    Ok, quick run down:

The AV / Player bonus only applies if your Fury is 80% or more. That's the point where diminishing returns sets in, and this allows you to get to max rage easier. That's not exactly what we wanted, nor is it exactly what you folks were told. I'm sorry for that. I'm uncertain at this time what can be done to improve how this works, but I'll be exploring possibilities.

  3. I get what you're both saying, but unless they're substantially changing what Gauntlet does, I see Tanks going from "nigh-useless in PvP" to "just annoying", like they were before they changed how Taunt worked.

Honestly, if the possibility of anyone remaining perma-Taunted is there, it's gonna be a pain.

Personally, I don't want Tanks given usefulness in PvP at the expense of other players enjoying themselves.

PvPTaunt changes: When a player is being taunted, the effect can now be broken by running a good distance away. Additionally, hiding out of LOS of the taunter will cause the effect to expire sooner.

    Oh god no.

Why? Are Tankers not dying fast enough in PvP?

Are players not getting annoyed by Taunt enough in PvP?

Are Tankers just going to be running around and causing people to flee so the taunt will wear off faster?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If they're running away, they're not attacking the team.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You tell that to a team and see how they respond. Most likely, you'll hear stuff like, "Do we get points for people fleeing?"

How'd you shrug them off? Aren't Stalker criticals (including AS) unresistable?

And even if you did nothing else but *not die* how does that make you in anyway uber?

Given that no other AT can survive such a thing, I'd consider it worth noting, at least.

Okay, but I fail to see practical benefit from it in this instance.

Well, gee, those are excellent numbers.....that discount: range, damage type, un-resistable damage, defiance, epic power pools, resists, defenses, detoggling effects, mez effects, and many other variables.

But...please...go on telling me how the number 1 pvp AT in the game is gimped compared to tankers. I'm gonna go get some popcorn....brb...

I'd hardly say Blasters are the #1 AT. Controllers are probably, or maybe Scrappers.

So, I've been reading around the tanker forums, get a grasp on how things will be. And I've stumbled upon a couple of sayings that there will be no more detoggling.

First, I was wondering if this was true.

Second, I was wondering if it was just Brawl, or all of them.

And third, if it is true, I think its a huge problem. The only way I can beat a BRUTE is through detoggling him. And I detoggle him through Brawl. Wait until Unyielding or wahtever hes using goes down, then hit him with IS. All toggles go down, I pummel him to death.

Granted, this is a huge OK for all tanks, because this is your biggest weak point. But its also the way for many AT's to beat you, and they cant without it.

And although tanks damage isnt te best (Aside from SS), it still can kill quite a few AT's, Brute vs. Tank would be tough. But Tanks still can dish out some insane damage with PVP specced.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Detoggling isn't going away. But, it is being reigned in by a large margin.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'll wait till I see how the developers have reacted this time to mass hysteria. Hopefully a "large margin" is the reverse of a "small tweak".

    [/ QUOTE ]

The problem is it still has characters vs other characters and ever since I started D&D way back in 1980, I have never seen any good come from this. I gave PvP a try in these games anyway, since I was hoping it might have more of a point and less of the attitude that some of the people I played with way back then had, but it's actually worse since there is no GM to intervene.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I understand that competition may not be your cup of tea, and I respect that. Or, you may only like your competition in controlled circumestances. However, I can say that unlike you I have seen buckets of good come from it, and enjoyed it.

On a tangent, why do so many here worry about the attitudes of the competition? Who cares what a bunch of pixels say? There are numerous tools in the game to ignore people - if you find they are getting under your skin, tune them out and just play in peace.

There's an old trick to public speaking about imagining your audience in their underwear. A related one in-game is to imagine your opposition as a bunch of children. It's really hard to get annoyed because children are teasing you.

1.) If PlayerA gets hit by PlayerB for 1001 points of damage, PlayerA will end up with 10 hit points and still be alive, right?

    Right.

    Statesman said:

    [ QUOTE ]

if anything occurs within a fraction of second that brings a player from 100% Hit Points down to 0, we instead give the player 1% Hit Points.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is a bit ambiguous, so how about this:

Player A has 1000 max health, and is currently at 1000 health (full). He is simultaneously hit by two attacks, each doing 600 points of damage in less than a second. Dead or alive?

    Sounds like alive:

    [ QUOTE ]

Yes, at the end of that server tick, PlayerA would be left at 10 HP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If so, how long is the server "tick" with regard to "simultaneous" damage? About a second? Longer? Shorter?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Specific example: the AV Clockwork King has a wail or somesuch which (according to my combat log) does two shots of damage that can one-shot a Tanker. Since this damage is applied at the same time, but not at once, does the "One-shot" code kick in?

Apologies if this has been asked: Another question: What about split-damage-type powers? If I'm hit with one attack for lethal and energy damage greater than my HP bar, am I dead?

Brute HP is about 80% of Tanker HP. Scrappers are about 70%.

    Baby Got Smash

To SMASH, or not to SMASH--that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The bullets and bolts of outrageous DEF mechanics
Or to SMASH against a sea of troubles
And by SMASHing end them. To die, to rez--
No more--and by a debt to say we end
The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to. 'Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to rez--
To rez--perchance to SMASH: ay, there's the rub,
For in that rez with debt what dreams may come
When we have SMASHed off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause. There's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.
For who would bear the Slows and Holds of time,
Th' oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely
The pangs of despised SMASH, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of th' unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare “soupbone”? Who would loot sacks bear,
To grunt and sweat under a SMASHing life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does NOT make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is painted o'er with the rouge cast of SMASH,
And enterprise of great SMASH and infamy
With this regard their currents turn awry
And lose the name of SMASH. -- Soft you now,
The fair Ghost Widow! -- Nymph, in thy orisons
    Be all my SMASHings remembered.

Which has nothing to do with CoH as a production unit. Cryptic doesn't promote or feature known talent-actors doing any voice-over work in that game, nor was that Player ever a known actor in the business. Hence the confusion as to why he's even listed there in the first place. Is he now to be given production-credit because his Forum Avatar and Board-name were suddenly lifted and modeled over an NPC, posthumously?

But as stated earlier, Viewers can influence actual entries made into that particular Database, so things like this, well-intentioned as it was... can slip by.

    [/ QUOTE ]

He isn't given a production credit -- he's just named in a blurb in the "Trivia" section. The only credits given are NCSoft and Cryptic.

Would it be inappropriate to ask how Matthew Bragg died? I'm just curious as to who the man behind Coyote was.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am Matthew's brother. The man behind Coyote was one of the most kind and helpful people I have ever known. He spent his life working to make things better for others, whether it was on the forums, in the game, as part of the SCA, or just with friends and co-workers. He was a funny, crazy, guy that never failed to give people a laugh when they needed it most. He made quite an impression on people in the forums and in the game.

One of the reasons that I got into this game and continue to pay for 3 subscriptions, is the fact that they care enough about the community that they put my brother in the game that he loved so much.

I hope maybe that gives you some idea of who he is, although I apologize if I am threadjacking, or getting too sappy/maudlin. There should still be posts in the forums about him. I know I have read them all.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Nothing maudlin about remembering a loved one, if you ask me.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
One thing that sort of puzzles me, is that in the realm of consoles alot of what are termed RPGs don't actually have you playing a role, they have you controling a party. So, techincally Super Mario Brothers is an RPG (you are playing the role of a plumber thrown headlong into the magical Mushroom Kingdom), but Final Fantasy isn't. RPG seems to have come to mean 'A game where your character(s) grow(s) in power/ability throughout the course game and that growth is determined, in part, by the player'

    [/ QUOTE ]
Precisely why I dislike the FF games, and many others. If I want an RPG, I want a game where I can create/guide the development of my character and handle situations differently depending upon that development. So, to me, something like the Sims or even the career mode in a wrestling game are more RPG than Final Fantasy-style "RPGs". (I call them playable soap operas.)

They just might be changing things around for temp powers (like the new lowbie ones) to try and have origins be more meaningful.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know the ironic thing? The lowbie science origin temp power is less useful than the others. Why you ask? Well, in CoH, a science origin fights Vahzilok for the first 5 levels. Zombies are inherently resistant to the Foe Sleep in Tranq Dart. So, most of the time, the Tranq Dart does nothing other than minor damage. It's a bit frustrating...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Could be useful vs. Reapers and Mortys (maybe not the Mortys, don't know what the sleep mag is)?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It worked pretty well on Reapers, but generally didn't work on the Morts. If I hit them with it twice fast, it might have slept them for about a second, but generally no effect. The duration is so short thats its hard to overlap the effect.

    [/ QUOTE ]
How good does it feel to shoot 'em with a tranq gun, though? It's like a little bit of payback for all the hypos I've had to pull outta my hide from them!
