  1. I'm getting more and more excited for I23:

    -New Incarnate ability
    -New trial
    -Instant form changing

Now if they would only add toggle suppression...

  2. With Staff fighting coming out I decided to make a new character, for my secondary i chose /regen, as i enjoyed playing it before my hiatus (played from EU beta till I5 or 6, and came back a few weeks after freedom went live), but regen has been changed a lot since the Pre-ED toggle-IH days, (not to mention IO's.)

And allthough i'm starting to getting a grasp on this game again, I've got no idea what to build for with Staff/Regen, Most of the time i use form of the mind, to get my clickies back faster, but as far as slotting my regen powers go, i've got no idea.

The same goes for what power pools to pick. So far i've gotten SJ as travelpower, and opened up the fighting pool for Tough/Weave. Is hasten recommended too? And should i shoot for Perma hasten?
  3. Wow, didn't expect there to be this many replies already. Since there are too many to all quote and reply to directly I guess I'll just make some things more clear.

First of all this is all hypothetical, I know of no friends that want to start playing CoH atm

Secondly, a thing that came up a lot, the concept of "fun", offcourse this is totally dependent on the person playing, and one person might like to only play in teams, while the next one tends to solo 90% of all content, but what i actually meant with "fun" is the fact that some powersets only start to get great when they get that one key power, somewhere late in their development. (The only one I can think of at the moment is a WS's Eclipse, but there must be many more of those "powerset defining" powers).

@Armath, don't take my initial post as MM-bashing, my first lvl 50 was a MM, and it has taught me a lot about the game. I would still be my favorite char if they would fix the stupid "sure, I'll solo everything" pet-AI. (But that's a discussion for a different part of these boards)

If you start playing melee ATs from the beginning, then try any of the squishies, you will be like a fish out of water and flop around lamely until giving up and going back to the tough guys. A Blaster also teaches you the value of having a team- a new player would have a fairly tough time soloing with one. As well as learning to think about a fight and not just charging in every time.

So yes, I'd recommend a Blaster. Not because it is good (it isn't), but because of what it teaches you.
Interesting viewpoint, but if you want people to learn about team mechanics, why a blaster and not for instance Corruptor or Defender?

I don't think SR (or any def based secondary) is easy to understand. Low ammounts of defence do near nothing for your survival, the only time you start seeing any viable improvement in survivability is when you get near the 30% mark.
  6. A while ago I teamed with someone who said this was the first time they played CoH, in itself this is not very strange, seeing the influx of new F2P players, but what struck me is the claim he made about his AT and powersets.
A friend of his had suggested that he should play an MM, because that would be one of the easiest AT's to start out with.

Which got me thinking, what do the boards think is the easiest AT (And powerset) to start out with?

For this discussion, let's set the following rules:
-The new player has never played CoH or an other MMO before
-The new player has access to every AT except the EAT's
-The new player has the inf nor the money to deck out his character with IO sets.
-The character has to be "fun" to start playing with, and not only start becoming fun in it's late 30's.
-Please elaborate your choice, why that AT and those sets?

For me it certainly wouldn't be a MM, things like the Bodyguard mechanic, specific attack orders and what (not) to buff can be mightily confusing at first.
I think my guess would be a X/WP scrapper, where X is every set without a special mechanic (like the combo mechanic on DB or the Momentum on TW)
A scrapper because it's one of the more survivable solo AT's. Also it's quite easy to get a team. Another big plus is that most scrappers can survive easily in the low lvls.
Willpower: This is one of the easiest sets to understand, extra health and healing are concepts that are easy to grasp. Also it adds some res. Defence sets are a big no-no in terms of feeling powerful.
As for the primary set, "confusing" mechanics might make the game less enjoyable, other sets that just let you hit stuff untill it dies are easier to grasp than having to worry about combo counters or momentum.
  7. I guess I won't be dual-miring before my Void Judgement anymore
  8. I was wondering, does Judgement profit from boosts like build up, aim, sunless mire, etc. ?

On the one I-trial i was on, i could have keeped clicking "heel", untill my mouse broke.
Also, to keep spamming the same button over and over just to hope that it will stick sometime is like using ducttape to attach the hood of your car to the rest of your car. Sure, it'll work if you keep reapplying the ducttape, but as soon as you forget about it, the hood will come off again, possibly killing you and/or everyone else in the car.

    I don't want a work-around, i want a fix.
I don't mind if my ranged pets walk into melee before using their attacks, but i do mind when my pets try to solo a full map, dragging the aggro over to me and my team as soon as they die.

I am talking about the fact that pets and henchmen are now charging in to attack recently spawned enemies. Not just in Itrials. My Mastermind is near useless in the TPN trial because my henchmen desire to kill all the telepaths and citizens (unless in passive). They go after any of wade's freshly spawned minions. They also charge Siege despite him being too far away, as in my henchmen teleport back to me because they get too far away. If the devs try to pull this off as WAI, they will probably lose a whole lot of mm players until they actually decide to fix that little bit.

    This...

I've been playing my other characters a lot lately, and have been disregarding my (demons/time) MM. Some time ago, on a BAF, I alted to my MM, to put down some slow patches to help with the prisoner escape phase, it was there where I first caught wind of the fact that my pets were broken. As soon as NS spawned they started running all the way to the bivacs, not stopping to heed the "go to" or "heel" orders. The only thing that helped against them soloing NS was unsummoning them.

Fast forward a few days later:

A patch has gone live and once again I decide to check out my MM, hoping the pets behave a little better. I get invited to a Tin Mage TF, and start killing malta and warworks alike. Everything is fine, my minions do their killing, up till the bombs and director 11 stage. I unsummon my pets before we enter, cause we decided we wanted some of the badges. We click the glowies without any problems, and get teleported outside by a teammate, now it's time to buff up and take out the director himself. But, as soon as I summon my demonlings they enter the building director 11 is hiding in, and aggro him, thus forcing a team that wasn't ready yet to run in and make the best of the situation. (Suffice to say, we didn't get the badge from director 11)

And that's when i retired my MM, the character on which i've had a lot of fun, which was my first 50, on which i had my first purple drop, have a few T4 incarnate abilities, etc. etc. Before I22 hit i was actually thinking about sinking a lot of inf into a big respec.

I don't wanna play a buffbot with 6 unmanagable aggro generators, I want to play the general standing at the sidelines, ordering his buffed up troops around with a surgical precision.

    /rant.
  11. The other european servers are Vigilance (French), Defiant and Union (both English).
I've had a few characters on the Freedom server, because i thought it would be easier to get a team over there, even during European "low" times (late at night untill +-15:00). And while sometimes it's easier to get a team on Freedom, I feel the player on Defiant are a lot nicer.
No "PLZ POWERLVL MEH" spam, no chinese inf farmers spam, a lot of helpful veteran players, and an overall nicer (less aggresive, less quickly to be offended by jokes) playerbase.

As for finding a team on Defiant, when you join the "Defiant Events EU" channel it's easy enough to find a team for almost everything.
  12. I've been running the DA arcs and trials, and I've gradually been gaining enough threads and components to get my T3 alpha and Destiny slots.
Now I'm wondering, would i gain more threads when I increase my difficulty, so I will be fighting mobs at my own level again, or is lvl difference not a factor in how often threads drop?

For Judgement, the best thematic approach I've seen is Dechs' idea of using Vorpal. Warshades use tp, after all, so what better judgement than the Nightcrawler one? Barring that, Void is also thematic, but you may agree that you deal enough negative energy damage as it is.
I've chosen to go Agility, got a T2 slotted atm, so just a few more threads and I get my first lvlshift.

As for Vorpal Judgement, how hard is that one to aim? I am used to cones that work by selecting an enemy, not ones that just hit right in front of you, and I'm worried that instead of hitting all enemies in a nice cone in front of me, i accidentely teleport into a wall without hitting anything...

Though true, I asked those questions for input and opinions of kheldians that have a lot more experience than me (about everyone on this forum ), cranking numbers in Mids is different from hands on experience.

As for RP reasons for (not) choosing certain powers, that's not one of my concerns, I want a good character first, and afterwards I'll jump through hoops to explain his/her powers.
  15. I always cast it on my demon prince, since that's the one that normally stays alive the longest when things get rough. And staying alive longer means more Hellfire Imps that spawn.

With perma hasten/chronoshift I can have at least one Imp out 90% of the time.
  16. More questions: Which Incarnate powers do you suggest?

For Alpha I'm in doubt between Spiritual Core and Agility Core.
Interface is probably gonna be Radial Degenerative
And for Destiny i'm thinking about Clarion.

For Judgement and Lore i have no idea.

    Pairing beasts

What secondary set will you use to pair with Beast Mastery?

After having read through the description in the Intrepid Informer it seems like Time Manipulation will be a great set to pair it with, but since I already have too many /Time toons, what other set would be good to pair it with?
  18. The LOTG global +recharge does count towards the rule of 5. However... The 7.5% recharge bonus from LOTG is different from other 7.5% recharge bonusses. So in theory you could slot 5 x LOTG +rech and another 5 sets that give 7.5% recharge bonus, for a total of 75% global recharge.
  19. Well, i just respecced into a build much like the one above, barring a few of the procs that are more difficult to obtain, and a lot of the kin combat pieces.

And I wish i had done this sooner, what a huge increase in power and survivability... Now i'm starting to get it why they are called MF-ing Warshades...

    EL/FA Brute

I made this guy to farm AE, and since he exited Praetoria, AE is where he lived. But some time ago i started incarnating some other characters, and now i want that incarnatey goodness for my Brute too.

Can this Brute contribute on iTrials (probably won't be soloing him in DA), while still staying 1 purple away from the non-incarnate softcap?

(Biggest problem so far is the Inf for LOTG, Performance Shifter and Kinetic Combat)

Do you think this can survive 0/x6?

I can look for one of my old triform shade builds if you still need it when I get home, it's relatively cheap, and it worked for me. It DID have an absolute amazement and two pieces of soulbound allegiance (two of what are considered the cheaper purple sets), however. Stupefy and some frankenslotting can do in a pinch, I guess.
I can probably scrape together enough inf for 5 pieces Absolute Amazement and 4 pieces of Soulbound allegiance. But I don't have enough inf to slot every 500M+ recipe out there...
  25. Well, since the game is back up, this is my current build, Dwarf Mire is slotted with 5 pieces Kheldian Grace, Nova Bolt is slotted with the global enhancement.

As you can see, it still needs quite some work, but my characters aren't what you would call rich...
If anyone could show me a tri-forming build that can do what i wanted to do (take out white x6 spawns (or higher ofc) with relative ease and actually finish a mission without dying) without delving into expensive purples and/or PVP-io's, you would have my eternal gratitude.
