  1. Sweet change. Wonder when that occurred. My stormy will like that.

Well Tornado deals 407.1 ticks of smashing damage within 30 seconds unenhanced (on a level 50) and the number goes even higher if you consider the -Res from Freezing Rain and the Achilles Proc in either FR or Tornado itself. Sadly I still don't know how to factor in -Res so we will skip that part. Waterspout deals 271.4 ticks of smashing damage unenhanced (on a level 50). Now my toon (with ageless) can put out two Tornadoes and 1 waterspout out at the same time which is great especially if I have the critter/critters immob'd...Two Tornadoes and 1 waterspout deals 1,085.6 ticks of damage within roughly 60 seconds UNENHANCED.

Now Add the Lady grey proc which checks every 10 seconds...lets say that it only procs once for the two Tornadoes and waterspout...from just that proc alone you're looking at 214 points of damage. Now I'm going to add my Build's values to Tornado and Waterspout and add up all the damage...keep in mind this STILL isn't factoring in the -Res values.

817 x 2= 1,634 + 573= 2,207 pts of damage in 1 minute. Even Blizzard is jealous! (Unless you take burnout and double blizzard but that's just overkill!!!) Now mix that damage with your pets, Lightning Storm and other goodies and you're looking at a good time! Also something that will not only keep an AV's Regen at bay but it would melt them slowly into oblivion.

It happens a lot actually and it's not the first time that I've been burnt for doing so.
You do realize you can only have one tornado out at once, right? Casting it again kills the old tornado and starts a new one. Unless something changed in the last 2 issues...

    ATO placement

I place 5 slots into my Nova cone power, and then the empowerment enhancement in the default nova bolt (weakest attack) slot.

The reasoning is that I DO want the 13% enhanced damage, but my PB is slot starved to hell. The 6-slot bonus just isn't worth it to me, when slots are at an absolute premium.

Regarding slotting the chance for build up in Nova...I don't do it as I have a pshifter proc there for increased endurance gain. It is something always useful, regardless of when the proc fires. If your chance to build up fires in a down time when you don't want it, it likely won't be up again when you DO want it.

Random but always beneficial > random and occasionally beneficial in my book.
  4. Photon Seekers is an intriguing idea for the new enhancement set. Would be fun to test if the knockback-to-knockdown works on them.

Solar Flare is up much more often, though, which seems to be more useful in the long run. You could use it as a standard part of your attack chain (I already to).
  5. I put mine in Bright Nova Bolt...a power I use rarely if ever.
  6. Also, not that it matters for the build, here's a bit of backstory for Incarnate (posted in the Kheldian story thread as well):

Lucas Colston was, and in some ways still is, an average fourteen year old boy living in a city full a super heroes. He avidly collected the latest newspaper clippings of good triumphing over evil in all its forms. His comic book collection of real and make believe heroes rivaled the best his classmates had collected. In short, he was a hero worshipper who had no illusions of grandeur for himself.

Lucas knew that he would never amount to hero material, and he was content with that. He was bright, but not brilliant. He was athletic, but not exceptionally so. And while he could track down who ate the last of the cookies his mother had baked before, he was no great detective. Besides which, the city had enough heroes to save itself a hundred times over.

Every night after PCN had finished its recap on the heroic exploits of day, Lucas would lock himself away in his room. Sitting at his desk, he'd retrieve the hidden police radio that his uncle had given him in secret several years prior. Volume turned down low, he would listen for hours as police called in the help of heroes across the city. Bombings were averted. Hostages rescued. Villains brought to justice.

Much to his dismay, the broadcast that went out one evening involved a building just two blocks away from his home in Steel Canyon. Hellions had set fire to an apartment complex, and so close to home. He knew he shouldn't go. It was something he had promised his uncle upon receiving the gift in the first place, that he would never use the radio to see a crime in progress. But this was his chance to see his heroes in person! See Positron deploy some gadget to snuff out all of the fires at once. See Synapse run fast enough to extinguish the flames. The possibilities lured him quietly out his window, and towards the inferno.

The flames were intense. The PFD were on-scene, but it was clear that they were no match for the roaring flames. Worse, the shadowy forms of Hellion arsonists would occasionally duck out from behind the building to rebuild a blaze that the PFD had extinguished. It was intense, and Lucas soaked it all in while waiting for his expected heroes to appear.

He waited. And waited. The flames grew more intense, and the cries for help from within the building grew more urgent.

"No one is responding on the radio!" the Fire Chief said.

Lucas' head whirled towards the Chief in shock. No heroes? None? No one coming to rescue those within the building?

"Are you sure?" one of the firefighters yelled back over the raging crackle of the fire.

"I'm sure! Skyway and Atlas reserve firefighters are on the way, but that's it." The Chief eyed the blaze again. "They won't make it, this building is going to come down any minute. Start pulling your people back."

"NO!" Lucas shouted, stepping out from car he was hiding behind. "There are people still in there!"

"Son, anyone still in there is behind our reach." the Chief said sadly. "Without the heroes, we can't get to them."

Lucas then did what any fourteen year old would do: he acted without thinking the situation through. Pulling up his collar around his face, he charged blindly into the burning building, homing in on the noise of crying from the upper levels. He wasn't trying to be a hero, that was the furthest thought in his mind. Indeed, his brain caught up with his body moments later and he stood paralyzed in the stairwell.

"What am I doing?!" he asked himself aloud. His body turned back to the entrance on his own accord, driven by an all-consuming fear. He took two steps before a cry for help pierced his consciousness.

"Help us! HELP US!" came the voice just one level above where he stood.

He had a choice. His adolescent brain had forced him into the building. Fear had turned him away. He was tired of his choices being taken from him. He knew he could leave the building and no one would think any less of him. None of the firefighters had rushed in. Or he could do what was right. What was called for in situations like these.

He headed towards that cry for help.

Minutes later he and two women, a mother and her four year old daughter, emerged from the building covered in soot. Lucas struggled to breathe from the smoke he'd inhaled, and struggled all the more when the mother threw her arms around his neck in a fierce embrace.

"Thank you! Thank you thank you thank you." the woman mumbled into his shoulder over and over again.

News cameras had arrived on the scene while he had been inside, their lights blinding him. Reporters droned on about the situation, but it was readily apparent that they wanted statements from Lucas.

For the second time in the night, he froze. He wasn't supposed to be out this late, nor by himself. He wasn't supposed to have the police radio that let him head here in the first place. He had broken more of his mother's rules in one night than he had in the previous six months. Instead of answering any questions, he ran.

    ---------------------------------
High above, another watched his flight from the scene. It hovered, unnoticed by the crowd milling below. It had watched the entire incident, for much the same reasons that Lucas had. Radiant Cascade was newly arrived on Earth, and had been directed by Sunstorm to seek our a willing, and worthy, host. A hero just cutting his teeth in the fight against evil would allow himself, as well as his host, to carve a new destiny for themselves.

Cascade was surprised when no hero showed up to fight the blaze, and was further shocked when the young boy had charged into the building without other assistance. That the boy had been successful only fueled the intrigue. Thus when he ran, Cascade followed.

He watched as the boy snuck quietly back into his room, and observed the small form rocking gently on the bed.

"Why didn't anyone show up? Why? " Tears rolled down Colston's cheeks, forming small rivers of soot. Angry red burns covered his arms and neck.

"You did." Cascade's voice seemingly came from everywhere, and nowhere, within the room.

The boy shot upright from his bed, grimacing as the action tugged at his burns. "Who is there?" he asked defiantly.

Cascade phased into view, a wisp of light that illuminated the bedroom. "I am called Radiant Cascade. Your people call my kind Kheldians. Peacebringers."

The tension drained out of the boy's face slightly. He'd heard of Peacebringers. The police radio had talked about their own Kheldians, the Awakened Division. They were the last line of defense for the blue shield. "What do you want?" he asked.

Again the voice came from everywhere and nowhere. "To bond with a hero. To become more than the sum of our individual parts."

    "Then why are you here?"

    "I've found my hero."

The boy's jaw hung slack as he considered the statement. Moments passed before he replied. "I'm no hero. You're looking for someone like Back Alley Brawler or Manticore. Positron or Synapse. Swan or..."

"I've found my hero." the voice interrupted, this time with an edge to it. "None of those threw themselves into the flames today to save those that needed saving. You have no powers to call your own, no training, but you did what grown men with both were unwilling to do. I choose you."

"I just did what had to be done."

"Boy, I have lived for thousands of years amongst many people. In all that time, there has never been a better definition of heroic action than what you just said. You are a worthy partner. Let us help each other."

The boy looked to the wall where his Statesman poster was hung. It was signed by the hero himself, shortly after Colston's father had died. "Strength and courage, Lucas" it said in broad, sweeping strokes. It was a living testament despite Stateman's passing. "Ok. What do I…" His breath cut off in a gasp as Radiant Cascade entered his body, the two becoming one. The burns disappeared in an instant, replaced with smooth unbroken skin. And in his mind…

Memories from dozens of lifetimes, hundreds, cascaded through his consciousness. He witnessed the death, birth, and life of stars. The exploration of comets and asteroids. His arrival on Earth. His rescue of the trapped women, seen from high above. All of these memories and more flashed by before settling to a deep, abiding peace of mind.

*Are you there?* he thought to himself.

*I will always be here.* Cascade's voice echoed inside their mind.

    *What do we do now?*

*What you did tonight. What is right.*

    ---------------------------------

Several months have passed since Colston and Cascade bonded into the Peacebringer known as Incarnate. He currently serves as a member of the Shining Stars, alongside Twinshot, Grym, Dillo, Flambeaux, and Proton. He finds great enjoyment in his new metamorphic abilities. To the outward world as Incarnate, he looks to be an athletic man in his mid 20's. Only when he returns home to visit his mother does he revert back to the boyish figure who recently turned 15.

As a hero, Incarnate displays all of the youthful exuberance that comes with Colston's young age. His Kheldian counterpart is often exasperated, in a fatherly way, with the adolescent urges to leap without looking. Cascade seeks to temper that recklessness, without squashing the enthusiasm behind it.
  7. Incarnate (ok, ok, lncarnate with a lowercase L), my +3 Peacebringer, has spoiled me over the course of the last year or so in CoH. He's the single most survivable character I've ever created, still standing long after the rest of his team has hit the dirt in the worst scenarios. Not only that, his damage is pretty damn good (for a Kheldian), and that's the way I like it.

Despite Incarnate going through dozens of build changes, and me settling on one that works "perfectly" in game, I'm wise enough to know that I don't have all the answers when it comes to perfect builds. Indeed, there are significant limitations with my current build. Specifically, it is an endurance hog and my recovery powers are underslotted...if I don't manage my blue bar carefully I can bottom out easily. Essence Boost also isn't nearly as slotted as I wish it would be, despite being permanent with my Ageless Destiny.

The build idea is simple: Human form is geared for heavy single target damage and AV soloing. Nova is geared for mass AoE damage (I routinely solo doors letting no survivors past in BAF utilizing Nova + Lore). Dwarf is mostly a slot mule getting me those needed S/L defense bonuses, a third heal, mez protection, and an on-demand taunt...but actually has "decent" damage of its own for a White Dwarf.

To do so, I've layered three different levels of protection while maintaining respectable damage levels. With all of the toggles on (I don't usually need all of the toggles on), I'm sitting comfortably at 45.9% S/L and 40.2% melee to handle other damage types. If attacks get past those defenses, I've got permanently capped resistances (85%) to all but psi. When damage ticks through that, I have two relatively short cooldown heals that restore half my health each time. If I need a third, it does 88% of my health post form change (the instant form changes on the Beta server will make this a reliable third heal, rather than an emergency button).

With all of that being said, I'm open to suggestions on how to improve my build further. I already have every single enhancement placed in the build, including the Gladiator's Armor in Shining Shield. I do not yet own any purples. I want to stick with my guiding rules of "insane survivability and as much damage as I can cram into the build." Thanks in advance.

Here is a question? What exactly does a Peacebringer do? What are they jacks at?

I would like to see a human form Peacebringers have some elements of defender, with a bit of control. This means maybe a small PBAoE heal for your team, and -fly baked into all powers. Or using the arrows of jeleousy type mechanics so if you use your heal power on an ally, it it does a single target heal for a large amount. If you use it on an enemy it gives your team a PB AoE smaller heal or maybe a res based around that enemy.

Maybe another mechanic that gives PB's resist based on heals or baking a +absorb into all their powers that heal

Two ideas that improve PB's without massivly changing them.

I like PB's. I like their form changing. They don't need to be SoA's. They don't need to be warshades. Their design isn't broken, just a little poorly implimented.
And this is why it will be hard for devs to add/change powers. MY PB in human form is a scrapper. Heavy single target damage, 45% S/L Def, permanently capped resists, and permanent Inner Light. That's how I like to play him. I need AoE I switch to Nova. I need a Breakfree or taunt to get enemies off of squishes, I go Dwarf.

I'd HATE to see him lose some of his Scrapperish traits and be forced into more of a defender role in human form. Hate hate hate. Just like some of you probably hate my number 3 above when I suggested the devs make them MORE Scrapperish.

There's no way that we a PB players can decide on how to best improve certain powers that the AT has, because we all play our PB's different and like them that way. How can we then expect the devs to make changes to powers that won't have half the PB community up in arms? The most I think we can hope for in regards to improvements are the QoL thinks like toggle suppression, and enhancements to existing powers rather than changes.
  9. 1) Toggle suppression

    2) KB changed to KD

    3) Remove the crappy human-form AoE's and replace them with hard-hitting melee attacks. Radiant Strike is great. IS is great.

It's funny, I feel exactly the opposite. Out of each of the different EAT types, Peacebringers have always been the most fun for me to play, followed by Huntsmen (only taking Cloak from Bane), then Warshades, then all of the other Villian iterations.

To be fair, if the Warshade colors were adjustable, it might be a different story. I'm a light over darkness, do the right thing even when it hurts, stand in the gap sort of player. Peacebringers flat out ooze these characteristics and theme. There's something awesome about smacking the bad guy around with pure white energy. More awesome is that I have an outstanding mix of single target melee (I count Blast and Bolt as melee for my PB, since I'm using them when up in someone's face anyway) and AoE abilities. Radiant Strike is that cool of a skill. Not to mention I can run +4x8, solo AV's, etc... without any problem.

The instant form change is going to make it that much more awesome. Now I can (hopefully) revisit my "Peacebringer alpha" of Nova Cone, Nova AoE, Solar Flare in a bambambam nature instead of having to wait for the transition back to human to finish.

Can't wait. Best change in forever.

Having softcapped defenses, permanently capped resists, and three heals is kinda op, honestly. When you throw in a permanent damage boost as well it just isn't fair. I've gotten lots of /tells recently from people in-game that said I've changed their minds on a PB's usefulness to teams.

I'm not saying that the above is better than a Warshade can do. My wife loves hers, but I really like the overall theme and feel of PB's more...and this is the most effective PB I've been able to build.
  12. My PB is currently running 45% S/L Def and 90% recharge. That's JUST enough to make Lightform and Inner Light perma. I love the build...but if they DO go through with this change it'll be even better.

Best single change I've seen them announce since Lightform being usable in all forms.

    A couple images of Incarnate:

The first is of Lucas Colston, the identity he goes back to when visiting his mother in Steel Canyon, or when trying to keep a low profile on the city streets.

The second is Incarnate's normal outfit...though typically he has the Rook chest detail (forgot to disable the SG emblem). Colston's mind immediately went to his idol Statesman, and the simple costume bears testament to that. Notice he appears appreciably older and much more built, in his mid-to-late 20's.

    With normal chest emblem:

Finally, we have the Armored Incarnate. This is what Incarnate changes into for particularly difficult challenges (read: Task Forces and Trials). He knows he isn't invincible, and thus is adding layers of protection to his uniform.

  15. I know this is probably WAY too late, but I thought I'd write out Incarnate's story to share with everyone else. He is definitely a leap before he looks type of character, always with the best of intent. This shows off in-game by racing ahead of the rest of his team to confront the enemy threat, confident in his own abilities to hold out *just* long enough for everyone else to get there. He's always willing to lay it all on the line to ensure that the hostages are rescued, or teammates are saved, no matter what the cost is to himself. Costume pictures will follow once I get back home.

    Human name: Lucas Colston
    Kheldian name: Radiant Cascade
    Peacebringer name: Incarnate

Lucas Colston was, and in some ways still is, an average fourteen year old boy living in a city full a super heroes. He avidly collected the latest newspaper clippings of good triumphing over evil in all its forms. His comic book collection of real and make believe heroes rivaled the best his classmates had collected. In short, he was a hero worshiper who had no illusions of grandeur for himself.

    -------------------------------------

Are you there? he thought to himself.

I will always be here. Cascade's voice echoed inside their mind.

    What do we do now?

What you did tonight. What is right.

    -------------------------------------

    StJ/SD

I'm doing the same "no travel powers" rule. Sprint + Ninja Run work perfectly enough for my tastes, and Temp Travel Powers cover the bases well enough for the outlying fringe cases where I need more vertical options.

    StJ/SD

I don't have any specific comments on the build...but I myself built a STJ/SD scrapper the other night...

...holy cow it felt like "coming home" to the combo that I've been missing all of these years but never knew about. It's finally enabled me to make a non-bastardized version of Captain America, and it performs GREAT. Rib Cracker, Sweeping Cross, etc... They're all so satisfying.

He's only level 30 right now, but this may be the first toon that I "purple out".
  18. For me it hasn't been a particular set. Instead, if has always been the CoH incarnation of my favorite comic book heroes. For me, I can't do things wacky. The sets have to "make sense" together...and comic book heroes tend to do that. Some iconic ones:

    1) Superman - SS/Invuln
    2) Incredible Hulk - SS/WP
    3) Captain America - SJ/SD
    4) Storm - Storm/Elec
    5) Iron Man - Energy/Energy

Etc... I'm currently playing the Captain America character (Javelin on Freedom), and he's rapidly approaching "favorite character ever" status. That combo is just stupidly good on a Scrapper, and let's face it, Cap is much more Scrapper than he is Brute or Tank. He's the first character in 2-3 years that, after logging off because I'm tired, I log back in because I want to throw more Sweeping Crosses and Rib Crackers around.

Now if only we could throw the shield....

Why is this the case? I understand that Shield Charge does more damage on the Scrapper...but why is "the combo" better on a Scrapper than a Brute? Is it something more than just Shield Charge?
  20. I ended up going TW/WP. The build I'm making is 44.2% S/L Defense, 43% E/N defense. S/L Resistance i up at 52.8%, but there's a big drop down to the next damage resist from there. Those numbers are without Defensive Sweep counted. Those numbers, the multiple knockdowns from TW, and the godly regen when surrounded by even 1-2 enemies seemed to be a winner for me. I like the idea of going Ageless Destiny and Vigor alpha as mentioned in this thread.
  21. I've read through most of the threads here in the Brute forum over the last few days. There's a wealth of information here, but I'm seeking a very particular distillation: I don't have any characters that have done Incarnate content yet. I have several 50's, but none that I desire to really "push to the limit." I'm seeking that now. In particular, I'm looking for a Brute that has the ability to main tank the very end-game content while still doing respectable damage. I want to know this is possible, and what builds I might want to look into.

    Now, some guidelines:

    1) I don't intend this to be a farming character. I want to experience the real end-game content, not the AE over and over.

    2) I know that the tank forum is *that way*. I just hate the tank's inability to do damage. If a Brute isn't able to main tank the end-game content, though, I'll migrate over.

    3) I want to avoid the Stone Armor set if at all possible.

    4) I like the theme of War Mace, Titan Weapons, or Super Strength the most, but those aren't deal breakers for me. My favorite characters in other games are the warrior priest model, durable and damaging whose power grows the longer the fight continues (i.e. Brute). Other appropriate mental images are the Avenging Angel or Superman.

    5) I'm perfectly fine with taking taunt. I'm also perfectly fine not taking it. If end-game content calls for it, though, sign me up.

Generally, I'm working in a vacuum. I don't know what a lot of the end-game content throws at you in terms of damage, status effects, etc... Is it at all realistic to envision myself tanking that content as a pre-Incarnate Brute? Are there ways of doing it that aren't just realistic but "easy"? I'd love any assistance in this area as possible. Sample builds, and why they work, are even better.

    Thanks in advance!

-Energy Aura doesn't have a damage aura, damage auras are king for brutes.
-Energy Aura is a defense based set, Resist based sets are typically better for brutes.
Could you elaborate on these latter two items? Why are these things true in particular?
  23. Hey everyone! Just got back from a long break and spent some time perusing the forums before posting this: It seems that EA/KM is an extreme rarity for Brutes, but I'm unsure of why.

It seems like EA is easy enough to reach the soft cap on its own, and the synergy between the sets seems to be there. Entropic Aura slows down enemy recharge, while dramatically boosting your own. Pair that with Siphon Power, which reduces enemy damage quite a bit while stacking +damage on you like crazy. Entropic Aura lets you get more attacks in during the short window that Siphon Power is up, ensuring that you get your 5 stacks (and the ability to spread them around if you like). On the thematic side, the pieces are there too. Pulling the energy from the enemy to redirect and focus back at them in a damaging way.

Is it unpopular because the combo wouldn't be a good farmer? Is it something else that I'm missing?
  24. I've seen a couple of other people do this in other parts of the forum, and I'm always more interested in a character when it can be shared with others. I sought out assistance from "the experts" around the board in putting together a character concept that I could take all the way to 50 and beyond, as my existing 50's no longer interested me. More's the benefit...I don't have a single blaster over level 20, so this is brand new territory for me.

    Scion Omega - Levels 1-12

My goal here was to play something "normal esque". Despite being a big weak on the blasting, Dual Pistols really appeals to me visually...winning out over Assault Rifle and Archery. My secondary was a bit more wide open, but I finally decided on Mental Manipulation for a couple of reasons: 1) I liked the idea of a former military officer on the Praetorian side developing limited psychic powers through natural human potential...and what would then happen to said person when Mother came calling. 2) I most commonly team up with a Brute, and the thought of duoing some AV's with her seemed appealing (aided by MM's -regen).

While primary/secondary combination seemed overly safe. Pistols and Subdual at 1, Dual Wield at 2, Empty Clips at 4, Swap Ammo at 6, Bullet Rain at 8, Psychic Scream at 10, and Stealth at 12. One note to make here: Eventually I'll probably swap out of either Empty Clips or Psychic Scream, just keeping one or the other. Also, I should have probably taken Maneuvers at 10 rather than Stealth. But hey, I was eventually going to pick it or a Stealth IO up...and I can always swap out of it later if I decide on the IO path.

At level 4 I got swept up onto a team, and just over an hour later I was suddenly 12, and it was late. I had to start saying over and over to myself, "You are playing a Blaster, not a Brute. You are playing a Blaster, not a Brute." Suffice to say, it took more than a few times to remember just how squishy I was, and to not go in guns blazing until AFTER the Brute/Tank/Sucker soaked up the aggro first.

I do plan on fully IO'ing this guy out and seeing what type of content I can conquer both solo and duo. I already had a level 12 Achilles -RES recipe drop, while will be going into my Pistols sooner or later. A nice start if I do say so myself.

That's all for now, more to follow tomorrow.
