When I was working on the two big bases a few months back, which were on the two biggest plot sizes, it was pretty common for people to lose track of where they were, especially if headed for the offices or dorms or lecture hall or meeting rooms.... anything that was on the far reaches of the bases really.

Solo bases are the exception and not the rule in comic books.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, tell that to the super guy with the Fortress of Solitude.
Gotta be careful with those blanket type statements (i.e. Bases are for groups).
[/ QUOTE ]
Did you read the rest of what he said or just stop there? Superman is (I think) the only major superhero with a "one-man sg-base" that he didn't mention. Exception doesn't mean that it doesn't happen, it means that it's rare.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah I was mostly just throwing examples out there to explain the difference between the resources needed for a solo base. Bats and Shell-head were just the first two that came to mind for me for big solo bases, and Spidey was a no-brainer as an example of the typical starter solo base, at least using his days as a student scraping to make ends meet as the basis.
I could easily run off a list of 30 or 40 more examples off the top of my head if I really wanted to, but I think I got my point across. lol -
Yeah they've been there a while.
-
No need to make a new guy. Just go back through to all of the exploration badge locations in each zone. When you hit whichever one you're missing for that zone it will tell you that you've earned the beacon.

I've never seen nor been part of a base raid in my 5 years playing this game.

This.
Nor do I want to be part of such raiding.

Yeah same here. -

Ultimo, why not just use functional rooms, and decorate those?
As for the simplest 'functional' base, if it's just you, you can get away with one teleport pad. Just swap out the beacons for the location you wish to go. That and a work room is all I have in my VG.
[/ QUOTE ]
Good call -- that's how one of my red side bases started out. It was a little awkward at times, but it worked out easily enough.
[ QUOTE ]
I might have missed it, what server are you on?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I'd be curious to know as well. If nothing else I might be able to offer a coalition spot so you have access to everything while you're under construction. -
[ QUOTE ]
Of course, I could invite other players, but no one would want to join a SG with no base, would they?
[/ QUOTE ]
When you're recruiting, explain that you're just starting. Some people like getting in on that, helping to build from the ground up. Be up-front about it though and let people know your intentions. That's what I did for the SG I used to run on my own, and I had people join up who were more than willing to jump into the Prestige mines, earn telepad beacons, whatever. It worked because they could see their contributions directly affecting their surroundings everytime they entered the base. I was also lucky in that we still had Base Salvage at the time and whenever I was recruiting, I had leaders of established SGs handing me piles and piles of the stuff for free to help us get up and running.
For my own "JLA/Avengers"-style SG, I've got a big head start on you in terms of planning and Prestige, so its not as hard for me to wait it out and build what little is still needed for that base before I do major recruiting. It took a lot of work and a lot of patience to build mostly solo (and mostly on lesser used alts) to where it is now though. -
[ QUOTE ]
They are not end-game content. They are *GROUP* content so, yes, it's very difficult/slow for a soloer to get a decent base.
[/ QUOTE ]
This.
Solo bases are the exception and not the rule in comic books.
Batman or Tony Stark can spend their billions to buy Prestige to supplement their income, and that gets them the huge digs they've got, with all the trimmings. Spiderman can afford a single room with one storage unit.
The JLA worked out of a small cave in Rhode Island in their early days and eventually upgraded to the Justice League Satellite. The X-Mansion has gone through countless upgrades over the years, adding more and more functionality into its design, along with higher levels of tech. In other words, they built it up as they went along, same as you have to do. -

Bulletin Board: I'd love it if there was a bulletin board you can post announcements and everyone could leave messages. Planning a task force on a particular day or a powerleveling session on some other day, have notices for them. Have a recipe you'll sell cheaply to SG members before putting it on the market, post it there. I think this would be incredibly useful.
[/ QUOTE ]
You have part of that already. Add in TF announcements to your SG's MotD. Every member sees it when they log in. Failing that, set up a Global channel for your SG and set the MotD for that as well. As for the rest of it, you're better off just setting up a site for your SG. For example, Guild Portal offers free hosting, complete with message boards. That's where most of the planning and trading communications were handled for most of the SGs I've been in.

Teleporter to mission entrance: I think this would be great.

This exists on an account-wide basis as part of the Mac Edition of the game. The power has a one hour recharge, if I recall. Because its available for sale for RL money, I doubt we'll see it available as a free feature anytime soon. -

Sidenote: even as players fall to the wayside and leave or certain characters don't get played anymore, leave them in the SG. You will lose prestige they earned if you kick them, as well as bonus prestige.
[/ QUOTE ] Is this true? I mean, I knew about the thing if you fall under 15 members, but I don't think you lose any earned prestige from members if they're kicked or quit the SG.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope -- the Prestige you generated by your actions stays with the SG after you leave. They lose the 20k bonus if your loss drops them below 15 members, but they still keep the rest. -

Nope -- 1 million Inf will buy you 2000 Prestige.
In my opinion, it really is easier to just put your inf into IOs for your toons and use their actions to roll up the Prestige. As for decorative rooms, I'd recommend starting with the 3x3 Oversight room. They're listed under "Control" and they're only 50K. I have one base that's an entrance room and four Oversights, so yeah it really is a viable way to go for purely decorative stuff. One of those rooms is three stories, which isn't so hard to do either for cheap.
If you're interested in what you can do on the cheap, I'm willing to show you my bases on Virtue.
[/ QUOTE ]
Using multiple Oversight Rooms is a great idea!
At 50K apiece, they are the cheapest large open areas in the game, and you can divide them up by raising/lowering floors, blocking the center out entirely, etc.
Can you still place the single storage item in each of them? That would handle a good bit of storage as well - for the same cost as the smallest Workshop (1X2) you could have the same utility in 3X3 room (times as many as you want to place).
Sweet!
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep still works that way for storage, so you can drop one storage and one workshop item in each Oversight. Can only place one Combo unit per base, so you can't use that to get around power/control issues for cheap, but its very easily done for other things.
I like having RP space in my bases, so I like the larger rooms. -
I still have a few bases on Virtue if anyone ever wants to see.
The Horsemen of Apocalypse -- a small VG, where I have War, one of the Four Horsemen. It's essentially a dark, demonic set of temples connected by a series of subterranean tunnels. Every couple weeks I dive back in to add a few things here and there.
Shadows of Paragon -- new redside group for my heroes operating in the Isles. Small base and not much to see really yet, as it takes the place of a group I left a month or two ago now.
The House of Heroes -- my planned JLA/Avengers-style RPSG (just me and a friend for the moment) operates out of an orbital satellite and is already fully equipped with all telepads, full workshop, infirmary, customized generator, rec area (and second floor meeting room), and a superhuman testing lab. I'd like to have a second workshop and an airlock with experimental shuttlecraft put together before open recruiting begins. Sitting on about 240K in Prestige there right now. A few hundred K more and I'll be able to set up everything I want for that base. I'm guessing late July or early August until I'm ready to launch that full-time.
DH's Apartment -- my main's home has had three different layouts, representing homes in Dark Astoria, then Asgard, and now in a parallel reality where no humans apparently evolved on earth. I think I posted a few pics of the current layout in the i13 rooms thread. There are a lot of details that can't really be seen in those pics though, because of how its all set up. -
Yeah nobody saw me much at the time, including my roommate, who also plays CoH and only saw me when I would scurry out of my room in search of more coffee. The biggest projects were some major additions/expansions to two Top 100 bases on Virtue when i13 hit. There was a lot to be done in those two SG bases, where I was quite active at the time.
Always want to make sure the SGs I do any editing for get the best and the brightest, something to show off and be proud of. I was lucky in working on those as they had a lot of Prestige to work with.
And thanks. -
lol Yeah, I'm pretty fanatical about bases too, having been the primary guy for 7 at one time for a while there. There have been a few months where I didn't do any mishes, just base editing. I'd just rather see someone build their characters and let the base grow as they do. It's not that hard to do it that way. I have multiple personal bases that I've grown that way as well.
Seriously, add alts until you get to 15 members and then try to get in on TFs at least once a week if possible, or at least complete a story arc a week if a TF can't be done. Stay in SG mode and you'll see it all add up. It just takes a little patience. -

I was in two Top 100 SGs on Virtue (was an officer in one and maintained the bases for both), and I always thought it was funny how much people thought that was important, or how we had to stay coalitioned to groups that were Top 100 SGs. In some of those cases, the other Top 100 SGs never communicated with us or teamed with us, and eventually I convinced the leadership to cut them loose in favor of good people who had SGs that would actually talk and team with us.
That's more important really. Top 100 SG rankings don't mean anything. Find SGs that have people that make you want to come back, the ones that have your back. Those are the ones you want to be with. -
Welcome to the bases forum!
The little transparent star, from what I can tell, is just to show where the greatest intensity of light is generated for those lamps. There's no way that I know of to manipulate the color or intensity of the lamps themselves.
Bases are an area that has been waiting for real help from the devs for a long time now. Most of the people who frequent this forum have far more experience than I when it comes to the attempts at getting attention for this from the devs, but for the most part I think it's safe to say we've been waiting a while and without any communication from the devs, we really don't have much to go by for any kind of timetable on the "base love" that has been promised.
The new graphics that were added by people was done by use of an outside program, but to be completely honest, I've never used it and its only then viewable on computers that have that graphic added to their own system. Others here might be able to help you with that though.
Looking forward to seeing pics of whatever you come up with for your own bases! -

Are bases intended only for L50s or something?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, they're intended to grow as your characters grow. In other words, you need to have a little patience and actually... you know.... generate Prestige by playing the game. Just like your toons aren't that powerful or robust at level 16, neither will your base be. -

Nearly every power listed in that thread had its Recharge and End cost increased. This is not a good thing for drawing in new Dom players, if that was the idea behind all of this.
[/ QUOTE ]
True But Pre-Stamina most everything has fits of endurance woes so its not like its that big of a deal, and with Domination being free to do something other than be a damage Crutch, while you are a lowbie you can pop it in longer fights for the Blue Bar Boost.
[/ QUOTE ]
With the higher End and Recharge for your powers, you won't be able to attack as quickly to build Dom as quickly though. This is particularly an issue in the lower levels when many people form their first opinions of whether they want to play an AT or not. Not being able to do anything because either you're out of End or your powers haven't recharged yet is already a problem in the pre-Stamina levels. From what I can see, this would only make the problem worse.
And for those people saying Dom has only ever been a damage crutch, I think they're a bit delusional. Status Protection and extra Mag on your mezzes is huge. That's why I built for Perma-Dom, not the damage buff. The damage buff was just icing on the cake. -

Personally I actually like the Rikti invasions. I've been hoping we'd have more invasion weeks. I kinda miss them.

My widow Hyperthread started as an elec/dev blaster and is really a heroine. I had a little RP story where she was kidnapped and brainwashed by Nocturne from Arachnos a couple years ago in Faultline. So playing her as a widow has been solely to show her Arachnos training from the brainwashing anyway, while giving her a chance to go after Arachnos on their own turf.
Once she hits 50 and has defeated GW and Recluse, it would make perfect sense for her to return to Paragon City full-time. So yeah, I'm really hoping the widows can switch sides. -
No more than FF is watered down, I'd guess, and my FF MM works well enough. *shrugs* It's all just speculation though I guess.
