  1. Oh, I almost forgot. Suggestions for the alpha slot?

    Dbl thanks
  2. Thanks for the follow up, I've started on the build, looking good so far. I'll post again when I get it finished and test it out.
  3. I ended up making a couple minor changes to the build. I used some Reward Merits to get the Steadfast Protection Res/+Def. The mid lvl salvage needed to build some of the IO's is quite expensive, so I used some old AE pts and bought a bunch of random salvage.

The Eradication IO's in Icicles are mad expensive ($50 mil each), so I sold a LotG + recharge to buy them.

So far, I real happy with the build. I feel kinda... invincible.

    Thanks again for the help!

  4. Thanks for the help.

Are those 3 Hami-Os going to break my bank?

Good catch on my Body Mastery mix up. So you think conserve power is better then focused acc?

Or should I scrap Body Mastery altogether and get something else?

Man, I'd love to fit Unstoppable into the build.. just for the Oh-#$%^ factor
  5. Almost got my toon to lvl 50, and im working on a final build. Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

  6. As a guy who has been playing a Mind/Emp since the BETA (think about that), I can say that soloing has gone from "not possible" to "doable, but real slow compared to a scrapper or blaster". Before they added dbl damage to held opponents, soloing was simply not an option. Now, with that and other attacks (sands of mu, nemesis staff, etc) it can be done.

As someone pointed out, picking up a travel attack power (I used jump kick till I got into the high 40's) helps out. I also recommend getting acrobatics, it's worth it.

I've been thinking about doing up a guide for Mind/Emp... now that I see Im not the only one playing the class I may do it.

    respec bug

    I'll try it, thanks!
  8. Tarmac

    respec bug

I picked up a bug with the last little update.
When I go to use the free respec, it starts out with the now inherent fitness powers greyed out on the right side. I don't see the normal inherent stuff, like brawl and rest, at all. Once I hit lvl 4, the entire right side disappears, leaving a blank space. I can still select other pools (flight, super jump, etc) but none of the "inherent" stuff.

I sent a /bug report, but im worried that im going to lose a free re-spec by not getting the 1st one done by the 8th
  9. lvl 50 Rad/Rad, but im having issues with how to slot accelerate metabolism. Any suggestions?
  10. Flints,
Thanks for pointing me at your guide. I see that most of my problem was from using the older guide posted by Tundara.
  11. Thanks to both of you. Let me look these over, and see what I come up with.
  12. Ok, im pretty broke, help me fill out my tanker build

  13. Im playing around with mids hero planner, and it's letting me pick up fly at lvl 6, without getting hover. Is this a change, or a bug in mids?

If it's a change, is it worth it to get hover anyways?

    Thanks!

To me, this is the best news ever.

I've noticed a distinct lack of enthusiam for CoX from Cryptic for a while. Possibly it was just me thinking it, but I seem to recall a bug introduced a while back that was earthshatteringly game breaking (unique art objects disappearing in missions) that took an excessive amount of time to fix. When that was occurring, my mind kept thinking, "Are they too busy playing with the Marvel code?"

Now we have a team dedicated JUST to us, with the sole purpose of making CoX a money-machine and insanely popular.

I fail to see how this is a bad thing.

...and I bought: CoH, CoV:CE, GVE (x2 - but my wife didn't like the game )

...and I was prepared to buy: "Galaxy of Heroes", which is what I figured the "secret expansion" was they kept hinting at while showing us Rikti stuff.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Some good points in here.

So what your saying is that "since Statesman and his boys left CoH/V for MUO, we've been stuck with the 2nd string devs and they aren't as good as the original staff"?

Guess what, the team has just been bought out, and the 2nd stringers are now your starting line-up. Lets hope that the new owners bring in some big name free agents and get us back to the super bowl.

I wonder what John Romita JR is doing these days....?

I used to play a game, lets call it Ultimus Origin. The game was made by a couple folks who had made a bunch of similar themed games in the past. The leader (lets call him King England) had a vision, and he made it reality. The land was like honey, and the sky like gold. Then, the King did tire and he sold the game (and his name) to another company (lets call them E-Aye} for many gold pieces.

    (UO:X cancellation letter snipped.)

That's an interesting side step from your original claim - but again, the facts don't bear you out. That drop started a year before - with the horribly flawed released of AoS in 2003. Any loss from the cancellation of UO:X was incidental to the wholesale slide already in progress, at best it just steepened the curve. (Not to mention that the new BOD systems, Arties, and Marties was busily destroying crafting about the same time. That lead to more than few cancellations in their own right.)

It's also worth noting that the steepest decline also happened as WoW was hitting the streets.

Relevant dates: (Note the first two in particular.)

    EA purchases Origin Systems: 9/1992

    Ultima Online commences development: 1995

Ultima Online commences playerbase decline (from which it never recovers): 2nd Q 2003

    EA disbands Origin: 2/2004

    UO:X cancelled: 6/2004

(And no, I didn't miss it. I wuz there.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Always good to meet a fellow UO vet!

It just seems like that when "Captain England" and his crew sold out to "E-Aye", the sails went out of "Ultimus Origin" for me. I kinda felt like all forward momentum disappeared and was replaced with corporate speak.

Again, Im not calling "Dooooom", im just re-living past events.

For me, I've had the feeling that since Statesman left "the powers that be" have been treating CoH and CoV as 1 game. The press release just confirms that the suit wearing bean counters think that way.

For the record: IMO What is good for CoH, isn't necessarily good for CoV. The games should be thought of separately, and should have fully staffed teams assigned to each.

PS: So MUO gets Statesman, Synapse and Manticore, and CoH gets Back Ally Brawler and Positron? And you call that a even deal?

We feel that Ultima Online is where we need to focus our online efforts and most of my team will be moving to the UO expansion pack, the UO live team, and an unannounced Ultima Online project. Development on UO will be greatly enhanced as we consolidate our resources behind that franchise.

This isn't an easy decision but itÂ’s the right move for the future of all things Ultima, including the community and the team. We look forward to sharing our plans for the future of Ultima Online very soon."

I would like to thank all of the Ultima X: Odyssey supporters who have been with us from the beginning. I hope you will continue to support the Ultima franchise and the development team as they transition to new projects.

    Thank you,
    David "InQWis" Yee
    Producer, Ultima X: Odyssey

King British did roll upon his bed of gold, chose a new name, and made a new game.

[/ QUOTE ] You mean King England right

Also, I don't know that this is remotely as bad an occurrence as the one you mention. We're keeping most of the same game designers that we had, and it's been said they'll have a fair amount of autonomy.

    <shrug> Here's hoping anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think that would actually be King Colonel England now.

Maybe you had to talk to him at the Meet N Greet in Austin to get that one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Im not calling "DOOOOM", im just saying I remember what has happen to games that have been sold in the past.

My concern is that it'll turn into SWG all over again.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am an optimist on this score. The industry saw the player reaction to the shenanigans with SWG and I hope that something was learned.

Also, my personal opinion is that if anything, CoX will not get that kind of changes, but will be used as a cash cow to set up the rest of the franchise - whether this is MMO/single player games in different styles or even a sequel, where they go to town with crazy ideas good and bad.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree 100% with spidermonster on this. Statesman left CoX over a year ago to help develop Marvell Online. Everyone else who has been working on CoX for the last (awesome) year is moving with the game to the new studio. Even grumpy, yet lovable BAB...

Any similarity between this news and SWG's "New Game Enhancement" debacle is, well, I just am not seeing it.

    Cautiously optimistic...

    I'm grumpy but loveable?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, you are short, dark and gruesome.

I wouldn't compare this to the SWG thing, it's much closer to when EASports bought Ultima Online.

15 miles doesn't sound like much, till you have lived through California traffic. It could add 2+ hours to a persons daily commute.
  20. Notes from a old time MMO gamer.

I used to play a game, lets call it Ultimus Origin. The game was made by a couple folks who had made a bunch of similar themed games in the past. The leader (lets call him King England) had a vision, and he made it reality. The land was like honey, and the sky like gold. Then, the King did tire and he sold the game (and his name) to another company (lets call them E-Aye} for many gold pieces.

and the women did wail, and there was much gnashing of teeth.

King British did roll upon his bed of gold, chose a new name, and made a new game.

E-Aye, the mega-corp that it is continued to accept all major credit cards, and it's creditors did rejoice.

The game it's self withered, dried and lost all forward momentum, but still lives on, played by a few die hards, and their dial-up connections.

I am not upset with the way the blades look, I just wish you would be doing something more superheroic with new powersets. I am not too aware outside of the Punisher/Wolverine of any SuperHeroes running around with death weapons and at least the Punisher uses modern weaponary. Swords is not a beat up and arrest the bad guy type of weapon. I like this game because it is SUPER HEROs not D&D fantasy online attempt.

I guess everyone that is a superhero fan seems to be suffering from Wolverine envy. You gave us claws, now duel blades for villains I can understand the duel wields, but for heros I would think more along the lines of billy clubs (daredevil) batons, and you do understand Elektra was a villain before Daredevil converted her. To be honest I do not really consider ninjas SuperHero material they are assassins and exactly what super heros would attempt to stop.

This is just my two cents, I am glad lots of people like them and seem very happy to get them. I do understand the ability to allow everyone to get a chance to enjoy some aspect of the game.

I am curious if they are working on a Wind Powerset. THey already have earth, water(Ice), fire...guess you could sorta say Storm is air but only defenders and controllers ATs have the ability to take it, I would like to see a blaster or corrupter get some type of wind blasting set.

Willpower seems to be an interesting concept for an armor but wonder how it will differ from Invulnerability. Hopefully it will not be a toggle/Endurance heavy beast.

Please give us more super power sets instead of weapons that are used in every other MMO on the market, you have the potential to be really unique in what you offer so putting out Dual Blades to me is lack of creativity and sorta wasted money of development for powersets. I do agree the Tank AT really needed some new powersets, the Brute has 6 to 8 choices for primary and secondary.

    [/ QUOTE ]

AMEN BROTHER! I thought dual blades was bad, but dual scimitars? Wow, talk about a Drizzt rip off.

Well the cats out of the bag now, there is no chance that they are going to shelve this after publishing pics. Lets hope they get get this done fast, and move on to more super hero based stuff ASAP.

I have addressed the problem with polls in my OP. Frankly, 90% "the people" are morons.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A statement like this begs the question "And you're not because?" Accusing people who disagree with you of being morons is arrogant, self-righteous and not a little egocentric. With a premise like "Other people are stupid, I'm not, so things should be like I say they should be." you may as well not even bother. That just don't fly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Again you are missing the point, and making a personal attack. I think it was P.T. Barnum who said "no one ever lost a buck by under estimating the intelligence of the American public." Just because some thing is popular doesn't mean it's good. The Back Street Boys sell a whole lot of CDs, and yet the Ramones never got to do a world wide arena tour. Go figure.

The poll wasn't the only deciding factor for doing Dual Blades as the next powerset.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Translated: We wanted to do Dual Blades. They'll grow on you. Get used to the idea, because it's happening.

Seriously though, will there be another poll anytime soon? If so, might I suggest a poll to determine what sets make it onto the poll?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Only if they poll out the choices for that poll first.

Which would require a poll to decided what goes on that poll too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have addressed the problem with polls in my OP. Frankly, 90% "the people" are morons. All you have to do is sit under the statue in Atlas Park to see this. Names like "xXxEyEpWnYoxXx", 12' tall nekid women with he boob slider on max, costumes that look like the guy hit "random" till it puked out something painful to the eyes. And these people get a vote? And it counts as much as mine? Morons I tell you, morons.

I also noted that the last PvP match had a big splash page spammed to everyone when they entered the game. Funny, I don't remember there being one for the powerset poll. As a matter of fact, the poll was pretty much buried in these forums. Believe it or not, but there are lots of folks who play CoH who never come here. Maybe the fine folks at CoH should have e-mailed out ballots to all active accounts addresses?

    Cripes...

    We're still on this?

Look, the decision has been made. The votes were tallied.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This argument has been already been de-bunked in this very thread by Back Ally Brawler himself. There was no "vote", just a "poll". The devs took the poll into consideration, but also "other factors", which where not mentioned by name.

BTW: Shields won that poll, but was left out.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, euphemisms is your game now, huh? A rose is a rose, good player.

Also, I read that one about Shields before. I figured I'd covered that concept with an earlier post.

As I insinuated, but perhaps didn't spell out too clearly, the devs now have a good idea of where to work for the next powersets to implement.

And oh yeah... From that poll/vote/tally/<insert synonym here>/etc., STREET FIGHTING STILL LOST.

Again... Why are we still on this?

Frankly, I'd rather have some of those improvised weapons set ideas you threw out earlier. The baseball bat or the 2X4 would be downright entertaining!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I did not say I voted for street sighting. Frankly I can't remember what I voted for. The problem isn't that DB won, the problem is that the devs are treating CoH and CoV as one game.

MAKE DB A VILLAIN ONLY POWERSET!

Thanks for the 2x4 vote! Imagine the fun of smashing the Trolls Supes lab with a chunk of pine!
