Quote:This is most likely your problem. There are known problems with the ATI driver versions from 11.5 through 11.8 but most people aren't having these problems with the new 11.9 drivers.Monitor:
Monitor's Max Resolution: (blank)
Video Device Name: ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series
Manufacturer / Chip: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. / ATI display adapter (0x68BE)
Video Memory: 745 MB
Driver Version: 8.881.0.0
Driver Date: 7/28/2011 2:39:14 PM
Driver Language: English
I'd recommend following proper uninstall old drivers and CCC, reboot in Safe Mode to run Driver Sweeper, reboot in normal mode and install the new drivers and CCC method to get the newest drivers installed cleanly.
If you are still having issues after that, then we can look at other possible problems.
EDIT: Also, make sure you are setting the Launcher to close after starting the game. There are memory leaks that others have tracked down to the Launcher remaining open. See Hyperstrike's guide on the settings for the Launcher for instructions. -
Quote:Crashing doesn't penalize you by giving you a Common. If you get a reward other than threads, you get a random roll. Period. It seems if you try to rotate your look with the Mouse-Look option very quickly, the game will crash to the desktop.
I've been crashing to the desktop about, oh, once every hour and a half. Usually during a trial, so I get stuck with a common reward. Love being penalized for the program fault.
Crashing doesn't change your reward unless it causes you to not meet the metric for participation so that you get the threads or if it crashes at the end and you don't get back in before the end of the trial so get no reward at all. -
Quote:Occaisionally there are files in the older driver that have a different name than the files in the newer drivers or are put in a different location than where the newer driver puts them.I can see doing this when DOWN-grading drivers. I still wonder why this is ever necessary when UP-grading a driver from the same company that wrote the previous drivers. Is the answer simply that they suck or are careless at writing the install/uninstall programs?
Both situations can cause problems, especially the latter example since Wiindows doesn't know which of those locations to look at when something calls for that file.
In my experience, it is very rare for any hardware vendor to write an uninstall program for their drivers and software that fully removes all of their files.
Having worked in Technical Support for a hardware vendor in the past, one of the first steps in getting a products drivers and software to install correctly was to uninstall the previous installation attempt that failed for whatever reason (usually due to people not following the directions to Insert CD First or Insert CD Before Connecting Cables). To completely uninstall it we usually had to walk them through the registry (a scary proposition with some of our customers) as well as manually deleting files and folders. When we asked the software engineers to write the uninstall utility to do this or to write a separate utility to remove these traces, our requests were denied.
That's been my experience with hardware and software since I started dealing with computers in the 1980's. I still have to manually remove parts of drivers and software I've uninstalled since the uninstallers often don't remove everything. -
First, you have to convince someone to write a utility to do such a thing on OS X. Does anyone actually write free utilites for OS X?
Then you install that utility.
Then you use that utility in the prescribed manner. -
As stated by others, you can do radio missions that will eventually open new contacts, you can also keep doing Montague's arc and he'll introduce you to someone, or you can use the Find Contact button in the Contact window to find a Contact.

Considering all of the Unknown and Unknonwn (2147483647) entries, I'd say it's possibly not setting the registry entries correctly.

Quote:He was using an 8400 GS previously, not the onboard video chipset. It would be helpful for you to run coh helper again and post your results.
Doing a quick model search of your HP might have given us a clue.
GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 is the MB chipset. If I recall correctly, this onboard video is very old and is not stable on the more recent Nvidia graphics drivers. I'll have to dig up the forum posts, because I don't recall which drivers you need but I do remember you need a very old driver.
Edit: here we go. seach fu....use 197.45 drivers. Later drivers seem to have issues with CoH.
He has the GT 430 now. That card isn't supported with the 197.45 drivers. The oldest drivers I can find for that card are the 260.89 drivers from last October.
Win7 64-bit
But I agree, a new CoH Helper would be appreciated. -
Quote:City of Heroes released on April 28, 2004 (A few sites incorrectly list it as April 27, 2004). It did not release on the 4th as you claim. My sub renews near the end of the month as it always has, not near the beginning of the month.By February they'll have cranked through the data and they'll know when to release things for maximum profit (hint: It'll be the first of the month, because that's just before most long-term player's start day of the 4th, which was release day) and they'll know how long to leave things on sale.
You may want to check your "facts" before posting things like that. It makes the rest of your post look suspect. -
LJ, what Tex is saying is that while you are in Safe Mode, set the graphics options as you want them, click Apply, then quit the game and start in non-Safe Mode. The changes you made in Safe Mode should stick.
My recommendation is always to Start in Safe Mode, make one change, launch in Normal mode. Does it work right? Okay. Start in Safe Mode. Make that first change and another change, launch in Normal mode. Does it work right? Rinse, repeat as necessary. If it gets to a setting that causes it not to work right, go back into Safe Mode and make the changes except for that one. Make it either a less drastic change (From Low to Medium instead of from Low to Very High) or leave it at the reduced setting and try changing a different setting instead.
Yes, that's a lot more steps, but it lets you see exactly which setting is causing your problems. Armed with that knowledge you may be able to find a better solution to the problem or know that it just won't handle that setting.
For example, I leave Ambient Occlusion set to Off since I don't like what it does to my framerates. For a while AO wasn't playing nicely at all with one of the other settings (FSAA I think, could have been AF) and you could select one or the other but selecting both was causing major issues. Even with that fixed AO is still a resource hog, so I'd rather leave it Off and have better framerates. -
Quote:So, how did you install 11.9?So after reading still mostly positive posts about 11.9 solving all the problems I thought maybe it was just me, so I tried again, using the settings posted in this thread.
As soon as someone activated their powers next to me in Wentworths I blue screen crashed again, after only 10 minutes of play.
So yeah - I guess I'll have to stick with 11.3 but wanted to post here as I got the impression the Devs think that the AMD issues are all fixed.
Fingers crossed for 11.10 I guess....
Did you upgrade over the top of the existing drivers?
Did you uninstall the old drivers then simply install the new drivers?
Or did you uninstall the old drivers, boot into Safe Mode and run Driver Sweeper (or a similar utility), boot into normal Windows and install the new drivers?
If it wasn't the last one then you aren't doing it right. -

Quote:And he was wrong.did you not read what he said dude? he said they nerfed it from when it was on beta IE he played it on BETA and when it came OUT they nerfed it and did NOT say anything about the nerf.....
Several people have already provided the quote by Clockwork 01 that the set was not changed since it was removed from Beta.
If he had played it on Beta, that would be even more of a knock against his claims that he didn't know what the set was like.
I believe you are misinformed in this regard, but if Shubbie wants to step up and say he played it on Beta, I'll accept that statement.
I don't think that's going to happen. -
Quote:ok, not that it pertains to the game at all, but your response (and those like it) are quite obviously not familiar with the concept of software testing. you DON't make changes to a tested and tweaked piece of software BETWEEN testing and release... it renders the testing moot. why is this a hard concept for folks to grasp? now, as to whether or not the OP deserves a refund is debatable, but his logical process for being upset is sound.
Except that they didn't make changes to the set as the OP claims. -
-
When they are Beta testing something, there are usually ways provided for testing that something.
Currently, they aren't testing the Paragon Market or Street Justice on Beta. -

So.
You bought something without knowing the full details about it.
You didn't research it in any way.
Like reading the posts in the forums the last few weeks discussing it.
The same posts that had links to videos on YouTube.
Or if you are a VIP you didn't bother to read anything about it that is on the Beta forums. Those forums are open to any VIP to read since it was a VIP Beta.
You and a few others didn't know you could type the name of the powers in the chat box and see the information already in the game. It's information that has been stated several times in the forum since we got the ability to drag and drop powers, enhancements, etc into the Chat box. Not really what I'd call obscure, but we'll leave that one alone.
You didn't bother looking at any other sources for information that you most likely already knew were available like Paragon Wiki.
And instead of doing any research, or waiting for more information to be released, or asking on the forums for information about it you just went ahead and purchased it as soon as it was released without knowing what you wanted to know about it?
I don't agree that IMustHaveItNaoEvenThoughIKnowNothingAboutIt attitudes should get any special treatment.
You also falsely claimed that it was changed between when it was on Beta and when it was released.
If you hadn't been looking at information available on the forums where did you get that bit of misinformation from? It certainly wasn't in the store.
I deal with High School students all day. Even they can see the fail in your logic. -
Quote:I would like to point out that your post that I quoted had nothing to do with whether or not there is any other recourse. Your post was a comment that by law any player in the EU can claim a refund within 7 days. And that was all that your post said. My post was only about that comment in that it pointed out that this was not the place for any player to claim a refund. The problem is does he have any other recourse? Paragon claim by their EULA they don't have to give a refund (Much like shops will try, until you mention the law) if they don't come out with a way to preview a powerset before purchase, they will get a lot more of these threads.
You are correct, the EULA that you deride in so many threads states that they do not have to give a refund. But, in the past when Customer Service has been presented with a request for a refund and it is backed by a logical and rational reason for requesting the refund, they have given them.
However, as Lothic pointed out, the forums aren't the place to ask for a refund. There is a place to do that and it is with Customer Service.
Ranting on the forums, especially when you make false statements as the OP did (with regard to it having been changed since it was removed from Beta), doesn't do a thing to get a refund processed. -

Quote:Just pointing out inaccuracies. As I tend to do at times. Especially when it's an inaccuracy being repeated by several people. Especially when I have a Dev quote available to back up what I'm saying. While you're absolutely correct, please examine the quotes from Shubbie & NT. Hopefully I haven't misunderstood some humor on your part.
Your quote didn't enlarge the text as my quote did, so looking at it that way it's losing the context.
Could I have trimmed out the rest of NT's post and left only that sentence? Sure.
But I liked leaving the rest of the quote there since it had so much win in how it was worded.
It would have worked so much better if NT had corrected that line to say:
The set wasn't changed from the time it came off beta but before live, and did not go back on test. -
Quote:They are two separate buttons. They move independently of each other. How do you drag them? I have tried that and it didn't work. Do I click on the buttons themselves and drag? I tried clicking between them, above and around them, etc. to no avail.
Why would you try clicking between, above or around them? They don't have a border with a clickable area like the Menu section, Map section, Target section, chat windows, power trays, etc. -
If you are a VIP, there is a setting in Menu > Options that will let you hide either or both. You can also drag them to any space on the screen that you want.
If you are not a VIP, you can drag them to any space on the screen that you want. You cannot hide them.
Well, you can hide them if you become a VIP.
