I think if folks were rewarded for helping other folks earn a badge then this issue would sort of correct itself without having to rework the badge requirements etc.

I think it will encourage new blood to join the league because those that already have the badge can't get the league this extra small reward so it can't be "gamed" to milk the system so-to-speak.
The trial badges already work this way. Currently, any badge requirements fulfilled by the league results in an extra astral merit for each one. Also, there is a random uncommon salvage drop for the first 3 badges earned and a random rare drop for the master badge. The problem is, its not enough of an incentive.

As an example: Why would a team spend an extra half hour working on bombs in the Underground trial for an extra astral merit when they could run a BAF trial in that same time and earn 5 of them?
  2. The badges are also included in my Issue 21.5 Badges post
  3. I got this last night. The two new winter event badges did it for me. I'm at 1301 now.
  4. The original post has been updated with the two new winter event badges.

The information on these badges comes from badge-hunter.com. I'm simply posting it here for convenience for anyone that doesn't check that site.

Nope. Just the ones in the first phase count. Which means that you'll have to run that phase multiple times to get them all.
  6. Great job everyone. This trial is a bit tough at first, but not that bad once you get the hang of it. It does require some good coordination though. I was worried for a minute there on the second run when the timer was getting close, but we were able to do it. Thanks again to everyone that ran this with us tonight.

    • Do you have to get to 250 Public Opinion for the badge?
    • Or did I miss a third challenge at some point?
I'm not sure since I have not yet been able to earn this badge. Perhaps Snow Globe would know since the original post and information was from him.

I am pretty sure that we got teleported out after hitting 3 of the terminals, so would that mean we need to click the last 2 terminals in a room at the same time? Or do we simply need to make sure that we use A,B, C, D terminals all at least 1 time each out of the few times that we are in each room?

I am not sure that my question is very clear, if people have trouble understanding what I am asking I will try to clean it up some, but I have to head out for a bit, so no more posting from me for a while.
You don't have to get all 4 terminals each time you are in the building. You just have to get all 4 in each building at some point in the trial. I got the badge today and that was how it worked for me.

At any rate I don't think I'm going to worry about "farming" this one unless I find other people interested in doing it. Like you say it sounds like a badge that will happen after a certain number of runs regardless.
I didn't keep count. It was in the 10-15 range, I think. We were up to 15/16 AVs for several runs before Paladin finally spawned.

Not sure of the chances for them spawning - they may all be equal. I can tell you that the last one that appeared for my group was Paladin. That may have just been pure chance though.

It has to be in multiple runs of the trial. Three random monsters spawn each time, so it takes a few runs to get all 16 of them.

My team got the badge last night by running the first phase, then quitting and doing it again repeatedly. But I think that anyone who runs the trial on a regular basis will eventually get this one without any special effort.

It took away my control to edit the list before posting, it makes it harder for those looking for my list of badges to find the new badge list a few months down the line, and he didn't bother to wait even a day to see if I was going to do it.
I apologize for stealing your thunder. I had no idea I was going to get this kind of reaction from posting a simple badge list. If I had known that you intended to post it later today, I would not have done so myself. And if it helps any, I certainly won't be posting any lists in the future.

Well if you really feel that way, I'll delete the post. I was just trying to help out in the forums since I couldn't find any other topic outside of beta that even mentioned the badges

  16. Here is a repost from the Beta forums for the new badges that went live today. Since not everyone may have access to those forums, I thought it would be a good idea to have the badges listed here too. The original poster was Snow Globe.

    Trial Badges

    Section 1: TPN Trial Badges
    Master of TPN Campus.
    • Hint text - Achieve the following special achievements during the TPN Campus Incarnate Trial: Spin Doctor, News Flash, Fair & Balanced, Television Addict and Tonight's Top Story.
    • Completion text - You have mastered the Incarnate Trial: TPN Campus.
    Sub-badges:
    • Spin Doctor
      • Hint text - None.
      • Completion text - You have completed the Incarnate Trial: TPN Campus.
    • News Flash
      • Hint text - Complete all three 500-point Public Opinion challenges, taking no more than 8 minutes per challenge, and then finish the trial.
      • Completion text - You managed to successfully complete each major broadcast to the people of Praetoria within a few minutes, establishing to the world that Tyrant's Imperial forces are no obstacle to the Incarnates and their mission to deliver the truth to the people during the raid on TPN Campus.
    • Fair & Balanced
      • Hint text - Do not allow a single Telepathist to convert 4 or more citizens for the duration of TPN Campus, and then finish the trial.
      • Completion text - The Imperial forces threw some of Mother Mayhems' mindwashing Telepathists at the populace in an effort to turn them against you, and you stepped up to shut them down. No Telepathist managed to convert four citizens during the raid on TPN Campus.
    • Television Addict
      • Hint text - Complete all four terminals in all three buildings during each 500-point Public Opinion challenge, while also keeping H.D. above 80% health at all times, and then finish the trial.
      • Completion text - During the raid on TPN Campus, H.D. offered you his assistance in delivering the truth to the world, with only his protection as his price. You accepted his bargain and delivered far better than would be expected with the IDF swarming the facility, thus ensuring that H.D. had the greatest chance to deliver your message with no interference.
    • Tonight's Top Story
      • Hint text - Defeat Maelstrom within four minutes during each of his three encounters.
      • Completion text - Maelstrom arrived during the raid on TPN Campus to send a message of his own: that he would not allow the Incarnates to spread their 'lies'. Not only did his efforts fail, but you also managed to defeat him handily, adding his humiliating defeats to your message to the people of Praetoria.

Section 2: Minds of Mayhem Badges
    Master of Minds of Mayhem
    • Hint text - Achieve the following special achievements during the Minds of Mayhem Incarnate Trial: Mental Voyager, Dreamwalker, A Perfect Storm, Daylight Saver and Lost Connection to Server.
    • Completion text - You have mastered the Incarnate Trial: The Minds of Mayhem.
    Sub-badges:
    • Mental Voyager
      • Hint text - None.
      • Completion text - You have completed the Incarnate Trial: The Minds of Mayhem.
    • Dreamwalker\Dreamkiller
      • Hint text - Defeat all of Malaise's possible nightmares at least once.
      • Completion text - Through persistence or madness, you have faced down the many nightmares of Malaise while battling him in the dreamscape of the Minds of Mayhem.
      • Required Arch-Villains - Eochai, Jack in Irons, Paladin, Babbage, Adamastor, Jurassik, Crystal Titan, Kronos, Lanaruu the Crazed, Ruladak the Strong, Lord Winter, Bat'Zul, Deathsurge, Caleb, Lichen-Infested War Walker, Avatar of Hamidon (note - these must be defeated in phase 1 of the trial. The versions that appear in phase 4 don't count)
    • A Perfect Storm
      • Hint text - Defeat Penelope Mayhem while creating no more than 4 Eyes of the Storm, then complete the trial.
      • Completion text - Despite the furious typhoon of psychic energy enveloping you within Mother Yin's layer of the Minds of Mayhem, you were able to keep calm, efficiently using the precious Eyes of the Storm to put an end to Mother Mayhem's hold on Penelope Yin.
    • Daylight Saver
      • Hint text - Defeat Mother Mayhem without allowing Aurora Borealis' health to drop below 75%, and then complete the trial.
      • Completion text - Deep within the Minds of Mayhem, you came across the long-suffering Aurora Borealis, whose body and mind had been taken over by Shalice Tilman. Separating the two was never going to be an easy task, but you did it while causing minimal risk to Aurora Borealis, delivering her from Tilman's torment with a minimum of suffering.
    • Lost Connection to Server
      • Hint text - Defeat Shalice Tilman without missing any opportunity to sever her connection to the Seer Network, and then complete the trial.
      • Completion text - When you finally were able to confront Shalice Tilman within the depths of the Minds of Mayhem, you found that she would not go easily, for she was strongly connected to the Seer Network. Despite this difficulty, you found a way to sever her connections with little trouble, never allowing her to regain her strength after being chased from Malaise's broken body.

    Section 3: Winter Event Badges
    Gift Which Keeps Giving
    • Completion text - You've passed along the mysterious Duplicating Gift left by the Gamester!
    Gift Getter
    • Completion text - You've received a copy of the mysterious Duplicating Gift from another! Don't forget to pass it on!

I think it could work. We have plenty of melee powersets as is. And animals would largely be melee. Also, I can think of an example from a different game that made it work - Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The main character, Link, spends half that game as a wolf and has various jumping and biting attacks that he uses to fight enemies in that form. Obviously the game engine is completely different, but I think CoH is capable of doing something similar.

The only issue I could see the game engine having is physical size of some enemies. You wouldn't want the animal suddenly growing larger when he attacks a large enemy, for example, just so that the attack aligns correctly. I see that happen all the time with immobilize and hold powers on giant monsters in CoH.
  18. I will try to be there to help out. You're doing it tonight, correct?

Actually, that one was my fault because she was following me. I wasn't keeping a close enough watch on her early on. But fortunately, we got to her and healed her in time and even got the badge for keeping her above 50%.
  20. Thanks to everyone that participated. We got 2 badges - Preservation Specialist and Tour Guide, but missed getting Avatar Assassin and Regenerate This.

I apologize for missing anyone on the invites. I thought I had invited everyone that signed up, but apparently I missed a couple of people. I know how much I hate getting left out of things, so I feel bad that I missed some. If you guys want to set up a run and want help, I'll try to be available to assist.

Also, I believe that some of the team members were talking about doing an additional run this weekend, so there will be that chance of getting the badges.

    Hey Mr E,

I don't mind waiting an hour, but I'm not sure it would be fair to everyone else who signed up already if some of them can't make it. I'll leave the time up to the team.
  22. I'd like to run the Underground trial on Friday 9/23 at 7PM Pacific \ 10PM Eastern. The team would attempt to get all 4 badges required for the Master of Underground badge. I have been joining teams for this 2 or 3 times a day and unfortunately am still missing two of the badges since it seems that most teams are not able to complete the requirements for them. Many can't even complete the trial as a whole. So I'm asking for help from the forums.

I'm not really comfortable with leading the trial, but @Turgenev has volunteered to do so. If you want to join in, please respond to this post and I'll add you to the list.

So far the group is as follows:

    Team 1
    1. Turgenev
    2. Terminotaur
    3. NukeTheLag
    4. BeornAgain
    5. TheProtector
    6. Synakul
    7. Duneman
    8. Kotchie

    Team 2
    1. Chyron HR
    2. Destiny-Morna
    3. Shred Monkey
    4. Heavensrun
    5. Transcendent One
    6. Leandro
    7. Llydia
    8. Caliburst

    Team 3
    1. Unofficial
    2. First Son
    3. Mr. Trix
    4. Lieran
    5. J-Man
    6. Atomic Saint
    7. Miracle Kat
    8. Viper Kinji
  23. Based on the number of attempts it took to get the badge, I'd agree with everyone else and say that Keyes is the toughest. It took my team something like 25 attempts to get that badge. I lost the exact count after a while. However, in terms of player coordination I would say that the Underground trial is worse.

With Keyes, we usually went with the minimum requirement of 12 people because less people meant a greater chance of success on the final two badges. With the underground trial, that really isn't an option at present because we need the damage, buff, and debuff output of a larger league to take down the war walkers and the avatar. That makes team coordination much tougher. So far, I've tried for the underground badges about 15 times and still haven't gotten all of them. Just about every time, one of the following things happens - Someone will run off during the bomb phase and trigger a bomb, or people will use regen and defense buffs while confused and fighting the avatar, making him unbeatable, or the person with desdemona goes afk and a patrol kills her. I've even had the avatar kill desdemona several times after an otherwise successful badge run.

I think most of those failures are due to team coordination, which will likely get better over time as people get more used to the trial. Assuming that they even want to run it at all, that is. In just the last week, I've seen the number of Underground trial runs drop quite a bit - and that is regular trial runs.
  24. Thank you Turg for setting up all these attempts. It took me about 20 attempt at Avoids the Green Stuff and them about 15 at Loves a challenge to get them.

And then of course we got them all a second time tonight in one run.

Still, I'm concerned about what these badges may mean for future trials. I really hope we don't have similarly difficult badges coming up. The Keyes badges seemed to be as much about luck as skill in getting them.
