  1. Having played Ice, Shield, Stone, Inv, and WP to 50 (and Dark to 30), I'll cast a vote for Stone. You get DEF/RES to all but Psi, DDR, and a self heal. If you drop out of granite, you can get DEF to all but fire and ice. You are also not dependant on having mobs around for healing or buffs.

Movement restrictions can be overcome by teleport (if desired, I skipped it) IOs for run speed, and being aware of your surrondings and using taunt to bring the bad guys to you.

Yes, a kin is always nice to have on any character but I by no means require one on a stone tank. Granite + Rooted on a well built stoner can manage LR on SO enhancements... I did it many times right after issue 9 hit and I had a SO/HO build at that time... it sure as heck can do it with an IO build.
I've tanked a fully buffed LR unassisted on my stone as well, but I need 2 small blues to floor his accuracy until the blue tower is down (and then I don't need any inspirations at all). I'm curious to see your build; do you mind posting it?

Agreed. Any set can tank any content in the game, either through SOs, IOs, insp, player skill, or any combination thereof.

I don't play any other toon but my stone/stone now so of course I'm partial to that set.

The missiles from the Kronus Titan will also knock you back while in Granite. I think one of Scirocco's attacks from the STF can as well.

One thing your build is reminding me is I might need to work more regen into my build.
I did sacrifice quite a bit of it for the positional defense and psi def/resistance.

Still looking for more advise/answers before I make a second draft, hopefully I'll have time to search for more knowledge this weekend.
No problem. Let me know what you come up with; I know have a free respec to use. :-)
  7. My current stone/stone build. Went for maneuvers instead of stealth since its a constant and team buff. Haven't done the LRSF, but if I get around to buying GR I'd like to.

    This.
  9. One of the main problems with the aggro cap is once you reach it taunt, a power specifically designed to pull enemies off teammates, becomes worthless.
  10. I remember the game with no AOE and aggro limits. I disagree with both. What difference does it make if a tank can herd the entire map and a blaster can kill them all? People will power level their toons?!? Has that been eliminated?

As has always been the case, whenever new restrictions are put into place people will either game the system to find a way around it, discover new ways to play how they want, or leave.
  11. In my opinion, if you take taunt and get plenty of runspeed IO bonuses, the requirement of teleport is lessened somewhat. I would go with typed defense bonuses, since granite gives you a chunk of those.

Here is my current stone/stone build.

Incidentally, I took Super Speed as my travel power.
Very true. In the age of IOs, the speed penalties associated with granite are overrated.
  13. Here is my current (hopefully final) build. I run granite exclusively, unless enemies are all Psi. I'm a lazy traveler, so I went with fly.

As hard as you can try to turn the cones away they keep jumping behind you.

Truth is being the last man standing is nothing to brag about. Either the team didn't respect the enemy and game mechanics enough or the tanker might of been fixated on some minion whilst the team were taking the brunt.
Agreed. And with the AOE, taunt, and aggro limits, there is only so much a tanker can hold before the mobs start looking for something else to beat on.
  16. The other interesting thing was the person had obviously spent billions on this build so even if you were to get ahold of it, its doubtful most people would have the resources or inclination to duplicate it.

*Unless one intentionally makes sub-optimal choices to throw people off the trail to their "secret build". That right there is a cunning plan.
Part of the secrecy may be the fact that before ED, IOs, and set bonuses, builds used to be simpler.

Yeah it feels like you are giving up the recipe to Coke. But, as others have pointed out, its easy to replicate a build with the power listing, set bonoses displayed, and Mids (if you have the time and patience!).
  19. I had a discussion recently with a player about builds. The person has not and would not (ever) give out their build, which got me thinking: are builds meant to be a closely guarded secret?

    Purple sets?

From a stone perspective, we can use all the recharge we can get so I have added purps to some attacks to offset the penalties of granite.

We just got word of a break-in at a warehouse and all our other black and whites are tied up. Can you handle this one for us? Shouldn't be a big deal for you. (This arc is recommended for a team of experienced characters)

    Great thread, thanks!
  22. I'd like to add 91887 and 50715 to this list.

Allow bases to be public by selection of an option in the SG interface, so that those of us that wish to showcase our designs can do so.

There is already an option to do this (sort of), with the leader teammate permission. Unfortunately, this feature has been broken for months.

Personal items that are truly personalized, in a way that identifies to whom it belongs as well as tying into the character in a personal way.

I would add make them free or very inexpensive.

Please fix base raids as well; my SG has all but stopped doing them as we either get lots of DCes (sound loops) or power lag.

Cryptic has failed to deliver an advertised feature of CoV in a working format a full callendar year after the game went live. Had the Cathedral of Pain and Base Raids showed up in anything vaguely resembling a timely manner, there would probably be a much higher level of interest in Bases, despite the flaws in the system that many posters have listed here. For whatever reason, whether it be lack of staff resources, focus shifting to other priorities or indeed other projects at Cryptic, this is a pretty big failure on Cryptic's part.

You are absolutely right. We are working as hard as we can, but that doesn’t excuse it.

Thank you. Admitting there is a problem and that you are working on fixes helps stem player frustration. But I personally would not like to see any more aesthetic options added to bases until some fixes have dropped.
