Quote:They have actually been happening every night, so long as I start them. Sometimes it takes a little while to get off the ground but once they get going they last a while and are fun. We've had nights where we have had to fat kid people from 8v8v8s and stuff. Been a lot of good close matches.Alot of good Kickballs on Freedom lately. If you havent recently participated they happen a few times a week in the evening, good to get a feel for arena PvP if your new. Alot of helpful people if you have questions about builds and PvPing in general.
Recently we've been trying to push not using Lore Pets which has actually worked out decent (most people stopped using them).
People seem to be having fun and not getting butthurt about losing or getting farmed (save some isolated incidinces...)
Anyways, I try to start forming them around 7 or 8 central, so keep a watch on arena chat or this channel and they are popping up basically every night. -
Some things I noticed just glancing at it:
Energy Punch is a useless power that you will never use. Get rid of it.
If you are going tough/ice I would go with leadership over concealment, while concealment will offer a little bit more survivability the added offense from Leadership is going to be faaaar more worth it. It will allow you to see people who use stealth + stealth IO, (Which is most people) who you would probably not see without outside buffs with 0 perception. A blasters main job is to **** damage, and without leadership you might have problems doing that. Plus if you Hib the full 30 seconds nophase will kick in and make Phase pointless.
on a blaster you will want capped HP if you don't have that already, and no if it's only in hoarfrost that doesn't count. Also it looks like your damage bonus might be kinda low looking at the sets you have, I would work on that before recharge.
Also for zone a cheap build will work just fine but if you plan on doing 1v1 or any other kind of arena you are going to want a much heftier build, with as many procs as you can jam into your fire attacks.
Also I don't find myself using power thrust that much, although it's funny to use against people with low KB protection.
Just some general stuff to look into. -
I don't know anything about EA really but in general for Stalkers, offense is going to be your main focus, jam in as many procs as you can while retaining as close to ED numbers as possible... HP cap is going to be a big focus for IO bonuses also for anything that isn't WP.
Don't underslot your travel powers, keep in mind there's not many attacks as a stalker that you will actually use often and slot accordingly.
EA isn't the best defense set by any means right now, but in i21 it is going to get a self heal (Energize) and some other goodies, which will make it perfectly viable Stalker secondary. -
Really depends on what you want it for... I'm assuming 1v1, so I would say therm is your better bet for that. For anything above like 5v5 arena I would almost always prefer a rad.

Quote:Yeah I'm pretty sure by and large people who are truly interested in this will resub, even if it is begrudgingly.Just to address this and your last point, Controllers and Masterminds are not available in the F2P sub (you have to unlock Controllers and Masterminds) so TK would be locked from F2P players without Controllers unlocked (they could probably get it on a Dom, Defenders or villains). Other issues might arise from f2p as well in PvP (IOs come to mind).
I don't expect this to be an issue for most of us though.
Also I think we are already probably looking at a post i21 start date, though hopefully we won't have to wait very long after that to start it. One reason I started the GP site is to let people who aren't actually subbed show up and let us know if they are interested, and give people time to get their groups together, burn the rust off, and give people plenty of time to get teams situated. -
Quote:Good stuff, agreed on all points. In all reality you can make a perfectly good stalker without spending a ton of money, though obviously it helps (procs especially). I would shoot for 3 procs in AS for sure, WP is a safebet for an easy to build stalker, like said above, easy to HP cap, recon, easy to cap percep, a little res. Other than that your main focuses for set bonuses are going to be +damage, +accuracy and +recharge, in that order.Well on any stalker build you should have Hide + Stealth + a Stealth IO, your build does not have a stealth IO.
I would recommend taking Total Focus over Bone smasher, aswell as switching the slotting around on AS and ET. If you become good at using AS, it's much better to have the more procs in that power. It's also suggestible that you slot AS with 3 Nucleo and 3 procs but I prefer the Heca set and an extra proc; I like the rech and end reduction values in my AS but its player preference.
You should slot your sharks for damage and not Knockback, even if that set does give you 7.5% recharge (Which btw isn't needed). The only players you will KB with sharks are poorly built ones or flyers, and if you come across a flyer you can just use Shark jaws to bring them down. Sharks has a fast recharge so 3 Nucleo and 3 procs works wonders in that power.
WP is imo the best secondary for stalker, it has everything and one thing it comes with is the ability to cap the hp by simply adding 2-3 Heal enchancements into High Pain Threshold, this will open up a lot more options, slotting wise for your build. It will give you the chance to work in damage bonuses etc. Wp also comes with KB protection so don't waste slots on KB IO's.
Superspeed is underslotted and you should definately slot that up some more. A stalker needs speed; for chasing and getting away. Also learn to use invisibility as a getaway tool, once travel supression ends on you, you will soon exit most peoples perception range if you're using invis as you try to escape.
I hope this helped.
Morti.
Also I really encourage that you try and get good at ASing if you aren't yet, it's really sad to see stalkers who are satisfied with spamming sharks. -
Thank you for your expert opinion Hot.
It really depends on what you want to do... There's pretty much a 1 best thing for every role, psy/em for ranged damage, earth/fire or mind/fire if you want ranged with mez, stalker is a stalker not a huge deal which primary you go with, would reccomend WP for secondary, rad/ fenders are still your goto debuff toon, emps are still your favored support toons, though pain doms are good for breaking TK in arena. TAs can be pretty nasty when used by someone who is good at them, for disruption purposes.
For 1v1/duel stuff there's a fair amount of viable toons but I'm not a big duelist so I don't really know what to tell you there.
I will not reccomend any melee toons because lolmelee.
There's other stuff that is probably better for small team arena, but if you went into what's viable in 1v1 and 2v2/3v3 sort of things that would be a very long post.
I'm also feeling far too lazy to go into detail why what I listed are your best bets for PvP toons now, I'm sure if you came back and played a little you would see why pretty quickly. -
Quote:Stalkers are something that you can easily get away with running a cheaper build (Under 2-3 bill or so)... While I don't condone relying on Sharks to PvP on a Stalker, they are effective. However learning to AS targets when they root themselves or get mez'd will go a long way in playing a good stalker... Also since you went with Spines foregoing Levi is very viable because Impale is sort of like Sharks with shorter range, and a smidge less damage. My Spines/WP went with Blaze mastery for the blasty feel of the set and because Reactive makes it pretty deadly.I would like to start pvp ing so i decided to roll a spines/WP/Levi stalker for that purpose.Read many guides for pvp and saw many builds but most of them are outdated.I would apreciate any help or a no-purp-pvp recipes slotted build.Thank you in advance!
Other than that, IO for damage, accuracy and rech. Make sure your travel powers are close to the movement cap as much as possible. Oh and damage procs are you best friend.
Hope that helps, throwing out shameless advertisement to the "Freedom PvP 2011" global channel while I'm at it. -

220 members and growing still... (Well 219 if you want to be nitpicky about it.)
-
indeed lol... had so many people show up for KB tonight that the vent we are using couldn't hold everyone. (25 user limit)

Quote:Agreed on everything in that statement, although as far as incarnates go popular opinion is that alpha should still be allowed. I agree it's a turn off to people who might be coming back for something like this to be forced to grind the others.Fewer bans = better (Agreed)
TK Soul Storm Stalag - who really cares learn to break the TK via range or mez (agreed)
All Incarnates = garb and a waste of time so ban them so people can come back and not have to actually spend time in this game.
Taunt limit it to 2 because if you are going over 2 you are being a ****** and just trying to bore someone to death.
Stalkers keep it to 2-3 we all know the shrak spike strategy and thats not really pvp.
Keep it to blind submissions
Pray that you have the population to support this.
That's the million dollar question though huh... will we have enough... We are hoping people who might not have done it before will do it this time around... also looking at the fact that some people have already returned just to see what the fuss is all about is encouraging. -
I'm on board with any new arena maps they want to add since we have had the same ones forever.

Quote:Nice, thanks. Up to 192 members now after advertising on the forums, channel has only been around for 4-5 days.Adding it now, Vel. Thanks for the heads up.
BTW, Shadowy: I'll check the status on those globals and update the original post. There is "sorta" a way to cull names automatically, but AFAIK it doesn't work right. I'll have to look into it. -
Hotel just wants a new map that is completely open so he can take his OP taunt bot in there and make everyone rage.

Artic and I took the liberty of setting up an external GP site for a Freedom League/Ladder, anyone interested should sign up there.
http://www.guildportal.com/Guild.asp...&TabID=3621623
There are not going to be any blacklists and all feedback is appreciated as long as it's constructive.
Me and a few others think this is the best way to get this situated, get an idea of who is going to participate, and have more control over the process.
That said, advertising through the official CoH forums is also a good thing. Just try and direct them to that site when applicable. -
There's stuff that benefits from reactive more than others, like fire blast and other DoT heavy sets... fire corruptors are pretty decent again and I bet fire fenders will be pretty good with reactive. Reactive has a chance to tick on each DoT tick of damage from the attack itself.

Cool story bro. Keep bringing publicity to this thread, it's working well.

Quote:We have enough Sheeple on this forum, go home.Personally, I appreciate the communications we receive from our devs and most of the time I marvel at how much interaction they provide us.
Recently I had a run-in with some not-so-communicative types in another game that basically told everyone unable to physically play at all immediately after a patch to kiss off then uninstall/reinstall and if that doesn't work, just wait.
So, I'm happy to give up some time without knowing exactly why it is happening simply to be able to physically play the game at all.
Thanks devs, thank you for caring enough about the quality of play to take an hour to fix something that is obviously a big enough issue rather than letting everyone suffer through the problems!
