If your at the stage where you need to create an enhancement Invention, the proffessor has given you the desired salvage, simply click the blue desk as you did, go to "invention" along the list in the window that pops up, and you should have the option to "create" one enhancement of your level, infact you get to choose before this stage.
If this is the invention tutorial giude? then thats pretty much all you need do, with each step taken in the tutorial just follow the instructions and follow your yellow marker as it'll direct you to where you need to be.

In invention I have 3 different items: Boresight, Simple chemical and Spell Scroll. I had these allready before I started this mission, I didn't got any additional Inventions.
When I click 'Reciepes' from my bar on the lower left with my powers. There I see 1 invention: Damage (Recipe) [level 10] which seems to need: 3400 infuence, 1 Inanimate Carbon Rod and 1 Brass.
But I'm not sure that has anything to do with it since as soon as I click the workbench the Recieps windows closes and vice versa.

Hmm, so he's asked you to create an invention using the workbench right? at this stage he should give you some items of salvage for free to create said invention.
When you open up the workbench are any of the inventions in that list able for you to create?

Actually, the Research Salvage mission doesn't require you to go to the workbench. If I'm understanding you correctly, the mission is from Professor Boram? Research Salvage, right? Open your Missions tab, and you should find it in the list there. Select that mission, and it'll place a waypoint on your map, which should lead you to one of the bookcases. Then all you need to do it go over there, click on the bookcases (your cursor will turn into a blue hand when you mouse over the correct one), and read about salvage. Then go back to your contact and he'll give you another mission.
Hope that helped If not, hopefully we figure it out! The mission to create an Invention origin enhancement isn't until later in the tutorial, if I'm understanding where you're at in it, and you will get all the components you need to make the recipe from the contact.

I don't see anthing there.
I made a screenshot from what I see when clicking the workbench, I also opened the 'salvage' window as well as the mission window.
If this is what I think it is, you have two tasks. The first is to research salvage in a book/bookshelf. There should be a glowie nearby in the library. After that, you must gather salvage, which requires you to go to the building next door, which will give you the salvage needed for the recipe you have.
You are not actually using a recipe or salvage yet!

LOL, I told you I'd feel stupid when someone told me how, I was so focussed on that workbench and do stuff with it, that I didn't pay any attention to the compass to follow and indeed simply click on a bookcase nearby. 
Well thank you all for your help, now I can continue and try to reach lvl11 still this evening.

Wait wait wait. You have to Research the Salvage first. To do this you click on the book case next to Boram, not the Invention worktable.
After Researching the Salvage you will then get a mission to retrieve the salvage.
Later you will get the mission to Create an Invention, where you get to choose from a number of generic IO recipes one you can craft. When you choose the Recipe you will then be given the Salvage and Recipe you need to actually craft it.

Hiya,
This will be prolly one of these questions once answered I will feel very stupid and very noobish.
I have a Missions "Research salvage" ( http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Professor_Boram )
Maybe it's since I'm not a native English speaker, but I just cannot figure this mission out.
1st of all that "Workbench" is that in the library the 3x3 square with blue glow? When I click it my avatar takes a 3x3x3 cube in it's hands and I get a window with 'all' on top but with nothing in.
I tried to drag some of my 'salvage' items in there but nothing happens.
According to the proffesor I should be able to buy some salvage stuff there? But that doesn't seem to work for me.
can someone help me out, how this works?
