Quote:Yeah I am beyond shocked (well, not really considering...). Anyway, you get a boat load of new players and they can't easily team? Really? I get the possible issues freebies could cause but then there's the HELP channel. Why not have a server channel? It is something we could have used a long time ago. The entire server can access it much like the HELP channel. Yes, a LFG channel. As the Monday Night Football crew used to say: "C'mon man!"Unfortunately this was predicted months ago. IMO the lockdown on freemium talking is a pretty serious disconnect with common sense. Of course they are are going to talk in the Help channel. That is if they bother continuing with the game after discovering they can't talk (I wouldn't if it had happened to me in the games I've free-played).
Anyway for some reason there actually is a filter for a LFG channel but no actual mechanic for chatting on it that I know of. -

Some good ideas here. You are so close to softcap in a few places that I may try and tweak it to get there. -
Quote:So, do you have a build covering these areas or did you go another direction? From my reading of Time, stealth shouldn't be necessary for good defences at all. The set has a pair of very strong defensive options in Time's Juncture and Farsight. With either Power Boost from Primal Mastery or one of the defence shields from another epic pool, I don't think it'll be too difficult to slot enough ranged defence to cap yourself.
-
I like the build but getting softcapped using STEALTH is never a first choice for me due to the decrease in D during combat. I am trying to get softcap and do away with STEALTH and replace it with Combat Jumping. Oh, I don't use the high end purples and can slot LotG 7.5s etc if need be.
-
The new Mid's is out (much thanks to the crew for making it happen again) and I am trying to put together a BR/Rad build. Softcap D is the key for me. Any ideas, builds etc?
Here's something I am playing around with. Any input would be great.

I'm working on one as well. The new Mids was JUST released and I am working on a build. If anyone has one throw it out there. I am aiming for softcap ranged D and anything else I can softcap.
Here is something I just got together. I think this might be close to the finale.

I did the hero version today. I found it did not flow well and the missions were a bit dull. It would really help if they put a synopsis of why you're doing the mission in the load screen. We could look at that drawing and quickly read what is going on. It would be a bit of a help towards make the story flow for everyone.
I know this was part 1 but having something a bit more epic feeling would have been nice. It felt like a quick mission and nothing grande about it. I would feel rather annoyed if I paid extra $ for this. -
Quote:Another reason why I would prefer if most issues started and finished content with that issue. Instead we're wondering if the Storm is ever coming and other odds and ends. Make each storyline conclude in that issue and have the odd exception. Add completely original material for the issue and the ret will not be as big a problem. One shots! I think a lot of players come and go and don't bother following the nuances of the storylines; the story is often lost on players or others don't care as they have no idea what is going on. Start it and wrap it up quickly!Chiming in here to agree with Arcanaville. The number of storylines that have been mangled or abandoned because the original writers moved on is a tragedy. And she makes a very valid point that allowing retconning in story while not allowing breaking the cottage rule is arbitrary, making no sense when analyzed from that perspective.
Great stories are always welcome. Great stories that don't change what we the players "know" (at least without some heart-searching) would be better X 1000. -
Actually, I think I noted that these AE missions could be added as radios, paper or tip missions. THe current bunch of stuff in the radio et al is pretty weak so why not add some player stuff. Have a contest and winners have their mission ported to one of these formats. No new contacts etc. The actual mission would be made into radios etc. I think some of the current regular CoX content is quite weak. Running around doing radios etc would get new life from a rich source (AE).
-
This is truly disturbing. To charge so much for a freaking costume toggle power? Holy cashgrab, Statesman! This is the type of underhanded scams that made me literally stomp on my CO disc and curse them to hell. If CoX follows their greedy ways then I am so done here.
On that note, if they are adding stuff to the market like, costume pieces, can we have a page where we can see EVERY piece. Not just a toon made up in them but every piece! I know we can preview in the costume editor but sometimes you just miss things. I think a pic/descriptor of all items would go a long way so we can see what we're getting. If not then I will just pass on items.
Oh, no chance in hell I will EVER pay for a ridiculous costume toggle. When I saw that price it was tantamount to a slap in the face. I was disgusted. -
Quote:It is too bad there is still so much focus on GR. The incarnate stuff and most of the issues have been revolving around GR. I do like the idea of the trials...it is a slight change to the norm but we need alternate ways to get iXP and soon. The grind is too much. I think they would have been more fun if there was a more epic feel to them; nothing feels lamer than getting whooped by a turretThat's semi-correct - Going Rogue was officialy announced around the middle of May 2009, and near the end of October 2009 we got the first major info on the Praetorian content at Hero Con - that's where we first heard about the 1-20 content range, the Resisatnce vs loyalist dynamic, the Seers, the PPD and so on - and a few days after, Positron had thes clarifications about the info given out at Hero Con:
So that's basically what we got in August 2010 when GR went live - but the key bit there is the loyalist = Villain and Resistance = Hero - because in an interview in the run-up to the launch of GR, War Witch said that the devs had been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic player response to the loyalist vs Resistance set-up, and that they'd really worked hard to try and meet player expectations, and had even expanded the original Resistance vs loyalists dynamic - which does make it sound like the original idea was for Warden and Power, with Responsibility and Crusader added a bit later - which would expalin why in the early GR beta builds all Resistance missions had the Hero completion music, and all loyalist missions had the Villain mission completion music, and why loyalists could only choose Villain titles, and Resistance could only choose Hero titles.
And as they work on several Issues at once, they would already be working on I19 and planning I20 while still completing GR - as can be seen with places like the BAF, Lambda Sector and the Keyes' Island reactors already being built into the 1-20 zones - so while the original set-up and meta-story was still focused everyone helping the Resistance to defeat Tyrant in the standard CoH style of heroic co-op content, the "late arrival" content like the Responsibility path was more for flavor rather than any long-term content plan - everyone was still going to have to fight agaisnt Tyrant and the loyalists - which is possibly why the responsibilty path has so many big cues for players to turn agaisnt Tyrant - from Inetrrogator Kang and the Seer network, through Mother Mayhem, discovering the invaison plans and finally meeting Tyrant himself and getting to hear just how insane he is.
Also, as an intersting follow-up for all the development process detectives, the Incarnate Trials were originally called "zone events" - which makes it sound like the idea was to run them like the Mothership raid, with players triggering them by doing something in the actual Praetorian zones - for example, taking down the Lambda sector turrets might have been the way to trigger the Lambda event - with possibly something similar for the BAF and its turrets.
At some point though, the devs decided to make them instanced events - possibly because there were issues with rewards/participiation if there weren't any fixed barriers to the area of the event, or that 50+ content in zones inteneded for 1-20s could cause problems for lower levels caught up in the events, or that there were simply lag issues similar to the ones that used to hit the RWZ zone event.
By keeping the locations and the stories, but putting them on instanced zone maps instead of in the actual zones, the devs would be able to help the 50s stay in the right place, give them more story-telling and info options with cut-scenes and captions, and avoid disrupting the players doing the non-Incanrate cotnent in the actual zones.. Man I wish they would add more supers type stuff

Quote:I still don't know where you got the 'seems' from either. Seems like, all in all, I dropped the Malachi crunch on you! OH YEAH!I don't know where you get certainty from "it seems the devs will be neglecting the free servers", Squiggy. All I did was make a suggestion based on an observation, Lenny.
Crap, now I'm out of names. Wait, didn't Mork first appear on Happy Days? Yeah, take THAT, Mork! Nanu nanu! -
So will there be another way to get celestial armor since we can no longer get the tokens in advance? I really hope you guys put it in the store for 400 points like the other costume sets.
-
Ok I will offer you 200 million. Final offer.

Quote:Yeah, this is something I have been talking about for a while: innovations and you provide some good ideas.A year on, Going Rogue is missing these things for me:
1: Rogue content in Paragon City + the Rogue Isles outside of tip/morality missions (conducting deals, making money, smuggling, keeping the law off your back as you chase the almighty dollar.)
2: Vigilante content in the Rogue Isles + Paragon City outside of tip/morality missions (Taking down crooks who the Zig is too good for, going to the Rogue Isles to hunt down someone who's crossed the line, fending off people wanting to bring you in for your brand of justice.)
3: An expansion to the selection of tip and morality missions across the level ranges they occur in. (We had some vigilante and rogue tips added, and 1 new 40-50 Morality mission to each side, but that's it.)
4: Praetorian content on Primal Earth (Primal-fled Resistance trying to take action on an ex-Loyalist, possibly suspecting espionage, Loyalists tracking down Crusader Resistance members for heinous crimes they committed, persecution from Primal residents, a Praetorian-on-Primal subculture, or even Primals wanting to go to Praetoria, thinking it a 'better way'.)
5: Incorporating morality choices and points into story arcs (the arc where you get a warrant put out against you by Crey would make a great point to go Vigilante, or maybe the heat of Arachnos convinces a villain that Paragon might be a safer place to operate.)
6: A chance for heroism in the isles/villainy in the city. More chances to do evil on your own terms, or go to the isles to try and do some good. Especially lacking on the latter.
I can't remember where I posted it before but i will say it again....maybe it is time for some turnover in the dev team. The same old creative design team is bound to become stale and the ideas are not as fresh or exciting; it is human nature. Going Rogue had some decent ideas but it fizzled fast and hard for many, many players. You had to queue to get on to servers when it hit and the player population was booming. That did not last long at all. City or Repetition did it again. -
If a main character does die will it cause them to remove that character's tf? It makes sense to only do so.
I am thinking this is the line of thinking. Let's kill off the guys with a really bad tf. I think it'll be Synapse cuz that tf is the suck. Replace it with another main character/TF. -
Quote:Exactly, Joanie, you don't know what's coming. Although it would make very good sense to have events for new players on regular servers, you've written them off...haven't you, Pinky Tuscadero? Now you change your tune from certainty to maybe they will do something special. Back-pedal much, Big Al?That's right Fonzie, they're doing everything they can to entice VIPs to pack up and move over to Exalted. Discounted transfer tokens, special Exalted-only events. This may be all that's needed to start a mass exodus off the smaller servers (Freedom and Virtue will, undoubtedly, be "fine", such as they are). And face it Potsie, there's just not as much incentive to entice free players as there is to entice paying players. Want to get access to the exclusive dev events, free player? Better sub up so you can get onto Exalted. There's literally no financial reason to care whether or not free players are happy.
No, Ralph Malph, I don't have "background info", and yes, I certainly am guessing based on the available facts, and yes I may be wrong. I definitely hope I'm wrong, but I've lost quite a bit of confidence in this game in the past year or two, so I reserve the right to be more than a little worried. -
-
Quote:LOL. Wow. Paranoid much? Hahahahaha!...and this is why.
This is a gross violation of my privacy and civil rights, and I will not subject myself to this. I will be unsubscribing permanently as soon as I send this message. I'm posting this so that whoever in NCSoft may see it that may change this. If you take this out, I may continue to subscribe in the future. But as it stands, I'm done. I've been paying for the past seven years almost, and for the last two or three without even playing most of the time. No more.
Oh, can I have all your stuff? -
Quote:Neglecting? Wow. Someone is reaching a bit there. Any evidence of this, Chachi? They are having events for the early start (which is for VIPs only) on the VIP server. Uh? Riiiiiiiight.Exalted (the new VIP server). It seems the devs will be neglecting the "free" servers.
Although if you ever intend to play as a Premium then you should absolutely not do this, obviously.
It is this type of commentary that really is irresponsible and misinforms new/returning players. Just sad. Unless you're an employee @ PS or have secret info, you just don't know what the plan is.
Oh, how much INF would you like to bet when the F2P portion goes live, there will be a lot of events to excite new players. Do you think they may want to keep these freebie players? Ya think? Isn't that way this large change in business model is all about? To entice the new players with 'free' gaming then entice them into spending $? Maybe?
To the OP: I would suggest Virtue. People label it the role play server but that is only a very small part of the population. It is often the #1 server load and you get a more adult crowd there; not so much on Freedom. Union is also a good idea for off hours and they sometimes also hit medium loads during their peak hours. Having said all this, who knows how busy servers will get when the F2P model takes effect. -
I really, really dislike IOing out a toon. The crafting, running around etc is just not fun. I think it was set up as a time sink once upon a time but now there is so much in the game we don't need to waste time.
OP made some good points about all the resources being spread out and just a pain in the butt. You need the IOs to super out your toon and is a, somewhat, unavoidable process.
I don't think it needs an overhaul. Maybe some fine tuning. -
Quote:I'll bother, because it's fun to play there. I really don't get comments like this. :S People who like Praetoria will make characters in Praetoria.
Meh. You have a bit of a point here. Making tilesets is rather resource intensive though, and personally I'd rather they spend their art resources on other stuff than maps.
This is the basic gameplay of the game. I really don't see how they can change it without, well, turning it into another game.
I'd like to have seen a TF of sorts to round off the Praetorian content. I was rather disappointed to learn that there wasn't one, since I really expected it.
They added the zone events (which are rather fun imo and woefully underused). I really don't see what more they would add? You outlevel stuff as it is. You can run 4 characters through Praetoria and not repeat a single mission. (except Marauder) There's more stuff in Praetoria than in Coh and CoV lvl 1-20 combined. Asking more Praet content also clashes a bit with your next point.
I like Praetoria and certainly wouldn't call it weak and I'm sure many others feel the same. Not sure about the Well of the Furies bit, but we'll see where that goes.
This has me miffed. I can understand that some stuff (or a lot of stuff) that we've gotten over the past year(s) wasn't for you. But I really don't see how you can look at all the changes, the fulfilment of player requests, the future plans, and the obvious enthusiasm of our devs and then conclude that they've 'become complacent and lost their zeal'. Looking at your post (especially the bits about gameplay) I can't shake the impression that it is you who has lost his zeal for this game. (Not an accusation, it happens.)
I think we will have to agree to disagree here. It really is a preference. I started this thread to get an idea of how GR has been received after a year by the players. Obviously you're liking it and that's great. I think it is 'so so' and wish they went in another direction. Finally, if you read the thread you will see a vast majority did not care too much for GR. -
You're wrong. It can be offensive still. Get over it. Think of another name and move along before someone accuses you of trolling.
