TonyV, any chance you could post the MD5 for the current Mids' installer, just so that anyone who wants to can check it against the one they download off my server?
I'm sure most people won't care, but I'd like to provide the option for those who do.

Non-VIP accounts don't have access to IOs by default; what was the time gap between you renewing your subscription and seeing the inactive IOs? Sometimes it can take a little bit of time before the account server updates.

He's doing his usual Stalker trolling; One of Synapse' arguments as to why Stalkers aren't getting Titan Weapons at launch was that it wasn't a good fit thematically, so now he seems to be posting this kind of nonsense in any thread discussing other melee ATs.

You can spend billions on enhancements, but if the set bonuses you're getting aren't complementary to your build then they're a waste of money. Equally, you can make certain combinations very survivable with just SOs.
Set bonuses do not an awesome build make, but awesome builds usually have a lot of set bonuses. -
Please stop spelling it "enchancement", it's "enhancement", not to be confused with "enchantment". Enchancement is not a word, it is the ******* child of the other two.
And while I'm ranting, there's no "h" in Exalted either. -
Quote:OK, look at it this way: If you can easily afford to deck yourself with DOs and SOs at every point in the game that you want to be able to, without having to pick your content or sell your drops in the right places, then why bother with inf at all? Why not just make enhancements free? The reason I am bringing this up is it seems kind of silly to shut new Freeb players testing us out away from SOs, just to make a point about how tough levels 15-30 are. Come, join our game, fun to play. Oops, level 15-30, you are broke. Haha. Hey level 30, money flows like water, enjoy. Erm, why?
There has to be some degree of difficulty involved or there's no point in putting any barrier in place. The whole point of the system is so that at early levels you have to make choices; do I fully deck myself out with DOs at 12? Or do I just slot a few into key powers and save up for 17? Or skip DOs entirely and make do with drops until 22 when I can start slotting SOs?
Even once you have your first 50 and can help fund your lowbie alts, you still have to make choices about what to buy as you probably won't be able to afford to keep everyone in green DO/SOs for their whole career even if you wanted to. -
Quote:It's not simply that they're vanity items, it's that they're vanity items that - at best - one or two players will ever see and they put a substantial load on the servers. Costumes, auras and the like do not have that issue.Being that many things in the game are truly vanity costume pieces are a huge example, I realize that a load issue but more to point out vanity is prevelant in many aspects of teh game. That being said it shouldn't be sluffed off due to instance issues those issues in themselves should be addressed. I still firmly stand behind the housing suggestion as a viable and profitable addition to the game.
I have no doubt that if the devs could find an easy way to run thousands of player house instances without a significant impact on performance then they would do so, but to my knowledge it is not something that is high on their priority list at the moment. -
Then don't run the sewer trial over and over again. One of the big boosts to influence in the early levels comes from the end of arc bonuses, so run lots of story arcs and make sure both of you take the missions so that you both get the arc bonuses.
-
As I understand it, the FX & Animation teams are always open to new Emote suggestions as long as they are "standalone" (i.e. Aren't two characters interacting as the bounding boxes make it basically impossible to have them look good).
-
To my knowledge all of the things that you can unlock both in-game and on the market are differentiated by being Character-bound (In-game) and Account-bound (Market) - the only exception being "expendable" items which are purchasable and account-bound, but have a fixed number of uses across all your characters.

What's the card and what drivers are you using? I presume you reinstalled after replacing the drive so it's quite possible you're now running a different driver revision and that is what's causing the problem?
Given it's a Mac I'm assuming an ATI card? If so then there are a lot of known issues with CoH in a lot of the driver versions. -
Player housing won't happen any time soon and it has nothing to do with the amount of dev time required to implement it. Personal housing puts a *massive* load on the servers (potentially thousands of new instances) that serves no purpose other than as a vanity item.
Buying enhancement slots would be hugely unbalancing (and set a horrible Pay-to-win precedent), not to mention the fact that the last time they tried adding extra slots (i21 Beta) it horribly crippled the build of any character who claimed them. -
Quote:Not only that, but the only way to "fund" new alts was by use of a trusted 3rd party (or 2nd account) to direct trade inf and you could only trade 100,000inf at a time, so even giving someone a couple of million to buy a round of SOs took quite a while. The Stores were there fairly early on, but in the very early game, stores only sold the "Power 10" enhancements (things like Acc, Damage, Holds, etc.). But if you wanted any other type of enhancement (like EndMod, Sleeps, Fears, etc.), then you had to buy those from contacts or find them from drops. The stores didn't sell them. And the contact store prices were vastly higher than the stores then, too.

The biggest single "issue" there is the CPU, no question. Even with my old Core2Duo CoH used to sit at 80%+ CPU most of the time (Though that was at 1600x1200, Medium detail).
Quite simply, Celerons suck and it needs replacing, though doing so with something more powerful will probably require a new motherboard, which probably means new RAM and possibly a new PSU. -
I've not seen any problems with the Villain theme on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:10.0a1) Gecko/20111101 Firefox/10.0a1 SeaMonkey/2.7a1

Quote:http://spad.co.uk/mxdsetup1-952.exeJust out of curiosity. While the site(s) are down, is there a mirror to the latest version of Mids anywhere out there?
Usual disclaimers apply. Don't trust software from unknown sources. Has been virus scanned by me but that shouldn't mean anything to you. Will be taken down again once the cohplanner.com site is back up and running.
Edit: Please see Tony's post here for the MD5 hash of the installer -
Based on past experience, they do a pass of the account database and copy everyone who's eligible for the beta across to the beta server just before they make it live for testing, so if you become a VIP after that time your account won't be present.

It also has a much lower base duration, a shorter range and a lower Taunt magnitude.

You don't *need* a tank for anything per se, though if she's going to be blasting you probably want something melee focused that can take a bit more punishment, so a Scrapper, Brute or Tank would be fine; arguably some MM would also work.
KB isn't a problem as long as she doesn't keep attacking your targets and punting them away, so I'd advise you to pick something that you actually want to play rather than what you think you're going to need, otherwise you won't enjoy it. -
Additionally, a *lot* of sites don't keep their software up to date, especially forums, *especially* phpBB for some reason (Wordpress is pretty bad too) and as a result they're vulnerable to exploits that have been found and subsequently patched by the developers. Some of these are as simple as sending a malformed URL allowing you to execute code on the hosting server, others are more convoluted but can easily be automated.

Quote:It is, interestingly, why the argument that "My Computer/Email/Website isn't important/popular/valuable enough for hackers to bother with" no longer has *any* validity; the vast majority of malware these days is entirely automated and the operators don't care who or what they manage to infect - although as we've seen here they do sometimes exclude or include specific IP ranges when serving the payloads, partly to avoid serving the malware to security/AV firms but also in cases where they're after something that's specific to a particular country or region (there's no point trying to get NHS numbers from Americans, for example). This is my experience as well. I had a PHP site with a few extra FTP accounts, and one of those accounts (managed by a friend of mine) had access to a folder within the website. Then the files inside that folder got infected, and they made it so that I couldn't edit the files back and remove the code from the beginning of the files (it was a small site that I could clean things manually). I then asked the hosting company to remove all extra FTP accounts and also change the owner of the infected files so I could clean them. No one had access to the main FTP account other than me, and seeing how the main site didn't get infected, we guessed that the problem originated from an infected machine that had credentials stolen, just like the situation above.

And given Oracle's general behaviour since buying Sun I think it's probably for the best that Android isn't running their JVM (unless they win their stupid lawsuit, of course, which would be interesting).
