Stone/Fire tank build question.
You don't have as much def, res or regen that's obtainable, whilst not a huge hole as you could still tank, it's something I wouldn't swap in favour of run speed. You will with rooted on be running at the speed of someone that has unslotted swift and sprint on which is pretty cool though.
Your build can't happen as Focused Accuracy is placed in a way that you can't ingame. I would suggest something else anyway as its an end hog you shouldn't require to do your job as you have mudpots and taunt.

He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
Oh no my bad. If you don't use the link but instead copy and paste the text Foc Acc in its description says "This power has been placed in a way that is not possible ingame...
but then it says:
You can not take this power because your a Tanker.
I didn't read that bit. I was at work so not thinking thoroughly about this or work I got a bit bored with the repetitive parts of the designs I do and so had a quick post.
From copy and paste in (I didn't use the link as it leaves traces of the builds in another folder) it's buggy but I'll look again now I am at home.
Edit: right looked at build and shaved off some 3% runspeed for some extra survivability, more +hp over time from earths embrace so more regen, more regen from a heal in rooted, more def. 3% being a small boost and 1 mph difference not being noticeable its abit like working back over what can be lived without.

In looking over your build I have to ask, do you have the 60 month veteran badge? If you don't your build will not work as you've picked Teleport without any prereq at a level before it's available.
Have you already bought the Kinetic Combat IO's? They're very expensive and hard to come by; some of them I've seen in the 100 million or more price range. Frankly on a Stone tanker I prefer slotting Crushing Impact for the recharge bonus than working on more defense.
For another thing, I would strongly suggest different slotting for Earth's Embrace... my favorite slotting for all powers of that type is 5 Doctored Wounds.
Stone Skin works just fine with a single slot, I toss the Steadfast Res/Def unique in there and call it good. I also delay Stone Skin until later in the build but that can be argued either way.
In my opinion you're probably overslotting Health; the uniques are nice but I'm unsure just how useful they are to you.
Uh, Rooted at 22? I'd really suggest moving that MUCH earlier; I've never delayed a mez shield on a tanker past level 10.
I'd change your power order around some and get Fire Sword Circle much earlier... I'd slot it up better as well. My personal feeling is that as a tanker there's always better powers available than Build Up; I never spec it in a tanker build.
Brimstone and Crystal armor I've found to be entirely skippable in leveling two Stone tanks to 50... I never had either power and never had need for either power. Minerals has it's place, but I don't see a lot of use for it below level 41... there's not a lot of primarily Psi baddies out there and nearly all of them are in the 40+ game.
My Stone/Fire tanker's been mostly retired for the last several issues and I built him with a somewhat different build philosophy. As I look over my build there's things I'd change now but it's already extremely capable as a tanker and practically unkillable... if Lord Recluse buffed by his towers can't do it in 10 minutes (unassisted by the team and only using 4-5 inspirations) I see no reason to build for more durability
Just for comparison here's Granite Flame's current build:

This is a build I'm working on. Toon is now at level 35. This is actually my 1st stoner I have taken to granite. The speed penalties have always made me pick other power sets, but this time I'm committed to see it through. The build I below focuses on speed and recharge bonuses. Right now I'm at a 101.5% speed bonus and 42.5% recharge. My question is, if I keep the speed and recharge up, am I opening up any other huge holes? I chose fire for the AoE's.

It looks like you've also made the other standard mistake: you've tried to plug Granite's psi hole. Going from 0% resistance to 15% resistance gives you a negligable increase in survivability, at the cost of weakening the powers you're slotting for psi resistance.
Remember guys, the need for speed is what I'm going for here. If You can get me a little more defense or resistance without sacrificing any speed then I'm all for it. The reason I went with Kinetic Combat is the 5% run speed bonus. The IO's in granite give me 10% more run speed and a 7.5% recharge bonus. This is all geared around making the fastest tank I can. I forgot to mention that I do have the 60 month veteran's badge, so I am OK with teleport as is.
Sorry to reply 5 days later on a near dead thread ...
I fully slotted my stone/fire for +run speed bonuses. While in granite, it felt like (non sprint) running, as soon as I clicked rooted .... All those bonuses were wasted. Found it much better to go +recharge and simply TP as necessary. I hate TP, if you ever been -recharge on a stoner ... you'll appreciate that extra recharge. CMA mentioned crushing impacts already.
Just saying, granite+rooted, no speed bonus, and only a friendly kin, will help you. WHy rooted? regen and knockdown protection (I have been knocked down quite a few times in granite). Just a thought

Are you actually needing to run Rooted all that often when you're in Granite? With my tank (9 mph in Rooted+Granite), I only turn it on when I'm fighting an archvillain or giant monster, and even then, I usually don't need it.
What were you fighting that was knocking you down? The only thing I've found that can do that is the Crystal Titan, and Rooted doesn't help there. |
Outside of a VERY few situations you won't need Rooted to avoid KB; you should only need it if:
A. You're facing something extremely powerful... GM, really nasty AV or the like.
B. You're facing end drainers like Malta Sappers or Carnies.
For all other fights I'm using either Rock Armor/Rooted/Stone Skin or, if the mobs are tough/numerous enough, Granite armor WITHOUT Rooted. If you find one of the rare mobs that can beat Granite's -KB protection then pop Rooted on and continue tanking.

hehe, actually it was police band missions. I believe it was malta (titans). It doesnt happen often, but I saw myself pushed back and knocked down on against the wall (team of 8). Also happened (a few times) against nemesis, esp if it spawns a group of snipers, and your fighting one group and they all shoot at the same time.
I tend to leave it on, after my first KB in a mission. Cant tank on your back.
It is one of those things, you dont know if you need it until it happens. Lost a few teammates on the malta ambush (very small room, all that aoe). If I had rooted, in all odds, I would have tp'd behind the mobs, drew most of the aoe's away (meh, scrappers can defend themselves).
I also use it for option B (from CMA), no endurance == no granite == ooopsies
Does it happen often? no. But on a team of 8, any endurance drain or knockback, I'll leave it on.
