  1. Actually, the Research Salvage mission doesn't require you to go to the workbench. If I'm understanding you correctly, the mission is from Professor Boram? Research Salvage, right? Open your Missions tab, and you should find it in the list there. Select that mission, and it'll place a waypoint on your map, which should lead you to one of the bookcases. Then all you need to do it go over there, click on the bookcases (your cursor will turn into a blue hand when you mouse over the correct one), and read about salvage. Then go back to your contact and he'll give you another mission.

Hope that helped If not, hopefully we figure it out! The mission to create an Invention origin enhancement isn't until later in the tutorial, if I'm understanding where you're at in it, and you will get all the components you need to make the recipe from the contact.
  2. zomg Wolfie! They're coming out of the woodwork lately.
  3. Oh god the cow!

Welcome back. I came back a little while ago too, much to the probable dismay of some.

Why would a Windows user desire a Mac-like interface?

Read that any way you like.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My laptop that I've had for several years is a Powerbook. I like Apple design aesthetics, but I've since realized that what I do on a Mac doesn't really justify the cost. I love my Powerbook, but it was never a Windows-killer for me.

Before an XP service pack broke it, I had a custom Vistamizer theme too. I like mucking with Windows, I guess.
  5. Here's mine. I also hate having icons on my desktop. The thing at the bottom is ObjectDock, with my most-used programs on it. The docklet right of PSP 8 is the test server, and the cool hero/villain docklet is CoH itself. I think it's pretty nifty. The wallpaper's from the old PlayNC site, when it used to rotate backgrounds. I liked the Ghost Widow one so much I snagged it for myself.

I'll have to check out Fences, though, it sounds right up my alley. And it's made by the same people who made ObjectDock.
  6. I remember reading about it on Matt Miller's blog (I think)...or one of the podcasts I was listening to mentioned it. I don't remember all of them, but Manticore was Orion.

It sounded like a lot of fun, I wish I could've been there. Wonder if he's running another this year.
  7. I agree with not allowing AT respecs, but should they ever allow a powerset respec I would hand deliver one of those gift baskets to Paragon Studios. I know it probably won't ever happen, but I'd still be so happy.

Basically, one of the first characters I ever made was a katana/invuln scrapper. I was never super happy with /inv, but I made do because there wasn't a better option for "just naturally tough" at the time. I love her backstory and costumes, and badged the heck out of her and played her up to the mid-30s. And then I kinda quit playing her, because I realized I just don't really like /invuln.

Then the devs came out with Willpower. Oh ye gods and little fishes, it's perfect for her! But...I am allergic to deleting characters. It's a personal failing, I know (and I say that without any snark). Not to mention, she has a ton of badges, and her default costume is something you just can't get anymore. So, ain't no way I'm deleting her. Transferring her to another server and finally rerolling to katana/wp is something I MIGHT do, but man...I still hold out hope for the tiny fraction of a chance they'll allow powerset respecs.

Course, all that said, I totally get why they don't want to do it. I should just suck it up and deal. Who knows, one of these days I might even find the powerset fun again.

Does he need to be hit once by each person on the team, or does it take a few minutes for the ray gun to take affect? When I did the taskforce, the final Reichsman stayed phased for several minutes after we started the fight. I know others on the team were using their grounding rays, and I personally used mine three times. Each time, it said my target was unaffected by it, the standard "He's phase shifted, you can't touch him" message. During that time, he was unaffected by any of my attacks or taunt as well, causing him to tear through the team.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think this may highlight something: Task Force Reichsman may be bugged. I ran this last night and never saw him phase shift. Our team sort of staggered shooting him with the gun, since we had no idea when we should use it. It never seemed to have much effect.

(For the record, ran it with 1 ill/kin troller (me), a rad/* defender, 2 blasters, 1 tank, and 3 scrappers, I think. Took us awhile, but we took him down without major problems.)

And Horatio, hey. Just today I was listening to an old episode of 2d6 Feet in a Random Direction that you guest-starred on, and wondering if you had a redname. Welcome to the boards.
  9. I might be a little late too. Going to a Guitar Hero World Tour party today, but I'm hoping we'll be home before 9. Looking forward to it! And I'll have some booze all ready.

plz explain more on how standing up for what i believe and keeping morals and values intact

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thank you for conflating cross-dressing with immorality. That is incredibly bigoted.

Also, you calling someone out on "sexism" and calling troll is comedy gold. For the record, Mulan dressing up as a man (which she did- and by your definition, would that not be cross-dressing?) was because of the limitations of the time period. Yes of course women can be soldiers- they couldn't in China in ~581 AD (I don't know exactly when Mulan is supposed to be set, so if I get that wrong, apologies). You making a sexism argument there is absolutely mindboggling.

They are criss-crossed with scars all over, which are most definitely NOT whip marks.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Noted. It's been quite awhile since I've done any Carnie content, so I haven't looked closely lately.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
I take it you never read the bio on Bronze Strongmen.

The Strongmen of the Carnival of Shadows are capable of amazing feats of strength. The Bronze Strongmen are recruited for their potential and are dominated by the Ring Mistresses. They are then put through a rigorous training regimen to achieve their Herculean physique and are sealed in their helmets.

CoH is a smorgasbord of BDSM.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Honestly, I figured there were probably more, but my brain could not conjure them up. And Strongmen also have whip marks on their backs if I'm not mistaken.

The smorgasbord isn't even out of type for the superhero genre, considering in some incarnations Wonder Woman is a BDSM fantasy gone wild. Among many many other examples, of course.

Where the hell were you when Silver Mantis was added into the game?

Yeah, didn't think so. Grow up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh hey, I forgot about her. So Domi's not the only one.

I said that allowing cross dressing in a game that kids play is a bit concerning.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I completely disagree. Also, fine, go back up to my post and mentally change "gender" to "cross-dressing" or "transvestism". The point still stands.

    [ QUOTE ]
like it or not but im not the minority but the majority in society.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Amazingly enough, that doesn't make you right.
  15. <QR>

This is amazing. I really can't believe I get to bring this up twice in one day.

Canon example, been in the game for as long as the Praetorians have: Dominatrix. Gimp squad for minions/Lts/bosses, complete with pain sticks and a fetishy look. All but spells out incest in her character description.

There is already innuendo in this game that's far more "out there" than people being able to change genders, and it was created entirely by the devs. I don't even know what to say to threads like this, other than it is incredibly close-minded and insulting to imply that transgenderism is deviant and something that should be hidden away.

Bigotry is what isn't appropriate for this game.

And before anyone thinks I personally have a problem with Domi and her whole clan, because I have brought her up a bit lately: I don't. I like the character, I think she's interesting, and in no way do I think she should be removed or changed (although her implied relationship with Tyrant is a little squicky). I could say something about the only canon fetish character being a supervillain (kinksters are not inherently evil- not saying the devs think they are, though), but that's more deconstruction than I feel like doing for this game. But every time people get up in arms over GLBT supergroups, players, or whatever "violating" the Teen rating, I can't help but facepalm and wonder how they missed something that's far more sexually explicit and spelled out in the game canon.

It'll be good practice for reading the Walls-O-Text here on the forums?

I dunno, I read that except, and it was confusing, but I enjoyed reading and rereading sections of it. It remains something I wouldn't mind reading out on the dock.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is an excellent attitude to have going into Finnegans Wake. I both love and hate Joyce (Ulysses ), but it really is about the experience of reading it more than anything else.

...... Half my global don't even light up...... about every account has a fire kinetic controller. but nooooo it's ok.....

    [/ QUOTE ]

They probably are hiding from you because they don't want to deal with your poor grammar and sentence structure.

As for "about every acount," I hereby call for a vote, anyone who doesn't have a Fire/kin troller please speak up! I put myself on the list as #1.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I have an ill/kin and a fire/rad!

...oh god did I do that wrong

The ill/kin is one of my favorite characters ever. So much fun.
  18. I currently have an impressively bad headache. If it's gone when I get up tomorrow, I'll be there, but otherwise if I don't show up that's why.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
You have to be careful, though, as you can also pull it out of 'available to be sucked dry when Rommie goes down' range, which leaves you with the healing Nictus to deal with; when we accidentally did this, we had to put our Stalker up front to 'tank' the Nictus while everyone else whacked it from outside of its healing range, a long, slow grind.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True, I think the Nictus has to stay in Rommie's LOS.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
On my first run we ended up killing the kooshballs one by one while someone tanked Romulus.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Last run I was on there were two tanks. I pulled the healing fluffy away from Rommie and kept it taunted. You can't pull the fluffies too far or they ignore you and head back to Rom, but you can get it out of heal-the-AV range.
  21. Okay, what story arc are y'all talking about that refers to Strongmen as possibly undead? I don't remember that, but I probably missed it or it flew over my head.

I don't need to assume they were male. They were male. Some of the things that came out of their mouths, females dont say.

    Period.

    End of story.

    Hahaha what

Protip: Women are human beings, and can and possibly will say anything another human would. Women do not all act a certain way. I'm pretty sure I could come up with some things that would make a Marine blush, but it doesn't change my gender.
  23. I think it's a fun idea. I'm interested, depending on when it happens. I used to hang out on Hank's vent back in the day, but it's been ages. With all the crap going on lately with my family, it'd be nice to chat and just have fun, I think.

I managed to get a really cool screenshot of Vanessa's psyche leaving the bodies of some defeated Carnies: Here

    [/ QUOTE ]

Whoa, never saw that before! I may have to reset my graphics setting...

    [/ QUOTE ]

lol I said the exact same thing. Will be double checking my graphics settings the min. I get home after work.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I pretty much run with everything on max, I think. That screenshot was pure luck, though- I was mashing printscreen to catch my friend on the left dinging 50, and it happened to catch that too. Now that I know it's Vanessa, it's even cooler. One of my favorite shots I've managed to get.
