That sounds likely to be a memory leak. Have you had it since I17 launched? Like I said: we're not seeing them internally anymore...but that doesn't mean we fixed the issue you're having. I need more details to know what was happening to you.

I did not mean to imply that the game is leak free, but if you are experiencing a memory leak that prevents you from playing for more than 20-45 minutes and it is not related to your graphics drivers, I would really like to hear about it.

Also, we've had a couple threads going in the last few months to try to identify leaks but we believe that we have resolved what we were able to identify. If you are experiencing another memory leak, especially if it's this bad, please PM me the details. We may need to start another thread to get some more information.

Edit: if this is happening all the time, no matter what you do, let me know. I don't personally get that behavior and it doesn't look like we're seeing it in QA, so I'll need specific information about your setup. If there are specific things you do to get it, that's extremely useful information to us

I'm glad this ended up working out for you. For anyone else having the same problem: we've seen similar behavior (insanely bad memory leak) with some ATI Radeon HD 4*** series cards with the drivers that card ships with. Upgrading to the 10.4 drivers appears to have resolved the issue.

I am really, really glad you brought this up! It has been a major point of confusion for a lot of people. There is a right way and a wrong way to read the Television. The right way is as follows:

    1) begin by assuming/imagining the following text at the beginning of every Television post: "The screen flicks on. It shows an image of the most attractive programmer you have ever seen in your entire life. This guy is a Greek God of cool. You must either be watching some kind of reality show for impossibly gorgeous people or a documentary on one of the world's most brilliant minds (of all time)."

You can assume that part because I'm speaking in my programmer voice, and I'm pretty sure that's how people would describe me if they saw me on Television.

    2) read whatever I put in my post as though it were in quotes. That's what the intimidatingly beautiful programmer on screen is saying. Try to read a little extra wit and charm into it, because I'd add those if I weren't so busy.

    3) Finally, finish up with: "The programmer now turns his heart-breaking-ly beautiful gaze directly at you. Please, viewers, do not forsake your friend the Television or berate it with criticism of its role playing. Do not discriminate against the beautiful. No, you should embrace beauty by watching Television and the I17 graphics upgrade in CoV."

I've checked everything on my end that I possibly can. My settings haven't change in over two weeks (since i17) so nothing should be any different than before. Any help here would be great.
Is this happening on PTS as well?

I'd copy over from live. The original problem was that your updater deleted a bunch of your files in a fit of rage and frustration. Your updater has been pacified, but in order to avoid having to get all those files again, just copy from live. The change from live should be tiny.

Please let me know if anyone else is still having this or a similar issue.

No longer a threat. Besides, I played that arc with a villain and it went great.

Any non-CoV programs that caused problems with CoV when you ran them alongside CoV, or vice-versa.

    Examples:
    Ati Hotkey-Poller
    Ventrilo
    etc.

Note that this doesn't mean that CoV is officially supporting using these programs alongside CoV...we're just hoping that they no longer cause problems with CoV.

The Television doesn't particularly care about Heroes having these problems (or in general...who does?), so don't worry about testing blue side. Edit: Unfortunately, the fix will work equally well or poorly on both sides, though this is obviously unfortunate.

  10. Could those of you experiencing this issue try the build on PTS and see if you're still having trouble there? Please let me know.

  13. The build on PTS has a potential fix for the problems I17 introduced concerning:
    1) input lag
    2) packet loss
    3) 3rd party software not playing nicely with CoV.

If you are experiencing this issue on live, please try out PTS so we can figure out whether or not this will solve the problems you are experiencing.

For those of you getting the crash, could you please try out the build we just put up on Training Room?

blah blah bah, play CoV and watch Television.

I haven't contacted Tech Support, but I did PM Arbiter Kim and ask him to point the correct people to this thread.

As I said, clicking OK makes everything work as though I never got the error, but clicking Cancel begins the 18+ verifiction/downloading/fixing cycle.
As cool as the Arbiters are, tech support is typically the way to go for this kind of issue (in my opinion)--they have the time and resources to track down issues with your particular setup. Arbiters are a good way to get stuff to the devs, but we are of very limited help for problems that are caused by a specific configuration. A solution from the devs will typically have to go through the build and publish process (takes forever) where tech support will give you practical advice to get you playing in a few minutes.

The Television is always on. Please feel free to speak to it directly via your living room as well. Don't be concerned if it doesn't always respond, it's just a very good listener. The message is still getting through.

Have you already taken a look at this? I haven't seen your specific problem, but one that's very much like it:
updater problem solution from tech support

If this doesn't work and you don't hear back from them by tomorrow, please PM me.

i don't think that Nurse_Bianca was using "idiot" as a pejorative, but instead as a reference to the lighthearted and ironic nickname "Idiot Box", AKA The Television. Using it on the forums is like flashing the (Edit) [small, nocturnal, winged mammal]-signal into the night sky.

    Bianca:
    1) have you contacted tech support yet?
    2) what operating system are you using?
  20. The Television shows a room full of people clapping and cheering...though with the kind of hesitation you get when you haven't completely verified what you're excited about and know you could be celebrating for nothing. Still, they're excited. This thread contains the information they were looking for.

And then, you should only disable services you *know* you don't need. Disabling all after a simple filter can cause all sorts of problems.

That's some irresponsible advice by NCSoft.

Well, irresponsible advice from The Television anyway. It acknowledges the wisdom of your post and edited its post to reflect the enlightenment you have bestowed upon it.

On the same machine with everything running the same way the life servers are fine. Maybe that might help track some issues down.
When you were in beta, did you try the steps that stopped any 3rd party programs/services from running at start-up? Nothing else changed?

The Television is showing a commercial for CoH Tech support.

The Tech support guy is talking about how hardly anyone is calling them about I17, and that they've only gotten a handful of tickets.

Tech support is pleading with the great players of CoV to please contact them so that the streets of the Rogue Isles can be filled with their happy faces once again.

Finally, Tech support kindly suggests that you are not watching enough Television, and asks you to try to up your daily dosage.

Screen flicks on, blah blah blah...

So far, everyone I have talked to who has had this issue was able to resolve it by either:
(Edit: this issue = the input lag problem)
(Edit Edit: input lag problem does not = framerate issue. You may have to lower your settings if your framerate is too low)
(Edit Edit Edit: What is your OS? --question courtesy of Texas Justice)

    1) updating their drivers or
    2) turning off other third party software that was interfering with CoH. Examples are ATI hotkey poller and the Google desktop thing.

Please (please) contact tech support if you're having trouble doing the above. They have specific steps that you can follow to verify that this is what's going on and find the actual problem.

blah blah blah...play CoV and watch Television.
