the build instead of SJ ? (i was thinking permafrost
)

Hey,
As the topic states, I have an Ice/Em tank. I'd like to take this guy to some pvp zones and/or arena battles. The build below is what I have come up with by reading a couple of other builds in the forum.
Now I know some of you guys know a lot about PvP, and i'd like some of your expert opinions
A few things I ran into
- Health or Swift ?
- Taunt; take or not? slot or not? - not sure how this works in pvp (what it even does for that matter)
- epics - which are viable for pvp, what are the pro's and con's of these viable pvp epics.
Anyway; this is the build, flame as you like

Spectral terror isnt quite an AoE, its a pet that uses cone "attacks". Its close to an AoE but not quite, thats one of the reasons you need something more.
[/ QUOTE ]
How spectral terror works exactly, i dont know. But I do know it works in 2fold.
1) The presence of the spectral terror makes most enemies scared and just kind stand there making silly guestures (aoe)
2) Then he starts shooting to make enemies run away (i think it makes them run anyway..) (cone)
The running away part is a shame if you have huge aoe dmg in your team, but the dmg control of the "make most of em just stand there" is awesome. Especially if you combine it with radiation the dmg of big groups is a fraction of what it can be. It's awesome. -
Heh. maybe my next character will be sonic/sonic. Depends on how much fun pvp is
Oh, and if you could send me that build, that would be great. (pm thru forum would be great). -
Awesome.. just awesome. Thanks for all the advise people.
I've decided to create an Ice / EM tank. The "I doubt anyone can kill you" could make this a great character to get to know pvp with as opposed to a squishy blaster.
Also, tanks are usefull in teams meaning I can actually build this puppy up to a pvp level.
And last, the monday night pvp? Is that on the test server or something? How does that precisely work? (not "how to get on testserver", i saw a post on that i can look up, but "what can I do there". If it is the testserver that is :P)
Also; I read that almost every pvp character has swift - hurdle - ss and sj. Is this correct?
If so i'm gonna go hasten -> SS and take SJ with it later. Unless that's idiotic and i should take some other skills, lemmy know please.
But, that's a concern for later, first i need to level this little guy -
Almost getting there!
Ok, so far I'm concidering these options, but I still have a few questions:
- Rad/psionics defender
- spines / regen scrapper
- ? / EM tank
A tank is good at staying alive - handy for pvp I presume?
How usefull is a tank in team pvp ?
Can anyone give me the pro's / cons of the Ice and Rock tanks in pvp? (invul I don't want... it's an asthetic thing i gues)
- Fire or Ice / EM blaster (EM being energy)
Is there a profound difference between the pro's and cons of a fire/em and a ice/em blaster?
Thanks, Tim -
[ QUOTE ]
Spines/Regen Scrapper. Your job is to aid the blaster with the damage. There damage might superior and it is, but you're very had to kill and your heals/regeneration makes you a very bad target. Throwing out a confront/taunt is very appricated by team mates as it well help them survive gainst other blasters/scrappers. Basicly you handle yourself and don't look after your teammates a lot and they don't need to look after you a lot. With Impale you have a nice ranged attacks to help you get running and kitting targets. This is why spines is best imhop.
[/ QUOTE ]
I read that /SR might be a better secondary for a pvp scrapper.. But aprently it's a [#$&%%] in pve and an endurance hog.. Can anyone give me some insight on that?
Spines seems a cool option I have been concidering (except for the rotten-banana look lol) -
Wow, lots of replies, thanks for that.
I'm sure every class can be fun, I don't doubt you on that.
The reason I posted this on the forum is not so much a matter of being the most powerfull (that just depends on your role in pvp and how you fill it in, and what you concider powerfull) but the roles that exist, and which builds are suited for that role.
I do know some people on this forum have a wealth of pvp knowledge and can discribe wich combinations work well in what situation or in which role. I on the other hand have no clue
The breakdown of the different defenders/controllers by Psydock for instance gives me an understandig of what roles exist and which AT - poolpower choices fit the discription. Based on that I want to pick my new character. (If I make a defender is sure as hell is going to be a rad/psionic. Targetcalling / debuffing / ganking is always fun..)
More insights would be apreciated.
Thanks again, Tim -
Edit: I need to press F5 before replying
Basically I prefer supporting characters, but I realise that those classes are hard to play well, so it might be a wiser plan to start out with an easyer guy.
If someone could reply with the "best" pools per AT and what their roles in a team would be and also what their strengths/weaknesses would be, that would be an awesome help for me to pick one.
(btw. I'm most interested in defenders, scrappers and blasters).
Thanks alot guys.
Tim -
Hey all,
As you might be able to derive from the topic of this post, I'm rather new to CoH. I did play guildwars and some older MMO's and pvp has been apealing to me in all those games.
Now, I want to get into pvp on COH, the problem here is that my only character at the moment is an ill/rad. I am not to sure how well suited this build is for pvp, if it is, please let me know.
I've been meaning to build a new character and it seems to me the effectiveness of a character in pvp is highly dependend on the AT / powerpool choice. So I figured I might aswell make the next character a pvp compliant guy.
Therefore I have been wondering what some "generally accepted" pvp AT's / powerpool choices are.
Since there's no post like this one on the forum I've been reading around a bit on the forum and I narrowed the choices down to the following:
empathy/? defender
sonic/sonic defender
BS/SR scrapper
ICE/EM blaster (dont know which EM here)
FIRE/EM blaster (dont know which EM here either..)
ICE/EM tank
Now this is what I'm wondering about.
- Did I miss any obvious pvp builds in my list
- Which of these builds is generally accepted as the most tolerant in usage. With this I mean not overcomplicated in use and being a good stepping stone to get used to PvP.
- Which of these builds is also usefull in a team.
Any insight on this matter is greatly apreciated.... I've pressed the back button on character creation too many times, and it's time for me to make a new one.
Thanks, Tim
