So we've only gone from a non-functional inherent to one that is, at best, 40% functional - and really something much less considering the 7% low end chance, and the fact that primary damaging powers don't Taunt.

    Seems almost pointless.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't really want to get into a debate on this, so I'll give a couple reasons for it, and go from there.

We're testing this. We don't want to go overboard on it, then have to reduce its effectiveness later, which is a very real concern with this. This lead us to start off low, and build up from there. What you folks are testing currently is the 'second draft' of PvP Gauntlet.

For those of you remember the CoV End of Beta event with the signature heroes battling all the players, we found a very curious problem during that event: It quickly became completely impossible to know who/where your target was. There were so many characters taunting continuously, that it was not only not fun, but essentially not playable.
So, we are trying to make sure that Taunt Ping Pong doesn't become a major concern in PvP. We want Gauntlet to be a bonus which helps, but it is not meant to replace Taunt or related powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I have to say: I think it may well be time to bite bullet and admit that there's a good chance that this is just the wrong mechanic for the game.

    Thanks for responding, though!

I need help because I'm not numerically inclined...

For those where you gave 2 percentages (e.g. Force Bolt for Defenders) - what does the 1st vs. the 2nd # mean?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think it means, for example, 8% chance to drop one toggle, 2% chance to drop a second, and 0.whatever chance for both to happen.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
What about the scrapper/tanker detoggling attacks? Spines does it a lot, Energy Melee does it a ton. Broadsword doesn't do it at all anymore. We need a complete list.

    [/ QUOTE ]
No Scrapper/Tanker attacks detoggle outside of Brawl. If they do, then it's either due to an inherent mez effect in the attack, or a bug.
  5. I'm fairly certain I saw Jesus at one point during my Mayhem Mission.

    So. Good.

One comment: there is way too much glue flying around. Kudos on everything else!
  6. [ QUOTE ]
So does the new box expansion mean the end of free issues? Or will there continue to be free issues between the boxes?

    [/ QUOTE ]
My guess: the boxed expansions will have as much affect on the free Issues as the CoV expansion did.

In other words, resources will be dedicated to pursuing that payday, while the "maintenance" stuff gets backburnered.

Geesh. People used to call me a Dev apologist!

So, does this mean that Statesman is no longer associated with the game on a major scale? Because those messages sort of read like a baton passing.

And is that the "State of the Game" that I lobbied for, and that we were promised? - I hope not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

In answer to your first question, I'm still involved with CoH/CoV.

As to your second, I don't remember a promise about a "state of the game", though I do remember saying it was a good idea. But yeah, I think this does classify as a state of the game address - where we're at, what we're doing in the future.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You didn't promise it. Positron mentioned it here.

We were hoping for a little more detail, though.

(Except, of course, for "feeling", which is hazy and, apparently, under-represented outside of Burn and fighting very grey enemies.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's also represented in a few other powers. Freezing Rain, for example, or Blizzard. Lots of patch damages seem to express it. It, or something like it, can also be expressed when attacking enemies in a way so that they can't fight back for 10 seconds (ie : slows on enemies with few powers, staying at range).

    [/ QUOTE ]
True. Though, really, that's only addressing my sidenote. I think the fact that Taunt wholly overrides anything but Burn, Rain of X powers and whatever else is a serious flaw in its design and what makes aggro management (in my opinion) far too simplistic to be fun.
  9. Essentially, "Taunt" is a whole separate system that overrides the normal rules of aggro, subverting the NPC AI. In other words: mind control.

(Except, of course, for "feeling", which is hazy and, apparently, under-represented outside of Burn and fighting very grey enemies.)

It's sad that Dev/Player communication has severely declined since I5, what with all the nerfs and Dev-flaming.

Pow wows, tee pees and peace pipes I guess we all have to swallow. But can we have a little respect for the Nations and not [censored] start talking about scalping?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Consider this an official, public apology. It wasn't my intent to cause any racial tensions here, I was trying to keep a potential problem light hearted.

    I sincerely apologize.

    To everyone else:
It's hard for me to remember at times the great variety of folks who read these boards, from all ethnicities, political and religious backgrounds. I imagine when most people are posting, they tend not to think about such things as well. As a representative of Cryptic Studios, however, I *do* need to pay more attention to these things. In the event that I fail in this, please PM me about it so I can take corrective action.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Looking back at the thread, I think it was actually me that caused the offense, so it's really doubly laudable that you apologised.

As I've said in the past, when you step on someone's toes, regardless of your intent, the right thing to do is apologise. In that spirit: I apologise for offending you, Rehdjac, and anyone else that may've been offended.

This reminds me, Cricket, stay the [censored] away from the Comics section. Fair warning.

Whatever for? It's perfectly normal down there in Arkham... I mean the Comics section... pay no attention to the gyrating purple hippo! The rest of us are (mostly) harmless!

We must test her. See if she is one of us.

Also, if we deleted our char from your servers, would you still hold rights to them, since they were still made on your servers? Or would you hold them temporarily, or would your rights to them be gone, or what?

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is the most interesting part, to me. What constitutes Cryptic's ownership? If I created and deleted a Wolverine clone named Woolverine, am I still liable for breaking the EULA? If Cryptic does a backup and I delete my character, effectively trying to reassert my ownership of that concept, who "owns" it?

    Law is funny.

Will Brutes' Fury not building properly in PVP get fixed?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've not figured out a way to get it working yet. It's possible I *can't* get it to work as described, in which case, we'll have to have a pow wow around here (complete with Tee Pee's and Peace Pipes, hopefully) to figure out what to do.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just go easy on the peyote.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I'm going to recommend more peyote. I think a little... "outside the box" thinking could help jumpstart the Dev team!

    Scalp the coders.

Or just give Brutes a flat 35% Fury when in PvP zones.

It's really amazing how just a little bit of Dev time can help alleviate board tensions.

That, and I think it helps some people see the devs as actual, yanno, people.

    4. Will you folks ever do what you did in 2004 and sketch out roughly the year ahead what we players can be looking forward to, either via convention panels or 'State of the Game' forum post?

FIRST THING: I want the devs to take their time with I7, seriously. Take your time. No rush, get it right, yadda, yadda.

SECOND THING: That said the inmates are getting restless.

    SO,

THIRD THING: Like the subject line says, how about a quick Q&A with Positron (like his recent badge thread) where we're allowed to throw out questions and Positron answers as few or as many as he wants. Just friendly, perhaps we sic Clintonian on anyone who trolls (since Happy Fun Taser is out of that business).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm crazy busy right now, but I'd be happy to answer a few questions, as long as none of them are "when is I7...?"

    [/ QUOTE ]
Glad to see you're not dead.

Question: anything we don't know about that's on Dev priority list?

You know, stuff like, "we want to take a look at Dominators" or "Bodyguard is great, so we're going to use that tech elsewhere" or "Hey, we decided to go back and really work on that skills system!"
  23. I'd say healing 125% of your HP every minute is a pretty decent crutch. So maybe the sets won't fall down without it, but they'll sure as hell be doing better with it.

Would you prefer the term "booster seat" or "platform shoes"?

I think Forcefields should be changed to resist damage instead of def simply bc that makes more sense. FFs should not make you more evasive to attacks they should just repel damage

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can see it either way, but I personally think of it as defense. Remember that defense prevents the shot from even landing, which could be represented by the deflection effect from a force field. Resistance means the hit lands, but some of the damage is absorbed, e.g. a flak vest.

That thinking can also apply to many of the tanker powers: glacial and rock armor are defense because the blow never gets to your actual body, whereas the whole invulnerability set is mostly resists because the attacks are reaching your physical body. In short, high defense does not necessarily mean high agility. It simply means that something is preventing attacks from hitting the mark.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Just to clarify: the majority of Inv's survivability to non-S/L damage comes from DEF and HP regen now. The days of Inv being mostly resists are over.

Yeah, I know. We were surprised, too.

I still, however, greatly dislike the fact that FF as a secondary is being expressly and specifically discriminated against.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You do realise "expressly and specifically discriminated against" means that the Devs have come out and said such, right?

I really do not recall seeing that redname post.
