Yes, it is true - pets do NOT benefit from recharge bonuses themselves. Only the summoning power will recharge faster. So, slotting Hell on Earth for recharge still is useful, because then you can use it more often. But pets like the Demon Prince should not be slotted for recharge.
As for which one you should cast Hell on Earth on, I think the Hellfire Gargoyle is considered a little better, since it's more of a pure damage dealer and will benefit more from the to-hit buff as well. I suspect, though, that the difference between the two is marginal at best.

I always cast it on my demon prince, since that's the one that normally stays alive the longest when things get rough. And staying alive longer means more Hellfire Imps that spawn.
With perma hasten/chronoshift I can have at least one Imp out 90% of the time.

Temporal selection is, however, VERY useful for increasing the regeneration of a pet, especially the little guys. Which pet doesn't like +damage?
Chronoshift also boosts regeneration and recovery, while only your mastermind and non-pet allies get the recharge boost.

I have a Demon/Time Mastermind and i'm wondering which would benefit most from being buffed, the Hellfire Gargoyle or the Demon Prince? also is it true that all pets get nothing from recharge buffs?
